   i tried hd00/vsh/temp/ (there is no temp directory i had to make one)

   does show up when you put it in hd00/vsh/task/
   tht is the proper folder to place in i believe.
   
   the only game i tried was madden 11 (all ea games will get that through this method) , got error message.
   
   edit for old news. this method was not discovered by the psxscene member this is the old way of installing updates when you dont want to update firmware.
   
   if you want to give new news try to tell us the known (but not public) way that people are able to access psn with 3.41.

   How can one get updates if the ps3 is stuck in fw 3.41? Updates can only be downloaded when logged in to PSN. And as of now the only way to do so would be to upgrade to FW 3.50 which would disable the jailbreak hack.

    Incorrect. Games will search for updates when you start them, regardless of PSN connection. If there is an internet connection, and available update, it will tell you this update is available before launching the game. You can choose to have it exit and auto-download, or cancel and run the game without updating. Using a proxy to catch the file links and download them to your PC, you can download the update and then FTP/USB transfer it to the right location once built with the tools and methods mentioned. These updates WILL download without being on PSN as long as you have an internet connection, but they will fail to install properly on a Jailbroken PS3 without this method.
    
    You may also have Eboot.bin issues and need to get the one from the original disk/backup and replace it in the update's directory on the HDD.

    Because Move barely works on any backup, so maybe people are waiting to have some compatibility before investing 100$? Heavy Rain has an 1100+mb patch to bring it up to 2.00 Move Edition, which hasn't worked as of yet. Some of us are hoping to avoid buying the game a second time just because the Move Edition coming out in a week or two has the update on the disc, seeing as the the update is free content.

    As most people have done on here lately, I was assuming that this individual did not want to try it because they didn't want to waste their time if it didn't work. If you've read a lot of the posts on here lately, most people want things tested before they will try it themselves, in fear of losing some of their own time in the process. (We wouldn't want that to happen!) It's completely different if this individual didn't want to pay for the new game, but as I've seen lately with most people this would not be the case. ;p
    
    Edit: And regardless they could still try it if they already have the move controllers or even if they didn't. If they game boots, most likely it will work. All I'm saying is a lot of people are lazy and don't want to waste their own time to find out it doesn't work when they don't mind others wasting their time for them...

    Actually people have been able to get Heavy Rain 2.00 installed previous to this. However, it would freeze and you would have to replace the Eboot.bin off the original disk into the game update folder.
    
    I personally HAVE installed 2.00 with this method, and the game will freeze the system when you attempt to launch it (the stars moving on the XMB will start to fade then FREEZE).
    
    When I replaced the Eboot.bin from the original disc, however, the game starts up with a couple of Playstation Move warning screens (use plenty of space etc) which I believe are standard on these titles, as Resident Evil 5 does it too with it's 1.02 update. The game then runs fine, but the thing is there is nothing noticeable inside any of the menus to suggest Move support is in there properly, and I won't have a Move for a few more months.
    
    Previous to this patch, people replaced the Eboot.bin and said it caused the game to run but as if it weren't updated. Not knowing the full details, I cannot confirm or deny if this is still the case. I can confirm that I saw 2 or 3 Move Warning screens, then the game exactly as before. I went into the options menu to check controls, and it showed the DS3 control scheme. Possibly it boots into Move mode if the Move is connected? It is an 1140+MB patch, so maybe rather than patching it in directly they just rebuilt two separate loading methods, and the updated one launches if Move is connected and then makes calls to the disc for other data it needs?
    
    I do not know, because I do not have a Move to confirm or deny these things. It would seem one DOES need a Move to test this, as just running the game does not confirm or deny it. Thus I would have to ask the same question as the guy before me:

    There is a similar method using 2 playstations and the PS3 download manager which I have been using since before the hermes v3 update. Some games would clearly not start though. the blazblue games for example. I haven't tested whether they will load yet though.

    3d . game heroes locks up when patched with 1.01. Tried reinstalling the game to eliminate the possibility of a bad file.
    Borderlands 1.04 patch does the same thing. It locks the system upon trying to start the game. It does work well without the patch though.

    I have been hearing many people say that by placing a disc in,ill actually play. It's a minor inconvenience, but if it helps to get the game running that's what matters, no?

    The updating of games is nothing new and its got nothing to do with this hermes firmware.
    I've been doing it since DemoInstaller was first released.

    I boot PSGroove through my iPod, so I have to use the rockbox hack posted about a few weeks ago. After some sleuthing, I found one that had Hermes' payload 2.0 supposedly enabled on it. Certainly, it has NoBluRay support.
    
    When I saw the headline that this "now works with Hermes 3" I was a little confused, and decided to try for myself, old Hermes payload be damned.
    Here's what I did.

    Went here and found the update patch I wanted to run. For the sake of the test, I got the Folklore v1.10 patch I'd wanted for a while.
    
    Downloaded Waninkoko's PS3 Demo Manager v1.0 and packaged the PKGs up, placing them in hdd0/vsh/task using Comgenie's awesome filemanager. Rebooted into un-jailbroken mode, there the updates were, under 'Game'. Installed without problem.
    
    I'm not sure how all of you are doing it, but it sounds like you're making an awful lot of work for yourselves.

    If I could, I would...but right now I am using my PS3 to develop jailbreak mods to help more people pay less to sony. I am also tweaking my fan mod to keep more systems running for longer, resulting in fewer dead systems needing replacement.

    I can't seem to get it. Some say the update package library needs to be in the /hdd0/vsh/temp directory and some say in the /hdd0/vsh/task directory...
    
    Which one is right?
    
    In 'temp' I cannot get anything to show in Xmb
    In 'task' I CAN get it to show up but it gives me error 80010006
    
    I have tried with resident evil 5 gold edition 1.01
    
    What am I doing wrong?

    Waninkoko has modified the hermes' payload v3 to allow installation of Demo .pkg through the menu. I've compiled .hex for all boards. That works great.

    Would someone kindly,briefly explain to me why this matters?
    I mean lets take Kill Zone 2 for example,i boot and it requests to update to 1.29 (if my memory serves me correctly?) so i just press 0 to cancel and the game starts.Now i understand the implications if the game is new such as the ones needing 3.42 etc.
    Im just curious to know why there is such an interest if we can just press 0 to cancel and just play the game anyways???
    Do games boot without the update folder?
