^^^Bitta history for ya..
This is what the 1st PS3's looked like, they're for developers and have advanced functions/features.
Such as: not having to get Sony to sign their games before testing and burning to Blu-Ray, they just play straight from HDD. You can change region, downgrade.. Many beautiful things! There are Test and Tool PS3's (aswell as Retail ones we all have). Test units are identical to retail PS3's, it's just software (i.e. this 3.41 Debug update) that gives you more options and the coveted "debug settings" menu.
Tool units have different hardware apparently, so unless you can afford one it's of no interest to us. These are mainly for Game developers etc.
I was in the "PS3 Hub" in town (Dublin, Ireland) and they use Test PS3's, not Retail ones! I was trying to browse the "Debug Settings" menu, but they started asking questions (obviously.. :P ) since it's just for Joe Bloggs to try new games + Move etc out but it had "Install Package" and "app_home" or whatev.
