It is now confirmed that downgrading your PS3 disables BD playback.
News was just released by garyopa @ psx scene.
I have 100% confirmed downgrading your PS3 console, kills Blu-Ray Playback!Possible solution are coming up. It may be possible to use others backed up /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3. Replacing it using FTP. More information coming soon.

I have previously tried everything, upgrading, downgrading, using normal pup files, modded pup files, older ones, new ones, but NOPE, the only way I was able to start watching movies again was overwriting those files from my very lucky backup I had of my previous Jailbroken v3.41 /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 file contents.
We need more input, in the meantime:
IF YOU WISH TO SAVE YOUR BLU-RAY PLAYBACK!

Wow this sux all excited about the downgrade done that no problem thanks devs . Now blu ray wont work . Its like 1 step forward 2 steps back ! We need a fix people cmmmooonnn any1 got the answer ???

Not for me, I have downgraded my 3.50 to 3.41 with at90USB162 16Mhz hex and files keeped from Ps3Yes! website. All is ok for me, BD movies works fine...

TBH this has been discussed for hours elsewhere and this does not disable everybodies BD capability, if you check the forums you will see that it is mainly affecting NTSC consoles using various jb devices, as far as i am aware if you have a back up of your dev_flash 2 & dev_flash 3 you can replace the ones after the downgrade and it fixes the issue or if you haven't got a bcak up of these then proceed to downgrade further to a lower firmware non modified PUP (3.21 for example) and then upgrade to the non modified 3.41 PUP and this also fixes the issue. I cannot confirm this as i don't need to downgrade but I believe this to be the case.
You won't find many people with a UK PAL slim having this complaint.

Yes, THX for the Tip. I still had a backup of my ps3 running 3.41 so now i was at 3.50 and i downgraded to 3.41 and i putted my dev flashes back an no PROBLEMO!!! :aetsch:

I could not even play a dvd on my 250gb slim until I upgraded to 3.50 and then downgraded to 3.41, have not had a chance to try BR yet, will try and post back with results.

Although it did work for me and yes I'm on a NTSC-U slim console not all of us got affected. However since there's so many different downgrader pup files floating around and lv2.self files that it could be mixture of different things that could've gone wrong (the payload, JB stick or dev boards and or files).
However I got lucky and I'm just posting what I did exactly but that doesn't mean that it is 100% safe and I plead with extreme caution if you're going to try this on any NTSC console. PAL however from reports are less likely (from what I've seen posted) to have problems but I still advise to wait until the dust settles or someone finds the solutions to get it back working.
This is what I wrote on PSX-Scene
Machine: PS3 Slim Move bundle came originally with 3.40fw
Region: NTSC U
Dongle used: Teensy 2.0++
Hex: Official Evilsperm
original Fw: 3.40 -> 3.41->3.42->3.50
downgraded to: 3.41
what pup file: DGF from sendspace
Blu ray player work for films: Yes

My current PS3 that never passed 3.41fw although I did put a different hard drive in (and had to reinstall fw) did not have any files in dev_flash3 folder.
The downgraded PS3 at the moment is going through a system transfer utility so I can't grab that at the moment.

Also I honestly think the files that is needed for the BR playback is stored in the VSH folder as that's where most important basic files for the OS is stored. However I think each model is co-dependent and may not be switchable from phat to slim or certain phat model to a major/minor revision of phat model like BC to non BC or semi BC,ect.

How to fix BR on your ps3
For people having some problem to read bd movies after downgrade, someone on Gxmod have found how to enabled it. you need to add this files:
- divx on \drm
- 2files on vsh\bdplayer\
- all \widget

all this jailbreaking aint worth doing cuz 1st u cant go online 2nd some games dont boot 3rd u have to do the whole jailbreak process for every time u turn on console 4th u have to buy hardware in order to jailbreak ur ps3 5th u have to use update finder to update games 6th u r running the risk of getin banned 7th u have to wait for an update on ur ps jailbreak device. why dont u just people get a modded xbox 360 that all (backups) games r bootable plus its cheaper?!

2. some games dont boot, but many games playable. (afaik, some new games on x360 need to update your console)

I've upgraded to 3.42 then downgraded to 3.41 just for testing purpose, after read this news, i had testing the BD playback, and it wont work. So i replace the new files with my backed-up files like jackieboy8 told. And it's work.

Couple questions for the aurthor and others. When you upgraded to 3.50 was it through usb, PSN, or game?
I ask as many people have reported no BD playback on 3.50. But no answer was given as to the previous mentioned question. If we can narrow down the source of the upgrade to 3.50 we may be able to figure out why some people have this issue when downgrading and others do not.

I took the ps3 hard drive After downgrade put it into my docking station/ case/ laptop format in with no partition, installed the retail 4.1 firmware on the blank hard drive and it's working like a charm, this was my easiest way to know it works 100%.
