This may be bad news for some but according to PSX-Scene, it seems that due to shortage, and high demand the shipping for PSjb has been delayed.

    To quote:

A shortage of components has forced the delay of the product’s launch. There is no longer an official date for shipping to begin but the delay is expected to be anywhere from 3 days to as long as a week.

Retailers will not be receiving their shipment of PS Jailbreak dongles on Friday as scheduled. Anyone telling you otherwise is either misinformed or disingenuous.

The controversial x3Jailbreak, the first PSJailbreak clone, has started to ship out samples for their product in effort to prove their validity. We at PS3Hax also contacted x3Jailbreak and we will be receiving a sample next week (expect a review from us next week as well). Hopefully this clone is true, and a good alternative that won’t burn a hole in your wallet.

    We will keep you updated.

Yesterday, we reported here, that Spanish PS3 Scene Developer DemonHades had his website compromised and several of the files that resided on his server, were leaked and posted as one of his blog posts, unfortunately the files that were leaked were sensitive Sony files, that were illegal for DH to have, he claims that they weren’t his files, and stated that the hackers uploaded the files, to get him into trouble.
Nobody knows for sure who hacked the DemonHades blog/forum, some claim it was the other scene devs he was publicly blasting and others think it was DH himself, that hacked his own blog, these are all just queses though.
Long time PS3 Scene Dev SKFU(StreetskaterFU) has posted his theory/opinion, on his own blog, this is what it says:

DemonHades – Victim or Offender ?
Recently I talked to DemonHades, about the current situation of his blog and forum. As we all should know right now, it was hacked several times this month, the SQL DB of the forum was spread online and finally SONY internal LV3 documentation files were linked on the frontpage.

Did DemonHades leak those files because he was mad or did the hacker put the files online to lead the community in a wrong direction against DemonHades, to finally let him shut up?

DemonHades personally told me he had nothing to do with the leak. Neither I see a reason why he should do this. The forum/blog will be back as soon as he fixed his server issues.

So why this attacks, which seem to be a private conflict between someone who wants DemonHades to give up and Demonhades himself?

At the moment DH works together with Team Jungle (known in XBOX scene as drive hackers). The most recent conspicuous event was the PSJailbreak, which seems to be a direct enemy of team Jungle’s and DemonHades’ BD Drive Research. Maybe members of the PSJailbreak team are behind the attacks? Imagine your own opinion.

Similar fights were and will always be part of the scene. Not everybody can be friends, I guess.

These are just one persons thoughts/opinions, they are not fact, so read of it as you may.

These must be the worst few days over at Sony. According to internet reports, a well known Spanish hacker Demonhades had his blog hacked yesterday (about 3 times), and his SQL publicly leaked. The hackers managed to wipe out his entire FTP, forcing his site to be temporarily shutdown (still closed as of now).

The leaked SQL however contained illegally obtained information for the PS3, such as service manuals, various of other documents and information, and programs/SDKs – all now spreading over the internet like a wild fire.

The leak may further hurt Sony as hackers begin to get their hands on this illegal data and may open up more doors for the PS3, especially with PSJailbreak just around the corner.

    Files that were leaked:

    • sm-bdd-0013e-01-0.rar
    • sm-ps3-0013e-02-0.rar
    • sm-ps3-0073e-05-0.rar
    • sm-ps3-0093e-02-0.rar
    • ta085.pdf
    • scenefree.rar which contains PS3_Generator-1.20

We liked to remind our community that these files are considered illegal, so do NOT ask for them on these forums, do NOT ask for them via private messages. The issue will be treated like warez, and appropriate action will be taken against violators.

Over the last few days I have been busy updating the site back to PS3Hax.net from Haxnetwork.net. Both URLs still work, so feel free to use whichever you like. I have also updated the design on the home page and gave the forum an overall “red theme”. Various other server updates, and clean up work was done including better managed comments on the front page, making it easier to read posts.

The Xbox 360 and PSP sections were collapsed to their respective subforums, in addition we have added a phone section by popular demand.

I have also fixed up the IRC on the forums which was not working for many people. We are now running Mmbbit IRC client which is integrated to the forums, connecting to our server. I have also enabled attaching to forums, so members will now be able to upload various files, including P3T to the site attachments.

That is all for now :)

Ok so some of you may have many questions about PS Jailbreak, reakt from Psx Scene, has created a FAQ thread to help many of us with any queries that we have.

I’m sure a lot of you have been following the initial news post regarding the PS Jailbreak dongle, and like me, you’re probably getting sick of people asking the same questions over and over. Behold: the unofficial PS Jailbreak FAQ. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of this info, it is all copied from other sources at this point and I don’t have one of these units yet for testing. But over time I’m sure we can all work together to make this a very informative and accurate post. Please help by posting your questions and answers below and I will update this post with new info as it becomes available.

    What is PS Jailbreak?
A USB dongle that allows you to backup your PS3 games to either the PS3′s internal hard drive or an external usb hard drive and then play them from the hard drive without the disc.

Where can I see it in action?
World’s first reseller uploaded video showing game loading from hard drive:

    The original thread is here

Pockets69 has taken the time to post it to our site, so please visit his thread here

While we all know PS Jailbreak is clearly overpriced, and costs next to dirt to make, an image has been floating around confirming that PS Jailbreak is enforcing fix pricing, or the company threatens to drop suppliers as authorized retailers. The company sells suppliers PS Jailbreak at $88 USD a pop.

Elotrolado have done some in depth tests on the PS Jailbreak device, here are the results:

    Main points:

    * Backup Manager CAN be uninstalled (his previous comments on this were misinterpreted).
    * Backups created on one console run on any other console with Backup Manager
    * Backup to Internal HDD is far quicker than backup to external HDD
    * Game updates already installed must be uninstalled or the backup fails to load

    Test Results:

    God of War III:
    File Size: 40.10GB
    Internal Backup Time: 90 mins
    External Backup Time: 280 mins

    Red Dead Redemption:
    File Size: 4.83GB
    Internal Backup Time: 15 mins
    External Backup Time: 40 mins*
    * Fails (file over 4 GB)

    Condemned 2:
    File Size: 6.43GB
    Internal Backup Time: 15 mins
    External Backup Time: 40 mins

    Resistance: Fall of Man:
    File Size: 15.40GB
    Internal Backup Time: 35 mins
    External Backup Time: 100 mins*
    * Fails (file over 4 GB)

FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010:
    File Size: 7.36GB
    Internal Backup Time: 15 mins
    External Backup Time: 40 mins

Mathieulh has stated on his Twitter that the guys behind PS Jailbreak used GeoHots exploit and strongly advices us to not update to PS3 Firmware 3.42, as this will probably block the PS Jailbreak Dongle, here are Mathieulh’s tweets.

The psjailbreak guys definitely used Geohot’s exploit, without him it wouldn’t have been possible in the first place.

This is a very clever hack which allows code to run a high privileges on the system. Updating would be a real shame.

You should know by the way that this CAN (and most likely will) be updated/fixed by Sony. Avoid updating to 3.42+ at ALL COSTS.

For those of you interested in following Mathieulh on Twitter, go here

    EDIT(13th January 2012)
I know its extremely late to post this, but better late than never.
But the fact remains, actual fact that is and not guessing, the PS Jailbreak creators DID NOT use GeoHots exploit, there method was totally different.

As we posted here yesterday, a Spanish site claimed to have a clone of PS Jailbreak, which they dubbed x3Jailbreak, it appears that this clone is a fake, according to Nevada from Nyleveia, from what ive heard and seen in his writings, Nevada is quite knowledgeable, so what he says, isn’t to be taken with a pinch of salt, anyhow, here is what he says on x3Jailbreak:

With the internet awash with news coverage for PSJailbreak, sites are popping up all over with fakes, scams, and all sorts of schemes designed to benefit from the rush of interest in PlayStation 3 hacking. Widely reported across the internet is the “world’s first PSJ clone”, the x3Jailbreak.

Their website presently shows a selection of images claimed to be product shots of their yet-to-be-released device. However, this most likely isn’t true.

There’s a high probability that either the device will never exist, or that the team are simply generating hype to establish a following of users for when they do get their hands on the real deal to create their own clone. One thing is certain: the x3Jailbreak PCB they are currently showing is a fake.

As you can see from the above image, both devices follow a similar layout with a bank of SMT’s leading to a crystal oscillator then a flash controller and lastly the SMD (Activity light). On the lower device, the flash memory itself is located on the underside of the PCB, as the many vias present in the PCB around the flash controller indicate. A similar arrangement of vias are present on the purported x3Jailbreak, leading me to believe that there is actually a flash chip present on the rear of “their PCB” too.

Upon further inspection of the original PSJailbreak, it’s obvious that its functionality is completely different from that of a normal USB drive, with ground and data being used as what I assume is a serial connection to the host. Data+ and data- of x3Jailbreaks’ PCB, however, shows me without question that the PCB they are showing off is nothing but the internals for a generic or branded-clone USB flash drive, which is further supported by x3Jailbreaks’ act of masking the flash controller’s printed ID. This chip is most likely an Alcor AU6984 flash storage controller.

There you have it. For the time being at the very least, the x3Jailbreak is fake.

A Spanish site claims to have successfully clone the PSjb and will be available for sale soon.

    To quote:

That is now three days since the announcement of the hack the PS3 has been proven to create excitement on the web. When everyone realized that the long awaited hack console Nippon boiled down to a dongle with a USB output (at a price a bit High), the question on everyone’s lips was “is there an alternative ?, clones … like the linker? “.

The answer is do not wait and made positive, in fact already found on the web advertisements for the first clones, it was still very little information on the selling price of these new “jailbreak” for PS3 or when they are available. What is certain is that for the moment, no team has revealed the list of components necessary for its implementation so that the most talented in electronic solders and can make their dongle HomeMade.

Now we don’t know if it is real or not, but the devs smell it as a fake. But as of now there is no confirmation so we advise you guys to not but this till we have solid confirmation and proof of this working.

A hacker, whom wishes to remain unnamed, has released a PS3 Package GUI @ SKFU’s blog.

    To quote:

The PS3 PacKaGe GUI is used as graphical extension for the make_package_npdrm.exe of SONY’s official PS3 SDK to let it look more user friendly. Perfect for people who want to make a first touch with their PSJailbreak stick @ PS3 development. The confidential SONY file mentioned above is NOT included! Get it your own way.

While we are all up and excited about PSJailbreak (PSjb), there might be a risk on playing with PSjb on PSN. According to SKFUand RichDevX, the Backup manager game ID (LAUN-12345) could be logged/recorded by Sony when logged into PSN (when online). This would obviously allow Sony to see who would be using the illegal PSjb/clone and we could very well see ban waves similar to the Xbox 360. Sony does currently ban PSN/consoles that results in the 8002A227 error code.

As people start getting their PSjb in the next few week, we highly advise that you do not log into PSN while using the backup manager, which means no playing online.

Stay tuned for the latest development on PS Jailbreak.

Well everyone and their grandmother knows what PS Jailbreak, is by now, what we dont know is how it came about, the case is usually someone inside such firms leak valuable information, SKFU wrote his thoughts on the subject on his blog, here is what he said:

While hackers usually had to work very hard to succeed in the videogame scene, now all seems to become a business of corruption and audacity.

A short timeline of the PSJailbreak. How it may have started, succeeded and may go on.

    PAST

Part 1: Someone (called “the fake hacker” below) came in contact with an employee of a SONY service center. The fake hacker probably used a bit social engeneering until the employee agreed to sell him one of the SONY confidential JIG Sticks used in the service centers to test and repair broken PS3 SKU’s.

Part 2: The fake hacker used documentation and software which was leaked by other SONY employees to study the JIG stick. The stick is used to boot a special firmware from itself before the original PS3 firmware starts. The now running system allows to execute debug/fake signed executables which can be created with SONY’s official SDK.

Part 3: The fake hacker shared the information with his team members and people who were able to clone the stick. Probably in china as usual.

Part 4: The stick is clonable, so the fake hacker went on and used stolen/leaked software from SONY’s official SDK to develope (the only real work he did!) the application known as “backup manager” which is used on the PS3 to dump and start the backups.

    PRESENCE

Part 5: The fake hacker distributes high illegal clones of the original JIG stick via several online shops including the “backup manager” which is also illegal as it’s all created with stolen/leaked software and documentation by SONY.

    FUTURE

Part 6: SONY may update the PS3′s bootcode to prevent loading the stick. They also could log the “backup manager”‘s game ID (LAUN-12345) when people go online. So they could identify who actually uses the illegal JIG clone and ban the affected consoles. This would be an illegal step aswell, but hey; it’s SONY.

With the steep price of PSJailbreak , and the possibility of the USB being useless/blocked after a firmware update, many are eagerly waiting for an alternative solution. While we wait for the devs to get in their units, Mathieulh has tweeted encouraging news on his Twitter a few hours ago:

The exact chip for the psjailbreak dongle has been identified, looks like dumping it will be easy.

We encourage all of you to wait before spending money on buying the PS Jailbreak USB dongle, it is only a matter of time before we get a free/alternative version.

For those still who miss OtherOS on the PS3, which was removed with FW 3.21, PCWorld writes a good article asking for the return of OtherOS. Of course it is highly unlikely that the feature will be added again, but who knows…maybe Sony will remove USB support soon too.

    To quote:

Although I never found much utility in Other OS, a Playstation 3 feature that could turn the console into a basic computer running Linux, my heart went out to people who used Other OS before Sony scrapped it.

Sony said it removed Other OS in March to “protect the integrity of the console,” possibly because one hacker came too close to exploiting the feature in a way that would allow piracy. But now, OzModChips claims to have the first PS3 modchip on a USB stick. In theory, this allows people to play bootleg and homebrew games and make disc backups. Supposedly, it can also bypass firmware updates that Sony might use to banish the hack.

If Sony’s piracy safeguards have indeed fallen, I propose that Sony should bring back Other OS. After all, once the integrity of the console is lost, there’s no point in protecting it at the expense of users who did no harm.

A typical argument against draconian anti-piracy measures goes like this: Such attempts are pointless, because they eventually fail, and the only people who suffer are paying customers who have to jump through hoops. That argument didn’t apply to the Playstation 3, because it was rock solid against hackers for almost four years, and legitimate customers were none the wiser.

With the removal of Other OS, everything changed. A feature was lost, and now it appears that Sony’s previously unhackable machine is defeated through unrelated means. I’m skeptical of OzModChips’ solution, which costs $170, until it’s verified by an independent source, but if it’s legitimate, why should Sony pretend that removing Other OS keeps the Playstation 3′s integrity intact?

With PSJailbreak just around the corners it seems that PSJailbreak game dumps are creeping on to the internet:

Also for those unaware, PSJailbreak has a limitation on what games can be played on an external drive. Game dumps with individual files over 4gb currently can NOT be ran via external HDD, due to FAT32 restrictions. These game dumps will only work via internal PS3 HDD. PSJailbreak team is supposedly working on NTFS support.
