• Remember the iPod video port we told you about a few days ago? Well there is another out on the web, id10terror from PSX-Scene has managed to port PSGroove to the Sansa e200,c200v1 MP3 series and other versions via Rockbox. You can view the step-by-step tutorial below.

    1. Download Rockbox Installer — http://www.rockbox.org/download/
    2. Use installer to install at least the minimal Rockbox installation

Once Rockbox is up and running normally on your Sansa e200:

    3. Extract the attached zip file (DOWNLOAD HERE)  into the root of your Sansa and let it overwrite any newer files.

    4. Disconnect and restart your Sansa.

Once your Sansa is re-booted into the new Rockbox:

    5. Turn off the back Power switch or Disconnect PS3.
    6. Connect the Sansa via USB to your PS3. (make sure it’s the only thing connected)
    7. Turn the Power switch back.
    8. Press the touch sensitive Power Button and then Eject immediately after.

    Notes:
    - To return Sansa to normal, just run the Automatic installer and reinstall Rockbox.
    - These instructions will not work on the e200 RHAPSODY version yet. *Being tested ATM*
    - To access original firmware and USB functionality: Turn on Sansa while holding down the left (or back) button. Then Connect to your PC’s USB.

when people send in news tips do they get credited? just curious and they do work on the e200R you just have to patch and install the boot loader for the e200R then you use his patch and it works

really bummed about not being able to port to Fuze v1

I was pretty ecstatic when I heard about the port to Sansa devices, but every little step counts, and lately, these steps haven't been little, they've been HUGE!

Thanks for all the developers and programmers for putting their time into projects like these!

Kk tested hermes payload, can confirm it working for me. Something must of been wrong with your rockbox. tested 4 games. I used my rockbox that i had on there for awhile and no problems just by replacing the files in .rockbox folder.

GTAIV-Black screen from hermes payload, works perfectly with disc
Resident Evil 5 - Worked perfectly
      Ridge Racer - Worked perfectly
      Red Dead Redemption- Worked perfectly

Rockbox needs to be restarted every time you wanna jailbreak the ps3, leaving it on to hack every time won't work. Hopefully comnpatibility issues with hermes payload will be sorted out eventually so i can use my second ps3 with dead BD.

right, i have found this player:

      http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...at:MP3+Players

it is dirt cheap, and says:

      Package Contents:
      Sansa c200 Series Player
USB 2.0 transfer cable (Universal connector to USB)
      High quality earphones
      Lanyard
      Quick Start Guide
      Stereo headphones

so does that mean this port will work on this device? its called a C240, so it is just worrying me a bit, if it DOES work on this mp3 player then this could be a VERY cheep way of getting PSGroove working!!!!!

sleepwalk: I think it depends on the game... I tried it with Assassins Creed 2 and it did not work. However EverQueensBoss tested it with three other games and it worked perfectly.

Edit: I just noticed i forgot to mention that my version is a complete install of rockbox. Just delete your old .rockbox folder and copy the new one over to your device.

Is there any way to install Backup manager from the actual sansa e260 itself...I have the 80gb model that only has usb ports...the only way I can get the Backup Manager onto a memory stick is if I use a usb port/memory card port that I bought long ago. Am I just getting all this wrong? Or what. I know I jailbroke my ps3 its just a matter of installing backup manager, ect...

I Installed Backup manager ver.1....I placed Katamari in the ps3, then proceeded to try to back this up...well, when hit O to backup it does nothing...am I doing something wrong? On top of that question above, do I need to still have my e260 in? I took it out to install Backup Manager..does it need to be in all the time?...............okay, its backing it up now...I had to deny the second part then it asked again, then I said okay..dont know if its a glitch...or what..sorry for asking so many questions..and thank you everyone for your help.

I just wonder if the rejection is just for this particular port of the hack and could be accomplished on the fuze v1 in some other way.

Or if the reason for its inability to function is simply down to how rockbox is implemented on the fuze v1 and other similar mp3 players

Well, I installed RockBox to my Sansa e250 and its running. I then replaced the .rockbox folder with the one listed here: http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=449

And all I get when starting the ps3 (i have turned the switch off in the back, plugged in the sansa, started the sansa, and then hit power then eject) is an "unknown USB" notification.

How will I know if this worked? Do I hold the power button then hit eject? What's the timing on it?

edit: I guess I just needed better timing. It works great.

I'm having the same issue with Katamari Forever... it seems to flash to backing up to the internal drive, then stops.

Oddly, it tried to backup to my USB key. I may try an external to see if that works.

This happened to me as well. Just try your timing.

      Remember,

Power completely off (unplugged for a Slim, switch to off on a Fat)
      Plug in your Sansa's cable
      Turn on your Sansa
Plug back in your PS3 (or switch on)
Then tap the POWER button, then in quick succession the EJECT button. You should hear 3 Beeps when hitting the Eject button.
After that, under GAME in the XMB, you'll see two new folders.

Strange.... I rebooted and tried the C200 series Hermes payload software posted earlier, and I am backing up Katamari Forever just fine to the internal hard drive now.

So far so good, the Hermes build worked great with my C250. I've got a PS3 Break sitting at the post office to pick up Monday Morning from LightTake, I'll probably eBay it. Rockbox rocks (The C250 had a bad headphone jack, so this is perfect!!)

I'm using Backup Manager v2 (Hermes-compatible) - My son is playing it right now, and it loads the levels a bit quicker (about 40% faster). This is the US version, of course.

So... Hermes build of the C200 Rockbox files to jailbreak the PS3 , and BM2.

At the moment only v1 of both device series are supported

      e200v1 and c200v1 use the PP50XX SOC

      e200v2 and c200v2 use the AMS3525

      from the Rockbox wiki

The term "Sansa AMS" is applied to all Sansas with the AMS AS3525 SoC: namely the Fuze v1, Clip v1, e200 v2, c200 v2, and m200 v4 (m200 with firmware v04.xx.xx) or the AS3525v2 SoC: namely the Fuze v2, Clip v2, and Clip+. "Samsa" is a pet name sometimes applied to the AMS Sansas.

actually as I understand it, there may be a way to use a usb stick to launch the exploit.....but, you must already have a jailbreak device that installed cfw.
So even though it may be possible to use a usb stick, you cant do it without already using a real jailbreak device first.

The only thing you can do with a standard usb stick, is launch payloads from it.

thats what I meant was that a particular payload could be referenced through custom firmware and booted from usb.
But all this would still have to have a real jb device to start with.

Has anyone posted a full walkthrough on how they have created a patch for other devices? There are soooooo many that can run rockbox supported and unsupported.

I have a junk old c200v2 2gb I could care less about and I wanted to load this. Rockbox is available unsupported but I loaded it fine. I don't need full on rockbox functionality. I wanted to load the hermes modified psgroove on it. I am not a programmer but if I knew HOW to port I could port it to my device myself as well as newer future revisions of psgroove.

Any help is very much appreciated. I am the best kind of beta tester too - I could give a crap if I brick the device.

The ClipV1, FuzeV1, c200V2 and e200V2 won't work for the same reason the PSP won't. They use hardware usb address setting.
That's exactly what I needed. I thought it was only because rockbox was considered experimental but it loaded fine for me so I thought it was worth a shot... Guess not.
      Sigh

CrystallizedFox put in another usb stick in the other usb slot with whatever pkg files you want. then go to the install pkgs folder and you should be good to go.

      hey guys
just to confirm that the psgroove doesnt work on the sansa e250 v2? Ive currently got Rockbox loaded/ working on it but the psgroove doesnt. I know it says v2 is not compatible, just wishful thinking cause I have tried but no ciggar. If anyone DOES manage to find a solution can you pls post it. If not I'll just have to find someother piece of hardware to port it to.

      Cheers....

I bought an e260 off ebay for $22 shipped. It says v2 on the back. I think the guy even mentioned it had firmware version 1.x. It didn't even check I immediately grabbed the latest rockbox let it detect my device. Did full install. Used the file named sana_psgroove.rar from id10terror (thanks!). Success.

This sometimes happens with refurbished or repaired e200's/c200's.. Let's say someone cracked their screen or broke the casing on their Sansa, but the internals weren't affected.. The tech probably has a box full of completely non-functional Sansa's just used for parts. Since the casing is the same they'll swap it in to the v2 case and sell it. I used to repair and sell mp3 players in the past and would do this myself. Sandisk even does this when they repair units under warranty.

So, the point of the story is to not trust the case of the Sansa if you are buying used. Make sure you check the version in the settings.

      From the Rockbox wiki:
Look under Settings->Info - if Version has the format 01.xx.xx, the unit is a v1. All other indicators, such as markings on the casing or packaging, are unreliable due to SanDisk's practice of using the same values on different models.

The Clip/Fuze/c200v2/e200v2 are all not supported. A rockbox-psgroove install compiled specifically for another device will not work. I recommend you re-run the Rockbox installer to restore the original rockbox installation.
Try this: turn on your Sansa while holding the Back (or left) button. Once it loads into the original firmware, connect the usb and use the Rockbox installer to reinstall rockbox and it's bootloader.

If this does not work, then look at the Rockbox wiki to recover your device, although it's quite complicated if you have really bricked your device.
