• Downgrade, PS3 Hacks, Rumour , 26.12.2010

    Hi,

It seems Sony has started packaging new slim units that are downgarder resistant
This is what Logic Sunrise states in their article here:
    http://playstation-3.logic-sunrise.c…-ps3-slim.html

    To quote:

Sources said Sony would put on the market in new PS3 Slim version 3.50. These have the special boarding this firmware a new anti-downgrade.

Indeed, some new PS3 buyers who intended to spend at or below 3.41 with the downgrade have been unpleasantly surprised to discover that this was not possible.

There is currently no way of knowing where these consoles have been shipped, or even to know in advance if the PS3 sold currently are protected or not.

The only advice we can give you is to check the serial number of the consoles. Tested all the consoles and downgraded included the notion CECH, so logically consoles should have unprotected 25xx-CECH CECH pushing the maximum-251x.

Again, this new version of PS3 Slim is a rumor, but enough for this LS you about it.

well it was always going to happen but i doubt its a new model, just preinstalled with a fw with downgrade methods revoked.

I believe that Sony making such changes are only going to drive the community to act harder and faster. Silly Sony!

This seems strange. If they were to go to the lengths to ship a console with a firmware that revokes the downgrade, (a downgrade that was revoked in 3.55) and they had the 3.55 firmware out, why didnt they just install the 3.55 firmware instead?? Doesnt make sense to me. They have 3.55 made, and distributed. They are updating the ps3 anyway. We will have to see what truths are here.

Here in the philippines ive encountered this units 3.50 when you downgrade the unit..instead the usb with downgrading files flashes"the power button of ps3 keeps on blinking that cues the unit you bought is not downgradable..when you shut it down you to boot lv2 file for you to restore the unit...i was wondering it takes that long to discover it here..when i already encountered it 2weeks ago...can any of the company of the producers of the jb tools bybass it?

I can verify that this is true... I just got a new ps3 slim last week pre-loaded with firmware 3.50. I then tried to downgrade the firmware and everything worked up until the point of the actual down grade when the machine was reading off the USB key (read for a little and then the green light flashes forever). This put the ps3 in a semi-brick state. You can however restore it back to 3.5 by replacing the 3.41 firmware on the USB key with the 3.50 version and just plugging in the USB key again (it'll restore itself back to normal). You still have to kick it out of factory service mode after that.

Anyone remember the "un-hackable" motherboards that came with PSP's? So do I.

      @ gambit
      @ lightflux

Im not sure if thats enough to say is a new wave of ps3 because the same thing happens to my launch 60 gb fat ps3 if I try to downgrade past 2.60. I can downgrade fine in any other firmware after that so it could just be the tools that your using. Im using a ti 84 right now n order an avr board to see if I can go even lower.

[sarcastic mode on]I hope LS has a video of proof just like with the X3Max 3.50 JB? [sarcastic mode off]

      There are 2 options:
      1. Sony changed something about the FW of these consoles
      2. Sony changed something in the hardware of these consoles (USB?)

      My guess is option 2

But i was under the impression that the units that retail with 3.50 couldn't be downgraded, in psx-scene there are various reports of people buying 3.50 machines, and finding that they can't downgrade them.

Did Sony finally blow an e-fuse..? Would make sense that the Jig still works until it tries to load the lower firmware, just like it does for "tony4201" on his still downgradable machine (although I can go to 2.10 on a CECHJ). It might not go lower for that e-fuse reason or maybe they revoked something..

      Just thinking aloud here!

interesting, but im not sure what gambit and lightflux said is true, because i encountered the green light blinking on mine, others had this problem, which worked for me (thanks norain) by downgrading to 3.15,

      http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php...#axzz19FPIlP8j

and as SaveU said, why didnt they just install the 3.55 firmware instead??,

From what I've gathered I thought the only way to downgrade was if said console had the previous fw you wanted to downgrade to at one point in time If you go to a store and get a brand new ps3 with 3.50 it would not be able to downgrade b/c you've never had a previous fw on that console. You can't downgrade something you've never had in the first place!

Confirmed not as rumor. Yesterday i couldnt downgrade a 160GB PS3 friend of mine. It gives me infinite blinking green led (approx 30 minutes). After restoring using 3.50 FW, the units can boot again.

Did some one tried to change the hard drive and then install the 3.50 firmware from USB hdd?
      It suppose to help...
If it's not working I think it's hardware change...

I think it is not a hardware security thing.
My other ps3 will not futher down than 3.41

so i think the new ps3 is limited to 3.50
and will not go to earlyer firmware.

i have a CECH-2504B GT5 bundle with 3.42 updated to 3.50 and downgraded 3.41 no problem but i changed the HDD and the the slim want install the 3.41 again i tryed install the 3.41 with externel hdd with stick and bluray not works it starts and on 40% it stop and can't find the pup. GT5 has an 3.50 on the disk it install with out problems. I think it has some problems if the 3.41 is never been orginal installed on the console.

I heard there is new method for this you should downgrade to 3.15 debug firmware first then update to 3.15 retail and then you can update to 3.41retail and there you go ))

      1) u cant update from debug 3.15 to 3.15 retail
      2) this is not the place to talk about best way to down grade use the search button and find the proper page to talk about the best way to downgrde and u get your .
      3) keep to the topic of this page
      4) if there was a way to jailbreak any firmmware other than 3.41 it would be front headline page on the site . not on some 100% fake website trying to act like there the real jailbreak team .

I believe that the 3.41 FW used isn't the best. I was having the "Blinking green" issue with a FAT PS3 and all I did was to use 3.21 to downgrade it instead of 3.41.. For Slims, I think it would be nicer if you guys tried to use a different version going from 3.50 to 3.30 I guess. The 3.41'CFW' isn't known for it's compatibility.

What you said, although people reporting the downgrade not working, did try a lot of firmware versions, even debug ones.
