PS3Hax member theblacksheep has figured out how to play ANY PS3 game via “remote play” function!
To quote:
Last night I backup SF4 (little did i know this has trouble seeing the controllers), ran the FTP program, lifted the SFO out, edited in in SFO editor to allow remote play. Then put the SFO file back, entered remote play and ran the modified game. Instead of showing the fail screen for trying to play a non remote play game over remote play this time it worked and we got to the same screen when loading the game properly.
in short: SFO editing games to allow remote play works.
So exactly how is this done? Well follow the tutorial below to replicate the results and play your own games (courtesy of PS3Exploits)
How to:
1. Dump any game of your choice to your hdd
2. Install Ps3 FTP and launch it
3. Connect via ftp and navigate to your hdd folder then to games -> LAUN12345 -> GAMEZ -> YOUR GAME ID -> PS3_GAME
4. Now copy PARAM.SFO and make a backup of it just in case
5. Download SFO Editor open the sfo and check “enable remote play”
6. Save it and then open up the FTP and transfer the modded sfo back into the PS3_GAME folder.
7. Now connect your psp in remote play and enjoy.
Great work indeed! You heard it here first on PS3Hax.

Hopefully this will spark some attention to port psgroove to the PSP I hear alot of people say there PSP just sits around and collects dust but I use mine on a daily basis for great games like Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker or God of War Chains of Olympus. Can you imagine God of War 3 or Final Fantasy 13 or Uncharted 2 on the PSP? Keep up the awesome work guys I am waiting patiently for the PSP port the way I see it is the longer we wait the more improvments are being added to psgroove anyways.

This is fantastic, got to love how quick the scene is progressing. A month ago this kind of feature was a still a wishful thought. Thanks to all the awesome and generous coders, hackers and engineers in the scene giving their time and effort.

Anyone there and remember how long other ex gen console scenes took? this time BAM! release after release daily.
In my opinion this is a reasonable argument why homebrew should be promoted but Sony is a business so I understand they will fight to keep control.
Why didn't they make this feature available themselves all along instead of making me update my f/w everytime I go online to game?
Patience all, it will come, no stopping it. It's always the case, the idea is out there

has any one try the ps3 remote play software that was patch to run on no VIOs

10:57 PM
This is interesting to me because it allows you to modify game information and it still works, this leads to to believe that more exploits can be added to game saves and distributed to people that can not find / afford a Tiny++ or similar. I will begin when I can get my damn hands on one of these dev boards. I should have one in two weeks or so, i cant wait to start hacking the FW.

now if we could find a way to make it so we could still use the ps3 controller synced to the ps3, and just use the psp as the screen for the gaames, then we could play games that need l2 r2 and the right analog stick, or for the pc remote play, to be able to use usb or wireless game pads, truly play your ps3 anywhere around the world with a labtop

PS i came up with the theory and method of just editing the .sfo to enable remote play. you can check my previous posts.... just saying a little credit from pirate would be nice

Either way this is awesome though. Is it possible to do this with downloadable titles? I would love to play me some MM 9/10 on my PSP.

i have never used remoteplay.
dont you have to be within a certain distance of the ps3 for this.
if so what is the point?
dont get me wrong it looks cool, but if you have to stay within a little distance and people are talking about possibly using ps3 controllers, then you might aswel use your ps3?
09-10-2010
02:08 AM
No, you only have to be within range if youre connecting through a direct wireless connection. You can be anywhere though if you connect over the internet. The only problem with this now is you may need to be signed into psn to do this (I dont remember). But ya, you dont need to be within any certain range to use remote play.

02:14 AM
wow this works great but for me i like turning on 1080p for all the games. it may not be true 1080p games but up scanned to 1080p looks better then 720p, i have a psp go so i can hook up my ps3 controller to it so it makes remote play even better. thank you very much for this all my games are now 1080p

03:06 AM
this is great.
i love to play games over remote play.
i cant understand why they are hiding this feauter to us.
so now ill stay with 3.41.
hope there will one day be any solutions to connect to the psn again.
i will try to try out the jailbreak by inserting the original hdd, wich i still have.
it seems to me that the firmware is not partially stored on the hdd anymore.
because i switched hdd and it didnt ask me to update, alltought the original hdd should be with the firmware before 2.40.
the only thing that was still there after switching hdd were the ps3 useraccounts.
maybe they are saved on any chip on the motherboard...
GREAT AND THANX FOR THIS!

I'm looking at the SFO editor now and I can see that it allows you to change the game's Title ID, among other things. Correct me if I'm wrong, but by any chance could it mean that this method might be used to change the Title ID of the Backup Manager from LAUN-12345 to something less obvious and more stealthy?
09-10-2010
03:40 AM
how can u do this, its tellin me to do remote play i need to be signed into psn. but i cant sign in cause im on 3.41 cause the update bypass doesnt work anymore.

You'll need to use a local wireless connection to go from PSP to PS3.
@Hailfire101: Advanced setting in SFOedit can edit Firmware requirements, but we have no games that require higher firmware, yet...
@M3n747: Yes I think it is possible to change the ID of BUM with the SFO editor. Not tested, but cant see it being a problem.

I should say that SniperSnake had this idea, he just couldn't test or being the one to show it to the world because he hasn't receive his board yet so props go out to him too.
And also to Blacksheep for founding it great job.

Red Dead Redemptions use of L1 and R1 hinders playing via remote play a little. The other analogue stick also helps. The sound is also a bit choppy on the intro as it struggles to downscale everything.
Demon Souls (asia version) didn't work, but need to retest.
@Hailfire101: I think November will be the 3.42 disk requirements at the earliest. GT5 is such a system seller that sony will want this patched, but if they've not gone gold, it must be very close to being signed off.
FYI: Original Japanese 20gb model PS3 (100gb now) with 3.41 and Original Fat UK PSP with 5.50m33-6

Great stuff, sony should have had this as a standard feature anyway.
09-10-2010
11:35 AM
on the advance edit there is an option ps3_system_ver when sony bring out a game which requires a update after 3.42 could e not just edit this to show 3.41 and the game would play?

WOW!!!the best news i think since the jailbreaker!!!

Nice find.
Some games may be a tad difficult without the 2nd analog stick but this is definitely a feature worth jailbreaking and backing up a game for.

Bit of advice.
What's the first rule of fight club?
Apply that rule to piracy and you'll have a nicer experience in this forum.
Just a suggestion ok!

FTP server and BUM can be modified to use remote play.

09-11-2010
04:51 PM
does this also allow you to watch blu-ray movies through the remote play? have not used remote play in a long time since it was pretty much useless so i do not recall if you could already do that or not.
09-11-2010
04:55 PM
No don't think so muny, bluray movies don't have sfo files.

Do you have to have FW3.41 to make this work? I added the FTP to my usb mass storage device but it doesn't show up on the PS3 I really want to play my PS3 games on my psp but i don't know how to install FTP.Can someone please help me? .....

Question, what program to launch the game, and where do I find the game? the OM will not function in Remote.
and shouldnt it be in the hdd0/game/OMAN46756/Gamez ,folder?
I have done all of this, and I cant launch flex manager or open mgr with remote play. can you explain more please?
I seem to be missing a vital step.

still cant get it, but I found out the SNES9X works on remote. not that I need it, I have a EMU for my psp.

03:10 AM
I imagine there would be quite a bit of lag between the system and the games, which is why i imagine more titles don't have official remote play, i could be wrong but once i get this figured out i'm gonna check with a few games.

04:46 PM
Iv got this to work with PES 11 but not with dead rising 2. It starts then stays black then goes back to xmb when i click the game for DR2. trying other ones atm.
But thanks :D! its a great discovery anyway :D

I have the VAIO remote play app installed on my dell notebook, and while remote play seems to work fine that way, for some reason it doesn't work on the games even after I've edited the SFO.
The same games work fine when on my psp.
