• PS3 Hacks , 24.08.2010

Elotrolado have done some in depth tests on the PS Jailbreak device, here are the results:

    Main points:

    * Backup Manager CAN be uninstalled (his previous comments on this were misinterpreted).
    * Backups created on one console run on any other console with Backup Manager
    * Backup to Internal HDD is far quicker than backup to external HDD
    * Game updates already installed must be uninstalled or the backup fails to load

    Test Results:

    God of War III:
    File Size: 40.10GB
    Internal Backup Time: 90 mins
    External Backup Time: 280 mins

    Red Dead Redemption:
    File Size: 4.83GB
    Internal Backup Time: 15 mins
    External Backup Time: 40 mins*
    * Fails (file over 4 GB)

    Condemned 2:
    File Size: 6.43GB
    Internal Backup Time: 15 mins
    External Backup Time: 40 mins

    Resistance: Fall of Man:
    File Size: 15.40GB
    Internal Backup Time: 35 mins
    External Backup Time: 100 mins*
    * Fails (file over 4 GB)

FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010:
    File Size: 7.36GB
    Internal Backup Time: 15 mins
    External Backup Time: 40 mins

Thanks for the test, the problem is with some games that aren t working, can you confirm that ? Can users skip videos in games or not while playing from hdd ? I hope updates can resolve the problems.

This are the games posted - http://psjailbreakinfo.blogspot.com/

Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare (black screen on start)

Assassins Creed (black screen on start)

Call Of Juarez Bound In Blood (jumps back to the menu after some time)

Call of duty modern warfare 2 didn't work.... Even on an internal drive.... I tried twice...

So this is a no go then for anyone who wants to play online if game updates have to be uninstalled.

"* Game updates already installed must be uninstalled or the backup fails to load"

If the user deletes the game updates and try play "first time" logged in the PSN, what kind of problems we have in the future? The first thing that PS3 System detects it's your version of game and suggests you to update to have some new features or corrections! There are no problems for now doing this?

In a older post(PSJailbreak Detectable and Bannable on PSN) a user said that it's possible that $ony can detect PSJB! How we managed to download these updates without be detected in the process ID is called LAUN-12345???

For now i will stay offline of internet and PSN on PS3.

Best regards and thanks for the game tests

you won't be able to play an external backup bigger than 4gb until they upgrade to use the file system NTFS. FAT32 isn't made to handle single large files.

Its bascially better to stick a 500gb (or bigger?) HD inside your machine now, and run the games off that.
Yes, that's a good idea. (better and cheaper than buying an external HDD). But is it possible to mount a 3,5-inch HDD to ps3 slim? It's too big to fit, isn't it?
I've never seen a 1TB 2,5-inch size HDD, it's probably much more expensive than 3,5.

You can have up to 2TB internal storage on your PS3, all you need is a 2TB 3.5" HDD and the right cabling .

      1TB 2.5" HDD's

Ok, but isn't it too big? I mean ps3 slim has 2,5" HDD. Does a 3.5" HDD fit in ps3 slim?

No it doesn't fit inside, the cable stretches from the PS3's HDD Sata board, to the external HDD, but for the extra room, its worth it.

Thanks, and one more question: So, external drive is connected to ps3 via esata (esata to sata connector) and it is ps3 internal drive. What if I connect the drive via USB to PC? Its encrypted for sure. But at least does Windows detect folders, any encrypted files, (backed up games) or nothing because of the filesystem, that ps3 use?
Mainly, I want to transfer backed up games. So I think, that external drive connected to USB is better solution for me. I hope, that there will be other filesystem support for psjb.

      Edit:
By the way, that extender. It can't be used in ps3slim, I think. In slim, we can put a HDD in front, in fat model from side. That thing has SATA input from side, so it can't be used for slim, unless you remove the (whole?) cover.

You can use something like this, http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/c...er-p-2593.html

just a heads up the 1tb 2.5 drive does not fit into the ps3 as its too tall the ps3 can only handle a drive that is 9mmm and the 1tb drive is 12mm, the biggest drive you can put in a ps3 is a 720gb but like greg said with the right cables you can hook up 3.5 drives and then ur limit is 2tb

I'm wondering if game backups can be transferred from PC to PS3 via media server like movies, music etc.
Edit: So if the PSjb allows to run own apps, maybe someone write something to allow, if it is impossible right now.

Actually if access is granted to the system, clever people might implement SMB support in hypothetical CFW.
I even wonder if it cant be done user space.
So we could access our Windows shares!
      Wouldn't it be cool? :P

Are you sure about up to 2tb? Can you confirm it in anyway? I want to buy a 1.5 which i found for pretty cheap. Then hook it up outside with a sata cable but so far everyone iv found has said the ps3 wont run anything over 1tb. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will keep looking as well.
