• Create Custom PS3 Startup Tune/ Works In Retail Mode As Well

    Are you bored with the standard PS3 bootup sound? Or would like the old one back [pre-3.00fw] Well now you can thanks to Alejandro+ Jaicrab and PS3mrenigma. They have produced an app that allows writing to dev_flash.

    Also thanks to Japsander for the idea of the Epic Tune Of Success, and Comgenie for the manager XD

    And on with the tutorial.

    You’ll need to install

    Dev_flash RW Alejandro

    Comgenie’s File Manager

    XVid4PSP (on the pc obvs)

    [PART ONE]

    To get the R/W dev_flash to work, you’ll need a hex enabled with Peek&Poke. Then fire up the app. You’ll get an message saying “This program enables A Dev_Flash unit with WRITE ACCESS! It is your responsiblity! If you erase the firmware or make it brick its YOUR FAULT!” etc. Press O to enable the rewritable flash. it will go “……. Success” then it will quit, taking you back to the XMB.

    [PART TWO]

    Fire up Comgenie’s Awesome File Manager
    Scroll down to “dev_alejandro/vsh/resource/

    untill you see two files one named: coldboot_multi.ac3 and another called coldboot_stereo.ac3. These two files are what you will need to change, in order to get a custom bootup sound. Dont to anything yet…

    [PART 3]

    Grab any mp3 you want, be it from a game or whatever it doesnt matter. Load up XivD4PSP.

    You will need to trim it to around 8 seconds as it will get cut off. [like in the video] You’ll see Set Start/Set End and apply trim.

    Audio encoding AC3 640K

    Once that is done, and you are happy with your bootup sound, rename it coldboot_multi.ac3 and then the same file as coldboot_stereo.ac3. Save it, by doing Ctrl+S.

    Now, copy the files to a USB stick, you should still be in Comgenie’s Manager.

    Select 0000 (far right usb) and press select for the screen to go red. Then press O to copy the two files over, and replace them. Exit to the XMB.

    Power off your PS3, with or without your JB, and listen to your new Boot Sound.

      But PS1 bootsound would be also cool. ^^

      I wonder if it's possible to get back the PS3 logo and tune when starting a game.

      @gliitch I think its time to start charging for hacks etc you do, so you can get a TV thats worthy of the PS3. That Tv is like having the Hanna Montana platinum... it just should not be done!

      Original PSX startup Edited for 6 channel surround systems and 2.0 stereo
      I edit it with Nero SoundTrax to make it fit with the PS3 logo appearance so you didn't hear any cut or noise before or after it ends.

      its really easy to do and you only need two apps on ps3, one to mod the flash, Dev_flash RW Alejandro
      and
      Comgenie's File Manager to copy the ac3 files from usb to hdd.

      and Xvid4PSP to edit and convert the audio files on pc.

      If anyone here is a Stern fan and has the ability to post the "Can I taste your juice" as the boot sound I would gladly taste your juice, just kidding. If it has to be a certain length that is longer than "Can I taste your juice" just let that chic continue talking for the boot. One of the best sound bites EVER! I want a juice tasting PS3.

      iv been trying all day to get xvid4psp to work and all i get are errors. im trying to convert the dolby digital thx sound for my boot, but had no luck. would be very thinkful if someone could post a fixed boot of this.

      I had never used any of these programs before, and you told me just what to click and what to press, and the whole thing was a breeze!

      My first bootsound is Dr. Light's computer from the opening of Megaman X on SNES. I always liked those particular bleeps.

I'd need a full detailed tutorial on how to do this. If it's as easy as you say it is then it should be even easier to come up with a tutorial for us morons. I've never felt like such a newb in years. Had no problems with hacking my PSP or Wii and I seem to be having all sorts of trouble with Ps3.

      sounds to me like you should stop trying to rush things , take it slow read it twice , google or search anything you get stuck on , its better to learn under your own pace (it sticks). if it helps make notes.

      try the apps listed , do a search and read how to use them, basically help yourself more than you are. i am not doing this for giggles i am helping you by not helping because this really is not that hard, a little bit advanced for some, but still easy when you follow the tutorial.

      the only thing i hacked is a few ps2's and my ps3 , now on my jaybeed ps3 i have a custom boot sound and font.

      so even "us morons" can learn as i did

      on a side note its better to ask for help in a nice manner and not slate/put down people who have worked hard on making programs (for free) because its not easy to setup/get working ... remember we're all learning together even the people making the programs are finding new tricks every day.

      be nice and people will be nice to you.

      Can this work on the 3.55 firmware jailbroken by Geohot?

      Comgenie's File Manager installed fine, but I'm not sure what to do with the Alejandro Flash Writer Enabler, I have a downloaded .pkg, but there's an error on install...

      If anyone can help that would be great.

      nope, sorry. every new fw install brings back original files, so no custom sound on fw 3.55 right now as long as somebody will make the dev writing apps compatible for fw 3.55.

      you can use either. ps3ftp is faster if you want to transfer a lot files.

      but again: custom sound is only on 3.41 possible at the moment. i thought about to replace the sound file directly within the 3.55 pup but thats impossible for me as the pkgs are decrypted and i don't know in which pkg or tar file the sound is "floating around".

      damn, why do the devs of the flash apps don't make it for the cfws? if i could do it i would have done it already. that's the reason why i stay on 3.41.
