i am not really clued up on modding 360's drive but does this mean you dont need any other hardware to mod Lite-on drives, just because i believe you need an usb-extractor of something like that?
cheers?

For lite-ons I think you have to modify the drive a bit to be able to dump they firmware (and get the key). I've never had a lite-on so I've never dont it, but there some kind of connections you have to cut or something.
The older benq's didn't need any modifications. A little trick to put the drive in recovery mode (turn on for 2 seconds, turn off for 2 seconds, turn back on) and you're good to go.
Probably not alot of moddable benqs left after the last wave, but I survive the banwave, so the new firmware is appreciated.

Warning
Play nice or get banned
Xbox 360 modder here, just letting you know that information is not correct. Yes one of the features of the new LT firmware was to remove wave protection so that the drive has waveless booting. However, the real reason behind the firmware is so that people who make backups of there games are able to play on Xbox Live without getting banned from Xbox Live. That is the sole purpose of the LT firmware aside from having the ability to boot backups of course. Next time you should do some research before posting misleading, incorrect, and down right insulting information about the Xbox 360 modding scene. There are those who actually pay for games and make legit backups.
