As we reported here and here and here , DemonHades and his team had manged to get a PS3 Blu Ray drive running on a PC, they have done it again, this time with a newer model of drive, which is present on the slim PS3, they have also stated that they have found a method of extracting the firmware, here is a translated quote from the blog:
Well, I just woke up with this news, our mail Calimba has managed to connect the 304R model is one of the newest, and also ensures better to connect the ps3 slim.
The way forward has been entirely empirical, so we do not try it because it does not show any information on the Internet. Moreover, the good news is that we know to extract and decrypt the FW.
I think that people who criticized us so much, it’s time to bend the ears, and finally admit what this team and this website are doing for the scene …I leave the new reader catches recognized by the pc

In my opinion this could lead straight to launch copy of the games on ps3. If you have BDrecord ofc.

Will sony now disable the bluray drive itself with next firmware update? I mean, they did the same with OtherOS... LOL...

Send that firmware to c4eva and lets start backing up our expensive blu-ray games.

Why are you guys so interested in backups when the price on a Blu-Ray recorder is the same as three games, 5-6 if they're old?

No you are in big mistake Blueray record cost like 100$ + we need Blueray disc 10 pieces cost ~20$ co its much cheap ... I never support piracy, I was hoping on some homebrews or something like this, but sure this is step to understand PS3.

Heh, decrypt and dump the firmware. Right.. then what? CellOS-lv2 recognizes if the attacker has tempered with the firmware. I wonder how will they re-encrypt the firmware so the system can use the BD-drive after a flash. A key is required to authenticate the device. Have they found that as well?

btw "He also claims the team already know how to decrypt the dumped firmware."
so maybe they really have the key.

Well, so much for my BD drive...I hope sony at least lets us keep using it for movies, but knowing Sony, I doubt it.

It's to early to speculate. Sony probably looks at such hack pages and try to avoid, by upgrading firmware such a breaks through their system. Its simple PS2 was hacked very soon cause sony cant change nothing after realase now sony have power couse it can change anything by system update. So simply wait ... GeoHotz aka Magic has left the scene and its much better when he and his breakthrough was on time
