Sup folks, it seems like the 3.55 firmware downgrader has been released (3.55 to 3.41), we reported previously that kakarot was working on a method to downgrade using a PUP file, but decided not to release it because it only worked in one machine, but now there is hope for you 3.55 users the downgrader has been released.

He could mean all units with the smaller NAND size, as there is very little difference between the phat without BC and the slim models. Don't try on the newer PHAT models untill confirmed otherwise, as I assume very similar results to the slim will occur

I tested it with a older PS3 Slim OFW 3.55 and bingo, a successful downgrade to mod. 3.41, than downgrade to 3.00 and then upgrade to OFW 3.41.
Everything's going great, even Blue-Ray and jailbreak.

just to note its worked.
also did the same usb trick to go from 3.41 to 3.15 on the usb stick using service mode file.
when ps3 started up it found all my old accounts but i think my blu ray could be now corrupt and cannot test until i get hold of a blu ray film LOL
going to be back on 3.41 any minute as ive made a PS3/UPDATE/341 BLAH BLAH LOOOOOOOL

The "bricking" of slim models is not a brick at all. Its the same problem that the newest slims have when they are unable to downgrade. If you have an older slim it will downgrade fine AND if you have the newest revision of slim that cant be downgraded you can recover from the "brick" the same way everyone else did

Me for instance: I have geohot's CFW 3.55, blackbox FTP 1.2 (just installed multiman, I'm gonna figure that out tonight) and if they keep uploading 3.55 signed games and I just use my computer to upload it to my PS3, what else do I need?! i think this is the whole idea no?

Truthfully if your on Geo 3.55 CFW, I would just stick with that for now.
You always have the option to downgrade later if you want.
IMHO Geo CFW 3.55 is the safer and simpler option.
Installing Geo´s CFW is one step, how can you frack that up, lol?

You must downgrade from 3.55 to 3.41 before downgrading to another firmware.
1) Fully power down the PS3 Fat (toggle the power switch)
2) Restore power to the PS3 Fat
3) Format a USB drive with the Fat32 filesystem
4) Open Lv2diag_355.zip and copy the file from the File1 folder (Lv2diag.self) to the root of the USB drive
5) Copy PS3UPDAT.PUP from Downgrade.zip to the root of the USB drive
6) Insert your payload device with PSGrade into the USB port closest to the Blu-Ray drive. Power on the PS3.
7) The PS3 should start up in service mode. Power it down with a controller.
8) Remove your payload device, and insert the USB drive into the same port. Power on the PS3
9) The PS3 will downgrade, and then automatically turn itself off. Nothing will appear on your TV.
10) Power your PS3 back on, and you should still be in service mode. From here, you can now downgrade to earlier firmwares.
To return your PS3 to normal retail functions, shut down your PS3 using the controller. Then, repeat steps 3-4 using the Lv2diag.self from the File2 folder instead. Then, repeat step 8.

i think i used the incorret way... I dont know how to enter in factory / service mode, so a used other method:
1. Make sure the PS3 is turned off,
2. Press and hold the power button on the PS3 it will power on then power off.
3. When it's off press and hold the power button again until you hear two consecutive beeps.
4. It will ask for the controller to be connected via the USB cable,
5. Turn on the controller and you will have access to the menu.
I think I brick my PS3... too bad !

It's working but I haved some problem on the begining.
After I use PUP file from webside and do what I should, I wont to downgrade to 3.15.
At the begining was good FW was laod but it was stop and green light was flushing all the time and console dont shut down. When I turn off manual, Ps3 dont want to load the system. Green light was only for 3-5sec and again red.
I was F..king scared that I F..k up PS3, but then I copy OFW 3.41 on usb, put to PS3 and again system start to download. And right now WORK PERFECT!!
Don't be scared if something like this will hapend.

I can do anything +more. Except go online with games that have not been updated yet....(which would be cool, but all good games have a patch that make them unplayable backed up)
Not to mention 3.41 has a fully functioning backup manager.
When (see if ever) they get the full featured Backup manager on 3.5+ I will look at updating, and then only if I dont have to re-rip my games. It took me days to get my collection from bluray to internal HDD.

Just a heads up PS3-Slim model CECH-2502A bricks using this method. I turn on green light for like 5 seconds then it powers off and no standby light till i press power again. Ok. I have NEVER downgraded a ps3 before and I have successfully done so today with a TI-84 on an older compatible slim. I downgraded from geohots 3.55 to official 3.55. Then to modified 3.41. Then to 3.15 official, back up to 3.41 official then JB with 3.55 spoof. No mistakes, screw ups or wtfs. Everything worked the first time and I am successfully playing backups via multman. If people take the time to research and read the many tutorials this is very easy albeit time consuming. Thanks to the people who took the time to make this possible and the people who took the time to write the tutorials.

Just downgraded from 4.55 for the most part successfully. Lost BR playback. But downgraded to this. Then downgraded to 3.15 then upgraded to 3.41. Right now its on 3.41 but won't play blu ray disc, which kind of sucks just to give a heads up.

And I can tell you for a fact that this hack makes Sony more money than it loses them. Between people buying extra consoles,more people buying consoles and the money they'll earn from repairs from people who don't follow directions bricking consoles is far more profitable for Sony than the small percentage of people who mod their system. People who would have bought the games before will still buy them now. The people who pirate games never would have likely bought them in the first place. Yes they will lose money by people hacking on their online service. If online becomes unenjoyable because of hackers cheating, everyone will stop using/buying consoles. For some of the 2nd gen phat consoles, you have to actually have the ps3/update folder for the downgrade to work, INSTEAD OF THE PUP FILE ON THE ROOT FOLDER. Soooo, if your console doesn't seem to like the guide's downgrade method, try putting it in the usual update location.
I softbricked my console many many times before I got this figured out. Luckily, our own Gliitch wrote a guide on how to recover from a soft brick.

Great work guys! I upgraded to 3.55 so I could sync my trophies and then downgraded back to 3.41. I must have done something wrong because my internal hdd was formatted but that's not a big deal since I keep my games on an external drive, just lost a few save files that I haven't backed up in a couple weeks.

There are reports of this bricking Slim consoles, do not attempt to downgrade a Slim console with this method. Older Fat PS3's are reporting no issues. Also, after downgrading with this method, your PS3 will think its a 3.56 console. It is recommended that you downgrade the traditional way afterward to 3.15 firmware, and then upgrade the traditional way to 3.41 official firmware.

guys, if your ps3 still has a green light anywhere, your console ISN'T BRICKED. search for gliitch's guide to fix a "brick". you're more than likely talking about a soft brick and that's no sweat to recover from. I had to "fix" mine more than 10 times in one day due to my overly tricky console to downgrade. 2nd gen ps3 phats usually need a slightly different method. look for my post earlier in this thread.

If I downgrade from 3.50 to 3.41 will i still lose my Blur ray player? or if only when im downgrading from 3.55-3.41?

I had an issue with my 120gb slim. It started ok but after my ps3 saved the pup to the hard drive, it restarted and attempted to downgrade. After a couple of seconds it failed ands red screened. I couldn't get it to reboot or get to recovery. I started to panic. When the screen started not even showing up I almosted listed it on eBay as broken. In the end I ended up putting lv2.1file and the pup on a new USB stick and it worked awesome. Scared the begeezus out of me though. Also it worked. 3.41 for the win.
Edit. Bluray still works.

Sorta a noob; Got a question, I'm not in a rush, I'm currently at 3.41OFW, If i upgrade to 3.55OFW to play online and then later decide I want to jailbrake, homebrew, backup ect ect .. will I still be able too?

I too have a Slim 160gb CECH 2501A 3.55
I keep reading that one should not attempt to down grade the CECH 251A and CECH 251B.
Is the CECH 2501A and CECH 251A the same thing, i.e. like a typo
Also new to the site and trying to figure out where to start to learn all of the terminology, ins and outs. Like wtf is a PUP anyway. So far have only read this thread from top to bottom. Moded my Wii sometime back and on the surface it looks like this should be more simple but there seems to be a lot of different possible pathes to take.
Any tutorial reccomendations given my configuration listed above ?
I have not even begun to venture into connecting any usb HDD or done any backups, but recently did purchase a dongle before realizing that I shouldn't have updated to 3.55
