Reaver from TeknoGods has created a simple application that converts your PS3 ISO’s to PSJailbreak format, allowing it to be ran with backup manager.
To quote from readme:
==Usage==
1. Run tool
2. Open your backup .iso
3. Make folder called GAMEZ in your external USB HDD
4. Extract ISO in GAMEZ (do not make any subfolders!)
5. Run Backup Manager on PS3 with USB HDD plugged in
6. Play==NOTE!==
Required: Jailbreaked PS3 with backups enabled, External USB HDD==Support==
This release is beta quality. If something breaks, review any
pertinent comments on teknogods.com, then email me as a last resort.
Include all log files and a detailed description of problem and
how to reproduce it.

So to my understanding if you possess a Blu-ray drive and can make .iso's (not even sure which software would copy blu-ray's, Imgburn?). In this converter tool you can load up those iso's and convert them into a format which the Backup Manager software on PS3 can read.
Correct me if I'm wrong?

Sorry to disappoint you guys but this program will not work. The manager.pkg file actually removes the encryption layer from the EBOOT.bin. This does not. The backup manager may be able to see the iso once its extracted... cause thats really all this program does. But it will not play it. Hopefully another release will come down the line but this will not play isos previously released by the scene.

if it is just the eboot.bin that need to be decrypted than people will start to share those pre-decrypted eboot.bins like they do with nodvd cracks for pcgames. but again, if it is just extraction of the iso file, than any other application that can handle isos could to the job aswell

Exactly, any program that handles isos could do this. WinRAR even. Again, theres the decryption issue though. We'll see how the scene reacts to the problem, I dont see why people wouldnt just start uploading games ripped by psjb or one of the clones anyway. That is if they wanted to start the piracy downloads, inevitable as they may be.

please dont advertise piracy or provide links to such, it ruins things for the rest of us. we wish this forum to stay open and clean. dont give anybody a reason to try and stop that for us.

I personally do not feel that you spoke out out of line and I doubt any of the other mods do either. This site is not about piracy, for most of us it is about home made code (shared within the community). Piracy is illegal and we have to treat it as such. Yes the jailbreak opened the door for piracy, but in 3 months I will use it for many better things.

I'm in it for the chance of getting linux back myself.
But was just thinking...
"IF" I had an .iso file from my 3.15 linux days lying around,
would it be possible to somehow modify the backup manager
to backup from the .iso instead of the Blu-Ray drive?

Scene releases do not work and neither does this tool.
It's completely unneeded as JB dumps just work.
Oh well that's that
There will be fun these days, as anybody with an Android/Winmo phone can just JB and dump.
