This has to be the funniest port of them all. The PSGroove apparently has been ported to the TI-84+/SE calculators according to brandonlwilson’s twitter.
To quote:
IT WORKS. Pull out your calculators, kids, because the PS3 jailbreak is coming to the 84+/SE! Video, source code, and release coming soon!

12:12 PM
haha soon they will jump onto casio calculators...lol i wonder if this one will need some soldering cos i suck at it but got this badass calculator
09-06-2010
12:18 PM
Ti-83+ doesn't have a USB port so I'd assume it wouldn't work. Dunno if the other port could be used or not.
This is awesome, I never would've expected my calculator could be used to hack my PS3.
09-06-2010
12:20 PM
I want it for the casio fx-9860gII
09-06-2010
12:24 PM
I have a TI-89. It's got a USB port too... So lemme hope it works
09-06-2010
12:25 PM
will this be released today?
09-06-2010
12:25 PM
And I'm waitin' for hours with my Ti ready to go! :D
09-06-2010
12:26 PM
Coldheat, he posted on his twitter, that it wouldn't work with the TI-89. :/ i have one aswell.

12:31 PM
Omg I tought it was a joke
09-06-2010
12:40 PM
@ specht
That is true but you can purchase a USB Connectivity kit for the TI-83+.

I have a TI-84 Silver and since I just sold both my Ipod Touch and PSP, This is the only thing I have besides my Nokia Nuron.. Hope it comes out soon! =)

12:56 PM
God damnit, every time i check back here there's progress on a new port, but never the PSP port which is the one, at least i thought, would be among the first ones to arrive.
09-06-2010
12:58 PM
im just waiting for this to my nokia n86 hhehehe :thefinger:
09-06-2010
01:01 PM
This is great. Actually just found my ti-84+ before reloading the ps3hax page. Now i won't have to go through the hassle of installing custom firmware on my psp and buying a power cable.
JUST RELEASE IT ALREADY
09-06-2010
01:20 PM
at this point, i should be able to print code...ball it up, throw said balled up piece of paper at my ps 3, and push power, eject and just watch my port go. lol. this is a funny port. so much for being unhackable for so long. all of a sudden, its easier to get ur ps3 done than ur 360 jtag'd.
09-06-2010
01:59 PM
I don't want a TI-84... I want a TI-89. Hope that works on it. I don't want to re-buy any calculators, so that's why I'm buying the higher model.

He said on his Twitter that rumor has it that a PSP port may not be possible. The apparent reasoning is that you can't change the device address on it.
Don't know his source or if we can take his word for it but I guess time will tell. Until then I'll be digging out my TI-84+ and scavenging some AAA batteries...
09-06-2010
02:30 PM
does it have to be TI 84 Plus Silver edition, or can it just be TI 84 PLus??

Haha man this is brilliant. I remember when brandon announced on his twitter that he'd be working on it, I wasn't sure if it'd work or not, but such a day has come where the PS3 is now hackable through a TI graphics calculator!
09-06-2010

he will release the app today?

IDK do a quote to your reply so:
@specht yap, I could see that app is finished, maybe with some bugs but works :D

03:51 PM
will this work on a TI-nspire calculator with the ti-84 keypad?
09-06-2010
04:08 PM
just a thought... would this work with an emulator? bc i think i saw one for the psp somewhere...
09-06-2010
04:16 PM
Does anybody know how to install this app on the calculator? Do you need ti connect?
09-06-2010
04:41 PM
i could have sworn i had a calc like that, my brain thought it was a ti 98 (must be 89 casue search brings those up) but im not seeing those and since im not finding it, just the ti disc, i won't know for sure
but this would be awesome using this after all those years
if its one that can.
edit* ok so The disk i have is for a TI-89titanium/voyage 200 so its one of those :P

04:50 PM
do what i do. i am going to wait til everything gets settled down. i'm either going to buy a clone (should be relatively cheap, since ive already got a ck3 and chips for my old xbox's...bout 50 bux). If a port come's out for something i own, then i'll try it. so for now, im headed to encore beach club on the las vegas strip and gonna party down with some of my ****tail waitresses to a couple bottles of vodka and girls in two pieces!
just let it all develop. things are moving incredibly fast after the open source came out. I'm in awe, cuz the 360 didnt go this quick...had to wait a while for new fw's and also jtagging was a pain...mostly cuz of finding a 360 that filled the specs. this is an easy exploit, a fkn calculator can do it????? u should be able to get a clone pretty cheap! nothing like a usb clone u can take to ur friends house with ur hdd and have a good time with a few micro brews!
09-06-2010
05:41 PM
Thank god I learnt advanced mathematics at high school :D Was waiting for this one!
09-06-2010
06:24 PM
@Kamisama: No this won't work with an emulator of the calculator since this needs the USB port and the TI-84+ emus don't send any info over your computers USB port. Either gonna have to buy a clone, a new phone, or this calc if you want it cheaper than PSJailbreak.
09-06-2010
06:37 PM
yay found my ti 89- now it may not work, but i wanted to find it cause they aint cheap :P
now i need to find the usb for it, it doesn't look like a standard micro but i could be wrong
edit* meant mini not micro :P anyways education.ti.com says for my calc the standard usb that comes with the ps3 to charge the controller will work
09-06-2010
06:47 PM
I needed a calculator so since this one can jailbreak the ps3 I'm going to choose the TI-84+ SE. Apparently mine won't come with a USB cable so does anyone know if it is a standard mini USB port or if is some sort of special cable ?
09-06-2010
06:48 PM
my TI 84+ is just sitting right next to me, waiting to be in touch with my ps3. :D
09-06-2010
07:49 PM
@Pihrra education.ti.com should have that info
09-06-2010
07:55 PM
Just a heads up
I saw a ti84 at superpawm for 40 bucks. Wish I woulda got it
09-06-2010
07:59 PM
Arg, I'm going crazy waiting for this to come out. I'm assuming my ti-84+ will work. If not I am headed across the street to target to pickup an SE.
09-06-2010
08:06 PM
@calnorak
Actually I went there and it wasn't clear which of the many cables they sell are used.
Also my english isn't perfect and maybe I just didn't understand the informations correctly.
So please, people who already have the TI 84 plus SE can you tell me what kind of USB port it uses ? (From the website it appears to be either mini-B (which would be great) or mini-A (which I absolutely never heard of before).
I don't know which one it is because they sell both for the TI 84 plus family …
09-06-2010
08:13 PM
EDIT:
On a side note, the atmosphere around all the homebrew websites have really gotten me excited. I don't think I've been this excited since the good ol' days of the psp hacking scene.
09-06-2010
08:22 PM
Thank you so much for the information !
That's what I hoped
I miss the good old PSP days too ! I used to follow the PSP scene very very closely. I hope it'll be the same now with the PS3.
I'm so excited. I don't have the calculator yet (but I ordered it) but I keep checking Brandon Wilson's Twitter account continuously.
09-06-2010
09:05 PM
so this has been released HERE and it seems as though it has not included the ability to play back up games. Is there a way to do this by replacing some files or not? I am not very familiar with this at all.
09-06-2010
09:07 PM
The source is included, I haven't messed with TI Assembly before so I myself cant do it :/
09-06-2010
09:08 PM
The source is included, it may be just a matter of hacking the source code file (descriptor i think was the one that was altered in the PSGroove one) so maybe thats all that has to be altered...I hope so, I mean until other home-brew actually gets ported, thats really the only purpose of it right now is Backup Manager package LOL
09-06-2010
09:12 PM
I see, so we would have to wait for someone with the know-how to release a modified version of the source file then? I was getting really excited to play some back-ups later tonight too. :\
09-06-2010
09:15 PM
SO, what are you saying here??.... Even with this ported with a TI-84, i still cant back ups from an external device?
09-06-2010
09:22 PM
Its Here Guys
http://brandonw.net/ps3jb/
09-06-2010
09:24 PM
09-06-2010
09:25 PM
As of right now, this port does not allow you to play backups. We can wait or we can go ahead and learn how to program. If it is just like PSgroove, then only the descriptor file needs to be changed, but by someone who knows what he is doing.
09-06-2010
09:26 PM
@fandr78 it's not really that you can't it's just the author doesn't want you to.
Just like the original release of PSGroove the ability to run backups is just disabled by the developer.
It shouldn't be too hard to implement … I would have done it if only I knew anything about TI-84 + programming.
But I'm sure someone will do it soon enough !
09-06-2010
09:29 PM
This won't work on the ti-89
copy and pasted from the source webpage of the ti-84 port,
Can this be ported to the TI-89 Titanium?
Theoretically, yes. However, the TI-89 Titanium has a Motorola 68K processor (as opposed to a Zilog Z80), so this application can't work on it (and I don't have the knowledge to code it). The TI-89 Titanium's USB controller is also not understood at all, even less than the TI-84 Plus/Silver Edition.
09-06-2010
09:32 PM
Here is another version, dunno if it works
http://www.sendspace.com/file/3bk88e
09-06-2010
09:43 PM
So I just downloaded brandon wilsons TI-84 port and it works great. I had already installed backup manager via a teensy a couple days ago and I just wanted to let every one know that the TI-84 port works with backup manager. It says on his site that it doesn't, but if it is already installed it will work perfectly.
Thats all for now
09-06-2010
09:59 PM
How do you compile the source code though? The modified one you just found isn't compiled.
09-06-2010
10:02 PM
Put the jailbreak on your calculator.
Download the backup manager here: http://www.ps3-hacks.com/file/84
Put the backup manager pkg onto a flash drive, thumb drive, usb hard drive, etc.
Run the jailbreak.
Plug your usb drive into the ps3.
Once the ps3 boots up, if the jailbreak worked you will have an option under the game menu called install packages.
Select this and install the backup manager package.
Now you can backup games.
IDK if you can play them. I'm backing up a game right now.
09-06-2010
10:03 PM
I was able to modify the sources based on OpenPSJailbreak so it can run the backup manager. Although I can't compile the sources yet.
I'll try to do it as soon as I can (although as I don't have the calculator yet I wont be able to test it myself).
If someone knows how to compile the source files I'd be happy to share my already modified files
(I've done this myself comparing the files between the original PSGroove and OpenPSJailbreak and I'm pretty sure I've done it right)
09-06-2010
10:03 PM
I can confirm this works. =)

Results
1st boot - Works
2nd boot - does not work
3rd boot - Works
Fantastic job!
09-06-2010
10:18 PM
I'm installing the TI SDK on a Windows virtual machine (because the SDK appears to be Windows only) and I hope I'll be able to compile the sources very soon !
Edit : It seems it doesn't run quite good on the virtual machine :-/ I'll continue to try
Edit 2 : I guess I'll have to let people more talented than I am do the job because I can't do it right now. Again, if someone can compile the sources I can send the modified files ...

10:45 PM
Ok,
So I am running 3.15. When I use the exploit, if it loads successfully (I think) the PS3 does not finish the boot. It stays hung on the black screen before it boots. I would rather not update if I don't have to (like having the option to install Linux, should something compel me to). Has anyone else made this work with 3.15? If not, what is the current system menu, and will this work if I update to the newest OS via the online auto option?
Thanks,
RisnDevil
09-06-2010
10:52 PM
It does not work on any firmware except 3.41 ATM. If your going to update, do NOT use the auto update as a new firmware update has been released that patches this.
09-06-2010
10:56 PM
Okay, I got the PS3 to recognize the TI-84 and I even got the backup manager installed but when I run the backup manager it takes me back to the PS3 opening splash screen and returns an error message. I think the error code's 80210007. I have tried multiple times w/ the same message.
09-06-2010
10:57 PM
Ok,
I've never updated any other way. How do I update to 3.41 WITHOUT doing automatically/online?
Thanks,

Alright. I got backup manager to work...BIG problem now. HDMI doesn't work. Only composite/component!!
Does this also plague other ports?

Here is another link to the 3.41 Update:

Just in case the official update page is the new update and the page hasn't been changed.

Thats what was happening to me, you need to make sure your PS3 is updated to 3.41. Check the link I posted above. You can save to USB and manually update ur PS3.

And here is the jailbreak I used for my calculator: http://twitter.com/GNSPS
Also, is the modified TI-84 jailbreak necessary? It seemed to work on the original. However I am unable to actually play backups.

Is it worth mentioning that the ti-84 descriptors.asm is missing "port 6"(device 6); that is in the first patch descriptor.h file for Teensy?

I am noticing a few discrepancies in the way that the ti84 was written. I'm a total newb when it comes to reading code but I'm seeing some type of sequence out of order in the ti 84. n e one care to help me out?
