Sony aren’t shy in rolling out useless updates and they are rolling out another update soon, here is a quote from the Official PS3 Blog.

Hi everyone, the next PlayStation 3 (PS3) system software update is coming soon. Firmware update 3.41 will add recommendations for games and videos on PlayStation Store. When you’re browsing through the details of a particular title, you’ll see a new “You May Like” section on the right-hand side. This section lists additional items based on the purchases of other PlayStation Network members who have purchased the item you’re currently looking at.

You can then click on this section to zoom in on the list and scroll the recommended titles.

This feature is a great way to discover new games that you may not know about, and it’s another step toward making the shopping experience easier and better for you all — similar to the five-star ratings feature we added in the last firmware update. Please note that while the 3.41 update will be released shortly, the recommendations feature on PlayStation Store is slated to go live by the end of July.

Why couldnt they wait and just roll this out in another fw that actually had something useful in it. If a games worth playing, you'll know about it, why bother trying to spoon feed people games they dont actually want :/

The reason why they are doing this is because the firmware contains security updates and they probably know that people are gonna update since they don't really bother digging more into what they firmware actually contains

They should put there cards on the table just like Microsoft have done in the past, but I guess there is still a long way, before we will see that

What I dont get is why cant Sony be honest with their customers? Afterall, we are the ones who give them the money to make these machines, they can at least listen to us.

Bluetooth headset with AVRCP & AD2P support would be nice, instead of the crappy Picture Gallery, or the facebook app. : ( Oh & Better CODEC support, Options for more HDD FileSystems,

I dont see how Sony wont allow /2/EXT3/4/ REISERFS support to be used in the actual PS3 OS, afterall these are open source filesystems, unlike NTFS, now that OtherOS is gone. Perhaps then it would make it easier to hack?

This is just how sony is. I regret buying my PS3, and there is no way I will buy a PS4.

Long ago, when I first got my system, I contacted Sony because the system was broken. It would not play most media files, and it would not read UDF hard drives (but it would read UDF DVDs). They told me that it was not meant to play all of these file formats, and that it was not meant to read UDF hard drives (they also said that it should not read UDF DVDs). I complained because the advertisements had me under the impression that it had a full media center built in, with the capability to play files...they said it does, but it only plays small files of a couple specific, outdated codecs. They actually told me to use OtherOS to get the functionality that they sold me. A couple years later, and they have done nothing to fix the problem...not even the beginnings of MKV support, and on top of that, they removed OtherOS...so now it is 100% impossible to play a MKV file on a PS3 that works with the PSN!

I am saving my pennies and dimes...by the time the PS4 comes out, I will have the cash for a monster gaming PC, and sony can just keep screwing their customers for all I care; I will not be among those getting screwed anymore. :thefinger:

if that was the case then they have taken a feature away again. because if i remember the booklet told me that there was only one screw that could be taken out that would not void the warranty. just so i could upgrade my HDD. if it is real and i can't upgrade my HDD i will filing right along the line of the other-os people because i have no other-os but i sure as hell want my hdd upgradeable. i ran out of room like 4 days after i got the ps3 took mine from 250g to 350g just so i could have music. it sounds like bs any ways

All in all, we should be thankful that this update does nothing...previous updates have bricked systems, removed features, and even broken the web browser (still not fixed).

As $n!pR has said this update is giving people problems installing new HDD's, i dont think any firmware has been problem free.

Yeah...I just read about how they are blocking both hard drive upgrades and system repairs. It is a well known fact that their format tool WILL NOT format a drive unless the drive has nothing on it. Because of this, the only way to fix file system problems is to remove the drive, use a PC to wipe it, and then put it back into the system. Thanks to 3.41, this is no longer possible. I sure hope they fix this, as I have to go through this procedure 1-2 times per year, and if they are intentionally blocking my ability to repair their broken OS, then then there isn't much hope; even buying a new PS3 would only get me 6-12 months before the OS breaks and I have to go buy another one.

So, this is actually one of the worst updates yet...it might actually be more of a problem than the removal of OtherOS...first they removed Linux from the system, now they have crippled GameOS! If I can't use GameOS, and I can't use OtherOS, then this is just an ugly black bock with NoOS.

Im not quite sure they will, from what i have been reading, Sony are saying that the HDD problem inst the Firmwares fault, they are blaming the upgraded HDD themselves, stating that you will have no problem updating if you use the stock HDD.
