A hacker by the name “Dashhacker” has claimed to fully reverse the PSP to PS3 connection (remote play),broke the  authentication system , and promises a API very soon. Hackers such as RichDevX & Kid101Skater have attempted this in the past but were unable to do so fully.

So what does this allow us to do? We will now be able to access the PS3 from ANYWHERE besides the PSP such as PC, iPhone, PDA via internet!

A very interesting discovery and cool feature many of us can take advantage of.

We will give you updates on this latest project when they become available.

xorloser has released a very handy tool manipulating/analyzing PS3 Self and Sprx files. Quote from xorlosers’ blog below:

I’ve finally gotten around to finishing my SelfTool for manipulating Self and Sprx files. Self files are like exe files for the PS3 and Sprx files are like dll files for the PS3.

Among other things, SelfTool can be used to print out information stored in the file in a readable format to make studying them easier.

NOTE: This DOES NOT enable booting of copied games in any way. It also does not support decrypting or encrypting of self/sprx files. It is really only useful for those who are interested in looking a bit deeper at self/sprx files.

You can view a example of the output file here.

Great work indeed, you can grab the download via download link below.

Fixstars Corporation of Japan has announced “CodecSys CE-10″, the first H.264 encoder that’s designed specifically for the PS3. The product works by installing it on a PC but will allow a way to access the power of the PS3 as a way of accelerating video encoding. Fixstar promises “ultra fast HD encoding” and “high quality low bit rate compression with their new program, and will be showed cased in Las Vegas on April 20th. Fixstar also sent a picture illustrating how the PS3 would interface with the CE-10 program.

A very interesting program that many of us will be looking for, the scheduled release date is June 2009.

XCM has released a video demonstrating how their new XCM Cross Fire Product works with the PS3 controller (and original xbox controller). The Cross Fire supports the tilt (sixaxis) and rapid fire functions.
You can catch the video below:

We don’t know if this currently supports the rumble feature or not, but a good buy for anyone who hates the 360 controller :)

A new Xbox 360 update is now out and is a mandatory update via XBOX LIVE. This update addresses interruption issues that some Xbox LIVE users may have experienced when playing a limited number of Xbox 360 games. Since this is mandatory, you run the risk of being banned if you are playing on a modded 360 on Live, so use at your own risk.

This is great news for anyone who wants to stay on a lower firmware yet still be able to connect online on the PS3. Spanish hacker Bakke has found out a way to connect to PSN on lower firmwares, this method works on PS3s starting from FW 2.30+. You can continue to play Home, browse and download files from PS Store and play online as if your PS3 was running on latest update. The tutorial is very simple and once again requires the use of PS3Proxy Server. It is recommended to stay on lower firmware updates as long as possible and not to update to latest firmware for various reasons.

You can view the translated English tutorial here.

ifcaro has released his latest build of USB Loader v0.3 RC1 for the PS3. For those unfamiliar with USBLD, this file runs on the PS3 with swap magic and enables us to play PS2 ISOs via external storage device. The newest version adds support for more titles that were previously not compatible. The download link contains two ELF files, one with modhook and one without. Performance with modhook is being tested currently so please try both (and let us know if there is improved compatibility).

Sony has released firmware 2.70, the changes (quoted from PS Blog) below:

Hi everyone, we’re adding some great new features with the next PS3 firmware update (v2.70) that will continue to enhance your connected experience on the PS3. The 2.70 update brings a new Text Chat feature that enables you to communicate online with your PlayStation Network friends. Now, you’ll be able to chat with up to 15 online friends using the Wireless Keypad, on-screen keyboard, or other compatible keyboard peripherals. Not only can you chat with your friends instantly, but you can also access Text Chat while playing PS3 games and even participate in up to three chat rooms at once.
In addition to Text Chat, we’ve added a few more enhancements:
Friends list on the XMB (XrossMediaBar)

    * Sort your friends via their online status
    * Attach larger files to the messages you send to your friends (file size will increase from 1MB to 3MB)

Video delivery service on PlayStation Store

    * Video files you’ve purchased from the PlayStation Store can be backed up to an external storage device and then restored to PS3’s internal hard drive for playback – so you can clear up space on your hard drive and then restore the video anytime in the future
    * Videos you’ve purchased for PSP (PlayStation Portable) system can now be transferred to PS3 for playback

We don’t know what else is hidden in the firmware update, but will let you know once we have the PS3 updated.
