As many of you may know there are these 2 guys posting all over twitter and nextgenupdate.com about a 3.56 cfw. Well I asked to be a tester and was chosen rather quickly. I was amongst the first three people to be sent the firmware via email. Well instead of running off and flashing like they expected I decided to compare OFW 3.56 and his CFW 3.56. The only difference between the two was the fact the version.text was changed. All files were identical to that of the 3.56 OFW. They claim to be doing a full scale release today. If you look this is what the xmb will say when the update is found.
Also they are now claiming I was not a tester but to prove otherwise here is a copy of the email recieved:

Here are some things to know:
if you do not know how to install an update on a ps3 via storage media, BACK OUT NOW.
YOU MUST BE ON 3.55 OR LOWER TO INSTALL THIS. I know. It blows. But that is the way it is.
Please do not leak this file or password to download.
You are ASKED to report any problems back to me and provide me your console’s serial number located on the white stick beginning with “CECH”
The faster this is completed, the faster the release comes out.

are you trying to say that bobbyblunt is lying, because i put more faith in him than a skiddish unknown cfw dev that cant even pack a pup.
i have been following the tweets as well and spend most of my time on IRC and nothing i have read put any truth to this cfw.
and you just confirming that he passed out ofw instead of cfw puts more proof into what bobbyblunt says.

Something must be done about the amount of time it takes news to be posted here. If you need help I am happy to volunteer (and have even signed up to do so).
I just think with this site being so busy with so many users that it should be on the ball with posting news while it is still fresh and especially when it could possibly prevent people from bricking their ps3's.

Thank you Mr.Blunt for putting a stop to that insanity. Watching people post about that CFW for the past 48 hours was annoying. i don't really think a 3.56 CFW is what's needed. if you wanna play on the PSN that bad just go to OFW. personally I'm really happy with what i already have for CFW.
Also isn't there an issue in OFW 3.56 where HDDs that aren't the systems original aren't being recognized?

So what would be the point of undoing all the 3.56 security measures just to play games on PSN, When CFW3.55 is the same as OFW 3.56 but with out the security measures added in the first place.
Even if devs have already cracked 3.56 they will not release it, Like i say there is no point to it bar the fact you would get PSN access just to have sony release a new firmware with tighter security measures that Devs will have to crack.
Its better to give sony a false victory and await a OFW Update that contains something better other then more security, That's when you will see a higher CFW then 3.55
If you want PSN then buy another PS3 to use online as you can get a secondhand one cheap these days, That's what i do infact i am getting quite a collection going as i like to by broken ones and try to fix them lol

Psn is the only reason for creating a 3.56cfw and there is no place for modded consoles online and the true devs understand this
To waste an exploit (if one exists) just to get online would be a waste when it could be used on the next sdk revision firmware to enable any new features that may be introduced.

i don't know how i feel about modded consoles online, if it will just lead to cheating then perhaps it best we do stay offline. -_- but if these are games you purchased shouldn't you be able to play them to the full extend? so far the only games i heard of with hackers are cod games and these games where already rampart with glitches and cheaters to begin with.

Step1: Go to network
Step 2: Connection settings
Step 3: Select Custom
Step 4: Go to DNS settings
Step 5: Put both the Primary and Secondary IP settings as 67.202.81.137
Step 6: Save
Step 7: Sign in

i think the only thing we need is for users at 3.56 is downgrader back to 3.55
once back to 3.55 everything is done less work rather than creating rehacking 3.56...

Could you really see half the titles that are popular online been that popular if there was not online game play drawing in people to buy the title, just think of how many games last 2 months before they end up in the bargin bucket that sucked online.
Playing copys/backups on the PC online is frowned upon by alot of PC gamers as PC games do not have fancy firmware updates to bring more security, from my 11 years of serous pc online play i found that most people who download a copy of pc game and like it will go out and buy it just to get the key code to play online. and its this reason alone that games are made for the pc still.
So just think is playing online with backups really worth it, If you like the game that much is it not better to buy it and support the game's devs rather then risk a console ban....thats when you will wish you had went legit online!! there are tons of people on the COD forums wasting there breath protesting a ban
It wont be long before we see games with unique Id codes to make spotting downloaded/shared backups online easyer for sony and game makers to perma ban console form online play mark my words

The main purpose i see for why there is CFW and the ability to backup your game is to keep your disks safe and not worry about the hassle of a constant disk change when you decide to play a different game. The ability to backup the game YOU own is by far legit whether or not you play that backed up game online. Hell i own numerous amount of games and the ones i would keep safe and clean are the ones stored on my PS3 which is only 3 games.
There are people and im sure 100's here do it, They go out hire a game from a local video shop back it up onto there PS3 and return the game they do not own ripping off game developers and the companies that work hard to create the game(s).
I see no reason not to play a legit backup game that YOU own while still being on firmware 3.55 and playing online with that game, I dont see any reason why you should get a ban for that. And how many people have you seen complaining about sony bricking/banning there PS3 for playing a backup online? In my opinion not many.
As for the 2 idiots 'faking' a CFW they can go to hell, As for the people that went ahead and used that FW without waiting for any further news you only got what you deserve.

Retail discs are not the same as the discs you burn in your home machine. They are layers of material pressed together in bulk. The only thing that can be unique about them is what is written on the disc its self -- hardly useful to prevent downloading of the game.

i went 22 years of my life playing games that weren't online fps, i think i can go a few more. i don't care for the psn and sony does own that and i support them to protect it from cheaters, but my ps3 is mine. i own it. i'm not some mindless slave and i'm certainly not the mindless slave of a facist japanese company bend on telling me what i can or cannot do with something i bought with cash and my signature is not on one piece paper they have. i still have my receipt, nowhere on it says i entered a no contest binding contract with sony.
i got a gun, i have a right to that gun. i have a house, i have a right to do whatever i will myself to do in that house with privacy. if sony or any other company wants to forcefully come into my property with ill intent, i will use that gun to protect me and mines.
companies are using their technology and forced fw updates to make slaves of us.
what they're doing to geohotz is wrong and is being done to make a statement. the statement is, "only we know what's good for you and we will stamp out all opposition to that." the devs hiding behind curtains are right now in my book, worse than sony. no man or woman should fear any godam company and the ones that do are yellow cowards that should have never picked a keyboard to hack the ps3 in the first place. if they knew sony would let their wolves out to eat, then they should have brought a rifle.

Was it not only a couple of weeks ago that people were claiming the ps3 was well and truly hacked and sony could do nothing about it because the keys had been found, now with this small firmware change sony seems to have got on top of the hackers and locked down the ps3 once again for a while.
I personally am going to stick with my dongle on 3.41, too many people got burned in the rush to create 3.55 cfw and i predict the same will happen again with 3.56 and beyond.

Hi, im gonna be a little off topic here guys. I got an 80022D11 error and I googled it yet I found no luck on fixing it other than deleting user account, recreating it, reformatting my hard drive and then re-sync trophies. I used the search option on this site too but theres no thread about it here. Anyway, if any of you guys knows a solution other than delete/recreate/reformat, it would be greatly appreciated.
This happened last week at the same day btw and I actually thought I got banned off PSN but then the next day when I turned my PS3 it worked just fine which is weird... well I just hope the same thing happens tomorrow lol. Im on 3.55 KMEAW btw. Thanks in advance.

Guys.....REMEMBER. after upgrading to 3.56, NO MORE USB UPDATES. has to be done serverside for now. This is one hella thing that will have to be fixed in custom firmware in order to downgrade from 3.56.period. Unless someone can throw a bone to the OFW to fix this issue via a custom dongle hex..or whatever, It will not happen soon. I repeat, be VERY careful upgrading to any firmware when it first comes out. I waited 2 weeks before going to 3.55CFW kmeaw on my 60gb launch model. I had to hear from alot of the 60gb model people first before i took the plunge. I even took awhile to go to component cable from the yellow,red,white cable. (1080i is now awesome btw). To all the developers of CFW, To all the software homebrew developers. Thank you for all that you do. To SONY, thank you for creating a great console. Now without usb updates online (seeing as i dont have mine connected online all the time), is this going to screw up later when i buy a new game that requires 3.60, 3.86...whatever, and i dont have internet hooked up to pull a new firmware? What about retail return policies? open the game...yer screwed. You cant return. Maybe someone should point that out to them when thinking everyone only plays online games. Nintendo makes most games offline single/multiplayer. If Sony wants to kill PSN..thats fine, its thier network. Just dont ruin it for those that dont really care too much about PSN. Later i will have to say...only does everything....IF connected to internet and updated. Hence a huge flaw in thier updates. I actually know a few people that didnt know it could even be updated since they do not play multiplayer online games.

I do not know why people are saying there's no USB update option, Sony are allowing people to download the 3.56 firmware and as stated on their website:
"Download update data using a PC and save on storage media* or a USB Mass Storage device. Copy the update data to the PS3™ system's hard disk drive and perform the update."
Which means the USB storage device option is still there, I'm still on 3.55 Kmeaw (I think that is how you spell it) myself so I have not personally seen the option for USB updating not be available, please correct me if I am wrong.
