MysticHades has resurfaced an old hack that allowed the booting of PS3 games (originally found here). He has posted a video showing how this exploit works. This method only works with BluRay backups and NOT DVD. It does not work on all games.
Here is a rough translation of the tutorial, you can download all the needed files below:
Step 1: Install Ubuntu on your PS3 (or kubuntu)
Step 2: Install Windows XP on Ubuntu
Step 3: Install CloneCD on Windows XP and connect to network another PC so has seen in My Network Places. I do not know if AnyDVD HD is necessary, but I installed it for me
Step 4: Open CloneCD, select new image, insert the game, select “Protected PC Game”, change the extension to ISO.
Step 5: Ripper Blu-Ray on PC via network favorites.
Step 6: Burn with ImgBurn (or CloneCD) in 1X on the PC or has been ripped game
So what exactly is going on? This was the release post about this method via Elotrolado
PS3 backups load thanks to an exploit discovered when it is considered necessary is to upload a video showing the event.
My way of working will protect this exploit and not give details of how this occurs so that might not make the same mistakes of the past.
You have to patch both updates as other functions, the iso is not worth anyone … It requires a different process than those generated in linux are not worth keeping the encryption layer.
The exploit creates a CheckStop that generates a reboot and does not load everything back into memory but the function of pre patched disk and run the new copy.
The models are tested 40/60/80.
The games tested are 3, Killzone 2, burnout paradise, pes2008.

Awesome. Could you edit an executable to load off a DVD-R or DVD-DL? It would be great if you somehow could, I mean you can edit the executable to tell the console it's legit, why not tell the console the game is on a DVD?

Will this only run backups from BD-R or will it also load from an iso on the hard drive/usb hard drive/networked pc? The details are a little scarce at the moment, and I know with time people will do more with this, but I'm just curious as to the current capabilities.

i think the author of the videos said that you HAVE to burn to a blank blu-ray disk, apparently it doesnt work with any sort of blank dvd disk.

1. He put a white label on the original pes2008 disc and tell us its a backup.
2. Its bull++++ about making backups with winxp under vm running in the ps3... It works directly from win with liteon BR burner... (many new BR burners can read PS3 discs)
3. I tested it already with KZ2 and Burnout on my pal 60gb.
...and finally it doesnt work !!!

Hello. I am not so stupid as you think (or wish). I really know what I wrote. I know that not all parts of the disc can be copied to make 100% backup of the original. If it should be possible, there is no point to hac!k PS3.
and I sad that the video is fake and not the motorstorm exploit!!! Exploit is real, but you cant use it to boot up burned backups anyway.
... it is not possible that modified savedata of motostorm can lead to crash of lv1 and next to boot of backups.

I've never said that fake or true. I was saying that discs have a section only read by the ps3 drive (you said that a PC drive works well for copying it)

But based on your post, have you tried it on your PS3 before writing your post (by using the ps3 drive?)
btw, reading the post on skfu's hack this doesn't seem to be the same. His hack used the MS exploit to run games already installed on the HDD: This one seems to run backups.

this is really killing me i can't say if this is fake or not, there are people saying that this is not fake and certainly the methood SKFU and guys over elotrolado is similar to this but the instructions he uses are not acurate!
i mean i speak french and can clearly understand most things that he says in the videos and i do understand the tutorial, but i don't get in the video what he does is get in the motorstorm game exits the game inserts PES "backup" (if that's a real backup) and plays it, how is that suposed to work even if you do all the stuff he states in the tutorial?
i got to watch the video again!

On 3rd released video YouTube - Hack PS3 MotorStorm - Preuve pas un fake
at 4:37 to 4:39 he changed the original pes2008 with the white label
with real BD-R disc.
at 5:47 you can clearly see the reflection of the other disc (the original pes2008 with the white label)on the table right side behind camera.
so AGAIN it's fake!!!

However I think that instead of quarrel you should this method by yourself and post the results. Maybe not on youtube because Sony will spot it right away. But hey... why not to give it a try?
Blank BD's are available for $3 (ebay: http://bit.ly/8ep2dl), and anyway sooner or later you'll need a Blue Ray recorder for your PC. They already cost less than $100 and I do not think that they'll get any cheaper soon.. so there isn't much to loose (except your time). Just give it a try!
I'm getting my new console (the "fat" one) tomorrow, plus blu-ray recorder for PC (actually it's a Mac ;p) hopefuly this month, so I can't (yet) test it.
However contrary to most of you I won't decide if it's fake or not before I'll try it!
However I must say that I watched the "Preuve pas un fake" video frame after frame, and I don't see any cheating.. looks very convincing.

welcome to the forum! Its not that easy! you can't just try because the tutorial is incomplete! its impossible to try when you don't have all information to do what he is doing!
DemonHades posted back there that his job was not complete, maybe it is now but i don't get how does the motorstorm stuff works, like i freeze the machine with motorstorm and then insert another game and BAM it plays???

I tested the Method right away with original games and i have the same results like this guy on Youtube

While I ejected the Motorstorm Bluray the XMB frooze but the PS3 did not reset or sometimes the XMB didnīt frooze but Motorstorm in the backfround frooze, cause i changed the Disc....
And I didnīt get the thing with the Savegame, why it is important? I dont think Motorstorm is reading the Savegame at this early state...
I hope someone "official" will tell us if the method works or not

well thats what i thought i saw your video!
try using the savegame! in my point of view if the exploit is legit then this should work cause:
1 you are using a legit game he is using a backup so if the backup boots the legit game has too boot also!!
2 the "backup" (he says is using... there is people saying its a legit game with a blank cover) so if his backup is a legit game, and you are using legit games then yours should also boot!
As i said try using the save, and as demonhades said there is the checkstop don't know if its in the save or whatever but this method is similar to the one the guys over elotrolado are using.
So If you can please post a video using the savegame and show us your results.

i think i got this to work with the original games of motorstorm and burnout paridise.
I copyied the motorstorm save onto my ps3, loaded up motorstorm and went to play and selected the first level. When it started to load the vehicle i pressed the ps button and swapped the disk to burnout paradise, then pressed the ps button again to be in game, then pressed O to go back and my ps3 crashed for a second then went straight to the xmb with burnout showing. I dont have a blu-ray backup to try tho

If you want to try this, you'll find directions in english in the PS3 hacking section of the forum, along with everything you would understand if you watched the videos and spoke french.
french-made translation, not-so-bad english (at least a LOT more understandable than the "google translation"-like ones you'll find everywhere else.)
