Teamhades has updated their version of the PSN store, to include homebrew, here is a quote from the source:

While it might seems to be late move from the PSX Store site, but it’s nice to have a list of downloadable homebrews on a PSN-style website. To download the homebrews, just browse the Utilities tab, and you will see Emulators, Games, Apps and PC folders under it. There you can download some of the famous PS3 homebrews on the net.

P/S: I think the PS3 Internet Browser can also do the browsing but i have no idea how to make it download straight to the “Install Packages Files”.

Below is the full change log they’ve made:

    * Beta v1.0: Right now we just have demos, but cooming soon the new stuff.

    * Beta Version 1.1: Subcategories of videos created . Videos will continue to rise gradually.

    * Beta Version 1.2: Added user registration. It is possible that the registration confirmation email reaches the spam folder.

    * Beta Version 1.3: Login and registration working 100% Modified web addresses are now more “friendly”.

    * Beta Version 1.4: New section “Games and Patches” with the latest patches. Updated this section with 90% of patches for PS3 games.

    * Beta Version 1.5: Add homebrew applications to the Utilities category PS3.

There is no download, just simply visit here http://www.psxstore.com

So, the time came for me to delve deep into dev_flash once again, to see what more i could find…

Well i found out how to change the title names of each application from User to Playstation Network. In doing so i learned that as cool as these mods are, it makes your PS3 EXTREAMLY UNSTABLE!

This is more of a learning curve for me,and it can be for the rest of you guys too : )

To edit the ingame XMB you have to use RCOmage – to decrypt the RCO’s and the use it again to put them back together again. RCOMage, Spits out Images and Text folders.

With NotePad ++ You can then edit the names of the whole XMB top line – edit the English XML file from the Text folder.

I decided to go a little further and this is where i decided enough is enough, for now anyway… if you edit system_plugin it gives you the XML file and
as well as the same folders as before, but with an extra Sounds folder – this is where the System Sounds are stored. which are wavs.

With editing the system_plugin ENGLISH.XML You can change Everything that the system displays. So if you wanted to change i donno say erm “Please Press The PS Button” to say “Push me and then just touch me, until i can get my, Satisfaction, Satisfaction.” You can. Oh, RCOMage doesnt like & characters.

With all that done, it became unstable, also i couldnt see half of the edits, purely because the icons were messed up. Also, it kept crashing constantly, this is what Team Acid are trying to solve, as well add Debug menu’s.

Im sure with a bit more testing, could indeed unlock a few things myself, So
    Watch this space! :D

I’d wish to say thanks to Greg Rasputin for pointing me in the right direction, to see where the changes are. Also, Team Acid for making that small change, which for me, has made a MASSIVE difference in my future modding of the PS3 :D

Chris has informed us that he is creating and expanding on a application to help easily jailbreak or downgrade your PS3. The app currently supports HTC HD2, but he is porting it to various other devices such as: Touch Pro 2, Touch Pro, Diamond, Diamond 2, Tilt 2 and Fuze.

    To quote:

    Hello everyone,

Here is my app i have been working on. It will install all files to your sd card needed to jailbreak and downgrade your ps3 with your HD2.

    What the app does:

This app will allow you to downgrade your firmware to any firmware you want. (PS3 Slim’s cannot go as far back as Fat Consoles.) The downgrade only works with FW’s up to 3.50. (If you have FW3.55 you are out of luck for now. Unfortunately there is no solution on the market nor in the community for that FW version.) This app will also allow you to patch your android build with all the files needed to jailbreak your ps3.(this will be changed real soon.) It also includes many payloads so u can use the one that best matches your needs.

German version Located here I have also translated the first post in German as well. Enjoy

Norwegian version Located here I have also translated the first post in Norwegian as well. Enjoy

    Instructions:
you will need to download both files found below.

    DowngradeUpdater(needed)

PS3DJB Updated to 2.5 – English Only – Now Includes darkstone hd2froyo v3 in a custom folder just for jailbreaking. Size 87.3mb

Important. First run of jailbreak Android will take several minutes as it will need to create a data.img file. After that it will boot much faster.

    Install:

Make sure you have placed your android build of your choice on the root of your sd card before installing. Your android build must be placed in the Android folder.

1.install downgradeupdater.cab to storage card. (this only contains the downgrade folder)
    2. install PS3DJB.cab to storage card. (this contains the main UI and all jailbreak files)(does not include modified 3.41 PUP, lv2diag.self file 1 and lv2diag.self file 2)
    Pre Use:
    1. run app and select backup original android build (must do this first before you run setup jailbreak if you want to keep your original zImage of your Android build.)
    2. select setup jailbreak. This will transfer all the files to your android build. if you replace your android build later on with a newer version just rerun the setup jailbreak.

    Use:

    1. once you set up jailbreak then proceed to select Launch PS3DJB. Follow the jailbreak instructions on the process. There are tons of tuts on how to do so. It is all they same for the most part. What is different for the HD2 is Once you boot into Android go and launch Gscript and select the payload of your choice. Then wait till it starts to auto countdown then plug the phone into the ps3 and start the jailbreak process.
    2. If you want to downgrade your ps3 launch downgrader. This will take you to a mini android build made specifically for downgrading your ps3. This will not affect your other android builds

    Questions and Answers:

    Q) how do I know when everything backed up, restored or setup for jailbreak?
    A) it will complete when the button image snaps back to normal when completed.
    Q) im done downgrading and cant turn off the phone with the power button?
    A) If you run the downgrade portion of the app you will need to pull the battery out when your done and reboot the phone. this is not due to my app it is part of the downgrade setup.
    Q) Where is the Gscript folder located at?
    A) gscript folder installs to the root of your SD card. It should install when you install the PS3DJB.CAB if you do not see it. Reboot your phone. Sometimes it caches till a reboot. not sure if its a OS issue or a Rom issue.
    Q) I started Gscript and only see a couple of payloads. Isnt there more?
    A) if you are missing payloads in gscript listing hit the windows button then select add script. Then finally select load. find a missing script select it and save. it will now populate to your main list in gscript. you will need to add. hermes 3.50 + PSN v4b, CE-X hybrid payload, and 2.76FW payload.
    Q) I have multiple android builds will this mess with them?
    A) Yes and No. It will only mess the the android build located in the Android Folder. If you want to make sure your stock android build stays stock after jailbreaking run the backup original android build button first to back up a copy of your original zImage. Once your done jailbreaking just run restore original android build to restore the backedup zImage.
    Q) Do I need to install the downgradeupdater.Cab if I don’t plan on downgrading?
    A) No you do not. It does not affect anything releated jailbreaking. If you hit the launch downgrader button without it installed will cause the app to display a message about it missing.
    Q) if i downgrade will i loss my game saves? if so how do i keep them?
    A) If you downgrade you may loose your game save. Go to system settings and back up your system. the option is at the bottom of the list almost. you can restore the same way

if you have any suggestion let me know.
    enjoy!

    PAYLOADS included:
    Hermes v4b+355 FW3.41
    CE-X FW3.41
    Hermes FW3.41
    Hermes v4b + psn + 3.50 FW3.41
    PL3 FW2.76
    PL3 FW3.01
    PL3 FW3.10
    PL3 FW3.15
    PL3 FW3.41

    *IMPORTANT*
for downgrading you will need the 3.41 modified pup, lv2diag.self file 1 and lv2diag.self file 2. these are needed once you obtain service mode

*Removed setup Jailbreak, backup and restore buttons.

French site PS3GEN has reported that PS3 Developer Anonymous, is working on a Nintendo DS emulator. Here is an approximate translated quote from the source :

Anonymous, the now famous developer who recently completed emulators PlayStation 1 and Sega Megadrive on PlayStation 3 is back with a new emulator. After a night’s work, he offered us an exclusive alpha version of his emulator Nintendo DS based on DeSmuME.

The emulator is currently in testing phase but we can play 2D games like Yoshi’s Island with good fluidity. Anonymous is working on compatibility and accelerate 3D games as well as the inclusion of sound. It will also add a pointer to use the tactile features games, knowing that for now the L3 button enables a pressure on the screen, which is quite useful when a game requires to support it. Save games are functional and a menu selection opens ROMs when the button R3 is pressed to change the game without having to restart the emulator.

Anonymous wants to improve his first emulator before distributing it. You do not find it on the internet yet. If you want to help financially so he could buy a PlayStation 3 debug to develop more easily, paypal address is: ps3emudev@hotmail.com. Here are some pictures of the emulator in action, we will keep you informed of progress of its work during the day.

According to PSGroove, a project is being worked upon to restore bluray functionality for PS3′s that have lost them, to quote:

As many of you already know, consoles are still being afflicted, with the loss of Blu-Ray playback, after downgrading. Chip makers and others, have claimed to have fixed the problem. However, there truly is no working fix at this time. A team of devs, called Project #PS3Bluray hopes to alleviate the problem with your help.

They are asking anyone with a PS3 to run an app they have developed, which will dump certain files related to Blu-Ray playback. It does not matter if the Blu-Ray problem is affecting your console or not, your files are still needed for analysis. Once analyzed, this should lead to a permanent Blu-Ray playback fix! For those that wish to help, please read on!

Please note that the files submitted for analysis do not contain any personal information or serial numbers and can’t be traced back to you. It is perfectly safe and anonymous.

    Download: ProjectPS3bluray-DRLbackup_v001.zip

Email files (created by app) to: ProjectPS3bluray@gmail.com

One of the most exciting recent developments is the ability to downgrade PS3s to previous firmwares. Unfortunately this has proven to have an unexpected side-effect for certain older (“phat”) PS3s: After downgrading, systems with 256MB of flash RAM (NAND) lose the ability to play Blu-Ray movies. Despite what you may have heard or what has been promised by certain unscrupulous sellers of USB-dongles, there is no fix at this time.

That’s why we have formed Project #PS3bluray and are trying hard to remedy this situation. However, we can’t do it without you. To find a solution, we need your help! We are not asking for any money; all we need are a few short moments of your time. This is your chance to actively contribute and support the community, by helping find a solution!

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:
To solve the Blu-Ray problem, we need a file from inside the PS3′s NAND, specifically the DRL1/2-files located inside dev_flash3. DRL is short for “Drive Revocation List”; these files are reponsible for allowing Blu-Ray video playback.
In order to collect and analyze as many DRL files as possible from PS3s with working and non-working Blu-Ray playback, we have created an easy-to-use utility called DRLbackup, which automatically extracts DRL1/2 and creates a zip archive, which we’d then like you to send to us by email.
Please note that this file does not contain any personal information or serial numbers and can’t be traced back to you. It is perfectly safe and anonymous.

    USAGE:
    1. Start your PS3 in Jailbreak mode
    2. Put DRLbackup.pkg into the root of any FAT32 USB storage device and connect it to your PS3.
    3. Install DRLbackup.pkg (under Game / Install Package Files), then run it from the XMB.
    4. The screen will go black for a few seconds. When DRLbackup is done you will be returned to the XMB.
    5. Verify 3 files were written to the USB drive: Copies of DRL1/DRL2, and a .zip file named like: devflash3_.zip
    6. Send the zip-file to ProjectPS3bluray@gmail.com (keep the copies of DRL1/DRL2 as personal backup).

That’s it, thank you for your time!
If all goes well, this may lead to a way to return Blu-Ray playback capability to all PS3s that have lost it.

    ABOUT:
Project #PS3bluray was formed on efnet by a group of enthusiasts after the Blu-Ray playback problem was discovered, our goal is to find a solution. For serious discussion, join us in our IRC-channel #PS3bluray on efnet.
PS3bluray DRLbackup v0.01 was compiled with PSL1GHT to gather forensic evidence regarding the PS3 Blu-Ray Playback issue.

    Thanks to everyone involved!
Your time and hard work is very much appreciated!

For all the nostalgic fans of the Megadrive/Geneisis you’ll be happy to know that Anyonmus has updated Genesis Plus from beta to 1.0

    Improvements are:

    * A new and better rom menu from Snes9x

    * Added settings for enabling/disabling FPS

    * Stretch screen, pal60

    * Auto detection of the refresh rate

    * Fixed sound

    * Added savestates

    * Shader Filter X2SaI, Hq4x, Super Eagle and many others

I am currently testing it out now, i will give a full review later on.

My review will be split into sections

Audio, Video, Savestates, Saves (hardcoded into game) and overall userbility.

As far as impressions go, this is a damn fine stab at a first proper Sega Emulator.

    Audio:

Its getting there, its slightly jumpy and it skips in parts, but i think it various from set to set.
Ive tested this emulator on both a HDTV and the SDTV. On the SDTV the sound is slow but there are not may jumps and glitches.
Where as on the HDTV the jumps and skips are far more noticable

Also it depends on the types of games you play as well. For instance I was playing Phantasy Star III and the sound was jumpy, when you pressed the PS Button, where as on Sonic 2 i did the same thing and it was pretty much perfect.

I have noticed it also depends on what type of filter you use. It would seem (at least for now) some games can not handle some filters, as they slow down to a crawl Phantasy Star III slows down so much that it is unplayable.

But if you change the filter to say Stock, it works just fine. Perhaps these things is what the developer should look out for.

    Video:
I cant really say much about the video, beside the point i made earlier about the filters slowing down games.

Stretch mode works well, fills the screen up nicely. The scaling is good, although some of the screen gets cut off.

Useablity: Works preety well as you’d think a V1.0 would. It has had substantual improments to the version we saw only days ago. Its pretty much had an overhaul.
Some of the options do not work well, for instance the (PAL60) if you try to use 580 or whatever it is, on a tellie that clearly supports it, it will just quit and go back to the XMB.

The usb stick still needs to be in the USB000 Slot (furthest one to the right.) Also it needs the gensplus folder in the [ROoT] of the usb stick otheriwise it will not start at all.

*I think you maybe able to boot ROMS from the internal drive, as you can use the inbuilt search menu to look for them. This theory is untested atm.*

Savestates: These are implimented now and do work.

Saves however at least from my experience dont work.

Overall i think Anonymous has done a suberb job and I eagerly await his or hers next upcoming releases.

Waninkoko has released an open source version of dev_alejandros Writable Flash application for the ps3. All you have to do is load it up, and it will automatically mount as dev_fflash and it will have a green tick, instead of the previous one where you would have to wait…. then press O to mount it or X to quit.

If the application is already mounted, and you try to mount it again, it will say “dev_fflash COULD NOT BE MOUNTED” with a big red X on it.

Simple to use, just like the last one. If not better.

As the title says it requires a Payload with Peek & Poke Enabled.

    Here is the updated steps:

1: Copy “e3downgrader fix BD beta.bin” into E3 upgrader disk!
2: Insert E3 Card Reader into PS3 Right-Most USB port (near BD drive).
3: Jailbreak PS3 the normal way (power then eject), after few seconds, the console will auto shutdown.
4: Remove E3 Card Reader from PS3, and reset console, it will now enter the Factory/Service mode.
5: Continue with the rest of the normal downgrading steps, using the leaked DGF.rar package.

What is the difference with old original E3downgrader firmware?

After the Power/Eject cycle with the old downgrader firmware, and most of the cloned downgrader firmwares it will continue to allow the PS3 to power-up until the full PS3 XMB menu boots-up, this was the point were the Blu-Ray Movie playback got destroyed.

With our new E3 Downgrader firmware, it cause the PS3 to switch off right away after doing the Factory/Service handshake without booting into the XMB menu, protecting the contents of your flash.

TeaM-ACiD1C has finally released their “CFW”, which is a modified XMB, with the help of JaiCraB & ps3mrenigma’s Mount Alejandro, this can be permanently added to the PS3, here is a quote from the source:

Finally after lots of testing TeaM-ACiD1C are proud to announce the third official release of Acid Customised Firmware .For this 3.41.010 release we have mainly concentrated on enabling some extra debug console options and developing the new Haxx category. This is only the small start of The Acid Custom Firmware WIP project and we have many more plans for the future. We wanted to get this stable version out there for more thorough testing in the wider community. Especially as things have changed since we started this project, The Holy grail for Custom firmware Developers : Just today a new homebrew app was released for PS3 that enables full write access to the dev_flash on PS3′s internal flash memory icon smile PS3 Acid Customised Firmware 3.41.010 By TeaM ACiD1C! Run from USB, or install it directly to your PS3s Flash , you decide! .You can follow the progress of AcidCFW on kbx.org where we will be releasing any new info we discover. Also from time to time we will release our latest stable versions here for download but only when we are happy they are tested enough.

Some of the changes you will notice in Acid CFW 3.41.010:

★ New Haxx Category next to game

★ Check option for all games, PS3saves and gamedata (greyed out – Not working yet)

★ Quick sign Up in Haxx

    ★ Titlestore preview in Haxx

★ Titlestore preview (in game) in Haxx

    ★ Install Packages in Haxx

★ App/home in Game and Haxx

    ★ Performance Bar

    ★ No memory limit

    ★ Quick preview

    ★ Clear Cache

    ★ Owner Information for gamedata

★ Various Icon and text mods – POC

★ SaveData Ps1/2 shows up in JB mode

★ Custom firmware version in System info

    ★ Some other cosmetic differences

We had a few more ideas we are working on and other things like the – No request event error -showing up which we left out for now until we can do more research and testing.

So Now that we have FULL write access to dev_flash with JaiCraB & ps3mrenigma’s new homebrew app – Mount Alejandro this means we can permanently install Acid Customised Firmware (AcidCFW) onto our Ps3s. Of course for those who dont want to permanently mod thier consoles thats fine too, just use JaiCraB’s other tool Firmloader 0.3 to run from USB. So now we have soft-mod solution and a permanently installable way of runnning AcidCFW.

A few important points to note if modifing your dev-flash permanently:

    * Using this new write-enabler tool could put your console at some risk as the firmware is fully writeable.
    * Only you are responsible for your console, Do not attemp to modify your flash if you do not fully accept the risks.
    * It works well if you understand how to use it, if your not sure ask here and myself (DeViL303) or Cfwprophet will help you anyway we can.
    * I have personally tested erasing over half of my firmware (entire vsh folder) and my PS3 and I had no problem in reinstalling Sony FW3.41 through recovery menu so it seems fairly safe.
    * Read the Acid CFW tutorial here before you do anything. http://kbx.org/tutorials/tutorial-instructions-for-running-acidcfw/
    * WARNING : DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL ANY FILES THAT YOU HAVE MODDED YOURSELF ON REAL DEV_FLASH WITHOUT RIGOROUS TESTING FIRST USING FIRMLOADER, THIS WRITE-ENABLER COULD BE A HIGHLY DANGEROUS APP IN THE WRONG HANDS AND COULD BRICK YOUR CONSOLE IF YOU MAKE ANY MISTAKES WHILE COPYING FILES. IF YOU BRICK YOUR CONSOLE YOU CAN BLAME NO-ONE ONLY YOURSELF. APPS LIKE THIS NEW ARE ONLY EXPERIMENTAL AT THIS EARLY STAGE AND MAY NOT BE 100% STABLE ! SERVICE MODE MIGHT SAVE YOU BUT NO GAURUNTEES.
