Sony has released PS3 FW 3.30 today, details and download link follow:
Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, we’ll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly. Most notably, you’ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.
- Trophy enhancements –- Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
- Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
- Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)
In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

Somehow it just feels that the OO CFW won't be released too soon, if ever... Too much time to "test" a working CFW sadly.
And now a totally new fw version to play around. Even if he releasess 3.21OO, now it's useless and he has to start over. Sad...

there has been tweets from him but nothing about the ps3. i think he just sold out (because he can't get around the psn connection)and has no balls to tell people he did. but he did show us that is is possible to have the other os in a later FW(but most likely no psn) . so i say if there was a way then be up to the rest of us to figure it out. as i'm stuck with only a new slim 250gb, i can't help at all except speculate. but my ideas an't going to waste there is a group working on it, no word yet but have given them some ideas. so if he does make it official that it is out i will eat my words. until then i respectfully won't update because the hole is there just not used.

He's just another ego maniacal jerk who just happened to hit the big time riding on the popularity of Apple products. Why he even bothered to show up on the PS3 scene just to get our OtherOS removed and our Proxies disabled is beyond me... but clearly the thousands of people on PSN weren't enough to stroke his ego compared to the millions of "iWhatever" users.
Just because he's a smart jerk doesn't make him any less of a jerk.

Auto updates? ****, every time you log on to play, there will be a new pointless update to combat cfw. That update will take for-****ing-ever as 11ty billion people download it off of a ****house "free" network. Finally up-to-date but time for work/school/bed/life. Tomorrow? Rinse and ****ing repeat! I'm quickly loosing patience. I may upgrade this weekend as even if the slight possibility of CFW coming along this year, if it means permanent ban from online gaming I wouldn't bother.

Guys, you need to chill with the hostility towards Geohotz. Personally, I don't think he's capable of hacking the PS3, and I never believed he could, but he's made enough progress to get Sony worried and made me a bit skeptical.
And pretty much everybody on this site wants some form of Homebrew to run on the PS3, Geohotz tried to get it, but Sony just edged him for now. If anybody tried to make progress, they would've had the same response from Sony. Either way, if we were to get close to homebrew, Sony would've taken the necessary steps to stall us. It was bound to happen, at least we made a small step towards homebrew and Sony confirmed it by their reaction.
I do agree though that he should've made some sort of update for people waiting to upgrade their firmware, but it doesn't mean we should blame him for OOS removal and the Proxy method being disabled

I'm sort of stuck in the middle on this geohot is capable of hacking the ps3 to some extend, we have all seen this happen. but also we know the iphone/ipad is his passion.
Can i blame him for the removal of other os well that's a yes and a no -_-
yes he forced sony's hands they had to respond -_- but the way they responded was to drastic. you don't prepare for war by nuking the other country off the map you devise plans and counter them using the nukes as a final measure.

What you're missing is that it was never ABOUT the PS3 community. It was all about HIM. The minute the iPad came out he had a much larger and more vocal audience for his ego. THAT's why he never got around to actually doing anything. (Although... like you... I also question whether he actually could've in the first place. Specifically in the amount of time he made that video. Was he capable of hacking 3.15 so that it SAID it was 3.21? Absolutely. And that's better than me. But take all the steps necessary to decrpypt, hack, and flash 3.21 *and* have it connect to PSN in the time he did it... without a proxy? I doubt it.)
Remember: The video he released was PRIOR to Sony shutting down the proxy server. You haven't seen a PEAK at a CFW since Sony did that. I believe he was simply able to hack the verison number and logon using Logon5.
All this is a moot point mind you.
Meanwhile, unless you went out and bought a *second* PS3 console... (hey, whatever floats your boat...) you miss out on ever playing any games online and ever getting any DLC, and ever playing any games that require a specific firmware.
I mean I hate what Sony did to OtherOS as much as anyone... But two weeks of Geohot prancing around playing Ms. Pacman was all it took to get me to update.

I've updated to 3.30, I'm tired of waiting. Seriously, if GH would of at least tweeted some progress I could of waited for months as I only wanted to sync my 2 freshly aquired platinum trophyes... But, we all know how iLoad, motorstorm hack, proxy etc hacks got... Not working or total bogus... why wait...?
By the way, if some of you decided to update so that you got your 10 Gb back from OtherOs back, a 60 Gb model will show 47/55 Gb free to start and aprox. 37/55 with Linux. It wasn't quite clear so I just wanted to clear things up a bit.

You don't NEED to update the firmware in order to update Youtube. All you have to do is patch it from Google's end to be more compatible with alternative web browsers in general or the PS3 specifically.
Case in point: A lot of uses experienced problems with stuttering video on my own website The solution I came up with was simply to either switch the wrapper from Flash 8.0 to 7.0... or just re-encode the video in 7.0 so it would be more compatible with older versions of flash.
Using the former method... even with every video on Youtube... it would probably take them about an hour.

I've done some speed tests before when I was on 3.15, and although my computer was constantly downloading at about 30mb/s my PS3 was doing ONLY 6-8mb/sec.
After the 3.30 update, my PS3 matches the speed of my computer in the range of 30-33mb/s. As a consequence GameSpot videos are now crisp and clear, I didn't managed to test a HD version of their reviews (couldn't make it work).
Also PS3 Flash is the same version in fw3.30: PS3 9.0.151.0 so I don't think Sony did something there...
What was even more interesting, even with java enabled, I couldn't make the browser crash! Before if I left Java enabled a few pages on joystick and it was "GAME OVER" - This is not a proven fact, only impressions (maybe I really want to find something good because I lost OTHEROS)
Can someone confirm, I'm very interested about the speed of the internet connection, I never understood why the PS3 was so sluggish on the net!

Just try on fw 3.15 if you still have it and compare the results between your PC and the PS3.
On 3.30 I cannot see any difference in speed between them...

I got 2.59 megs download and 1.51meg upload (yeah... it's not comcast... but the price is reliable and it's faster than AT&T was.)

I'm about to just say screw it and update. I backed up all my crap (197GB) to my external hard drive. It took 7 hours to back everything up. I have to update before I reformat (to get the 10GB back) because I got a crapload of trophies I need to sync, and I can't very well do that on 3.15.
I'm waiting for my Best Buy receipt reprint in the mail, I was told by a CSR on the phone that I could take it into the store and mention PS3 OtherOS refund and they should know what I'm talking about.

What happened the first time I tried to update to 3.30 was that it downloaded the message about what 3.30 does... but it didn't actually download the firmware. So if I had ok'ed the update... it would've bricked my system because it hadn't actually downloaded anything to update.
It was foolish to have invested so much faith in a nut like that.

GeoHot is a jerk...his blog still tells people to use the proxy hack, and his last blog entry has over 20,000 replies...but he won't even bother to post back something like, "BTW...the proxy hack no longer works, don't waist your time trying to get it working"
He still has not released his fw 3.21, and fw 3.30 is out...so we know that we are never going to see a working FW from GeoHot, at least not before sony voids it...and that is assuming that GeoHot was willing to release his FW, or at lease give the information he has to other hackers that would actually do the work.
BTW...anyone know the details of the 3D support added? I can't seem to find anything about this. The wording is very odd, "In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs"...does this mean that they did not add 3D, but simply added support to add 3D later? It says that 3D gaming is a, "upcoming new feature"...I take it that means that it is not a current feature in 3.30? From what I have read, these TVs should be in stores before 2010-06-11, as this is the date of the first game of the world cup...and Sony might even be smart enough to offer the required glasses by then...maybe.
