• USB Loader v0.3 RC1 Released

    PS3 Hacks , 02.04.2009

    ifcaro has released his latest build of USB Loader v0.3 RC1 for the PS3. For those unfamiliar with USBLD, this file runs on the PS3 with swap magic and enables us to play PS2 ISOs via external storage device. The newest version adds support for more titles that were previously not compatible. The download link contains two ELF files, one with modhook and one without. Performance with modhook is being tested currently so please try both (and let us know if there is improved compatibility).

      well, this one does work on NTSC Ps3 (metalgear bundle) with software emulation ???

      this is great, i wasnt able to play Yakuza before... and now with V0.3RC1 it works! (tho the videos are really slow) :thefinger:

      woops, i spoke too soon..
      im having resolution errors at times while loading the ELF.
      I can still pick a game but the screen is blank.
      Otherwise I can say that Yakuza,outrun 2, DonDon and Capcom vs SNk2 Work Good with only a few minor issues. :thefinger:

      Funny Yakuza was one of the few games that worked for me in the first release. OK so I downloaded and extracted the rar file, so do you just replace the elf file without going through the entire process again? Has anyone got this working on firmware 2.70? I don't think I want to update.

      Ive tried a few games with both the normal 0.3 update, and the hook one. No change Tried Noctrine, PSC 32 sega ages, Persona 4

      can anyone tell me if this newer update recognizes more external hard drives at all? previous version did not recognise my external at all.

      Good News for all:

      - Updated my PS3 to Fw 2.70

      USBLoader 0.3RC1 is still working.. the normal Version works.. The ModHook-Version didnt work for me...

      In a fast test session i cant get games working which didnt run with 0.2b loader.. so no change for me.. dont know if it is more compatible... still have to pull out usb-stick to see my usb-hdd.. and put it back again to load the games...

      this is what it seems to me

      the 0.3 seems to be more buggyer but has more compatibility.. the 0.3 one without modhook works way better.. well to me i use the 0.2b more because it doesnt crash as much as this new one.. ALL the usbld is still very slow in loading expeicaly cutscenes (omg watching cutscenes feels like slowly dying by cancer/aids/Gvirus)

      P.S. you dont have to install 0.2 and 0.3 like you install 0.1.. just put in USB SWAPMAGIC folderand rename SMBOOT0

      Have you tried putting the swapmagic folder onto the HD and booting from the HD instead of the usb ?

      yep i tried that, but it wont boot directly from hdd.. i need the usb-stick to load the usb-loader itself..

      i thought there was a update that lets ps2 games use the ps3 harddrive (game like ff11) couldn't there be a way to load ps2 iso off the hardrive?

      I just got my swapmagic 3.8, and the first thing i had to try out was this, and it works great (really appreciated ifcaro, great work), but i only got marvel vs capcom 2 and SNK vs CAPCOM 2 to run, i tried Naruto Ultimate Storm 4 and its green in the compatibility list, but it didnt work for me, and now my marvel vs capcom 2 doesnt work longer, but my SNK vs CAPCOM 2 does.

      So how can games that worked perfectly stop working :S

      I suppose it's good news. But there is too much focus on this. If you really want to play ps2 games (god knows why), why don't you just buy a ps2 console, you can almost buy one used for the same price as a USB stick and the swap magic disc. also, it's not worth the bother when only half the games work, and you need a loader every single time.. it's awkward.

      Yeah i know what you mean, but im just wanna play some titles from the ps2s, like 5-10games or so, im gonna buy a ps2 slim after the summer , just that i wanted to try out some of the classic good ps2 titles .
