• PS3 FW 2.80 increases memory

    The latest PS3 2.80 Update (optional) adds more than what you can find in the changelog. Naughty Dog’s Sam Thompson confirmed stated that more RAM memory was made available by the reduction of memory consumption from the consoles operating system.

    The memory reduction mainly is important to game developers, when asked what improvements were made to the latest Uncharter 2 Multiplayer (Beta), he replied:

    Naughty Dog is constantly working to improve every aspect of the gameplay; be it animation, lighting, sound, texture fidelity. You know if you look at the game itself with the 2.80 engine update, you know we’re adding more memory, so we get a lot more utilisation of the SPUs, so we increase our optimisation of the Cell processor as well.”

    “So we’ve got from the engineering side all the way up to texture fidelity, artists adding in even more…I mean there’s really not a singular aspect that’s not been improved in the game,” Thompson added.

    The PS3 memory was reduced to about 74mb at firmware 1.80, currently the new reduction amount is not known, but is getting closer to the Xbox 360′s 32mb.

      Great....so now devs will force us to upgrade to 2.80 with the open remote play inhibition.

      Still, I suppose the games will run better.....I just hope sony put a hypervisor vulnerability somewhere to make up for it.

      There has to be an exploit hidden somewhere in this.
      Since I don't have a PS3, I'm updating(sucks that I don't have wireless internet anymore and my PS3 is in a different room, well, not really) and trying some old Proof of Concept things.

      Could this open up possibilities for a speedier linux? XD unless the os is untouchable from the linux side?..

      This was just a typical blunder with all the info and people coming up to us constantly at the PS booth at San Diego ComicCon. He was actually referring to Naughty Dog Engine 2.0 updates we made. We had just been making sure at the event that all the PS3s brought in were on FW 2.80, since that is what that build needed to run on, so I have no doubt it was top of mind.
      So it wasn't a memory upgrade, just an engine update..

      weird, microsoft that usually make memory hogger OS can produce less memory requirement for console.

      ever since i did this update my system has been acting weird maybe because i only had a 40 GB in the first place my disc read fine just a whole lot of freezing during the game play amy solutions hit me up
