Sony just keep doing it over and over again, one small problem after another, most recently the 3.41 HDD problem, it appears that another problem has arisen, a user by the name of AdorableNirvash on PS3Trophies has reported having playback problems whilst trying to watch a movie, on his PS3.
He also show’s a video from a Youtube user called alexsaeed8, who has the same problems, here is what alexsaeed8 said:

Recently Ps3 have come out with this new update that automatically downloads and installs this program called “Cinavia” which protects against piracy movies by analyzing the sound of the movie that is playing and compares that to the original version to see if it matches and based on that it will allow or doesn’t allow the ps3 or BRDvd players to play the movie you will get 2 most common messages
1: it will say it can’t play the movie because of a copy right violation.
2: it will say the audio for this movie has been mute and it wont play any more sound just the picture it all depends.
so based on this information i have made a short video of how i been watching movies on my ps3 and by passing the cinavia technology. The only way i been able to watch movies is to speed it up by x1.5 or higher cinavia can’t pick up the sound at that speed and its not so bad once you get use to it at least for now until someone come out with another solution.

    And his video:

AdorableNirvash has said that, it seems to be based on audio, but any attempts he has made to try and alter the audio, have given him the same response.

So if this isn’t an isolated incident, then all of us who back up our movies, to play them on our PS3, will be affected, have any of you had this problem.

It happens every time a firmware is released, someone complains about the update causing problems and this update is no exception, forum member $n!pR mentioned, here on Wednesday, that those that updated, were having problems upgrading their hard drives, on Thursday Examiner.com confirmed this, here is short snippet from their site:

The problems being reports are the following: PS3 owners are unable to update their system to firmware 3.41, HDD upgrades aren’t being allowed, systems are crashing, and after installing a new HDD the system isn’t fully downloading the file and then prompts users with a message stating ‘no applicable data found’.

Sony did respond to online inquiries regarding this topic with this response:

“We apologize for any inconvenience you are experiencing with upgrading Internal Hard Disc Drive (for PlayStation®3) on your PlayStation(R)3 computer entertainment system. The information available to our Consumer Services Department does not suggest that this is a problem PlayStation(R) owners are likely to experience when upgrading the HDD with 3.41update. Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) strongly supports the quality of its products and backs them with full confidence.

We ask that you update the previous HDD first to see if the update will go through. Then update from the thumb drive that is formatted in FAT 32 and has the 3.41 update downloaded.”

Now before everybody starts screaming, “But i have a 320GB HDD and i updated fine”, this dosnt affect you guys, it affects those who are tring to upgraded their HDD’s after updating the firmware.

Whilst most of you younger gamers, around 14/15, wont remember the first outing of Medal Of Honor, i remember it quite vividly, having received it as a Christmas present, i spent the whole day playing it and the following weeks as well, i bought the sequals on the PS1, PS2 and on the Xbox 360, all those games were based on World War Two and although at the start it was fun, there is only so many times you can play a game based on WWII before it gets boring.

This October changes all that, Medal Of Honor will be released and it will be set in modern day Afghanistan, so for some of you, this might be your first MoH outing.

    Plot:Sourced from Wikipedia.
There will be one seamless single player campaign. The player will play as multiple characters that each partake in diverse and unique experiences from both the “Tier 1” and “Big Military” perspectives. The storyline will follow several “Tier One Operator” soldiers working under the National Command Authority in Afghanistan during the 2001 War in Afghanistan. Players will also step into the shoes of an Army Ranger and will fight on a larger scale than the “Tier 1 Elite Ops” campaign, as players will only be a small part of the ‘war machine’. The campaign will be heavily weighted (with regards to playtime) in favor of the Tier 1 group.

Fight Today’s War: Elite Special Forces in a gritty combat campaign using the surgical tactics of Tier 1 Operators combined with the sledgehammer force of Army Rangers.

Unparalleled Authenticity: Intense story with incredible pacing and variety set in the rugged Afghanistan landscape, creating a shooter experience only available from the storied Medal of Honor franchise.

Online Multiplayer Redefined: Developed by the world-class team at DICE (makers of Battlefield Bad Company 2) this fast paced combat delivers the perfect mix of tactical warfare and all-out action.

There of course will be a Limited Edition Version of the game, which will have:
    * MP7 – Exclusively in the Limited Edition, is a weapon utilized by Tier 1 Operators in the field. With its light weight, high rate of fire as well as its ability to penetrate body armor, the MP7 handles like a pistol yet allows targets to be engaged like a rifle.
    * TOZ194 and 870MCS Shotguns – Get instant access to these two devastating shotguns for close quarters combat.

Here is a video for you to enjoy:

Yesterday i posted here about the new DMCA rules, that would give us greater freedom with our devices, well it seems that in Britain this law may be defunct, as a court in London, England has made it illegal to import, buy, sell or advertise the popular R4 homebrew device, anywhere in the UK.

Whilst this may be good at combating piracy, it kicks every legitimate homebrew user in the face, handheld emulation is fun and was very easy with these R4 carts, there are other homebrew carts available to buy in the UK, but how long will it be before they are also made illegal.

This also questions when other devices that enable us to enjoy homebrew, will be made illegal.

It seems someone has slipped up somewhere, Maxconsole has reported that an exploit in the Xbox 360 version of, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, can unlock those XBLA demos you have downloaded and turn them into the full game, here is what the website had to say.

Oh dear! Certain publishers on XBLA will not be happy. We have it on good authority from L-S that an exploit has been found in Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox 360 that allows owners to unlock full versions of some XBLA games. The ‘exploit’ works on certain games (especially SNK) including Metal Slug 3, Fatal Fury Special, and Samurai Showdown II. Full details inside. *Update* Multiple users are claiming it really does work and with achievements!

In order to unlock the full versions of these games on XBLA, here’s what you have to do:

    - Download the XBLA demo of these games (obviously)
    - Launch your MW2 game
    - Stay on the main screen (where “press start is present)
    - Push “guide” button
    - Select “quick start” and select your XBLA game

Done ! There are many games that work with this trick although not all!

Full details will be posted at Logic-Sunrise.com in due course but for now they thought they’d share this with us exclusively!

*Update* L-S claims there is more to it and will reveal more later. However, they are still claiming the above method works

A number of users are claiming it does WORK and even with achievements. Major OOPS for MS!

    Full story and updates:

This will at some stage be patched and there is no telling if this will get your console banned or not, so be careful when attempting.

Recently the Librarian of Congress James Billington loosened the grip on the anti-circumvention provisions of the DMCA(Digital Millenium Copyright Act), which gives us better freedom over our devices, meaning that we can Jailbreak an iPhone without breaking the law, or back up our Computer Games legally.

Here are the rules in full.

The Librarian of Congress has announced the classes of works subject to the exemption from the prohibition against circumvention of technological measures that control access to copyrighted works. Persons making noninfringing uses of the following six classes of works will not be subject to the prohibition against circumventing access controls (17 U.S.C. § 1201(a)(1)) until the conclusion of the next rulemaking.

    (1) Motion pictures on DVDs that are lawfully made and acquired and that are protected by the Content Scrambling System when circumvention is accomplished solely in order to accomplish the incorporation of short portions of motion pictures into new works for the purpose of criticism or comment, and where the person engaging in circumvention believes and has reasonable grounds for believing that circumvention is necessary to fulfill the purpose of the use in the following instances:

    (i) Educational uses by college and university professors and by college and university film and media studies students;
    (ii) Documentary filmmaking;
    (iii) Noncommercial videos.

    (2) Computer programs that enable wireless telephone handsets to execute software applications, where circumvention is accomplished for the sole purpose of enabling interoperability of such applications, when they have been lawfully obtained, with computer programs on the telephone handset.

    (3) Computer programs, in the form of firmware or software, that enable used wireless telephone handsets to connect to a wireless telecommunications network, when circumvention is initiated by the owner of the copy of the computer program solely in order to connect to a wireless telecommunications network and access to the network is authorized by the operator of the network.

    (4) Video games accessible on personal computers and protected by technological protection measures that control access to lawfully obtained works, when circumvention is accomplished solely for the purpose of good faith testing for, investigating, or correcting security flaws or vulnerabilities, if:

    (i) The information derived from the security testing is used primarily to promote the security of the owner or operator of a computer, computer system, or computer network; and
(ii) The information derived from the security testing is used or maintained in a manner that does not facilitate copyright infringement or a violation of applicable law.

    (5) Computer programs protected by dongles that prevent access due to malfunction or damage and which are obsolete. A dongle shall be considered obsolete if it is no longer manufactured or if a replacement or repair is no longer reasonably available in the commercial marketplace; and

    (6) Literary works distributed in ebook format when all existing ebook editions of the work (including digital text editions made available by authorized entities) contain access controls that prevent the enabling either of the book’s read-aloud function or of screen readers that render the text into a specialized format.

Sony aren’t shy in rolling out useless updates and they are rolling out another update soon, here is a quote from the Official PS3 Blog.

Hi everyone, the next PlayStation 3 (PS3) system software update is coming soon. Firmware update 3.41 will add recommendations for games and videos on PlayStation Store. When you’re browsing through the details of a particular title, you’ll see a new “You May Like” section on the right-hand side. This section lists additional items based on the purchases of other PlayStation Network members who have purchased the item you’re currently looking at.

You can then click on this section to zoom in on the list and scroll the recommended titles.

This feature is a great way to discover new games that you may not know about, and it’s another step toward making the shopping experience easier and better for you all — similar to the five-star ratings feature we added in the last firmware update. Please note that while the 3.41 update will be released shortly, the recommendations feature on PlayStation Store is slated to go live by the end of July.

As i reported a few times on the forum, several PS3 owners are suing Sony for the removal of the Other OS, an undisclosed, source of Maxconsole has reported to them, that all the Other OS lawsuits, will be combined into one huge lawsuit, here is what Maxconsole said:

Here’s the information a source received from a legal offering (who has given to us and wishes to remain anonymous):

In essence, the claims in these cases are that Sony Computer Entertainment of America (“Sony”) falsely represented that PS3 purchasers would be able to use their PS3s as a computer by installing another operating system, such as Linux. In a recent firmware update, Sony removed the ability of consumers to utilize this feature. As a result, seven class actions were filed against Sony in federal court in San Francisco, California.

We are pleased to announce that, at the request of all counsel, United States District Judge Richard Seeborg has consolidated all of the pending class actions against Sony relating to “Other OS” litigation into one action. As part of that consolidation, the attorneys in the consolidated actions agreed upon an organizational structure to prosecute this action against Sony as a united front. At the request of all of the attorneys, Judge Seeborg ordered that three law firms with offices in San Francisco where the litigation is pending will serve as co-lead counsel (Calvo & Clark, LLP; Finkelstein Thompson, LLP; and
Hausfeld, LLP). We are also pleased to announce that Meiselman, Denlea, Packman, Carton & Eberz P.C. has been appointed by the various plaintiffs’ law firms as the firm responsible for acting as a liaison with you and other potential class members. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any inquiries you may have concerning the litigation, and we will periodically update you as developments warrant.

The next step in the litigation is to file a Consolidated Class Action Complaint, which we anticipate filing by the end of the month. Sony will then respond to the Complaint, and we will return to the Court in September to discuss the next steps of the litigation.

Here is a list of links, for information regarding the names of Judges and Lawyers mentioned above.
    Judge Richard Seeborg
    Calvo & Clark
    Finkelstein Thompson
Meiselman, Denlea, Packman, Carton & Eberz P.C.

Last month NTAuthority, released a working patch here for using Sony Vaio Remote Play software, with any non Sony computer, his method worked on Windows 7.

Today ned.smitty released a method to get the software and NTAuthority’s patch running on Windows Vista, here it is:

For those wanting to run this on Windows Vista, it’s a pretty simple thing to do as I’ve managed to stream line my original updates to a minimum and figured it simplest to just say how to get it working instead of distributing the files, since the changes are so minimal.

After installing the application according to NTAuthority’s instructions on Windows Vista, you’ll see the following error:
The procedure entry point GetGestureInfo could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll.

To get around this you’ll need a couple of tools to get it working.

    • A Hex Editor e.g. HxD editor
    • aser32.dll from teraapi’s user32hooking project “USER32.dll Hooking DLL (Disable Gesture API)” available on:

Read more about teraapi’s user32hooking project here: http://code.google.com/p/user32hooking

    Patch procedure:

    1. Follow the NTAuthority’s instructions in the readme file in patch package
    2. Install HxD Hex Editor
    3. Run HxD as Administrator
    4. Open the file: “%programfiles%SonyRemote Play with PlayStation 3UFCore.dll”
or “%programfiles(x86)%SonyRemote Play with PlayStation 3UFCore.dll” on 64-bit windows.
    5. Find the string “USER32″ (Find -> Ctrl-F)
    6. The text USER32 should be visible. Change to USER32 to ASER32. (Note by default the text is overwritten, so just place the cursor before the U in USER32 and press A.)

    1. Save the file UFCore.dll and exit HxD.
    2. Download the file aser32.dll from http://code.google.com/p/user32hooki…ame=aser32.dll and save to “%programfiles%SonyRemote Play with PlayStation 3″ (or “%programfiles(x86)%SonyRemote Play with PlayStation 3″ for 64-bit windows)
    3. Run “Remote Play with Playstation 3″.
If all goes well it should start the registration procedure.

Note: if you get the error:
Remote Play with Playstation 3 cannot be used in this screen mode. Remote Play with Playstation 3 will quit.
Change your screen resolution and try again. e.g. 1920×1200 is unsupported for whatever reason, 1920×1080 is ok though…

The much anticipated sequel to the awesome Dead Rising game, will be released on the 28th of September in North America and 1st October for EU on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3.

The game is set 5 years after the events of the original Dead Rising. The zombie parasite that originated in Santa Cabeza and caused the Willamette outbreak has spread all over the United States. This is due to the 50 orphans scattered throughout the United States who had been injected with the parasite; subjecting them to zombification and infecting the rest of the US. The game will take place in the fictional setting of Fortune City, which is modeled after Las Vegas, Nevada. The game’s protagonist, Chuck Greene, is a former national motocross champion who takes the role as one of the very few uninfected humans in the city. Just like Frank West (the player-character from the original Dead Rising), Chuck will face a number of zombie hordes as well as surviving psychopaths and civilians whom he may choose to save. Among the survivors in Fortune City is Chuck’s own daughter, Katey Greene, who was infected in an attack that killed her mother. Katey serves as Chuck’s primary motivation for battling the undead. He tries to earn money to keep his daughter on the infection suppressant “Zombrex”, introduced in the original Dead Rising as the synthetic Frank West was using.

    Key Changes/Additions to the game:

    • The photography mode is gone, this wouldn’t really fit in the game, as the new hero is a motocross champion.
    • Combo Weapons Players can combine two everyday items using duct tape to create the ultimate zombie killing creations such as the Portamower and Paddlesaw. Unlocking combo cards along the way will give players the advantage as the helpful cards will show you what items are best for combining. The more zombies you destroy using your creative combo’s, the more Prestige Points you can earn which levels up Chuck along the way.
    • The amount of Zombies on screen at one time, will be raised from 800 to around 6000.
    • Two Player Co Op.
    • Multiplayer Online.
    • Enough of the feature’s, here are some images and video.

Special Editions will be different in EU and North America.

EU’s Special Edition , known as The Outbreak Pack, will feature:

Xbox 360 owners, get the chance to download a game that is set between, the first and second.
Case Zero will be an Xbox 360-exclusive download. It will be available on the Xbox Live Marketplace. It will develop the plot in between the two main games and will act as the demo for Dead Rising 2. The story takes place three years before the events of Dead Rising 2 and involves Chuck’s first large-scale adventure against the horde of zombies. The player can reach up to level 5 in Case Zero, after which the player may carry over his experience and cash earned into Dead Rising 2.

I think ill be getting the Xbox 360 version of the game, i loved the original and although, this looks almost identical, i think i will get many hours of enjoyment out of it.

Those of us, looking forward to 1080p 3D games will be disappointed, as it appears we wont be getting them, games that are natively 1080p, will have a downscaled 3D version, this problem isnt a hardware limitation, it is due to Sony’s guidelines on 3D games.

Sony representative Simon Benson confirmed this during the Develop conference, here is a quote of what he said:

Sony’s Simon Benson explained during a demo of the technology at the conference. While the PS3 is capable of displaying a 1080p 3D image — indeed, it will support 3D Blu-Ray movies at that resolution later this year — Benson said upping the resolution comes at the expense of the silky-smooth 60 frames per second available at 720p (Blu-Ray movies run at 24 frames per second). Benson said that a “more cinematic game” might be well-suited for the lower frame rate and higher resolution, but that Sony’s current guidelines for 3D games wouldn’t allow for such a setting.

The effects of this policy are probably unnoticeable to most gamers. Benson said that, in 3D, even trained computer graphics artists could barely tell the difference between the resolutions.

Well this may be disappointing news for many who were looking to Geohot to hack the PS3. Over the last few hours Geohot has announced his retirement from hacking. He posted on his Twitter “it was a cool ride, and i’ve learned a lot about a lot. perhaps one of these days i’ll do a more formal goodbye.” You will find now that his PS3, iPhone blog and Twitter page or no longer accessible.

I guess we can thank him for the removal of Linux and then letting us hang out there to dry.

    Another Tweet before blog shutdown:
Sorry, this post was probably a bad idea. Next time I won’t say anything. I miss when this blog was actually about technical things(I’ve been reacting too much to the feedback, which led it to the place it’s in now). I didn’t fully realize most of the current scene don’t care unless they are getting something. Now I do. It’s late tonight, I’ll think about what to do about this in the morning.

The real reason behind no release isn’t technical. It’s just that it will never stop, after blackra1n, people demand unlock, after blacksn0w, people demand untethered. I miss the days when jailbreaking and unlocking were difficult, it attracted a much higher caliber crowd.
Also, to the haters, the picture is quite obviously fake
