Steps:

!) Delete all GAME DATA you may have on you PS3 system for "Need for Speedâ„¢ SHIFT" game!
1) Open multiMAN in file manager mode on your PS3 system
2) Browse to your game (on internal HDD) and press [R3] while PS3_GAME folder is selected
3) This operation will create SHADOW copy of "Need for Speedâ„¢ SHIFT" to:
--> /dev_hdd0/G/E00682
and --> /dev_hdd0/game/BLES00682
4) Exit multiMAN
5) Copy the generated PKG file to the root folder of USB stick or USB HDD:
--> for firmwares 01.90-03.41: [PS3PKG-BLES00682_00-NEEDFORSPEEDSHIF.pkg]
--> for firmwares 03.55- : [PS3PKG-BLES00682_00-NEEDFORSPEEDSHIF-FW_355.pkg]
6) Install the PKG file from [* Install package file] menu on your PS3
7) Launch the game directly from "Need for Speedâ„¢ SHIFT (HDD)" icon on the [GAME] column in XMB

Seems like nothing will stop deank from giving his fans what they want, he managed to figure out a way to load backups from multiman. Rather brilliantly as well, altho this really does nothing more then simplify the xmb method its nice to see support being shown.

Grear job from DeanK, did read it yesterday evening on psx scene but there is still no external HD support and Eboot.bins still get modified so it might be the best file manager still no reason for me to upgrade to 3.55. So the waiting for Gaja or Open Manager for 3.55 Peek/Poke continues

No, it looks as if he has just masked Multiman to look like you are running Need for Speed Shift. It would make sense to use a game with a decent hard drive install to ghost Multiman. This way it looks like the game is doing exactly what it's supposed too, as NFS:S was an installer based game, accessing the HDD would not look too shady.

You forgot to add the steps for the ebootfix.exe, which is what you need:
Step 1: Drag & Drop a GAME folder to ebootFIX.exe (I'd suggest to drag&drop PS3_GAME folder)
Step 2: If everthing goes well you'll get two PKG files + instructions TXT:
For example:
1) Drag&drop: F:\GAMES\BLES00682-NFS_Shift\PS3_GAME
2) You get 3 files in multiMAN_eboot_pkg folder:
* PS3PKG-BLES00682_00-NEEDFORSPEEDSHIF.pkg
* PS3PKG-BLES00682_00-NEEDFORSPEEDSHIF_355.pkg

I have Waninkoko's CFW on my PS3 Slim [CECH-2103B] and use this version of multiMAN.
Games I have found NOT to work:Games I have yet to try:Also, 3.55 PKG's do not seem to work with this CFW, only 3.41, I still need to mess about a bit more first.Games I have found to work:
One other observation: I do see my PS3 lock-up (needing the power lead pulled) when resuming back to XMB, but this is hit & miss.

I think we should stick to using the other devs modified eboot pkgs on geohots 3.55 once you get the folder structure correct you can pretty much work any game & as for updates you simply replace the patched games eboot with your modified eboot you used to initially run the backup.

This is just direct boot modified to work from xmb as it uses no system calls.
True managers are still not ready yet, this just simplifies the process of editing eboots etc.

i have geos 3.55 , thankfully i passed on wan's yesterday cuz i have an og 60fat and they were bricking left and right.. i DID get multiman installed on that but i was told it wont play any backups right now so i havnt bothered trying... i think thats right. ;/

Great Job! I previously had the Castlevania in my HDD and everytime i would start the game once and quit, the xmb game pkg gave me a unknown source error,.... but know with this awesome update i no longer need to re-install the pkg to keep playing the game
... thumbs up.
BTW-i have the wutangPATCH with geohot jailbreak.

What it all means is THEY CANT DO IT, they cant with the current CFW's give us a simple click and go B/M, the PS3 stands firm :aetsch: ....(excluding Waninkoko's multi bricking effort)...
By the time they sus it the CFW thing will be over with, $ony will issue an update very shortly that removes the abillity to run these hacks....

hukfed - I dont think it will be as simple as releasing an update. The entire encryption system has failed. Sony can probably block/ban these consoles, but to re-secure the system might be impossible. Consider this, Sony must now secure the system while still allowing legacy software to run. Since the keys are now known there is no way for the ps3 to know if the software was signed by a legitimate ps3 dev or not. To fix this Sony would need to change the keys, and fix the hole which allowed geohot to obtain the keys in the first place (they would probably need to redesign the entire security system). If they did that then none of the games previously released would work. If they added legacy support for those games then you could still run unofficial software, by signing it with these keys.
everyone else - If you look at how long the ps3 has been locked up tight, you will realize a few more days wont kill ya. Things are moving very rapidly on the ps3 front, remember these guys are not getting paid to provide you people with free games. Show some respect! If it were easy you could just release your own cfw and backup manager. As a dev I understand how challenging it is to program complex systems, the difficulty increases exponentially when you add encryption. Its one thing to design software when you have a nice API and support, but in the beginning these guys had nothing more than limited access via other os.

Just did a backup of Disk Gran Turismo 5 Prologue via Multiman took the disk out the PS3 and actually I made it play in XMB. If I copy instead a game from the hard drive on the PS3 and try to start it I get black screen (Call of Juarez).

ive done this with a few games but the basic thing is if your game gives you a error of some sort you have to modify the PARAM.SFO as i did for blackops to say its gamedata not a HG or DG and then just follow the tutorial

So basically this doesn't do anything new? Makes the ps3 think that it's psn game, so it runs from xmb. So i guess that the compability hasn't improved compared to manually modifying eboot to run from hdd.

This is a nice update, but I think I'm going to stick with 3.41 multiMAN for a while. I need to install the covers for mine at some point.
For most of the consoles, Wanin's cfw works fine. The only reason you believe it's bad to patch lv2 in the first place is because of what Geohot said and ironically that information came from the same person you guys so openly bash at every given chance.
If you don't like the firmware that's fine, but just shut the **** up about it already, the lot of you.

Wait a Minute...
Blackops works great from Multiman... I have the BLES01032 EU Version and it works perfect from the manager, all you have to do is use the original Eboot/Param.SFO´s.
This NFS Shift Tutorial worked excelent for me, I have the exact same version of the tutorial and i managed to get it work with no problem!.
PS: Blackops works form external HDD :D.

Sims 3 dont work. It comes up with this error
"The game data is corrupted. The game will close. You must delete the game data to play this game"
So it seems that the tutorial to get the backups working is false, the CFW is a false for backups, or I am doing something wrong.
I cannot get any of these games to work.

i've been at this for 7 hours, i've tested 3 games and i have another 4 left. I dont fancy doing them cos i know they wont work. 3 Games in 7 hours...

What I did
Opened the unziped tool folder then using drag/drop BLES00776 folder on my PC to the Ebootfix.exe it made the pkg files required.
Used multiman's built in ftp server and transfered my BLES00776 folder to my normal dev_hdd0/game/LAUN12345/ through WinSCP (ftp program on my pc) then in multiman after transfer was complete.
I pressed select + start using the filemanger went to the directory of BLES00776 highlighted the PS3_Game folder and clicked R3 it did its thing.
Went back to the XMB using the previously made pkg from the EbootFix.exe for my 3.41 fw. Installed the pkg and started the game. Been playing for a while now.

Whenever I shadow copy (tested on 3 games) it asks if u wanna do it, i click yes. Then when it does the process u know with the bars, it starts at 0% then jumps to copying 141 files (etc) then goes back to the progress and immediately finishes.
Do any of you actually see progress? Like copying 30% - 42% - 60% - 89% - 100% cos it seems to be copying files EXTRA quick.
When i check the new folders, its all there... correct sizes n all.

Followed the instructions and all I get when launching the game is a black screen, then have to power down holding the power button. It shows up in the xmb, but something is not right. First time I tried, i was hearing the sound of the game in the xmb. Now I see it in the xmb still, but no sound and still doesn't run. Imma wait till something else pops up. BTW, I'm using Wutangrza CFW>Geo. CECHA01 60gb.

2. Then transfer the ENTIRE folder to your /game/ folder
3. Made a shadow copy in multiman on that same folder

Geohot's firmware is not meant for backups, just homebrew.
Wutangrza's firmware is used for backups and homebrew as it enables Peek and Poke (too technical for me to explain lol)

Hey you guys, all this stress, just hold on to what you got for now, for me i struggled a bit with the FBANext to get this installed and running with roms.
Problems i had were the right neogeo.zip bios, putting roms in the right directory and using usb not on the 1 port but the 2nd port.
SO YOU GUYS, WAIT FOR THE BACKUP LAUCHER AND ENJOY THE RETRO INSTALLMENT FROM GEOHOT.
Play the oldies, snes, nes, genesis and other ye' good old games.

So i just Installed NFS Hot Pursuit and it works. So some games work and some games dont. This is exactly like Geohot's CFW. Same thing with the custom eboots and MultiMan's backup manager.
So i guess we're gonna have to wait...
But it gets you thinking... something would have already been functional by now... POSSIBLY if Waninkoko's cfw didnt brick...

Used geohot 3.55jb and installed newest multiman. But when trying to back up super street fighter 4 it listed the game as 14gb.
And then hung up on 99%. Had to shut off. Also tried bionic commando and also hung at 99%. Any ideas why?
Give a lot of you major props for the ps3 hacks, its a lot more complicated than hacking my droid or my wii!

Waninkoko's CFW will only brick your console if it has a 256MB nand, if it doesn't it's plain smooth sailing...
Anyone who has a Slim PS3 like me I advise you to update to Waninkoko's 3.55 CFW.
All my game dumps from 3.41 working perfect, all updated, all playable online on PSN! :D

Im gonna explain somethings that many of you are asking...
This is for 3.55. If you are on 3.5 or below...dont need to read the rest...
You will need geohot jailbreak first to install multiman. After you installed, you will have to go to recovery mode (just for safety...i saw some poeple who updated safely...and some others not so much..) and update with the Waninkoko's PUP. To go to recovery mode, just press the power button (and dont let go) until PS3 turns off. Do it again, but now, let go when you hear 2 quick beeps (and then the recovery mode will start). Insert your usb drive, go to update system and wait until several installs are made (When its over, it will start normaly with no need to get out of recovery mode by yourself).
After PS3 updates, you can now go to multiman and do some backups
There are some notes to pay attention:
-there are no longer the folder GAMEZ. Now its GAMES. (thats why many games dont work after you update to 3.55 from 3.41).
-Yes, the games can update normaly...
-Some of the older games dont run...but all of the new ones and most of the old ones do just fine
-Multiman runs games on external HD or flash drive, but thats not a good idea...because the velocity its to slow and the game could stop. You can backup any game thats on your flash drive or external HD (remember that it must be formated in FAT32). If the game its bigger than 4.5GB, use a program "TeraCopy" to paste it from your PC to your external HD or flash drive (this way you can avoid the long hours on the FTP). And Remember the games must be in a specific folder "PS3/GAMES/" (otherwise, multiman will not reconise them).
-When you want to start a game, press X to load (on multiman) and then say NO to exit XMB. After you automaticly get out of multiman, you have to go up until you find a "app_home/PS3_GAME", and then press X...and there you go
-Many FATs are breaking...i think that exist a list with the compatible models. If you have a FAT, i recomend you to look for it.

It works!!!
im running games off my external that i used for my jailbreak 3.41 on my 3.55 wuntangs/flukes1 cfw with geohot patch, Just install the .pkg, that will install a pslight app that you have to run every time you boot, when you run it you get a white screen that says "success, now load your backup manager" you press x to exit and run your back up manager as you would under 3.41 jailbreak mode.

When i first installed pkg, went to run pslight ap which i don't think i should've done, got black sreen, system hangs, so i held power button to force shutdown, then restarted ran pslight app second time and it ran sweet.

Sorry, just a quick note on my explication earlier:

It doesnt need the folder "PS3/". You can just have one folder "GAMES/". Paste them all in and multiman will read them this way.

Edit: Nvm I got a hold of it.
However, it doesn't seem to work. I did OFW -> GEO -> OFW -> WUTANG -> GEO -> LV2.pkg and I get to the white screen no problem but the game itself still doesn't load. I did the backup straight from my disc. The screen is black and every once in a while the HDD LED will blink. I think Resistance is just un-backup-able for some reason. I'll hopefully get my hands on another game and I can try that one.

Hi Everybody,
My PS3 is on 3.55 FM, and I also installed Flukes and GeoHot (Of Course) CFW.
I download this app and installed via Install Packages from the ps3 menu.
I have tried 5 games so far.
Daemos souls - NOT WORKING
Heavy Rain - WORKING
Splatter House - WORKING
Valkyria Chronicles - WORKING
Sega Master Drive - WORKING
How I make it work? Easy I just follow up the instructions posted at the top of this tread.
AAA one more thing to generate the PKG files you need to DRAG AND DROP the FOLDER PS3_GAME to the ebootFIX.exe and wait around 20 seconds and that's.
Then just grab the PKG version that you need and installed. If you have doubts send me a PM or whatever.

ONE MORE THING!!! HOW IN THE **** I UPDATE A GAME? OR HOW I CAN SKIP UPDATING GAME? I DONT WANT THE LAME ****ING SOLUTION OF UNPLUG THE INTERNET CABLE!! GIVE A REAL SOLUTION TO **** ISSUE.

So does kmeaw's .PKG actually make more games compatible?
How would i get as far as making a game compatible? Do i enable enable this before i open any Backup manager, and install the backups the normal way?

it only says directory and the files of the game (MW2) are shown
like favela.ff or animation.ff
