• PS3 Hacks , 17.06.2010

As we reported here, RichDevX made an untested patch, while many on IRC and on the forum tried to get it to work, it just wouldnt.

NTAuthority a member of HaXNetwork, has successfully created a patch that works, here is a quote from his Read Me.

As with the original application, this requires Windows 7 (any version)
and a WLAN card in your computer for the initial pairing. Also, PS3
firmware 3.30+ is required to use PC Remote Play.

As it is compiled with Visual Studio 2008, the Visual C++ 2008 runtime
(non-SP1) is also required, but there’s enough chance you already have
it installed (and Sony’s application requires it too).

If you don’t have the VAIO Remote Play application itself, download it
from the official Sony site (http://tinyurl.com/sonyvrp) and install.

For full installation, make sure you read the Read Me and give NTAuthority thanks when you can.

Most of these bugs are actually from Sony's original program, but, you could try starting the registration over again... it might be a one-time issue.

      No luck here either.

The first issue I had was AVG detected VRPSDK.dll (Which is in the sony install files) as having a virus, but submitting it to http://scanner.novirusthanks.org scanned with like 16 different scan engines, and only AVG detected it, so I told AVG to ignore it, registered the dll fine after that. Just thought I would mention this incase someone else is using AVG and runs across this thread as I did.

I get to the same point as everyone else, after entering 8 digit code, it just crashes.

I suggest opening a cmd prompt as admin..

Click Start - All Program - Accesories then right click on "Command Prompt" and pick "Run as Administrator"

Then simply cut and paste or type the 3 lines in hitting enter after each one.

cd "%programfiles%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3"

      regsvr32 vrpsdk.dll

      regsvr32 vrpmapping.dll

      Don't work on my W7 ultimate x64.
      App closed.

(but the patch r1 version, worked. but after i put the number, searched forever)
And i must change my resolution to 1920x1080 because 5760x1200 or 1920x1200 is not supported by app

i will test on my mac, with boot camp.

Did you download and install the Sony Remote Software? If yes, then you got a typo it has to be EAXCT (Dos is not case sensitive)...
      Code:
cd "%programfiles%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3"
CD = change directory, DOS has to be told where an item is, or in this case, we're changing directories to the install folder.

Crap that could be why mine doesn't work, I'm poor, so my laptop is only 720p.

I have a question for those who did get it to work, did the program take you off your normal Wifi, and connect you to the PS3 wifi? Or did it register right on your own lan?

If you aren't stuck on the Crashing click part, you may just want to drop it at this point, you've been given a good deal of help and Step by Step instructions in the Read Me file.

As for Wireless device I have a Linksys WUSB54G v4, it may also be work noting that I'm on a wired network with my PlayStation as well.

Also if i run the search with the PlayStation system off it does not crash immediately, but rather scans for the full minute. If i run the scan with the system on at all, Wired or Wireless the scanner crashes.

copy all the files in the VrpPatch.zip to where the application is installed. (use windows explorer)

      C:\Program Files\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3

And pick to REPLACE on copy.

I was having this problem but I fixed it. This was happening to me because AVG viewed that file as infected. Even though you might ignore the pop ups that AVG provides you, it still does not let you access the file.

You have to make AVG's Resident Shield exclude the location where the file is located at and there should be no errors after that.

The no text means the vrp.exe can't find the language files.

I'm also crashing right after the 8 digit number input. It only happens if the ps3 is in remote device discovery which leads me to believe that the error happens during the connection process. I've been tinkering with all my network settings, firewalls, etc but to no avail.

I'm assuming that I can't launch it because I'm on Vista not Windows 7? Forgive me for the probably obvious question seeing that this is listed as for W7, I just want some confirmation before I try any more fiddling. I'm getting a USER32.dll error at the moment.

      Currently getting:
The module "VRPSDK.dll" failed to load.

Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files.

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxtrace.exe tool for more detail.

I was able to register the other .DLL but not this one on my laptop. I have already done this on a desktop PC before the laptop so I know I am doing it properly.

      Event viewer says:
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Programfiles\Sony\Remote Play with Playstation 3\VRPSDK.dll". Hey the program runs fine for me up until searching for Playstation 3. I think I know why but I need help to get connected to my PS3.

when you click register device, PC on your PS3 it makes a new network connection to find it on your computer go to your network connections it should come up as PS3REGPC_3149* (numbers are random). where my problem is I go to connect to the network and it asks me for a security key. Where do i find the key? I've tried everything I can think of.

The card in my laptop is the Atheros AR5007EG, to be more specific.

Not sure if you can map buttons in the sony application, but if you can, hook a ps3 controller up through usb on your computer and install the motionin drivers. Then map the buttons in the program to your ps3 controller instead of your keyboard.

I'm getting the same crash as most of the people here. I'm using Win7 Ultimate x64 and I did everything step by step including the cmd commands successfully. It still crashes regardless on several Wi-fi adapters (pci and usb and yes I disabled the adapters before I use a different one) after I enter the 8 digit code. Even trying it with just straight ethernet or Wi-fi and or mixed it still crashes.

Anyways besides my problem for those who have got it to work, besides video dvd/BR limitations. What can you run for games?
Is it the same limitation as the PSP or can you actually play more games than the PSP allows?

I would think remote play is remote play and has all of the same functionality. No more, no less.

It sucks that it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem. Buying a usb wireless adapter would be a cheap enough fix and much less headache than messing around with it for hours. I tried it on a pretty fresh install of windows 7, too. I can't figure out what I would have done to keep this from working.

      Hi...

Has anyone experience this when on remote play, the screen will flicker and then goes blank(black) for a couple of seconds then back.

Also will there be a patch for the Remote Keyboard for PS3?

I know it doesn't crash on me if the PS3 in question isn't on but soon as I have it on and in the search mode it crashes.

Perhaps people should post what wireless USB adapter they used to get it to work. All of mine doesn't have native drivers for Win7 x64 and had to use XP instead.

The PS3 slim that I'm trying to remote play already has my PSP registered. I wonder if the people who were successful didn't have anything registered (besides the PC) in the first place.

Nothing registered on mine and I still get the crash. I have a slim too, perhaps that has something to do with it.

On a somewhat unrelated note does anyone know if using a loader to change your pc's manufacturer to sony will allow the original app to work? Would try it myself but I don't have access to my files now.

I don't think a loader will do it but spoofing the Mobo Bios could, and even if you do have a bios mfg loader and you have a legit Win7 it may invalidate your Windows activations.
If you have a modified Mobo Bios for slip key activation would be the best bet, but then again at the expense that you invalidate your windows activation.

It'll be easier for all of us to have them work on a bypass to skip the Sony laptop/computer instead. Don't go try making your computer spoofing to be a Sony machine unless someone makes a front loader that doesn't modify or change that can jeopardize your windows activation.

Same issue as everyone here, crashes while registering with the PS3, gets the same message as posted before "Remote Play with PlayStation3 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will blah blah blah".
I have a Toshiba Satellite... U305 I think. I recently installed Win7 and haven't installed anything but Firefox on it.
It has built-in wireless, shows as Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN on device manager. Only thing of note is a partition running XP. I'm also using a PS3 Slim.

Seems its a media only solution, no games can be played over it to the best of my knowledge, not even PS1 games Hopefully extra support will come with updates. Wish they'd work with OnLive, their technology looks promising.

I am not sure if I am not just smart enough or what, but I cannot get this to work for the life of me... I am running a 64-bit version of windows 7, and I have all of the hardware requirements. I've installed the "official" remote play from your read-me, and I extracted everything... I try to run command prompt like you said, but it won't cooperate. It always has some excuse why it won't work. Is there any helping me? I know you guys are smart enough. Im using a desktop with a USB Cisco Wireless adapter. At first it was freezing after I clicked next and put in my key. I noticed while my PS3 was in remote play registration mode a new wireless network appeared. I found out if I am connected to a current wireless network the program will freeze up BUT if I disconnect from my current wireless network and leave it disconnected I get another error message to come up. not sure but maybe my experience can help. i have vista and installed 7 on vmware and used a belkin usb wireless adapter. worked fine but it lagged, seemed like my processor wasnt enough to keep up with everything. partitioned my hard drive and set up a dual boot system. im getting the "program has to close" message after the number input. im no expert but it seems like hard ware issue. the simulated stuff worked fine but it the actual hardware seems to be the only difference between to two situations. same wireless card and same version of windows 7 ultimate 32 bit was used in both situations. i dont know enough about this stuff to figure this out but maybe someone else can.

It sounds like this is so close, but I've tried it on two machines and it crashes when it's trying to register with the PS3. I tried it with the PS3 off and just a random code and it timed out instead of crashing. It leads me to believe that there's something going wrong when it's actually trying to communicate with the PS3. Unfortunately I'm not knowledgeable enough to figure it out.

I just tried manually disconnecting from my wireless network before trying to register. It didn't crash, but it timed out instead. Looking at the network activity it did create and ad-hoc connection to the PS3 and connect to it, but there was never any downstream activity.

Sorry for the slow reply, been on vacation.

Anyway, as you can probably see from the Vista errors the main problem is with the multi gesture stuff related to Win7 which are missing from the Vista USER32.DLL.

The extra files I modified are about 900kb zipped, I'll try and find a place to upload them to.

For those wanting to run this on Windows Vista, it's a pretty simple thing to do as I've managed to stream line my original updates to a minimum and figured it simplest to just say how to get it working instead of distributing the files, since the changes are so minimal.

After installing the application according to NTAuthority's instructions on Windows Vista, you'll see the following error:
The procedure entry point GetGestureInfo could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll.

To get around this you'll need a couple of tools to get it working.

      Patch procedure:
      1. Follow the NTAuthority's instructions in the readme file in patch package
      2. Install HxD Hex Editor
      3. Run HxD as Administrator
      4. Open the file: "%programfiles%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3\UFCore.dll"
or "%programfiles(x86)%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3\UFCore.dll" on 64-bit windows.
      5. Find the string "USER32" (Find -> Ctrl-F)
      6. The text USER32 should be visible. Change to USER32 to ASER32. (Note by default the text is overwritten, so just place the cursor before the U in USER32 and press A.)
      7. Save the file UFCore.dll and exit HxD.
      8. Download the file aser32.dll from http://code.google.com/p/user32hooki...ame=aser32.dll and save to "%programfiles%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3" (or "%programfiles(x86)%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3" for 64-bit windows)
      9. Run "Remote Play with Playstation 3".
If all goes well it should start the registration procedure.
Note: if you get the error:
Remote Play with Playstation 3 cannot be used in this screen mode. Remote Play with Playstation 3 will quit.
Change your screen resolution and try again. e.g. 1920x1200 is unsupported for whatever reason, 1920x1080 is ok though...

So guys, this only works on Wifi right?

Any way to get it to work through LAN? Like, pair it in another PC with it's MAC address changed or something?

I did everything via LAN. My PS3 and computer are both connected via a router using wired LAN connections. They paired up first time without problem, never did anything via the WLAN.

Not sure why it's mentioned in the README that a WLAN card is needed for pairing. No need for that from what I could see.

Have you actually tried pairing over the LAN connections?

How exactly did you pair it with the PS3 through a wired network? The PS3 says that after the 8 digit code I'll need to choose the wireless network to connect to, If I don't have a WLAN then how will it connect to it?

*edit* I noticed it crashes after the dialog box switches from Searching for PS3 system to Registering, so it finds the PS3 but it crashes right after?

*edit2* Can someone that already has this working see if there are any settings I can add manually to this registry folder?

I see you're running Windows 7 (O.S. 6.1.7600), I'm running Windows Vista (6.0.6002), so I can't really help with that crash. But you're not the only one that got it. Looking throught the thread a few others see a similar error.

Might be worth checking that there's no issues with the antivirus etc and make sure windows if fully updated etc. Update the chipset drivers and video card drivers too.

Regarding the LAN registration, to be honest I don't think I read the full text on the PS3 after the 8 digit code. But I'll re-register the PC now and see what it says.

Ok just re-registered, on mine it says connect to the PS3 access point or to the access point the PS3 is connected to. Instead of that I just had both machines connected to my router using wired ethernet and it found the PS3 directly and registered the PC no problem.

      Sorry not much help..

This happened right after you entered the code right?

I think mine finds the PS3, and crashes right after so being a wired LAN is probably not the problem.

My program crashes when it starts "Registering to the Playstation3 system...", like almost everyone here

I'm on a HP Pavilion dv4 notebook running genuine Windows 7 Home Premium.
My Wireless card is intel wifi link 1000 BGN

If anyone know some thing to fix it, i'd like to know it.

I'm having the same problem most of you described (program stops working when goes into Regintering with the PS3 or something like that), with both a laptop HP G42-230br (using both wifi and wired LAN, running genuine W7 Home Basic) and a PC (Asus MB, 2GB DDR, GeForce 9800GT, running W7 64 Ultimate, no wifi card, just wired connection).

Strangely, I've got it working almost perfectly (only problem was it was VERY laggy) on an older laptop, an Acer Aspire 5610 running W7 32 ultimate and connected via Wireless LAN.

When I try to register my computer with the PS3, the program reports that "Device registration was stopped because an unexpected error occurred.(0x8004c823)".

Seems that when you start the registration on the PS3 that starts the wifi host/server.
Entering the reg number and next on the app tries to re-connect the wifi and causes the crash. Doing this part manually (connect wifi) usually gets past this point (sometimes it asks for the wifi key) but time it right and you get your wifi connected to the PS3 and the registration begins.
For me however, it still doesn't connect and register.
Great work on the crack but perhaps the prog is a but specific to the Sony hardware, screen res and OS that makes it limiting on other hardware varietes.

Ok... So this may sound dumb, but I don't know. To connect your PS3 to your PC for remote play, does your PS3 have to be signed into PSN? If so then you can't play it unless you are up to date on your PS3 FW then can you? Someone let me know please if this is how this works. If not great, but if so then meh...

Edit: Ok so I think I found my answer. If you want to play locally, you can connect via your router without signing into PSN. If you want to play over the internet, PSN is required to be signed in on your PS3, which would make having a jukebox of games via Backmanager useless and get my PS3 banned... Grrr... I was happy about this at first! Someone let me know if I'm wrong, but this is what I found after more research...

Sony's Remote Play for VAIO computers running Windows 7.

Now, i have recently setup a newest Vaio and visited their software repository as a legitimate customer.

There is a NEWER Sony Remote Play version and also Remote Keyboard, which was never patched to my knowledge, but still could be extremely useful with chatting and PS3 browser ( allows the use of Vaio laptop keyboard as a PS3 keyboard )

Here are the latest versions, described and linked :

      Please NTAuthority, PATCH THOSE TOO

      1. Remote Play with PlayStation 3 - 1.0.2.06210

      What is this?
This application allows to play PlayStation 3 games remotely on the VAIO.

      What does it fix?
Remote Play screen might turn black for a few seconds if the wireless LAN signal is poor or signal interference has occurred.

How do I perform this update?
      1. Exit all running programs.
      2. Download this update and save it to your hard drive.
      3. When the download is completed, locate the downloaded file in the location you specified.
      4. Double-click EP0000226214.exe to run it.
      5. Wait while the wizard updates your software.
      6. When the installation is complete, restart the VAIO.

Windows 7 64x SP1 (Build 7601 ) This is not working. Done all the instructions after I enter 8 digital code it gets crashed. Have my Kaspersky Crystal RC2 disabled (router firewall disabled, uac and windows firewall disabled as well). Sony PS3 connected to router(ASUS wl500gu) via wi-fi and PC connected via lan cable coming from router.
      PS3 SLIM have 3.61 OFW.

      Computer specs and programs installed:
Amd Phenom 8650 tripple core 2.42 ghz
      GPU nvidia geforce 450 gts
      Motherboard ASUS m2n-SLI
(wi-fi card PCI slot - Realtek 8185 wireless device)
      SSD DiskCorsair_CSSD-V32GB2
      Monitor Acer GN245hq bmid

      Programs:
      net framework 1.1 , 4 client profile,4 extended
      visual c++ 2005 redistributable + (x64) visual c++ 2008 redistributable + (x64)
      + x 86 9.0 .30729,4148 + 9.0.21022+ 9.0.30727.17 + 9.0.30729.4148

Why it crashes after I enter 8 digital code? Give me the answer.

i dont get it what exactly is this for?
is it so that people who dont have a vaio pc can use the vaio remote play program for remote play with their ps3 on a non vaio laptop?
i have a vaio laptop so is this of no benefit to me?
i really would like to use remote net play with my pc or even better with a psp, anyone know if that is possible ?with psp i mean ,a psp with a cfw on it,and a ps3 with cfw of 3.41jb and no psn
i know you do local remote play with psp but what about over the net w/o psn on ps3?

      Hi all

Got remote play working on my windows 7 compag laptop. Now only if we can extract the setting needed to make "Open remote play" work as then we will have ability to play some games right? did a quick look at the files in the sony software install folder and found nothing obvious. Cant really do any serious looking!!

Been searching on the web and doesnt seem to be something that has been done or looked into. Any bright folk out there wanna help fulfil my wish? lol guess ill have to buy a psp to do it!

      http://ps3devwiki.com/index.php?title=Remote_Play

i made a loader, you can get it there. It should fix the msvcr80 crash...its main part is the non-vaio_pc patch tho

simply copy launcher exe + dll into the dir...
use the original files kinda...tho it should work with the vista aser32.dll too.

      have fun!
