Here is an ancient way to play PS3 games online on lower firmwares. This method does not involve the connection of PSN, but rather via LAN on XlinkKai.

Yeah, yeah, it’s not as perfect as PSN, but at least you can play online before the anticipated release from PSJailbreak for newer firmware support. That if you are desperate enough to get it online as there are only handful of thousand gamers of different consoles online at the same time. I will put the tutorial here anyway since i think there are some who are interested to ‘break’ online.
1. First, you must register an account with XLink at http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/signup.php. You don’t have to fill out all details, only * are important.
2. Then, download XLink Kai which is in http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/downloads.php/ and simply run the installer.
3. Here comes the difficult part, which is forwarding your port. It is quite different depending on the type of your router. By default, its usually goes at 192.168.1.1. You must login and go into the port forwarding section. See how to port forward your router below http://portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/Xlink_Kai/Xlink_Kaiindex.htm

4. Just set protocol to “both” (UDP & TCP) and the port from 30000 to 34522 then save and apply.

5. Now run the Xlink Kai Evolution VII program, if your are running Windows 7 right click -> properties -> run in Windows Xp SP2 and check run as administrator. (Click allow if there is any prompt window about firewall)

6. This time, it should open up a configuration page. Simply entering your username and password from the XLink account you have created before, also check application GUI if it is set into the web GUI. This is optional as it will have an easier navigation.
7. Click the green arrow to login (If your not already logged into XLink), power on your Jailbroken PS3 console and you should get a DNS Error on startup. You don’t have to worry about this as it is normal.
8. Finally, click on the magnify glass with the folder icon below the “?”. If it says “PS2/PS3 is configured successfully” , i must congratulate you as you are now connected to XLink and can host LAN parties.

Borderlands
Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
Call of Duty W@W

Should i sign in with PSN on my PS3?
* As you are probably on Jailbroken mode, no, you don’t need to sign in with your PSN account.

how about you get to work on custom firmwares? Were are your contributions to the scene? I don't know if you know this, but the dev teams do this for FREE. It takes a real idiot to come demand something from someone who's not charging them a cent. It's just plain stupid.

OK..... How the f does this work? Red Dead, someone needs to explain how the hell that works. I mean this sounds great but, can you actually go online in red dead or is it like a game with hacked PS3's only? Can someone clarify this. Because this is a very confusing post and does not actually say you can play online on the normal servers, it says you can play in lobby's, WTF is a lobby? Can some one clarify what exactly this is. Sorry for being ignorant but, can you blaim me?

Nice tutorial. I have been meaning to play some games on Kai I have been so busy flashing new payloads, checking out new back up mangers, and playing single player games I haven't had time. I believe as the scene expands you will see more and more people playing on Xlink.

You can play backup games an original games too, when you log on to xlink kai interface u must go to ps3 - racing games - f1 2010
We are everynight there playing f1 2010, blur, etc
You must not be connected to psn, only lan.
The original Tuto to do this and more explained is on this link, this is in spanish, if u have a problem only send me a private message or post it on this page.

For those asking about Red Dead Redemption, i have played it, it works.
Since this is a LAN emulator, you have to get into the LAN play of RDR, not online.
It's simple, just start a single player game, then press start, go to multiplayer, and choose LAN play, and you don't need to be signed in to play there. Enjoy.
Also, i used Xlink Kai some time ago, it's nice to see someone posted about it on the front page, it's useful for a lot of people that, like me, normally go online to play with some friends (not so great to play with random people as there aren't a lot of players there). And they welcome modded consoles so there is no risk of banning because of that, and it is a legal service.

anybody tried COD4, COD5 or COD6 i know they got lan-support but do the games start now with the new loader and hermes pack?

What's to stop $ony from "joining" a game then but with a program that could detect everyone's MAC addresses? Those who have 2 ps3s probably use the same nickname on both, so $ony might just ban users based on that. Sur eits not proof but $ony have gotten away with a lot more.

09:57 AM
I pointed this out in early september ;-) Good to see it getting some publicity as what it really lacks at the moment are players. I expect that will solve itself with time though as there are likely to be a *lot* of people who've hacked their PS3s wanting to get online.
In answer to the persona asking about sony joining the games - you can't *assume* that because someone is playing on Xlink Kai they're jailbroken. *anyone* can use it. It's essentially a massive VPN that allows the use of systemlink.
See you all on there!

Right guys let me clarify this for everyone ok

YOU CAN PLAY MW1,2 onthis if you select co-op mode
YOU CAN PLAY RDR on this if u select coop
as for people with the ip connection issues, man come on seriously? your not supposed to copy the IP on the picture its just an example if you know your routers IP address put it in your address bar and port forward if not follow the port forward link and it should guide you. the next problem is probably with what IP address to put it you put in your PS3 IP address so it the program you run(server) can find the ps3 and connect it to the online gaming service....
any more problems please dont hestitate to contact me i will be more than happy to help

for people that are saying that there are very little ps3 players on this thing pass the word around so we can start building a community and this way there will always be people online and we will be able to play with others at every second of the day !!!!!!! (unless the servers go down hahahahahahahahahaha)
10-24-2010
10:21 PM
2. even if it were possible, doing that would be assuming everyone on xlink is jailbreaking. even though that's the most likely use of xlink right now, it's entirely possible for a non JB system to go on there.

Nice post and all, i have a question?

Well I can't access my router, i use dorm (collage) wire connection, so basically i am screwed, right?
is there a way to connect the ps3 to my computer without the router like something like ftp or straight trough one cable?..... or it should be through net?
any other way appart from port forwarding? a believe i am not able to do that since i have no acces to the router.....
P.S. Nice post hope scene will develop greater and biger, hate the Sony's Monopoly here!

I've been trying this for ages now and I can't get it to work.
I have a static IP, and I've forwarded the port.
I have a laptop. I've read I need two network cards, is that right?
Where it should say PS2/PS3 configured correctly, I have two MAC addresses, one is red and one is light blue. They both pop up when I turn my PS3 on.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks.

Just shut up and be great-full that someone is taking the time to come up with these hax and managers for you..
If you don't like the backup managers that are out there then take the time to develop one yourself. If you don't have the skills or knowledge to do that then just sit back and accept what you get.
