i can not get it to work on my CDMA hero from sprint. I don't know what is going on.
Apparently there is something you are supposed to install for CDMA users. I suggest going over to the PSFreedom Wiki site and clicking on your phone. There are a couple things you need to do for the HTC Hero.
EDIT: Make *sure* you Nandroid before even attempting this. You'll have to use a NAND Restore after you're done to get your phone back to normal. Aside from that, it works perfectly.

I just noticed that Pirate's post contains the outdated links from when it wasn't working. Use the ones from http://psfreedom.com/wiki/HTC_Hero instead until he fixes it.
All you gotta to do next is fastboot zImage then insmod psfreedom.ko.
To fast boot, you have to have the phone off first. Then hold Vol down button then press Power button. When screen comes up (with the three android skaters) press Vol up to get to FASTBOOT menu.
Then cmd prompt on PC
fastboot boot /path/of/zImage (on the pc)
This assumes you already have Android SDK tools downloaded on your pc.
finally got it working, but backup manager when loaded yields a playstation error code 80010007 "An error occurred during the start operation"

Hope they make for Motorola cliq/dext...If they did on Motorola Droid they can do with this phone too! So please psgroove my Motorola cliq/dext!!!! sniff sniff...

Hi! I've got the same problem sal1ace had. Got a rooted Sprint Hero running Cyanogen 6.0. Didn't know about Android SDK tools, but I downloaded them and let the updates install. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get fastboot to boot zImage. Could someone explain how to use sdk tools to allow CMD to fastboot? I've already tried typing 'cd\android-sdk-windows\tools'. I'm not very good at C:\ commands. Thanks

still getting "'C:\android-sdk-windows\tools' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" I'm sure it's something to do with not having sdk tool properly setup. any ideas??

Or is there someone living near den haag/netherlands that can help me??
Ok I've been trying for days and finally have it sorted after following this guide;
I thought I would write some plain instructions for using the GSM HTC Hero to put your PS3 in dev/debug mode, as the ones on the wiki are none to clear.
1. First, you must root your phone and the process may vary depending on which firmware version you are on. I presume most are on 2.1 so follow the guide here. http://www.roothtchero.co.uk/
2. The only difference to the above is instead of flashing the recovery image in the guide, you are going to flash the new recovery image with the ps3 hack built in. Download from here: http://data.fuskbugg.se/skogsturken/...m-1.0-bdvd.img
3. After you have rooted and flashed the custom recovery image, you need to reboot the phone into recovery mode. Turn off the phone and turn it on into Recovery Mode by holding down Home and Power buttons to turn it on. Keep holding them until you see the recovery menu with an image of a ps3 on the background.
4. You then need to plug the Hero into the USB port of the ps3 and pull the power cord on the ps3 slim, or switch off on ps phat. Turn the ps3 back on and quickly press power then eject on the console.
5. You will know if you have done it correctly as the ps3 will take a bit longer than usual to boot and you will also see “Install Package Files” under GAME on the XMB.
6. Take a USB flashdrive and copy the ps3 backup manager package onto the root of it. (google for the file)
7. Plug into the ps3 and it should appear under “Install Package Files” under GAME on the XMB. Install it and then you can run it and backup your legally owned originals.
8. Once the ps3 has booted into dev mode you can remove your phone and reboot it back into its usual mode. But if you turn of the ps3 you will need to repeat steps 3 & 4.
Help is needed. O please god help me. I downgraded my CDMA hero today. I have the correct kernel im ready to go.
Problem is it took me an hour just to figure out how to boot up in Fastboot. Im there now but see no option for zImage. The step im currently on...
Fastboot the zImage (fastboot boot /path/to/zimage/zImage)
My options are;
VOL DOWN HBoot Mode
MENU Reset Device
ACTION Restart HBoot
If someone could help me here I can tell im getting close to modding the ps3. I've been at it all day and finally have decided to ask for help. Because I get little to no response when typing my problems into google
Just got back from the ****ter and will definitly try doing what you say now. Thank You for the responding!

Its a beautiful site to see! I finally got this running. Thank you Sal1ace!
So everytime i turn my ps3 back on i loose the PS3Jailbreak. And I have to go back into FastBoot Mode and redo it then redo the Terminal App with those codes. Is there no way around this? Do you have to go through all these steps every time you turn the ps3 on?
Im currently trying to put games onto the PS3 and everytime I make a mistake I get a black screen and have to Re-Jailbreak it. Becoming very tedious. Please inform me if anyone knows a work around this.
i finally after a week of trying get to the last point of hacking my ps3 and im stuck when i open up the folders with the stars on my ps3 after fastbooting my phone theres nothing them what do i do
After downgrading my HTC Hero, then rooting it to hack 3 Ps3's I wanted to see what I could do with it.
So I put CyanogenMod 6.0.0 RC1 onto my phone and now when I go back to the Ps3's I Jailbroke to work on them and FTP more games into them, I cant. I cant because my Touch Screen doesnt work when I fastboot zImage.
Can anyone help me? I just loaded my phone up with a lot of apps and re-customised it to the way I like it. I just want to be able start my ps3 jailbreak and not lose all my data on the phone. Any help with get a +Rep / Thanks from me not much I know. But seriously thank you if you can help!

same here (had to unplug battery then busy doing a nand restore)
but im using 2.1 i think and not 2.2?

the psfreedom bit not working?
Ok after nand backup tried again this time worked yea!
ps not the enable_ps flash.zip
the zImage way then terminal!
pps phone seems ok? do you need to do nand restore?
now what do you do with ps3 hacked lol!!!!!!
So I Did The Whole Rom Thing & ENG-SPL for the CDMA Hero Stuff..Also Installed SDk. But When I Try Typing In The Fastboot On Cmd It Says Its Not Recognized Internal Or External Ect....
So Then I Went To The Phone Did This ->
settings>applications>development. plug the phone in to your pc. if you get a popup window saying new device found, point it to the usb drivers in the sdk folder and let it install the drivers.
But Theres No Usb Folder In Sdk...
Why not use the modified recovery image instead? Much easier.
Downside is that you loose ADB and USB Mass storage when in recovery. This works great in your regular ROM though.
Just Because I Really Dont Know What Im Doing..
I Borrowed A Friends Htc Hero To Do This.. So Just Got Introduced To The Whole Rooting Androids.. And All That Stuff.
I Was just trying to go by the tut step by step.
Whats The problem with loosing adb and usb mass storage when in recovery..?
i just wanna hack my system..lol would it really matter in my situation..?
If Not Could You Point Me To The Whole Modified Image Way.?
btw i just found the drivers and it seems like there installed.
now im waiting to type in C:\android-sdk_r07-windows\android-sdk-windows\tools>fastboot boot C:\test\zImage In Cmd But Gotta Wait Till Phone Charges..lol

1. Copy psfreedom.ko to your sdcard
2. Install a terminal emulator from the market
3. Make a Nand Backup just in case.
4. Fastboot the zImage:
CMD
cd\
cd\android\tools
fastboot boot C:\zImage
4 Once it has booted open the terminal emulator
5 type su
6 type cd /sdcard
7 type insmod psfreedom.ko
8 plug in to ps3 power then eject quickly.
9 Have backupmanager on a usb stick.
Copy recovery-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1-psfreedom-1.0-bdvd.img to the root of your sdcard
Boot into your current custom recovery (boot while holding HOME)
Connect your Hero via usb to your pc/mac/whatever, start cmd and type the following:
adb shell
su
mount -a
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1-psfreedom-1.0-bdvd.img
That's it. Boot into recovery every time you need to jailbreak your PS3.
man im sorry i know im probably getting you annoyed by now.
but heres what i did.. i installed sdk. & In eclipse i installed everything under "android sdk and avd manager.also went to preferences and pointed sdk location to where my sdk folder is.
then i go to Start , Run .. Type In Cmd . Then When That Comes Up I Type In adb shell And I Got That Not Recognized Message.
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
Also i Installed The Enable Ps3 Befor It Flashed All Good .. I Lost Touch Screen ANd Everything .. But When I Plug To The Ps3 Power Off , Pwer On Quick Eject... It Just Starts Up As Normal...Takes A Lil Longer But Nothing New under "Game"
I'm going to assume you don't have the Android SDK tools in your path.
Try typing 'cd\android-sdk-windows\tools' then type 'fastboot boot c:\path\to\zImage\zimage' like 'drive:\PathToZimage\zImageFILE'
I did those steps , it flashed ok. But never booted back up... It just hangs on the htc logo
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
Got Past The Htc Logo but now the terminal emulator says i need internet access
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
**** man , finally got everything to work. Backup manager installed but 2 problems. The first folder with a star gives me "an error occurred when stating" something like that.
And ofcourse now my freaking ps3 doesn't wanna suck the disc in.. Not one of them. This happened to me befor so I'm sure it has nothing to do with the hack.but damn. So close. One problem after another

1. Copy psfreedom.ko to your sdcard (From the above downloads)
2. Install a terminal emulator from the market
3 Fastboot the zImage (fastboot boot /path/to/zimage/zImage)

**** man , finally got everything to work. Backup manager installed but 2 problems. The first folder with a star gives me "an error occurred when stating" something like that.
And ofcourse now my freaking ps3 doesn't wanna suck the disc in.. Not one of them. This happened to me befor so I'm sure it has nothing to do with the hack.but damn. So close. One problem after another
