An anonymous source has released Exclusively to PSGroove.com a PS1 Emulator for the PS3, here is a quote from the source:
An anonymous source has contacted us with some exciting, exclusive news. He has released a PSX emulator for PS3, entitled PS3SX. The emu is a port of PCSX to the PS3. It runs at full speed, full screen, and supports CDDA and XA audio. This pre-release also features 2 player support, saving, and iso formats *.iso *.bin *.mds *.img.
Currently the source code has not been released, but it will be once the emu is completely ported using just the PSL1GHT SDK. PS3SX will run on all retail 3.41 units (fat and slim). Currently it is untested on older firmwares and does not work on debug units (PS3 Test units).
Instructions: Install PKG file on PS3. Either use the folders from the rar file, or make “bios” “MC” and “psxrom” folders in the root of a USB drive. Download PSX bios file below, and place it in “bios” folder. Place legally owned PSX backup ISO’s in the “psxrom” folder. Run emulator and play!
Please note there is currently a bug with this pre-release. You can only quit the emulator when running a game. If you attempt to exit to XMB at the rom menu, the emulator will freeze.

Ok heres what I have:
Ps3 3.41 fat
Tested wth megaman x4 (iso): got to loading screen and frezze
Tested with megaman x5 (bin): working
the emulator works. Either the version of the game I got or maybe because its in iso format doesn't work. though bin does. these are the only two games I've tested. Also, the emulator does not frezze when you try to exit.

UPDATE..
People getting black screens, try this
when I jailbreak with my left usb port, and use the right port for my usb device I get a black screen.
But when I jailbreak with my right usb port, AND use the right port for my usb device then it works.

I have a few old PS1 discs floating around, this doesn't back them up does it? If not, can a PC create a backup of PS1 games? To be honest, I think I will just leave this one and play from the CD. Nice work but!

So I tried my Final Fantasy 7, FF9 and castlevania.
And they all start, but none can get to gameplay...

Was also getting the black screen. I set it to 480p which is the standard setting and bam..it started working. Hope that also helps for anybody else having issues getting this to go.

Sorry, but no. It doesn't matter how pretty you can make it, it's still piracy unless you are using your own disks. It would be great if you could ADD all those features and play off of legit disks, but when you allow ISOs and other types of backups to be run you are opening up the door to allow "backups" to be played. The more that happens, the more it puts the scene into a bad light. I think it's great that it can be done, but doesn't make right.

Just exists to the XMB before I get to the menu. Am I missing something here? I have the three directories on dev_usb001 and the bios file. Case sensitive maybe?
I am little disappointed I dug through my attic to find MGS and now I am just spinning it around my finger.

I've been able to get to the load screen, but when I try to boot Blood Omen: LoK.bin it freezes. Same with Tecmo's Deception.img.

a ps2 emulator would b better but ps2 emulator for pc has issues so i dont think it will b released soon for ps3.and if u r having problems with this ps1 emulator on ur ps3 itrs cuz u probably have the wrong bios or why dont u just try the pc version 1st?! for those who need the usa bios google "SCPH1001.BIN"

actually its fine. And you disagreeing doesn't change that fact. Im wondering if the ability to play off of disks with all the filters will be supported in the future? On the PC it does, I can play off my discs without ripping them. But I rip them anyway, so I dont have to hunt down my disks if I want to play my old games. (Or I dont have to get them from the room my ps2 is in.)
This is a great advancement, and I for one am grateful. If you dont like it, dont use it.

nice little release.
its a bit unstable, but still works.
havent been able to play many of my games yet.
got ghost in the shell to boot. graphical glitches on title screen and on in game play so as of yet is unplayable. so works perfect but screen has lines diagonally but you can see that it is running normal speed but cannot make out what is on the screen.
any ideas on a fix? how do i get to the menu of the emulator to change settings?

can everyone post what game's work and those that dont, i know its just a pre but it will help them that are struggling to get it running.
r-types = works
r-type delta = no go
soul blade = crashed @ splash
strider 2 = crashed @ first screen had to reinstall as after hard power off just got black screen!!
tiger woods 2000 = worked (bob game)
i'll test some more & update later , lol had to boot up my old tower(usb 1.1) sooo slooooww.... as a few of my ps1 backups are on it & i've no cd drive on my laptop.
anyway,

Thanks bruv! Got it working it's playing tekken fine and raiden with quite a lot of glitches. Tekken is in iso format and raiden project in bin.
In future il use the correct way to report broken links. How do you change bin to iso?

plug in your usb board in the right hand port and jailbreak,
then remove and plug you usb drive in the same port and hey presto should work
also make sue you have a psx bios file in the bios folder

alright...I HAVE THE FIX FOR SOME!!!! sorry for the caps...i was soo excited to get this working...i googled for the bios..NOOOOO...go to the source and they list a download for the bios...i was using SCPH1001.bin but that link game me one that was scph1001.bin...i think the caps were the prob or they are different idk...just like i said go to the source by the download on this thread at the top and get that bios....works like a charm for me now... playing Bushido Blade...works like a charm except for a few minor sound glitches

Great work! tried a few games bit hit and miss but for a preview of what the finished emu's gunna be its awesome! as a note i tried-
tomb raider 2-froze when starting game, intro worked fine
ridge racer 2-worked fine (mine was a rip)
ridge racer type 4-froze when starting to pick a car (intro worked fine)
ive noticed as well that its sort of hit and miss getting the emulator to run sometimes!
cant wait for the more rounded version!

This is great news, the PS1 emulator that comes with the PS3 is not really good, X-files for one has garbled graphix while the PCSX emulator runs it perfectly (on the PC), also this also mean better 'upscaling' support, which the original PS1 emulator also sux at.

i finally got this to work with metal gear solid but now my ps3 just crashes once you play ps3sx freezes the game and now when i try to play a avi my ps3 changed crazy colors and crashed i think i goin to reformat my hdd and reinstall everything....

I have Time Crisis and Point Blank for PSX and cant play them wiv my original G-Con1 cos I don't own a s***ty old tv.
The coolest thing about this emu is the possibility that the devs will add G-Con3 support for classic gun games (just like snes on wii and psx on PC mouse as gun) which would be the most awesome thing to happen ever!

well whenever i start mine it exits to xmb right away (i have bios in the folder on usb000 and i have a game in the correct folder and nothing in MC)
and to the piracy thing yes it does allow piracy but then yet why b*tch at this?
why not get pissy at people playing snes or nes roms if you don't own that then you pirate it and more then likely you don't own them anymore
so whats the difference between this and snes in reality none except for game titles
in the future you will probably be able to play off of discs in the emulator but with nes/snes you will never be able to play off of original cartridge
oh and the ps1 game i'm trying to play yes i downloaded it to play but i do have the disc (which is so scratched it doesn't play) so is that piracy?
and infact if your soooo worried about piracy update your console and then there is no way to pirate things since it's mostly emulators and backup managers for home brew apps right now

Not working at all. Loading the apllication and 3 blinking black screens and quits to xmb.
Using PSJB Clone on PS3 Slim 3.41. All right with folders and files. BIOS used in PC Emulator and working. and the correct usb port on ps3.

well if this helps anyone, the usb0 port is the one way to the right, you can verify this with open manager, make sure you have the right folder and files, (im using ps3break with hermes 4b) clocktower freezes for me, maybe its because its an iso, or its not compatible.

you need a payload with peak/poke, and its the last usb port. and your ps1 bios needs to be named like UPPER--> SCPH1001.bin <--lower

If not working even after changing bios to caps. Jailbreak using the riight port, unplug. Plug in usb into the right port and run Emulator. This works for me, thankyou to whoever posted this before !!

For those having black screen, I realized a way to fix that problem for me, imagine that you have your games on psxrom folder on dev_usb000, you have two or more files for the same game, well... that's the problem. In my case, I had one bin file(~700Mb) and one cue file (~1-5Mb) for the same game, when I deleted the smaller file (cue file) and tested out, it worked.

i found a tool for all you honest linux users , a psx ripping tool.

first you need to jailbreak your ps3 and to use ps3sx its much more simple to use a usb drive Download and put everything on as is, google "SCPH1001.bin" and put it in the bios folder and put your ps1 game's in psxrom.
install the .pkg file on ps3 from the icon in the game section , start ps3sx and enjoy.

This is great! I could never get the PS3 controller working properly with my PC. Drove me nuts.
All my PS1 games were converted for PSP a long time ago, so I am converting a few back to iso and testing them out. Frogger works fine. Megaman Legends freezes at startup.

This...is amazing! I just got back last night from New York, went there for the entire week last week and I come back and see a BUNCH of amazing news, including this. I love it!...I will wait for the updated version though. OH! and question, would it be possible to keep the bios and the iso's and such ON the hdd? Or maybe in a future release? bump ,
i have been messing about with PS3SX.pkg using the multitool i unpacked the .pkg,
I got folders:
EMU/ ps3sx.bin i unpacked to .elf
USRDIR/ EBOOT.BIN i unpacked to EBOOT.ELF
and ICON0PNG , PRAM.SFO
anyway i was thinking about getting rid of the FPS counter via hex editing the emu.elf, i can upload the files if anybody else wants to have a look. and if its ok?
another idea is if its not working on your fw 3.15 , (dont know if it has problems?) i can edit the .sfo and repack. but it is set at fw1.80.
EDIT:
if any hex editing guru's whant to have a look at the files or answer my question
what would i replace Show with " .ShowFPS. " Null or Hide?

it was the old pre-release of ps3sx that i hex edited to remove the fps counter. there was no source to edit and compile .. it did run a few games better than the source thats available now.. but only on 3.41... its good to read..
