• Homebrew, PS3 Hacks , 17.09.2010

Now this is a app that many of you will find interesting. PS3Hax member Comgenie has released an application that allows you to directly manage your files on your PS3 (so no FTP program required), and also allowing you to move,  and copy them!

    To quote:

Okay, Version 0.01 of my homebrew file manager is done! . It supports directory listing, browsing through them, copy files and also delete files.

    Controls:
D-Pad to navigate (up/down to navigate through files, left/right to switch the active directory listing).
X to navigate into a directory
O to copy the selected file (no directory) to the inactive directory listing.
[] to delete the selected file.

Known issues (will be fixed in a newer version):

    * When copying a file, everything ‘hangs’ till the copy is done.
    * Copying is slow, so just wait!
    * No scrolling yet

Yes that means you can copy PS3 dumps from your EXTERNAL drive to your INTERNAL PS3 drive :)

Great work, indeed you can download the file below and view the original thread below too.

You heard it here first on PS3Hax! Stay tuned for more news.

So would this let us copy games from external to internal directly?

Does it support NTFS? For copied game files larger then 4 Gig. Or is that being worked on with a soon to be released backup manger of the jailbreak version?

      Thanks in Advance

Yes, you can copy from anywhere to anywhere. (Except for the /dev_flash, which is read only.). But i recommend using the newest version (0.02) which you can get at the Release thread here .

I copied a file from internal to external (FAT32USB) and couldn't see the file on PC. When I used Backup Manager direct to external I see the files on both PC and PS3. Any ideas

On some external USB devices (like PSP) files copied to them are not visible in Windows since the PS3 marks them as "System Files". To view them, Enable viewing of system files like explained here .

It's a known issue, and i still don't know why this is happening. But I'll look at it and try to fix it in a newer version.

Manny, as a recently converted noob I would be more than grateful for a youtube video on iso to internal hdd. On psx-scene theres someone claiming they have backed up a game to internal, copied through ftp to PC and burnt a DVD disc and then played that through backup and worked well. Question how would you burn 7-8gb on a DVD ? or is this now stretching some peoples accomplishments/imaginations. Any help greatly accepted.

Speak for yourself. This helps me out a lot! There are certain games I need moved over to my internal drive from my external. Just cause it doesn't help you doesn't mean it doesn't help other gamers.

Also, I've heard many times that NTFS support will take a long time and may never happen. Plus, Backup Manager will also need NTFS support, along with EVERY homebrew program. It's not just like adding a video codec on your pc and saying "Ok now my PC can use MKV files." It is something that has to be added into every program. (If I'm not mistaken.) They might be able to move it along better with custom firmware, but I still think the homebrew apps need it built in.

Comgenie: Just a question: I want to transfer a big file (>4GB) from a FAT32 usb external drive to internal. How do I split the big file in the PC? HJSPlit is enough? Is there any special extension that your file manager recognizes to merge the files when transfering?

      Thanks in advance.

Hi there. Yes you can use a pc program too to split the files. As long as the files are under 4GB and use the following name/extensions:
      mybigfile.big (first part)
      mybigfile.big.1.part (second part)
      mybigfile.big.2.part (third part etc..)

When copying to the internal drive it will automatically find those part files, and merge them.

If they have that much to burn they are using a dual layer DVD. No other way.
