A few days ago we reported of the TI-84 PSGroove Port, but it did not support the backup manager. Today, Brandon Wilson has released the updated version with PSGroove v1.1 and patched to support PS3 backups.

First try and did it! Just wanted to see if this PSGroove works for myself. However back to this topic.

I can confirm this works with the backup manager. If anyone wants to know.

You are confirming that this version of the PS3JB loads games that are backed up to the internal HD, correct??

i cant get it working. I am using the orig back up manager with the new ti 84 plus jailbreak. I backup a game fine i then insert another game and try to play the back up it loads up to the xmb and just shows the game inserted, i click on that and just plays the game inserted tried with fifa 10 gta iv and codmw2

you do need an original game inside. The whole things a bit flakey in terms of timing issues but it's amazing when it works.

In his info he said he didnt include backup support for legal reasons, so is this patched by someone else so it can play backups. I know you can back up games from the original, is there anyway to back them up from the computer. My flash drive wont allow files over 4gb

AFAIK psgroove doesn't support files over 4GB yet, too. You'll have to wait for an updated version with NTFS support to be able to backup games with files larger than 4GB

OK I put a disc in my ps3 (Fight Night 3)
I put Madden 11 on my USB drive in the "Gamez" folder
I load back up launcher and it shows both games madden and fight night, but when I go to madden I get the following error: Game Eboot.pin is not valid
Maybe I have a bad rip of the game? I guess I will try another game to see if it works.

Not to sound too repetitive but could someone please write a clear post about this:

Did anyone successfully run a backup with this?
Which backup manager did you download?
What game did you use?

I myself tried to use the version downloaded from: "http://twitter.com/brandonlwilson/" and it didn't work. removed the download manager, installed it again and tried to make a backup on my internal HD. Making a backup works, running it doesn't.

If anyone can give a decent answer to what combination works then please let us know.

mate the reason it says ti84 is cause it's for the ti84. You are clearly excited so buy a ti84 lol. I did. There's no point wasting your own time like that. You knew it wasn't supported because if it was, it would have said it was supported.

When you do get a ti84 then you should know that it might take a few attempts to get it running - the exploit depends on timing.

Are original save files not supposed to work with this? I know install data has to be reinstalled from the backup but my backup of Modnation Racers doesn't seem to work with any save files from disc or backup. It says they're corrupt.

I'll try to explain as clear as possible what setup works for me;

- get this PSGroove for your IT 84+ :
-> http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=402

- and get this download manager:
-> http://www.ps3-hacks.com/file/84

- delete the download manager from your PS3
- delete PS3JB from your TI 84+ calc
- place 'PS3JB.8xk' from within the rar on your TI 84+

following steps are for booting up the PSGroove, skip if you already know how
- turn on calc and go to the PS3JB app
- skip splash screen and select option1

- turn off PS3 from the back
- connect TI 84+ to your PS3
- turn on your PS3 from the back but don't tap power yet
- then tap power followed by eject... timing is crucial... be quick

- after a short wile the calc shows "working..."
- if your timing was right then it will say "done" after a few seconds, if your timing was off then you will hear your PS3's start up sound and you'll have to start over again by shutting your PS3 off completely
- once your PS3 is booted, plug in a USB stick/drive with 'manager.pkg' on
- go to 'Install Package Files' in your games menu
- select the Backup Manager to install
- your PS3 is set up now

backing up a game
- run Backup Manager from your games menu
- skip disclaimer
- insert game
- unplug your USB device if needed (if you keep it in BM will backup to your USB device)
Press O to backup and wait till done
Playing a backup
- run Backup Manager from your games menu
- skip disclaimer
- press up/down to select game
- insert any game disk
- press X
- your PS3 should restart and will act as if the backup is in your drive
NOTE
- I tried different games and all seem to work now, however I did turn of parental control completely. At the time I had problems Parental Control was turned on(my son turned it on... still don't know why).
I hope this helps
- JWZ123 suggested that if things still don't work you should try to update your TI 84+ to the latest FW and if it still fails you might try to set your HDMI output from 1080i to 720p

IT WORKED!!!!!! I updated my ti84 + with the most recent firmware 2.53 and what just might be the solution is to change the HDMI output from 1080i to 720p. DrWho198 i read your guide thanks for the reply i also hope others will profit from it. As for the people who still have problems with loading the original disc in the menu,. try switching the video output from 1080i or 720p and update your ti84 to the latst firmware. This is what worked for me

What could be causing this problem?

Thanks ^^

Comfirmed working. I upgraded the TI 84+ to the latest firmware and
that did the trick.

Also was able to load and save games to Internal HD.
However, you have to keep the calculator ON through the whole process,
for loading or saving games to HD.

Did try to load a game without the calculator plugged in and kept getting
an error message.

Overall, good stuff.

@saron

to install package files you need to put the manager.pkg file on any type of FAT32 storage system and plug it in the ps3. THEN open up the install package file folder and you should be able to install the software into the console.
Try reading some useful tutorials or check out the post above by DrWho198 they will guide you correctly.

yes any usb such as the sandisk cruzer should work just download the manager.pkg file and place it in the root of the usb device. Your ps3 system should be able to read the manager.pkg and install it.

This version works fine. Load it to your Calc using the TI Connect software.
Then drop the manager.pkg file onto a usb thumb drive. I used the origional backup manager from the PPSJailbreak site. The "Stealth" Backup manager thats floating around the net is no good.

i knew this would happen ... as soon as it works some kid started asking for links to sites with games

1.)this is to back up your OWN games
2.)from my understanding it will not work anyway unless you do the download from an actual disk

I am having problems playing the back ups. I successfully load 3 games. I pop in a game that I have not backed up, selected a game I have on my internal drive. As soon as it goes to the main menu, I highlight over the cd and the game that is in the system shows up, not the game i selected from the back up menu. Can anyone help me on what I may be doing wrong?

That's normal behaviour. What PSGroove actually does is start up your PS3 in develop mode. Because of this you can run homebrew that is not signed correctly, like the Backup Manager. It is actually made so developers can test there unsigned code during programming.

As soon as you restart your PS3 it exits this mode and you are left with a normal PS3. The Backup Manager stays since it is still on your HDD. However if you try to run it your PS3 still checks if it is signed, which it is not. That's why you'll have to startup your PS3 with PSGroove every time you wish to use Homebrews/Backups.

So, to sum things up; It's normal... it will stay this way unless they find out how to make custom firmware.

@bigmel1:
I'm not completely sure if you found the problem already, but I would check these things:

- Make sure you turn off your PS3 completely at the back or plug it out before you JB it
- Check if your TI 84+ is updated with the newest FW
- Don't press too many times on the eject, I think it sometimes causes it to hang.
- Try turning off your Calc and turning it back on
- Pray to jesus... or any other pop idol you like :P
- sometimes it just hangs... it does with me as well... not often but it does happen.

If you find out your problem then please tell us... it might help others.

Hey,

I just checked out your tutorial. High Five, it's very good. However you do not bring up the possibility of some one using linux, such as me.

For some one using Linux who doesn't know, they would need the program called TiLP. This is a unix os based system communicator that allows us using linux to communicate with our calculators. ~_^

The interface is very similar to the TI interface. There is also a bit of usage of command line, but nothing that's way out there. All that is really done in command line once TiLP is installed is to type at the prompt,

sudo tilp

or just type tilp at the root prompt, but super user privileges are needed.

Cheers

I have done everything right, backed up games successfully, then inserted another game to attempt to play back up, went back to menu screen, highlighted game that I wanted to play (Shows correct game that I selected and not the game in drive) and as soon as it is about to start, it freezes (ps3 background). Sadly, no...
Not yet anyway, its a known issue that large games won't run. It will probably be fixed in the future. It does not have anything to do with the TI84+ port.

The scene is just being born... it will take a little while before everything works flawlessly. There probably will be better Boot Managers soon, since the one we use now is a little simple. You can't even select your destination for making a backup.

I've got my internal harddrive partitioned on the ps3. Can I repartition to one main partition in which I can place my backed up games, or would I need internet connection after making the reinstall so that it would bring me to 3.42 (which I definetely don't want).

Or is it overall better to use external harddrive for my backups as it would be harder to trace that i've jailbroken my ps3?

Thanks for your info, So your solution was to remove everything and install the files as was suggested before. This confirms that it is advised to do this when you have problems.

@Blaster CK3:
I'm not sure about using partitions on PS3, but I can tell you that I would always advice people to use an external HDD and I mean a big one! Because a PS3 game will easily become 30+ gig, so your internal HD will be full in no time. Don't forget that a lot of games install stuff on your internal HD when running them. So you'll need to keep some space for that as well.

On second thought, it might be too soon to get a HD for running backups. After doing some thinking I came to the conclusion that the current software can't be used to store many games on a external hard disk.

Backup Manager is only able to read a Fat32 formatted disk. And you won't be able to format large drives in Fat32. The only 2 options you have for such large drives are ExFat and NTFS. Both systems are not supported and probably will never be. That makes external hard disks pretty useless for now.

They probably will find a solution to this problem. It might be a file system that is specific to PS3 or something but only time can tell.

My advice would be not to invest in stuff too much right now. All could change in a very short time, and it would be a waste of money if you buy something that turns out useless.

Do you have to use the PS3JB app on the calculator each time you boot the system? I did the initial boot with it and jailbroke my ps3 and I installed BM. However, when I rebooted the system and tried to load BM I received the "an error occurred during the start operation (80029519)". I still have the usb with the package plugged in though.

Just want to say ty again to both DrWho198 and adrenaline786 for their helpful and useful guides

I had a similar problem to several posters in this thread (connection to TI-84+/PS3 worked, could install/load BM and backup original games, couldn't switch between an original and backup when loading using BM - would only show the original disk in the drive and not make the "switch"). After removing everything (backed up original games, BM, and TI-84+ v2 file), trying again using their instructions and suggestions, and reloading step by step - that issue was solved! Thanks again for all the help and support!

And to answer attackmonkey's post - yes, you have to hard boot the PS3 (remove power cable or turn off power button on your version) and load the TI-84+ each time you start the PS3. Can remove the calc after it loads though - see adrenaline786's guide for more detailed info.

You can format large external drives in fat32. I did just that to my external 1terrabyte. The software to use is called 'EASEUS Partition Master 6.1.1 home edition.'

It took under a minute to convert it from ntfs. Try it out

Correct.

In fact, according to Microsoft and under some conditions you can have a partition of up to 8GB.

Microsoft will not format fat32 partitions over 137 GB (128 GiB) but that is a program design choice, because they believe such large partitions will lead to bad performance.

But,as Jakker27 said, there are various programs that you can use to create large fat32 partitions.

If you disregard the "slow performance" stated by Microsoft, i would say the biggest problem is file size (instead of partition size). And that's because file size can not be larger than 4GB - this is not a design choice, it's fat32 limitation.

I know about the 4gig file size limit, but as long as they don't use ISO files to backup games, that will probably not be an issue. However I was not aware that the PS3 was able to read such large FAT32 partitions. As I see it, everything we do/use now is temporary anyway. The way we store game backups will likely change in the near future.
