A while back, you may remember PS3HaX gliitch brought you the custom boot up sounds for the PS3, he tried for quite a while to get a custom boot video, a PS3HaX member by the name of ihatecompvir managed to do this, but only in SD, recently eustolio a member of a Spanish scene forum(scenespain.net), has managed to successfully get it running in HD and SD and has wrote quite an impressive tutorial, here is a quote from the creator along with his tutorial:
This tutorial covers how to edit the boot coldboot.raf (PS3 logo).
Although the original idea of this, the user is in the forums ihatecompvir psxscene, I allow myself to expand with more info graphic.
The same will be old-fashioned and addressed to all users, fully explained on the basis of images, “A tuti plenipotentiaries” masters.
In principle the process is a bit tedious, but considering that there is still no
application that simplifies the work at the moment is the only option to put our own stamp
start to our machines, but the effort will be worthwhile. As I say, I will try on
Coldboot.raf edition, not the melody Coldboot.ac3 is coming but is also
customizable as most already know, so we are going beyond win.
Deputy Coldboot.raf: Obviously we need the original, and can copy from: hdd0/vsh/resource via ftp or similar.
Hex Editor: I have used Winhex.
Simplyzip – Download: Executable that will be used to unpack / pack the raf.
dds2gtf.exe gtf2dds.exe & INFO: These two applications are within the PS3 SDK, local/cell/host-win32/bin
P3textractor: This exe is in the same directory / bin, although the network is easy to find.
Photoshop + Nvidia DDS plugin or with opciones.DDS editor.
Part I – Opening Package
The first thing you do is open the. raf with the hex editor, since the idea is to remove the first 16 bits and so
leave at the beginning of the header block for post-zlib can unpack. raf
Done this we will save by ejplo as coldboot_edit.raf
It’s time to run Symplizip.
Go to the option: Pogram external / zlib (packing / unpacking) and seek coldboot_edit.raf, we emphasize the
option “Decompras” and execute it, as you will see we have the raf unpacked ready for the next step.
Taking desempakado the raf, what we do now is to extract its contents for later editing. It must be emphasized
this step we’ll do p3textractor, since the structure. raf is the same or similar to a theme.p3t thus not
have problems in this sense, love of any detail that will detail later.
Knowing this, and to take things with a meridian order, proceed to rename coldboot_edit to coldboot_unpacked and
led to the same location that p3textractor.exe, which in my case would be C: bin. The next step would be to open an MS-DOS window:
Start / Run / cmd. Now just a matter of calling p3textractor and run.
As you see in the image and have the content removed, and that while most-two errors, that is normal,
being the point where just the 1 phase of the tutorial to get into the 2 nd, which is the image editing.
Part II – Customizing
As I say, it’s time to “get their hands” to the chart I picture editing and renaming it the result begin
the previous extraction, specifically. gtf for later conversion to. dds format recognized by several publishers.
Assuming that you have the necessary tools and dds2gtf.exe gtf2dds.exe is time to make the conversion
not before the extension _1.gim delete all GTF.
We return to MS-DOS and run:
gtf2dds -v new_logo.gtf new_logo_footer.gtf new_logo_blur.gtf new_logo_sd new_logo_footer_sd.gtf new_logo_blur_sd.gtf
You can see that three are for HD and SD quality remaining, these are the resolutions:
HD: 700px 350px
SD: 240px 120px
At this point it is time to create our own logo, and in my case I will do it with Photoshop CS5.
Before proceeding and for those who possess Photoshop, you can find the plugin. DDS Nvidia this link:
Ok, run the editor and begin to create, given that and as I mentioned earlier
will respect the original resolutions to not have any problem when compiling. Remember:
new_logo.dds: 700px 350px
new_logo_footer.dds: 750px 350px
new_logo_blur.dds: 750px 350
new_logo_sd.dds: 240px 120px
new_logo_footer_sd.dds 240px 120px
new_logo_blur_sd: 240px 120px
To go shortening and assuming you’ve already created the image, to save time. DDS and the subwindow to leave
we must note the option 8 bbp Luminance and Grey Scale Image Options; The other options do not touch them.
So we get the “weight”of the image precisely to avoid problemas.El toc should never exceed that of original images.
It is emphasized that the logo you want to do must always be in B / N, never in color.
For those of you with problems with the “blur” or blur, simply use the filter:
Filter / Blur / Gaussian blur
Ok, once designed the new logo and have satisfied all the above described, it is time to redo
conversion to. GTF our custom images. So we go to MS-DOS and run dds2gtf.exe:
dds2gtf -v new_logo.dds new_logo_footer.dds new_logo_blur.dds new_logo_sd.dds new_logo_footer_sd.dds new_logo_blur_sd.dds
In this tutorial we will compile manually. hexdecimal raf with the editor.
Ok first thing is to reopen coldboot_unpacked with WinHex (my case) and it’s time to go copying and overwriting
gtf our custom images taking into account that is offset each. Here you have to avoid the more tedious:: Ð
NEW_LOGO: 00006736 to 00493376 (486 640)
NEW_LOGO_FOOTER: 00493392 to 00980032 (486 640)
NEW_LOGO_BLUR: 00980048 to 01466688 (486 640)
NEW_LOGO_SD: 01466704 to 01523776 (00057072)
NEW_LOGO_SD_FOOTER: 01523792 to 01580864 (00057072)
NEW_LOGO_BLUR: 01580880 to 01637952 (00077072)
First and as ejplo, let’s change the image new_logo.gtf that we have worked for us original.
We run our hex editor and open and new_logo.gtf coldboot_unpacked
Ok, we already have two tabs open, and will new_logo that interests us, we click the right button
to copy the entire block from the first until the last bit (Home Block / End of block) in normal mode.
Now change the tab to search coldbbot_unpaqued.raf, the location of new_logo.gtf, which as
you can see in the above table from the offset is 00006736 – the 00493376; Always Decimal [reojillo]
Knowing this will do the same as in the previous step, marked the beginning of Block and its end (right click)
that will be where we will copy our new_logo.gtf, overwriting naturally; Clipboard / Write
Ok, at this point if all went well, and we would have our first image embedded in the raf, which
would be the time to follow the following procedure, so up to 6. gtf. Patience bro …. : p
Part IV – Packaging
Once embedded all gtf, s, is the time to compile again. RAF retracing the path of Part 1.
That is, now is a matter of packaging it for return to its initial state.
Symplyzip execute and click on: Pogram external / ZLIB (package-unpack) and seek our
coldboot_unpacker to choose this time the option “Compress”, which will generate a. ZLP
Now run the hex editor again, taking back Coldboot.raf (ORIGINAL) and. ZLP generated.
That is now a question of our coldboot.zlp incustrar the original raf, and to do the same procedure as in
previous point, we copy the entire block. ZLP and overwrite from the Offset (Home) 00,000,008 to (final) 00051440.
Here and save as coldboot.raf embedded and ready to bake. : p
And I do not leave me anything, so we are left with the point of “tasting”, and we must copy it to:
Flash Writer dev_hdd0/vsh/resource from Alexander Enabler or
any similar application and the help of some ftp or file manager.
Restart the machine and ready That was my case and this is the result.
Any correction or assistance on any executable that streamlines the process will be well received. Greetings

Spanish hacker JaicraB has released a patched LV2Diag.elf today. The signicance of this patched LV2Diag.elf is that it no longer looks for the Blu Ray drive on your PS3, so when downgrading/upgrading the PS3 firmware we no longer loose the BluRay playback functionality. It also allows those of you with a broken/missing BluRay drive to upgrade/downgrade your console firmware as well. Do NOT use this on firmware v3.56, it has known to cause many problems and get your PS3 stuck in service mode!
To quote:PS3 Update without reader
I modified the Lv2diag.self with the sole purpose of being able to put an UPDATE without having to rely on the reader.
It is one more step to take advantage of flaws in the PS3 controller BD.
The change is based on skip two steps in the upgrade process.
“BD FIRMWARE” and “Bul-ray Disc Player Revoke list.”
Whose patches are:Code:
offset 0x3CF0 = 0x419E0044 offset 0x3C50 = 0x48000034
This allows you to skip the two functions related to the BD-Drive.
Avoid the error and let the system continue to update.
Still not solved the problem without running Hombrews reader.
I hope a solution comes soon.
Yet the purpose of this is not piracy, but a step to the console without reader SCENE.
Activate Service Mode.
Copy the root of the USB Lv2diag.self entered.
Copy the root file update PS3UPDAT.PUP desired.
Turn on the PS3 with the USB port inserted in 0 (the closest to the reader.)
Wait until it turns off.
Copy the STEP2 Lv2diag.self (not provided for me).
Insert the USB port 0.
Turn and go off within seconds.
Needless to say, but just in case.
It is your responsibility. Compatibility is the same as the original Lv2diag.self.
Lv2diag is a dangerous tool, to inform it.
Psmaniaco Thanks for testing it!

As many of you may know there are these 2 guys posting all over twitter and nextgenupdate.com about a 3.56 cfw. Well I asked to be a tester and was chosen rather quickly. I was amongst the first three people to be sent the firmware via email. Well instead of running off and flashing like they expected I decided to compare OFW 3.56 and his CFW 3.56. The only difference between the two was the fact the version.text was changed. All files were identical to that of the 3.56 OFW. They claim to be doing a full scale release today. If you look this is what the xmb will say when the update is found.
Also they are now claiming I was not a tester but to prove otherwise here is a copy of the email recieved:
To the testers of this firmware,
thank you for expressing your interest and risking an entire console for the good of others!
Here are some things to know:
if you do not know how to install an update on a ps3 via storage media, BACK OUT NOW.
YOU MUST BE ON 3.55 OR LOWER TO INSTALL THIS. I know. It blows. But that is the way it is.
Please do not leak this file or password to download.
You are ASKED to report any problems back to me and provide me your console’s serial number located on the white stick beginning with “CECH”
The faster this is completed, the faster the release comes out.
WHILE WE HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS, BRICKING IS A POSSIBILITY!!!
MANY HOMEBREW APPLICATIONS HAVE NOT BEEN SIGNED FOR 3.56, ALTHOUGH THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THEY MIGHT INSTALL CORRECTLY.
PSN DOES WORK, BUT IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU DO NOT LOG IN TO PSN WITH THE CFW INSTALLED!
The PASSWORD TO DOWNLOAD: trgd47
This was not in anyway a 3.56 cfw. If you download it and install it then you will be welcomed back into the world of ofw. Many of us knew they were fakes, but I have confirmed it. I am still safely on 3.55 and you have been warned.
Posted by PS3Hax Member News , on 30/01/2011 , @ 11:53amLooks like Dean is setting up to release v1.15.00 with much more improvements since this v1.14.02 update is an release candidate. This update improves upon disc and disc-less support. Thanks Dean!
It is required that you have a Blu-ray Disk in the drive at all times if you can, disk-less compatibility can vary! Make sure you restart your system anytime an Lv2 Application has been used (GAIA/Lv2 V6) before starting multiMAN v1.14.0+
* multiMAN v1.14.0 is a stand-alone installation, no prior installs required. If you have never installed multiMAN, use the v1.14.00 Mega Pack to get all the extra’s (covers & themes) installed, otherwise use the base package, then install v1.14.02 over v1.14.00.
*If you have v1.14.01 installed, just install v1.14.02 over that. No delete required.
* multiMAN v1.14.0+ should not require you to run Lv2 v/any! Do not run before multiman! You should only need Lv2 for Fix Permissions. I would restart the system after running Lv2.
* Delete prior versions before installing v1.14.00.

jjolano has releaesd a new app known as OpenPs3FTP v1.1. It is pretty much similar to blackb0x, but its open source so for anyone wanting to add some sweet additions to this FTP server go for it
From the readme:
This is my first program in C (I’m new to C, but I have coded in other languages), and also my first homebrew.
Default username: root
Default password: openbox
Credit to PSL1GHT, geohot, and stoneMcClane for tools and code
Suggestions and/or fixes are welcome.

PS3 firmware 3.56 has been released, it is highly advised to NOT update at this time until we get our hands sticky and find out what new has been added. The “word on the street” is that this new firmware breaks 3.50 homebrew – but nothing is 100% confirmed yet. If you do feel daring to update feel free to do so and post your results.
Stay tuned for updates as they roll in.
The DNS bypass trick still works – probably going to be patched soon (126.96.36.199).
PS3Hax member Mortonx has made a simple video tutorial on how to get on PSN via DNS bypass:
Confirmed: PS3 3.56 currently kills homebrew – installing over with current existing CFW’s does NOT work.
According to PSX-Scene the new update contains a new .SELF with an unknown KEY and all homebrew tools will have to be updated in order to restore their functionality. You can also read a log of what a few devs are thinking of v3.56 HERE.
Good ole’ KaKaRoToKS is hard at work in cracking the new firmware, updates from his Twitter:
isoldr keys are now pushed too.
lv1 and lv2 keys are now pushed to my ps3keys repo.. more coming : http://github.com/kakaroto/ps3keys
pup from ps3utils and puppack/pupunpack from ps3tools in github.com/kakaroto can now pack/unpack 3.56 correctly.
KaKaRoToKS has cracked it and gotten the keys for the new firmware 3.56 in a matter of hours
btw, it’s easy to find the new keys.. I might write a script for that.. in the meantime: ps3utils/selfdiff 355/*/*/lv1ldr 356/*/*/lv1ldr
Just got home, found the application keys while on the bus, now also pushed to github.com/kakaroto/ps3keys enjoy!
Stay tuned at PS3Hax for the fasted updates on the new firmware.

Waninkoko has released version two of his custom firmware, here is a translated quote from the source:
This CFW is installed directly into the NAND has been tested in different models of console (FAT and Slim, reported in the main post) and without any brickeo or similar problem.
The testers have reported a high stability in the CFW and the same compatibility with games that could be obtained with different dongles.
The main core of the payload is based on Hermes, also has some features of PL3 and supplementary code and improved by Waninkoko.
Attempted to create an application that enable / disable the payload, so that after leaving a manager backup Blu-ray was functional. After some testing has not been able to be operational, it would be desirable for the various backups managers were in charge of implementing such functionality or may be added in a later CFW.
A quote from the Read Me:
This custom firmware for the PS3 increases the system capabilities of your console
to allow installation and execution of homebrew applications.
This Custom Firmware can also allow the loading of legal copies (backups) using these new functions.
We do not support or support the use of illegal copies.
We are not responsible for any damage caused by use of the Custom Firmware.
1. Download the firmware 3.55 for PS3 (PS3UPDAT.PUP file).
2. PS3UPDAT.PUP file patched using the patch included in this package using the application “bsdiff (http://www.daemonology.net/bsdiff).
3. PUP file installs the patch as normal firmware upgrade.
(If you’re in the version 3.55 you need to install from the recovery mode.)
- PS3 40GB FAT (CECHG04)
- PS3 60GB FAT (CECHC04)
- PS3 80GB FAT (CECHK04)
- 120GB PS3 Slim (CECH2004A)
- 120GB PS3 Slim (CECH2104A)
- PS3 Slim 250GB (CECH2004B)

KUDOS TO OUR TESTERS:
I regret the situation once again produced with my V1. The solution to this problem is not simple and is not expected in the short term.
Waninkoko im sure has gone to great lengths to ensure the same doesn’t happen, with this CFW that happened on his v1 release, even so i urge all PS3HaX members to be extra carefull and follow the instructions as they are posted.
Thanks to facanferff for the tip on IRC.

Well even after releasing a 3.56 firmware update Sony still aren’t happy. It seems they have taken of all the code regarding ps3 keys that is appldr metldr etc of off developers githubs and websites it seems Sony have started raging war against any of the known developers out there especially geohot(George Hotz),Kakroto Kmeaw,Graf_Chokolo. SONY has sent out DMCA demands that any code be taken of the developers website regarding the PS3 system security.
As an example geohots website no lnger shows the main keys to the ps3 system
http://geohot.com/old_index.html(you can see for yourself here)
As well as many other devs who have pushed the keys to their githubs.
COULD SONY BE THE NEW HITLER OF OUR TIME BANNING FREEDOM OF ACCESS TO OUR CONSOLE
to quote from kakaroto’s twitter:
Looks like github has received DMCA takedown and my repository are now unavailable
Well there you have it
There is a small saying to sum all this up
When it rains it pours

With CFW we were able to run homebrew and backups, on 3.55 Firmware and we were able to maintain online play, the homebrew was great, but unfortunately with every great hack etc, there is a bad side, this bad side was the Call of Duty: Black Ops cheaters, they miss used a homebrew filemanager to install a patch, in order to create lobbies and cheat at the game, ruining the experience for honest legit players, several websites have reported on this ban, so finding the original source was kinda hard, here is a quote from the possible original source(ripten.com)
By now everyone should know about the PS3 firmware update 3.56, some more than others. Explained by Sony as a “security update” it’s effects are now being felt by accused modders and hackers. CoD: BlOps hackers are getting hit hardest with a permanent CoD console server ban – many of them have expressed their “innocence” on the Official Ps3 Cod: Black Ops Forums.
It’s not limited to just a few. In fact, there are dozens of threads about this topic. Here are just a few of their posts:
How long am I banned for?
“This console has been permanently banned from the Black Ops servers…..”
Does this mean forever? Or will I be unbanned after awhile?
When i want to play black ops it says my console is banned permanently???i have payed 150$ for the Ps3 (i bought it yesterday (used) and just came home with a new copy of b-ops! but why is my system banned?
I dont know what happened i was just playin it normally. i installed the patch and played for a while and I went to have my shower and when i came back i was permanently banned! Somone please get me unbanned! It might of been my frineds though because i lent him my ps3 a couple of days ago because his ps3 got YLOD…
Today i got my account back finally an It wont let let me play online idk why it says prem ban i didnt do anything man i miss black ops well looks like i have to get a 360.
Hi i understand all of then terms and conditions of playing call of duty black ops, but my PS3 has been banned.. and i dont understand why? there a few people here who play online in this house but none of us can anymore. how can i get some help? or who do i need to contact.
Hi i have been banned for black ops when i click online it says you have been Prem banned from B.O but i didnt do anything to get banned what i did my m8 said he was 15th yea and i said let me go on ur acc then if ur 15th so i just went on his acc and he was 15th and then deleted the user then the next day when i went on my account that message came up my psn is FoRzA-MoNsTeR I am 6th prestige on B.o legit my KD is 1.79 and my wins to losses is 1.14 and a 124 winstreak i did not boost at all please unban me.
I was playin Black Ops and seached for a game of search and destroy, i just prestiged 4 da 4th time and entered a modded lobby. Ileft straight away when i relised wat it waz next thing i no i banned and reset.Has this r something similair happened to u???

It has been quite some time, since NZHawk, bobby6killer and PSX Libre, released their update finders, a dev by the name of Killah also released an update finder, last night he uploaded his new program to the downloads section, it is called Killahs PS3 AIO Tool, here is a quote from the download page:
Some of you eventually now “Killahs Awesome Update Finder v1.0″. After lot of hard work, long nights, many cigarettes & coffee i can present you my new tool “Killahs PS3 AIO Tool BETA v2″.
With this tool you can search for game updates (retail, debug, q&a, release candidate …..) and download them where ever you want, search for game titles (uses sonyindex.com), add games with infos & covers into a database, Options Dialog.
This tool is still in beta phase, because at the moment it is NOT multilanguage (only english) and maybe have some bugs
But i´ve tested each function and the program is still functionally I promise you
Please feel free to comment and PLEASE report me any bugs and/or ideas/wishes, what do you want in the program…
So, i hope some of you download it and will be happy to use it
The program is self explaining, each button, each textbox etc. has a tooltip in my opinion, it is n00b save But read below for a short introduction….
Working with it is totally easy:
1. click on “Options” and search for the dir(s) containing your games
2. Click on “Search files”, the program searches all directorys you´ve configured and extracts the game id(´s) and the path to the game
3. double click on the right side on a game id, it put´s this id into the text box “Game ID” and searches for updates
3.1 if is no update found, select an other update type
4. click on a checkbox of the update you want to download and select the path to save
5. If you want an update for a game you don´t have on your hdd, click on “Gamesearch”, enter the game name, select game region and click on “Find Game”. If the game is found, doubleclick on Game ID and the ID will be automatically entered in the update form and searches for an udpate
6. If you want to add some games to the database, click on “Database” and then “Search for games”. Then, the program searches all dir(s) you´ve configured in the options and add them to the listview. After that, click on “Save to Database” and all infos you can see are in the database

Bad news for Geohot as Sony has been granted a Temporary Restraining Order for Geohot. It has also been ruled that Sony has enough reason to keep the court case in San Fransisco. PSX-Scene has gotten the court documents below:

Ben Jeremy a developer from PSX Scene, has developed a log stealthing app for the PS3, here is a quote from the source:
LogJam Intelligent Log Stealthing released
Ah well. They still collect your logs, even if you don’t sign in, so here is my contribution: LogJam “Proof of Concept”. It cleans up your logs, not by erasing them (easy thing to spot!!), and not by copying the same data to them (again, VERY easy to spot), but by clearing out invalid entries, homebrew, games that don’t belong in your region, etc… and replaces them, if needed, with valid games, randomly.
The code is there, written in C, not compilable as is (built with PSL1GHT), but authors of Backup Managers are welcome to incorporate the “LogJam” Stealthing routines.
Read the Readme.txt file included.

(Small update to make sure patch.dat looks good)
Oh, and it’s packaged for installation with KMEAW firmware. If somebody wants to repackage it for others, go for it. I’m too tired, and have too much real work ahead of me.
