What a great day today is, tons of exciting news and updates for the very hungry PS3 scene. eiz has released the first PS3 SNES emulator for the PS3!

    To quote:

I got my teensy++ thursday and decided to port snes9x over as a little exercise to play with the cell sdk. It’s pretty rough but it seems to work OK. It will load (uncompressed) ROMs off of /dev_usb000.

Very early port of snes9x to PS3 LV2 OS.

    Things that suck:
    - Lots of snes9x features are not supported yet. No save states, for example. Most of these are really simple to implement.
    - Sound code is rubbish. It more or less works, but you’ll probably hear the occasional skip.
    - Performance isn’t great.
    - UI. Or rather, there isn’t one.
    - So much more.

    [Download SNES9x]
    [VIA (and source)]

Thanks to shadowless for the tip

I wonder why all developers are saying (itigaki is exceptional ) are saying ps3 is hard

      to develop softwares ?

ok im kidding . I heard somewhere in dc-emu forum that in order to run an emulator

at full speed you should have at least 8 times faster hardware , which is why emulation

      on ps3 is possible .

No need to have to compile with this one.

just format your disc but before to do that backup your game date fails in a usb and thats it you can return to a previous frimware , to do this you need to go where it says adjusts then to system adjusts then system restore it will return your console with the original frimware.

There are holes in 3.42, but will not be amended, 3.50 might be hacked again, why? There is nothing put an annoying patch in 3.42, there is nothing new in 3.42 compared to 3.41.

Just so people know, you CAN put the ROM's in a separate folder.

      I have

      Code:
      X:\Snes roms\
and it reads the roms fine.

Embarrassing as it is, I can't seem to get the emulator to detect my ROM's despite my best effort. I see the previous poster said that the ROM's can be in any folder, and I assume he means on the USB stick - does the USB stick have to be renamed or reformatted ?
And to clarify, what is this whole /dev_usb000 ? is it a folder or is it a name I have to format my USB stick as?

      - Confused SNES enthusiast.

You have to have your USB stick with the ROMS on it in the correct USB slot on the front of the PS3.

I have my Maximus AVR in the right hand slot as I face the PS3 and the USB for installing packages in the left hand slot. However, when I FTP'd onto the PS3 I saw that my USB stick with the roms on it was coming up as dev_usb006 not dev_usb000. I swapped them round so that my USB stick with the roms on it was in the right hand slot and it worked first time.

As the detail about the app says, it needs to read roms from dev_usb000.

So just to clarify, the USB with roms (in any folder) has to be in the right hand most USB port, and they have to uncompressed?

So is a standard 7Zip or WinRar OK for the decompression task?

Also make sure your ROMs end .smc and not .smf

      Example.

      Supermario.smf rename to Supermario.smc

is it also possible to compile with snes9x options like better screen rendering? and possibly to set screensize to wide instead of 4:3? (yes i know it will stretch, but i like it better than black bars left and right on my screen)

Full glorious colour here, running in 720p as the browser is easier to read and PS3 can barely handle 1080p anyway. If you have an HDTV try 720p, if you have a SDTV then it will be difficult to fix with out an update to the software.

Having said that, have you checked your cables, TV settings and tried other roms?
Maybe even try to reinstall SNES9x.

How do you get it to run in 720p? mine is stuck at 480p and i know for a fact my TV supports 720, sure would like to minimize those black bars on the sides to as little as possible without a grainy picture

For those who are getting a black&white screen, it could well mean your tv does not support NTSC, which is the American signal in Tv's depending on how old it is. Just an idea for placing roms (not on a usb stick) but rather, in the ps3 itself.

Back in the day when Swap Magic was all the rage, we used to be able to copy files to a part of the ps3's mc0 (PS2 Memory Card) (i think thats what it was..) could we just copy the roms from there and place it in a folder called ROMS? or does it have to be on a USB stick ?
