New update fro blackb0x is out, bringing the version to 1.1b. Change log below, download at the end of the post.

    UPDATE 9/26/2010:

    Changelog 1.1b:
    + Added new mount points: /dev_ms, /dev_sd, /dev_cf,
    /dev_ps2disc, /devps2disc1
+ Added IP address display for ease of use
+ Added screensaver to darken screen after 1m, reawaken on
    controller input
    > Fixed bug in relative paths for RNFR_Command (renaming bug)
    > Fixed (..) parser to allow filenames with (.)
    > Fixed CDUP from root directory bug.

As i posted here CJPC released the first true homebrew app, which was an FTP server, whilst it has worked flawlessly for me, people complained about problems with it, for those that have had problems, we have a new FTP server, brought to us by blackb0x, the team responsible for bringing us the LV2 Dumper.

Here is the readme quoted from the source:

    FTP Server 1.0b

Well since no one has released a bug free, speedy, easy to
use FTP server we decided to take the reigns on it.
Introducing FTP Server 1.0b, it doesn’t crash, it doesn’t
byte shift, and most importantly, it doesn’t suck.
Oh, and its threaded for speedy transfers :)

    Instructions:

Install the pkg to your ps3 (you should know how to do
this by now) then run blackb0x FTP. You can now connect
to your PS3 via the PC FTP client of your choice. Just
fill in your PS3′s ip, port 21, and leave username, and
password blank. To quit the app either press X, or quit
    via ingame XMB.

Tested with FileZilla, FlashFXp, CuteFTP, and WinSCP

Expect more tools from us in the future for the PS3

    Releases:

    9/23/10 – FTP Server 1.0b
    9/12/10 – LV2Dump 0.7a

    -blackb0x

    [DOWNLOAD]

Thanks to SiegStrife for the tip and thanks to the source PSGroove.com for the images.
I look forward to trying this out :)

    EDIT:

    Reported Bugs:

Forum member mihaiolimpiu reports of a serious bug when using more than one connection, that corrupts games copied over, so use only one connection.

It's faster, but I got some errors in a transfer from PS3 to PC, got only 3-4 files from more than 100, and it's say the all files were done.

The first one worked just fine for me, no crashes thus far!!! Im getting 15-20 mb/s transfer, is this any faster than that?

      Great work !!!

I was wondering if someone could do a program like the first boxplorer on Xbox(1) so I could copy the files (downloaded) direct from DVD backup!

you download v3.41 from this site and put it on a usb stick, and then on ps3 you update from other device and NOT the internet option. simples.

Guys, stay clear of this program, I copied 2 games, Little Big Planet and FUEL, all went really fine, games showed in backup manager, but when I startet them none worked... I deleted all saved games, I had never installed FUEL but still no go...
LBP exited to XMB and Fuel - Black screen of death...

Then it struck me.. only these 2 games were copied trough BLACKBOX FTP... DELETED them and Uploaded trough original FTP server with the known settings... and all worked perfectly!!!

I must say that I used filezilla client on all my transfers, for blackbox FTP I selected:
Active Connection type but I didn't limited the number of connections to only 1 like for the first server...

I was wondering why my games wouldn't work.

Seems at though the server doesn't copy the files to the right paths. I found the EBOOT.BIN in a place that it shouldn't have been, so i was getting errors on load up. After checking I found a few other files in there wrong places. I wouldnt wanna go though a game just to find out have way through that I need to delete it and copy again.

yes there is. just plug in any ethernet cord (as long as your laptops nic card is 10/100/100 Gigabit) just plug em in, let your ps3 auto configure your private ip and plug that into the ftp client bam done. Thats what i use so i dont cripple my internet for the rest of the house.

1.1b version does not seem to let me upload (tried passive and active and multiple and single connections). Using the older version now.

I had the same problem but what I did was delete the old connection and add a new one in FileZilla. You may need to reset your PS3 also. Kinda weird but it just started to work.
Single connection is working great. I can now play a couple games that were screwing up on me

I've experienced that some games' larger files don't seem to copy right?

For example, z019_us.ps3.wmp (5.48GB) in white_data\movie\ shows up as being roughly 1.20GB in the internal HDD when looking at it using the FTP. (However, the game did seem to play right, and I put Demon's Souls in the drive to make sure it wouldn't read from the disc instead)

I've had something like that also happen with Nier, only seems to affect files over 4GB?

So, anyone else notice this? Or is it just me doing something wrong?

I've also tried using Filezilla and FlashFXP with active, passive, and limited to 1 connection, settings. Also tried uploading it multiple times - always copies with that same size.

EDIT: I tried copying back the file from the internal hdd to the desktop, and comparing hashes and sizes with the original file. The hash matches, and the size "increases" again. I guess the FTP is just reporting an innacurate file size from the internal HDD on larger files.

Exactly the same here with this FTP server.
I stick with the other one and never had 1 error.
