• PS3 Hacks, PSGroove , 10.10.2010

Today an official update for the original PSGroove has been released. The new payload adds support for retail PKG installs, similar to what Waninkoko did earlier today. However, according to Mathieulh (via Twitter), that was the INCORRECT way to install retail PKG’s hence has updated the PSGroove payload to properly integrate the feature. Do note that there are still certain PKGs that may cause problems while installing, so the offical PSgroove update is a better, and more stable version to allow retail PKG install.

    To quote:

Retail package support was just added to PSGroove GIT
    ! This patch isn’t the same as Waninkoko’s Hermes v3 !

    * Forcing r11 to 1 like Waninkoko did does work but it is not the solution and might bring issues with specific package types.
    * The right patch to be done is to put a nop at the beginning of the debug algo decryption which checks for the model flag to be 1
    * Also Waninkoko left the original PSJailbreak patch which was not proper either:

    ROM:0002ED00 lhz %r9, arg_7A(%sp)
    ROM:0002ED04 xori %r9, %r9, 0×80
    ROM:0002ED08 addi %r9, %r9, -1
    ROM:0002ED0C rldicl %r29, %r9, 1,63
    ROM:0002ED10 b loc_2ED20

    * They force r29 to 1 which does indeed let you install debug packages,
    * But breaks the retail package install because the code will stop at the debug check if r29 is set to 1.
    * The right way is to actually kill that check.
    * That’s what’s been done by doing a nop to the conditional branch.

You can grab the source for the updated PSGroove here via Github.

So, post away the download links to the HEX files and I will keep a list up on the front page (I will also replace Waninkoko’s HEXs compiled earlier today with the PSGroove official ones to prevent any confusion).

yeah, it would be more convenient.

I'm glad I have a Ti-84 though :> It seems to be one of the more popular psgroove devices.

Will this official payload have the backup manager enabled? I wonder...

no, psgroove doesnt support piracy and thats the main thing that backup manager allows so I highly doubt it will be enabled.

What's up with all these U...U..useless apps everyday? either it's a ftp app or a update to version1.0 of something. I haven't installed anything else on my PS3 since september 3rd and that was, well we all know what that was. How about Dreamcast app like was mention or GBA(cant be hard right?) I might as well updated lol missing out on MW2 online. oh and this is great news to whoever know what this app does because I dont lol. It's good to see someone taking time out to do this...yep

noob2009, you are joking, arnt you?

just over 5 weeks goes by, youve had many different managers been released, OBM 1.16 being the best one for me so far, working along side hermes V3, if youve been reading much on the ps3 scene sites, which clearly you have not been, these updates have fixed many issues and games that everyone has experienced at some point id imagine, 2 home brew games, sfo editors, ftp apps, lvl2 modding and custom firmware in the making, all this in 6 weeks ? pretty busy scene i think.

actually do us all a favour, go and install patch 3.50 so you wont hang around here no more and ***** like a 2 year old. stop being so greedy and accept the fact theres a lot going on at this point in time for only 6 weeks.

not to mention a lot of ppl will not be posting anything there making as there is still sony in the background chasing everyone to sue them.

First thing i do when i get up in a morning is check the sites to see whats new on the ps3 scene and guaranteed your getting something new day after day atm. its really exciting that after a 4 year absence of homebrew, etc that we are being rewarded constantly with new material to feed our modding habits

ports for 5g ipod video would be much appreciated and will post links myself if i find them before others. Thank You

Has it really only been 6 weeks? Wowiee XD Yeah, that Noob guy really does sound unappreciative...shame on you!! >_< Slowxe, has a point, you should update, perhaps then you'll realise what amazing things the scene has done.

Sony will never release stuff like this in a million years, it would rather chop off its balls (providing they have any, then allow us to run our own code.) now run along, like a good little noob, and play your online games ¬ ¬

i find it funny you say that! do you not think that a "retail package" is a part of piracy?? this allows retail, not free, add-ons and updates to run on your ps3. that sounds like piracy to me. just funny how people justify one part of piracy but are against another part.

I found out myself how difficult it is to compile with windows. Do the google search I specify below. You will find a link to a thread that is about running ubuntu through a virtual machine on windows to compile the source. It is a lot easier to use this instead of windows, and you don't have to have any previous knowledge of Linux either. If you read all the comments by the thread's author you will know what to do. There are also comments in the thread by myself on how to get the source to compile with the authors setup.

input this in a google search and you will get the info you need

      Ubuntu PS3 JailBreak VirtualBox Image

The author of the thread is Evilsperm. READ THE ENTIRE THREAD! If you still have questions after you have all the necessary files and read through the entire thread, then post back or send me a message. I'll help you out. Really read the thread too. You can miss pertinent information if you just skim the posts. I will give you all the help I can if you need it.

If you prefer to use windows primarily you can have a look at this video on youtube.

YouTube - How to compile psgroove under Windows using WinAVR

I used this method exactly as it said and was able to compile no problem. That was using mathieulh's source code, which does not support backup manager. I could not get hermes's source to compile using this method. I believe there are some things that need to be changed in the makefile.payload similar to what I posted over on Evilsperm's thread. I'm just not sure as of yet. I'll tinker around with it and try to see if I can get it to compile under windows. Once I figure out what needs to be changed I will post some info. For now I would suggest using Evilsperm's method. Good luck.

I can't update my ps3break...the update switch inside does nothing what so ever. Dx I am not sure why, I got the program and I had a 1.3a hex file. The update button just does nothing at all....so I'm screwed in so many words. Unless I can put it on the drive it self? Probably not huh?

is it just me or is anyone else having the following problem. the game loads to the update screen, the update downloads and instead of giving an error it installs, but right after the install the console freezes at a black screen until a hard reboot. whenever you go to load the game it just freezes the console at that black screen again until you hard boot again and delete the game data. im hoping that its just me and im being an idiot but im skeptical. thanks for any info

oh and thanks for the info mariodab...it worked flawlessly

AVROpendous 1.1 Base variant (had to use for Board: "teensy" as the opendous is teensy 1.0 based, like NZHawk it refused to compile if i left it at User.)

patched it per Keytor's method to enable Backups from Disc ( i dont knwo what to edit in descriptor.h for going Discless but strange thing stick an blu-ray movie with this up.. and under video you get "Data Disc")

should work for any AT90USB162 8mhz based boards

id like to know if there is any way this can be installed/ programed/ burned into a usb modem ( you know those used to go to the internet using a gsm card) manufactured by zte, that uses a qualcomm chip?

thats in advance for usefull replys.
