While we are all up and excited about PSJailbreak (PSjb), there might be a risk on playing with PSjb on PSN. According to SKFUand RichDevX, the Backup manager game ID (LAUN-12345) could be logged/recorded by Sony when logged into PSN (when online). This would obviously allow Sony to see who would be using the illegal PSjb/clone and we could very well see ban waves similar to the Xbox 360. Sony does currently ban PSN/consoles that results in the 8002A227 error code.
As people start getting their PSjb in the next few week, we highly advise that you do not log into PSN while using the backup manager, which means no playing online.
Stay tuned for the latest development on PS Jailbreak.

Don't use their lame backup manager, simple as that.

Would I be able to use psn if I take the dongle out ? Do u think it's worth paying for or do u think we should wait on a free or cheaper version even ?

I think you will have to delete the bootmanager too, and probably backup games. Put out the dongle stick and then log in to psn. But maybe dongle will leave something even when you stop using him, then you can be banned too. But i am not a spec. And i don't know how it really work's.

Most likely yes, as long as you dont run the backup manager. When you launch a game (im assuming this pkg is no different) it reports the game id to the psn server to change your status to show your playing game X. Dont launch the backup manager and sony shouldn't know.

they won't be able to detect it until a new fw comes out, right now the fw has no code to detect such a thing...my 2¢

If you had read the article properly, you would have seen that this has nothing to do with firmware.

The PS3 connects to the PSN and lets it know what application is running, that's why you can tell what game people on your friends list are playing.

nah you can see what games your friends are playing because the game calls a function to set the caption of your status like a comment, that's why you can see exactly what levels people are playing on certain games like LBP. i know i'm not explaining it that well, but what i'm trying to say is none of that gets authed, it's merely a caption.

When you connect to PSN, Sony see's what you do, it see's the ID it shuts down.

that's the best as i can explain, of course i have no hard proof, so we'll agree to disagree.

So if I hadn't updated my PS3 from the older firmware with Linux enabled, can they still track it? I can't connect to PSN, but it connects in the backend so IDK if they still can track me

just a theory...If you were to stay logged out of PSN while using the backup manager then load a game then log in wouldnt the system report the disc (backup) id number instead?

I have a question guys.
If you remove the PSJailbreak from your ps3 and run the game and play online, are you will be identified by sony, and they will ban your device or not?
you have my thanks

It doesn't matter for me,as I am banned for about a year now.I got the f*ing 8002A227.I will be the happiest person when there will be a free method of running backup and will newer buy PS3 games again.

They won't ban you because you're using it, they will prevent you from going online next update untill you make the update, simple as that. They have no need to lose customers.

It's not so dificult to filter informations like the game that are you playing... really.
The time wiil show the scene. I'm already cut the internet connection to my ps3. I've loose the otherOS and will not loose the oportunnity to run unsigned code such Backup Manager. I don't care much about piracy i like to have the real game in the hands, but it's a good idea when i'm at vacations, to leave BD's at home and care an extra HDD.
Best regards

what about using two hdd, one for use with the ps3 jailbreak and another for original games. Just stauy offline when using PS3 jailbreak. What about burning the games instead of installing to hdd, is this possible?
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
Does the fw version sit on the HDD or on the PS3 itself. Has anyone here replaced there hdd and needed to update the fw before the PS3 would work?

mac spoofing is the future?
08-24-2010
12:17 AM
mac spoofing would only help people get unbanned from PSN (assuming they ban by MAC)

No they don't ban by mac, they ban by keyvault ID probably.

i hate to break it to you d0zs, but on any ps3 after and including the 40gb the majority of the fw resides on the hdd, that's why when you upgrade the hdds on them they ask for a flashdrive to be inserted with the current/newer fw that ur ps3 is on, but the 20 and 60gb ps3 do not ask for this as all of the fw resides in memory on the mobo

in an effort to save money sony reduced the amount of flash mem for the fw and moved the majority of it to the hdd in the newer models, the hdds are about the same they are all 2.5 sata hdds that spin at 5400rpm the only diff is storage space
