Warning: Do not update for firmware 3.60+. This hack is now patched on future firmware versions and no way to go back. There currently is now way to bypass PSN. You can use a PSN alternative known as XLink-Kai.
With the latest developments on the PS3 scene, it seems that Wutangrza has finally managed to get backups to run on PS3 fw 3.55 with his CFW (custom firmware). Now to lay out a few ground rules before I go on with this tutorial. Please understand that there are 3 different main CFW floating around right now. They are Geohots, Wutangrza, Waninkoko and kmeaw CFW; feel free to read more about each one and learn about them before contuning with this guide. Please note that the Waninkoko has a high rate of PS3 bricking so it is not recommended, where as the Wutangrza CFW or kmeaw CFW (what this guide will cover), almost no reports of bricked PS3′s have been reported. So if something went wrong, you didn’t follow the directions below.
This guide will teach you how to install kmeaw CFW, how to enable the use of backup managers and play backed up (legal) games/homebrew and connect to PSN. This guide works for almost every other current CFW (minus the files). This guide is for educational purposes only.
Lets get started….
Step 0
Update your PS3 to the original PS3 firmware 3.55 (regardless of what CFW your currently are).
Step 1
In this step we will create the patched custom firmware. You can either make your OWN patched CFW or download a prepatched one. Due to legal reasons we will not link the prepatched PUP in this tutorial, but you are free to “google” it. Just make sure you know the source of the prepatched PUP and the MD5/SHA1 match up. We will show you how to make your own (windows).
- Download the required the files for CFW here.
- Download the original PS3 firmware 3.55 here or here (same as the one your downloaded in Step 0)
- Extract the kmeaw_cfw_lv2.pkg.rar folder and copy the original PS3 3.55 CFW (PS3UPDAT.PUP) inside the your folder (see screenshot)
- Open command prompt (Start > CMD)
- Navigate to your folder (type in cd C:UsersAdminDirectory to kmeaw_cfw_lv2 folder and press Enter)
- Once there, type in the following exactly as shown in bold:
- Let it run and do the patching, then you should now see a “PS3CFW.PUP” folder in your folder.
- Delete the original PS3UPDAT.pup and rename “PS3CFW.pup” to PS3UPDAT.pup
- You have now created your patched CFW and are now ready to update.
- Before proceeding please make sure that the MD5 should be the following (or for any you find online):
bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3CFW.PUP patchfile

Step 2
Time to install the custom firmware. This step is pretty much standard for all/any patched CFW file you may be using. Copy the newly created and renamed PS3UPDAT.PUP to your flash drive (/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP). And now update your PS3 firmware as normal via XMB.
Note: If you get a error saying that your already at the latest update and it kicks you out, then you need to update your PS3 CFW via RECOVERY mode. TO boot into recover mode read THIS.
I got that error first time going through so I went ahead via recovery menu to complete the process.
If you see this on your XMB then the CFW installed properly:
Step 3
Now that CFW is installed its time to get the backup managers to work.
- Download Kmeaw Patch here
This is a PKG which you install via PKG option in XMB. You have to run this whenever you want to run the backup manager (per restart). This PKG does certain things I will not go into that allows backup managers to run with this particular CFW. It is likely that backupmanagers in the future will build this feature in so do some research on this once this guide gets a bit dated.
Step 4
Install a backup manager (must be signed), I recommend and am using Rogero manager v7.8:
- multiMANÂ (DOWNLOAD)
- Open Manager 2.1 (DOWNLOAD)
- Rogero BM Manager v7.8 (DOWNLOAD)
- Simple AVCHD Manager – (DOWNLOAD)
Some notes on backup managers – you must have any original PS3 game inside and you must boot from XMB.

This FW+PKG hasn't worked for me with either Resistance: Fall of Man or Resistance 2. When I try to run Resistance 2 I just get a black screen with a single X on it. If I wait, nothing happens; if I press X my PS3 reboots. Anyone have luck with either of these games?

I know there must be a newbie link in this forum but my question truly pertains to this tutorial. If I am still working on a 3.41 console that has never been updated nor connected to psn since the 3.41 patch what would be the best options for myself, If I still wanted function of my BD device and wanted to possibly run homebrew app in the near future?
Should I update to 3.55 via psn and then follow the process here (albeit I will wait until the proper patches come out) or update by other means and if so what are other directions to take for updating?
Now the big question. If i was to venture down this path, is this new exploit done via a standard fat32 usb or is this still being done using a usb key board?

I just got it to work, nobody ever mentioned that when prompted with the "Not all games work directly from MM, return to XMB?" that you have to go back to the XMB and have a disc in the PS3 and the disc will be changed to the game you're trying to load. I have it working fine now. Working great now on a release date 60gb fatty. You should definitely mention this in the tutorial, I was stuck on this for hours and I know a lot of other people have been stuck on it as well.

This works a lot like the 3.41 jailbreak just no dongle. Rogero is highly recommended. I backed up my copy of New Vegas and it did not run under MultiMAN (kept getting .ini errors.) Ran rogero and it works just fine takes updates and freezes less than the disc. I am a happy man knowing I can keep my disc free of scratches.

Everything installed properly for me, but I can't get any backups to run. I have tried Little Big Planet and MW2 on MultiMan, Gaia Manager, and Rogero Manager and after selecting the game it seems like it's working (it goes back to the XMB and shows the games as a disk.) But when I select */app_home/PS3_GAME or the disk it boots to a black screen and freezes. I have to turn off my PS3 from the back to unfreeze it. Before you ask, yes, I ran lv2.pkg first. Anybody know what's going wrong?

Quick question guys, this might sound noobish but I am a noob at this. Anyway, I modified my own 3.55 pup with the original one. I followed all the steps and successfully created a CFW PUP. I even checked the hash MD5 thingy too and it matched. Now, I placed the file in my USB which is FAT32 and plugged it in my ps3. I then tried to update through mass storage device yet my PS3 says "no update file blah blah found". I tried it both on regular and recovery mode. Any tips or advise? it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I ripped them myself. I tried making a new user and trying the games again and I still get a black screen. Could the file paths on my usb be the problem? I haven't adjusted anything and the backup managers read it fine. Or maybe it's the game update data? Not sure what to do!

I did everything on this tutorial 100% correct. I tried loading up BLACK OPS on rogero manager, then i clicked on the *PS3_GAME thing, it goes to a black screen and never changes.... only way i can get out of that is if i turn off my PS3

After installing every thing and working:
I copied in dev_hdd0/GAMES two games Call of Juarez and Bayonetta but when I try to load it with Rogero and Multiman from XMB looks like they are starting but it brings me back to the XMB page and the game will not load
Any help!!!!!

you need a cd in the drive. when you come back to xmb again boot from the CD/BD icon and not from the home/ps3_game... this should work for some games like cod:black ops..

Does this CFW / BM / patches etc boot backups for 3.5 & 3.55 properly?
I have been using 3.41 and dongle and don't want to bother with any of these alternative firmwares until I see that they are working properly.
There seems to be a thousand different methods to get these games working in any of the recently released CFW's but my two questions are:
Do the games now launch as easily as 3.41 with JB dongle?
Do they actually work properly?
I'm sorry if I have come across a little blunt but I have been closely watching and reading all the forums as of late with the releases of the CFW's etc, I know its still very early since a lot of ppl have installed 3.55 and patches etc but still seems like a lot of stuffing around to get games working.
I have a personal collection of 41 games and the only games that I have not been able to get working under 3.41 are:
Gran Turismo 5
Monster Jam path of destruction
Sega mega drive ultimate collection
I have tried all the eboot patching etc and they just refuse to work but I am not willing to update to newer firmwares until I see some good results.
Please feel free to advise on anything I might have missed somewhere and good information is always appreciated and if there comes a time that I can help with any info I will.
Unfortunately somebody always seems to beat me to it.

It did make some of the games that disappeared in the backup manager when I enabled mem patching re appear but sadly the best I can get out of GT5 is a glowing GT logo and no HDD activity and then it crashes and I have to restart it.
I would be willing to give one of these CFW a test run if I knew that these games would work.

I got GT5 working perfectly on Waninkoko's custom firmware. It works even with 1.05 update. Using multiman and booting with a game disk.
But Waninkoko might be a little risky to install thow. It was working for me but you better check the compability list before installing or you might end up with a brick.
Remember to use the original EBOOT.BIN, and not the 3.41 patched one

And to josvadolla:
My PS3 seems to be one that will be ok for waninkok's CFW but have just been very hesitant to try just in case I have any issues going back to 3.41 if it doesn't work out.
There is only a few games that I have issues with I can live without GT5 and wait a bit longer.
Hopefully there will be a major breakthru released where the CFW is as good as it has been on the PSP as in relaiablity etc

Everything working, was running a 3.41 jailbreak with my sansa. The only trouble I have is my DDR PS3. When I start it says failed to load game data. Please quit game. I tried Rogero. No go. Open manager displays and loads but...still above error. May have to rip my original again.

I've made progress and by far this CFW is the best. It works!!!
NBA LIVE 09, FiGHT NIGHT R4 works so far. Rainbow Six froze on me because of updates.(Don't know what to do about that yet). Will test some more games.

Install LV2 Pkg and managers via XMB via USB Storage.
run LV2 Pkg before running managers... works like butter on toast.
Thank you for the means of freeing this door stop of a machine of 4 years...

After a few nerve wrecking moments, everything is working!
The games that are not working are those that have been modified to work with fw 3.41.. I have restored the original eboot.bin to those games that were not working and now they are up and running with no problem!

i Installed this CFW (first change to my PS3) everysthing seems to work fine, installation went well and so on.
I tried to start up snes9x but it comes up with an error message. Do i have to wait for a version of the emulator specialy for this Firmware?
I would love to play snses ^^
btw couldnt test backup manager so far, imo Backuping Fifa 2011 and will try it using Rogero Manager.

I installed everything fine!
Installed the lv2-v2 pkg,i see the white screen and a small"press x to quit"

when you unrar the kmeaw_cfw_lv2.pkg.rar you are left with a folder that is called kmeaw_cfw_lv2.pkg
that is the pkg that you need to install

ok, here are the main questions people are asking, that DON'T seem to be getting answered.......
1. If someone is on 3.41 with a JB dongle, do they REALLY need to do this??
2. Will the games that have been backed up on 3.41 still work on 3.55CFW??
3. What actual code/hack is used?? Does this use Geohot, Wutangrza, Waninkoko or someone else's code/work??
Also, i have seen people saying about going 3.41 > 3.55 OFW > 3.55 CFW with peek & poke > 3.55 CFW Geohot on top, so u then have peek & poke enabled and the benifits of Geohot firmware too. I am loathed to try this as everything is working fine for me on 3.41 with my JB dongle, but obviously all the new "STUFF" that is coming out is all being done for 3.55CFW, i dont wanna lose everything i have done on 3.41 just to be on 3.55CFW..........

1)No but you will get back PSN functionality.
2) Yes they should but if you have modified the eboot then you will need to put them back to original or to 3.55 if you are going to install them as pkg's.
3)Its all based on Geohots patch of the 3.55 OFW.
the patch is applied to on top or in addition to the OFW so each patch can be used by itself making its own CFW or can be patched onto an existing CFW

one last little thing, keep reading about THIS BM or THAT BM working or not working, all the games i have backed up are on my external except ones that HAVE to be on the internal for file size reasons, will i have to convert them all to .pkg type or is there a BM that does actually work with THIS CFW and will do exactly the same job as it does on my 3.41 JB?? i have tried reading and there are so many conflicting reports that its hard to know what to do.

Can anyone help me out with this question? I am already on Waninkoko (CECHJ) and Rogero with really no problems except some stange XMB lockups and occasional strange graphic overlays (do a backup and wait about half an hour, the PS3 home screen overlays ontop of Rogero backup screen and when I went to exit via X it said you must quit game even though I didn't run one, weird).
Anyway, is there a good reason to swap to Kmeaw now? And if I did am I correct in saying you would go back to OFW 3.55 via recovery, apply Kmeaw via recovery and then the patch etc?

no it wont erase your hdd. Your game-saves and stuff should remain. the emu's that use the 3.41 syscalls will probably not work but most of them have made 3.55 pkg's or will shortly im sure. good luck

Ok, I followed the instructions to the letter...OFW>CFW>Lv2> BM of choice...
All seemed to be fine...but when I run the Lv2 patch it takes me to a white screen...the info says Resolution..Blah blah..Hello from Russia..Success now run backup manager...Hit X......
No other options so I hit X and all that happens is a Black screen with wavy stars.....What am I doing wrong....

I install Kmeaw CFW without problems, and can play anything with Rogero Manager. Initially i got some problems with Multiman and Open Manager, playing GT5, it cannot read saved game data.

Add me to the group of people that have no games launching. They all just go to a black screen.
Running a 80gb (non-backwards compatible), and I followed all the instructions to a T. Launching the lvl2 pkg works fine and allows me to load the backup mangers, but all games just go to a black screen. I have tried OBM, MultiMan and Rogero and a number of games, but all have the same issue.

My BD drive is broken so I can only launch games from app/home. Does anyone know if this is possible with Wutangrza + Geohot, which is what I'm currently running. I can't see app/home anywhere, so I'm guessing that feature is not yet in place with this cfw.

everything worked for me perfectly.
BUT:
when I start any application, like for example my Original Borderlands directly from bluray without any BackUp loader, or Flow, I've got a really annoying background Noise/Sound. it's just loud.
when i'm in XMB, everything works fine. XMB button sounds are normal.
so is the Musicplayer.
it only seems to appear at games and homebrews. :/
any suggestions?
edit: i've just got the standart "fat" ps3 version. neither slim nor the 60GB.

OK, I had some issues with this, Black screen, not returning to xmb to name the two most annoying things....So here's what I did.....
I formatted my (spare) hard drive, that previously had Geo's CFW.....
I then installed the OFW......Then checked that games returned back to xmb....
Then from xmb System update I installed the Kmeaw CFW..again loaded a game and checked it returned to xmb......
I then installed the Lv2-v2.pkg....ran it and checked Lv2 and game returned to xmb...
I then installed Rogero backup manager....Shut down system and restarted...
Ran the Lv2.pkg then installed Ridge Racer 7 to Internal HDD...
All working OK......
The reason I did it this way was because I suspected that I was trying to install everything all at once and/or an install of Geo's CFW was not clearing properly....
Dunno if I was right just know that now it's working, so all those with black screen probs, this might be a fix for you aswell......

@all: my sound problem seems to be solved.
just played with the audio settings a bit...turned on Multiple AudioOut (dunno the correct english name...) and now the noisy sound is gone.

Hi,
I went from OFW 3.55-> Wmeaw CFW
Then intalled lvl2 and multimanager
Ran lvl2
I can't seem to get blu rays to work. I tried:
--loading from multimanager and then selecting the dsic
--" " and then selecting the launch folder
--launching regularly
I get errors each time. I have a chech-2001a
Anybody have any ideas?

Ok so, I've downloaded LittleBig Planet and I've played a couple of lvls and then I decided to update the game to 1.30 (ok before FTPing the game to the HDD I've seen 2 folders: PS3_GAME and PS3_UPDATE and I've tried to figure it out how to install that update from the folder but couldn't do it).How do I install the game update from that folder I mentioned? Does anyone have some ideas?

where you guys keep your backups hdd0/GAMEZ, hdd0/games, hdd0/games/omanxxxxx/, hdd0/LAUN .... ? does it matter really? as I know backup manager options can be modified (ok except open manager) to search games in the different directories.

Successfully installed CFW 3.55, LVL 2 and Rogero.
Everything works but Rogero will still not play games from the HDD. Grant you, I've only tried two games that I own; backed up Williams Pinball and Hot Shots Golf. They load from the disc fine, but through Rogero they will not.
Not asking for help or anything, just letting people know, its a pain. I not giving up tho, I dunno the model of my slim off hand but its a 120GB slim.

Black screen problem on my cech2504B (320gb). I successfully install lv2.pkg, then I go to either multiman or rogero.
with rogero, it seems that there is a problem with eboots, as I get a notice which ask if I want the program to fix it (I get that with pes11). With heavy rain, which I copied just now, I don't get that notice. On both cases though, I go back to XMB, start the game from the blu-ray icon and then I get the black screen. And yes, I have checked the br-required button.
With multiman same thing happens (there doesn't seem to be any br-required button, right?). I answer no to the "do you want to launch the game right now?" question, go back to the XMB press the blu-ray icon and I get the black screen. With multiman some games get me by themselves back to the xmb.
One more thing. My tv switches automatically the resolution. So, when I get the black screen, it changes from 1080p to 720p, as it would normally do.
Any ideas?

did you modify the eboots previously when you were on a lower firmware to get these games to work try using a normal eboot for the specific game and uninstall any previous game data that you currently have for that specific game

i have succesfully installed kmeaw cfw 3.55 and downloaded the latest patch for need for speed hot pursuit from ps3 brewology and installed via the install pkg tab but when i load the game it still asks me to download/install latest patch to play online.
if someone could shed some light ...that would be great.

ive been trying to make the cfw following instructions but......
when i try bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3CFW.PUP patchfile it says bspatch not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file anyone know why i havnt downloaded a prepatched one cause i dont trust

One interesting note, nba2k11. On launch it always brings up a ps3move screen. It still did that in this case, and then went to the black screen.

Well I take back my earlier post, to a point. Williams Pinball still would not work. HSG does work, but it needed the original disc to run off the HDD, just as loading point only tho. Attempting others.
This may be a noob question or a repeat one, please do not ban me if this was asked, but we still can't run PS3 games off an external drive? I honestly have a lot going on, I just didn't have time to look the answer for myself yet, so again I sincerely apologize if it offends anyone.

it worked for me ofw-)geofw install the newestmultiman with pp suport-)wutangsfw-)geofw when you boot install lv2pkg launch it you will have to do this everytime you turn on ps3 till a bm has it open multimanager backup games you need a bluray bd to be in the drive when playing backups done. successful with 60gb cecha01 launch model. medal of honor online play nba 2k10 madden 10 hope it works for you. funk the world lol

I'm currently on 3.41 and thinking of updating
Just two questions:
When updating from ofw 3.55 to this cfw through recovery mode, will all data on the int hard srjve be erased?
I'm currently using open manager 2.1(unsigned of course), is there any reason why i should shift to multi man? And will switching to multi man mean I would have to relocate games on my int HD to a different path?
And sorry but here's an extra question:
Should I update now or wait for something better? It seems that this cfw still has some kinks that need to ironed out( black screens, pots not wanting to install, etc.) or do these problems have more to do with user error?

Does Genplus work for this? So far I am just getting an error, I extracted the genplus and associated directories to the root of a USB stick on USB 1. The readme is a bit confusing, it says root of dev_usb000, the first port on the right. WTF does that mean?

I've did it normally without format got everything working
BUT i decided to go for a clean install so i removed the disk i putted on my pc i formated it to ntfs and putted it back again then the black screen came up telling me to push ps button then the system reformated the disk and pressed start select after i loaded an usb stick storage in the first usb port then says preparing for update reached 100% the system restarted and went me back to the press ps button to continue screen did that couple of times got the same result plz help thanks :D

i decided to clean install everything from the begining. so what i did is
removed the ps3's storage disk and putted it into my pc to format it
did the format ntfs and putted the hard disk back to ps3
started the ps3 and got the black screen "press ps button to continue" and did that
i had loaded before the original 3.55 firmware into a usb stick under the file PS3/UPDATE/
pressed start and select and the system formats the HDD
after that it asked me to press again start and select with a loaded firmware 3.55 or later so i put the usb stick on the 1st usb port and letting it do the job
it reached the 100% then restarted and i faced again the black screen which asks me to push ps button to continue and then on the upper screen i read... the the system could not start and above press start select to install update etc etc...
cant get it working tried 4 times if you can help me i would be glad

I had that problem when geohot's CFW came out. It turned out that I just had a bad version of the firmware. Try redownloading it and/or uncompressing it and load it up again. Good luck!

@DOS659 - just try with the OFW PS3 firmware again, re-download and delete your current copies. Get that working and then install Kmeaw. With everyone patching FW's left right and center it's likely they might get mixed up.

Fixed my blackscreen problem. I started from scratch, redownloading all the files and going through all the steps from step 0. Working for me now, at least for FIFA, which is the only one I have tried so far.

.....Orrrr....you could just use Waninkoko (if your PS3 is supported) and install Rogero Manager that has been signed for it. Not only do Geohot's signed PKGs work but regular 3.41 homebrew works as well. No problems for me whatsoever. 3.41 -- 3.55 Official -- Geohot's JB -- 3.55 Official -- 3.55 Waninkoko. The only thing I lost was DVD and Blu Ray playback directly from XMB but it still works via MultiMAN. Cheers.

I followed the guide on this thread and it worked fine as I said in a previous post. Games are working from internal and external, played GT5 from internal and black ops from external using Rogero manager.
I have a bit of a problem with the lv2 patcher, sometimes when I run it, I don't get anything just a black screen and the PS3 On/Off button stops responding, I have to remove the power cable to turn it off. PS3 works fine after a reboot, just the lv2 patch seems to be 50/50 if it works or not...
I did not do the geohot jailbreak patch, is that required? It's not in the tutorial and pkg files install fine.

Hello.
I tested this with my CECH-2003A (SLIM 120GB).
Works flawlessly with no issues so far, Blu-ray, movies, DVD, backups, etc.
(If you can't play Blu-ray movies, make sure that you don't have the lv2 patcher up, just restart the console and give it a go again.)
I followed the tutorial (great tutorial!), installed via recovery menu, started up fine so I installed the lv2 patcher and gave it a go.
Done and back to the XMB. Tried some emulators (yay homebrew!!) works fine with Mednafen or with FCEU PS3.
Also tried Rogero Manager and tried backing up with my own retail copies. 'Soul calibur IV' and 'Dead Space' so far. I must say that I'm really pleased with this CFW.

Custom firmware installed gr8 on my 60 GB CECHG03 ps3 that would of bricked if i had of installed Waninkoko's cfw...
also updated from 3.41 to stock 3.55 then installed cfw through recovery mode as would not work through xmb said i had the newest update already.

Ok so please forgive me if I overlooked it but could not find this answer anywhere. Using Rogero BM Manager can I just ftp the games over that I have a backup of on my pc? You know, if i have the BLUSXXXXX folder with all the contents on my ps3 in the hdd0/game folder, and a backup on my pc, will Rogero BM Manager see them or do I need the actual game and put it in the ps3 and let Rogero BM Manager put it in its own format? Is anyone else having intermitent freeze up in the xmb? Some times the ps3 will just lock up and freeze. Have to hard re-boot it (turn off power on back). Also noticed that [PROTOTYPE] ask for update now and won't work. I am on fat ps3 original CECHA and the cfw applied fine. I did have to patch from recovery but no brick. So far things are ok except for the freezing up and I have to go through all my games to make sure things are good. At least I know COD World at war and COD Black Ops are both working. Batman Arkam Asylum locked up so i deleted gamedata and am reinstalling it. I think some of my issues my be since i had all these working on 3.41 with jb dongle and gaia patched the sfo's and such. NOw i need to put the originals sfo's back on and such.

installed fine, but my ps3 gets frozen randomly sometimes after executing lv2 thing. Probably doesn't do very good for the hardware when you have to hard boot the thing sometimes by unplugging it.

Installed with no problems at all on a phat 60gig upgraded with 120gig HD (CECHC03) UK (256 nand)
PSN Connected ok
Could not get Rogero BM Manager v7.8 to copy games to internal hard drive. error opening file - fatal error.
Tried Multiman - NFS Pro Street - direct boot - no need to go to XMB - updated game online ok - connected to EA nation fine - played online
Multiman - Heavy rain - copied ok, will not direct boot - needs XMB boot - updating online now - so I presume it will boot??
so far so good.
What are the chances of being banned off PSN? any ideas? not that I would mind that much as I dont play online as rule anyway.

1. Rund lv2 patcher first. You only need to run it once after power off/on.
2. Make sure there is an original disc in the drive (Does not have to be the same game).

if you are having trouble with backups black screening,you need to fix permissions,make sure to delete any game data for that game and have a unmodified backup,nothing worked for me until i worked this out,also run the lvl 2 pkg first,not sure if you have to run lvl2 pkg every boot,but it wont hurt if you do.treat this like a propper firmware that needs no messing with eboots,etc and you will get your head round it quicker,its just the same as a retail ps3 but running your games from hdd instead of disk.there is also a new version of the lvl2 patcher around so google it,its version 1.2 and is more stable.here ive uploaded the v2 lvl 2 patcher for you.

I originally had waninkoko's jailbreak and was using multiman and regero v7.8 but they only played 1 game of the 3 I backed up.
I tried to create custom eboots etc but always got errors
I gave this a try and it has booted every backup I have done.
This is how I did it (all from XMB) started with waninkoko cfw then deleted all game data (not save game data)> 3.55OFW>3.55wutangrzaCFW then inatalled lv2.pkg then installed regero v7.8.
Run Lv2.pkg on system start up EVERY TIME to use backup manager successfully!
Once in regero load game from hdd, will take you back to XMB insert any genuine PS3 disc into disc drive and you will notice the disc will show, but not the game on the disc, it will show the game loaded via rogero BM. Launch it and game will then load, any game updates are ok to download and install and game will still play! Have fun!

Ok, for those having trouble you might want to try this. I installed the CFW following the instructions and only the games on my External drive work, all the games on my internal drive give me a black screen. What you need to do is fix the permissions using this pkg.

I have a CECHA 60GB PS3 and when I try to install it brings up a red screen saying a serious error has occurred and PS3 has to have power removed and hard drive removed and reformatted in order to fix!

Not sure if I can help stxbox360, I am waiting on 3.41 also.
But you should be able to run GT5 (without updating the game to v1.05) on 3.41. Have you tried the "PL3_FIX" homebrew app?

how are u running gt5 on 3.41, are u running the origional game (cant be cause it prompts u to update to 3.5) is it patched and how i have e3 dongle and have never even used yet cause im playing gt5, if i could get it to play on e3 w/3.41 i would just do that til something more stable comes out thanks

All working good. Cept any game That i had a modified eboot.bin. They wont play just black screen. Replaced eboot with original and still same effect. This happens on all my 3.50 games Gran Turismo 5 NFSHot, Splatterhouse. I know its something i am doing wrong just dont know what

Gran Turismo 5 is working fine for me, even the online mode.
What i did:
- Replace "eboot.bin" with original (mine had the modified one)
- Split "GT.vol" with OpenSplit
- Copy game to External HDD
- Open "Rogero Manager" , copy game to Internal HDD (it will join the files)
- Run the game
- Install lastest patch
- Enjoy

Went from Geos -> OFW -> THIS. On 60gig FAT Launch. SUCCESSFUL.
My only game I have on ps3 is being borrowed so I havnt got to test the bckup, but im sure it works due to all the success stories. THANKS DEV! And Pirate for the tutorial for a noob like myself.
Also i tried to play a bluray and i got the 800 etc.. error, i just shut down and repowered and it was fine. Not sure if its cuz i ran the L2 pkg or not, i just ran it to see what would happen (1st timer). So not sure if thats a conflicting issue or just that i needed to reboot after all the updates :D

cfw works fine on 60gb phat ps3, but having one problem, i run the patch but it seems like everytime i turn off ps3 and then put it on, the managers dont work... I checked on here but couldnt find anything, do you have to run the patch pkg, everytime you turn your ps3 on?

I have a slim 120gb, cech2001a. Installed straight from 3.41, worked like a charm, have tried uncharted 1 and 2 and both worked fine, netflix works, psn works, downloaded 2 demos to check, and both worked. no problems, using 640gb external HDD, i want to try upgrading my internal drive to larger, so all i need to do is find out how to do that and keep this CFW and i'll be peaches. Thanks to the devs for a great set of tools!

Im using Rogero BM Manager v7.8 for my backups (Of games that i own) all games updated to the latest versions, all online working (Tested fifa and gt5) i also have NBA JAM to test, but im sure that will work too.
I used these steps
Insert game
Backup to HDD
Run lv2 patcher
Run game through XMB (No disc installed)
???

Updated from 3.41 on 250gb slim model. Works like a charm. Tried multiman and rogero. Fifa starts up fine, checked GT5 twice but got blackscreen. Did not try with dics in bluray drive tho, that might be the problem or should I put the original eboot back in? It used to work on 3.41. Many thx for the tutorial and everyone else who made this possible. Who wants a PS3key?

For everybody having the black screen problem, this worked for me.
1. Delete the game updates using the Game Data Utility.
2. Delete the GAME_UPDATE folder from your backup (if you backed it up before you deleted the game updates)
3. Launch the game from your backup manager and reinstall the updates.

what file type is what needs to be on the HDD to play. ISO? Right now i have LBP2 and its actually a folder instead of ISO and inside it has 2 folders BCUS98245 and PKGs. And the folders keep going on from there. How do i get it to play and be recognized by the ps3?

@ps3er all you have to do is in your usb name a folder GAMES inside that folder name the game folder what the ID GAME is
for example x:\GAMES\BLES00669\ then open up ROGERO and it should work
if u have ROGERO MANAGER it has options to PLAY LOAD COPY STUFF LIKE THAT

Everything's working 100% (thanks to everybody involved in making this happen) with the exception of the FTP server(s). I have tried to ftp into my PS3 for the last hour with no luck. I have tried every backup manager with FTP capabilities with no luck. Is there a newly packaged ftp server app that works with this latest CFW? I would greatly appreciate any help. It's driving me crazy. Thanks.

Ok I did every thing to a "T" from the TUT, but when it came to installing the
3.55 CFW FROM MY "2GB HP FLASH DRIVE" MY PS3 WOULD NOT AN COULD
NO FIND THE UPDATE. When it was just working FINE UPDATING from 3.41 to
3.55 OFW.
So I then I tried my Portable HARD DRIVE its a "60GB TOSHIBA" with the 3.55
CFW, an IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM.
So if you are haveing trouble UPDATING to the 3.55 CFW try a DIFFRENT J
UMP DRIVE OR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE.
I had a good scare there for an good 10-13min.

Works good, hated having to do the usb break ****. I noticed the CFW is a bit unstable with my Launch PS3. But overall was acceptable and with a bit of work, i think the CFW scene is going to be a ton better than the PSP CFW stuff.
In the future i'd love running games and stuff off an alternative to Game OS.

Working perfect followed the tutorial to the letter And found this torrent called PS3 Files (search for it on isohunt or some torrent engine so you can download precomled Custom firmware).
Im downloading from psn right now does anyone know how i recover my god of war save data??
i Only use multiman and i installed over 3.41 multiman I already had AVCHD movies and games installed to Internal and it didnt erase anything. Just had to get rid of my snes emulator.
Gotta fix the games though and find an eboot for 3.55 for all my games.
Already got a bunch of 3.55 PSn games alreardy configured for 3.55
gonna try to install them now and make sure all my games and movies work.

Up and running for me. All my 3.41 backups are playing in rogero...
Having hard time signing into PSN... it usually will but times out quite often.
Using open network but about the same signal as usual.

someone say don`t working with rogero install Games to internal HDD.
Install FTP and connect to PS3 on internal HDD must a Folder:
dev_hdd0/game/OMAN46756/GAMEZ press select in Rogero and you see the path.

I have a question.
Where can I find the most recent LVL2.PKG?
I only ask because I have seen THREE diffrent ones floating around.
ONE FOUND HERE: lv2.pkg = 122KB
2ND ONE I FOUND: lv2-v2.pkg = 91KB
3RD I FOUND: FIX_PERMISSIONS_Waninkoko_Kmeaw_CFW_3.55.pkg = 100KB
The one posted above in the TUT an two more others.Each one varies in size.
So again I ask...

alrite i need some help..no backups are running..everything is fine until i launch the backup from the xmb. i went from ofw 3.55 to kmeaw cfw 3.55 and it installed properly..installed rogero BM and backed up mw2 ..i ran the lv2 pkg and everything was fine..after i run the cd which shows the backed up game...just a black screen..i can't even quit to xmb i have to hold power button and then it beeps once and then twice and turns off...COULD ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME!?

Yea thats the one in the "TUT". I just want to be using the MOST recent one.
But its working so far no problems what so ever, so I can wait till its just updated an posted or its just gets implemented in to the mangers.

UPDATE:
If your having black screens popup while playing a game via BM then chances are you have an issue with "file permissions" in your internal HDD. To fix this, download THIS pkg file into your Flash Drive or External HDD, and install it, run it once, the screen will go black and then it'll go back to the XMB, then you should be able to run all your games properly.

A helpfull hint I offer all of you.
DONT INSTALL GAME DLC (GAMES UPDATES ARE OK) AFTER YOU RUN THE LVL2 PATCH, RATHER INSTALL THE DLC BEFORE YOU RUN THE LVL2 PATCH.
Because every time I tried to install any DLC for any game after I ran the LVL2 Patch is would say 100% Done but would freeze as soon an I hit X.
So I tried it before I did the LVL2 PATCH an it worked.
So its just a F.Y.I.

Hi guys, I installed everything correctly. The only problem I am having is running my old backups from 3.41 . They don't seem to work, I installed the lv2.pkg before running the backup manager. I keep getting the black screen. I backed up king of fighters 12 to my external hdd and it loaded fine with a disc inside. Do I have to get the original copy of the game and back up every game?

Hey Bruvs! I took a day off to do this.. so excited!lol. I need some reassurance please I'm on ofw 3.41 with dongle, I followed the tutorial and created the patch file but I'm a bit confused when you mentioned about md5. I read this guide and installed it, the guide says you can't play a game without a disc, but you can, I use GAIA manager and when I use L1 to turn on without disc and return to the XMB (without disc inserted) the game doesn't appear as a disc BUT if I run */app_home/PS3_GAME the game launches fine!

for all those who have bluray playback issues donot use the lv2 patch and then play them i have tried this and it works for those who use gaia simply turn off and then turn back on the turning off and turning on applies to both methods

Aceface1818 (Great name by the way) you firstly need to fully reinstall regular 3.55 Official Firmware, then patch the 3.55 with the CFW patch and install, then install the lv2 patch, no geohot required!

I just installed the CFW which went fine, after install I ran the lv2.pkg (after every boot) but I can't boot Rogero manager, it just gives me a big ol' black screen which makes my powerbutton unresponsive.
I'm also not having any luck finding a working FTP server for the PS3 so I can transfer games again.
Could anyone help me out? Considering it's pretty crowded in this thread I'd appreciate a PM the most but I'll take any help.

It worked, but when i try to load a game trough multiman, the game doesn't load?
I still see the original disc inserted in the ps3 instead of Black Ops loaded trough miltiMAN, when i go back to XMB?

So once you have CFW 3.55 on the PS3 the dongles that we have been using don't work anymore for our PS3? along with all the apps we've used on 3.41?

Installed the whole thing last night by following the steps to the letter. The only weird thing that happened was that, for the first time ever, I had to install all FWs from recovery. I have a fat 40G PS3 (with a BD non-player courtesy of PSDOWNGRADE, at least until I can get access to a BD-ROM drive to retrieve the "MKB_RO.inf" to my Half-Blood Prince 2-disc special edition) which I believe is a large NAND model. Ran Alien vs. Predator with no issues, but got a black screen after the update dialog for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (both from external HD using Rogero). However, that's exactly the same result I had for both games back when I was running PSJAILBREAK on 3.41, so it seems whatever didn't work then doesn't work now (yet). I might post some more results later.
I also want to thank all PS3 homebrew developers for giving us back the right to use our purchased consoles however we want to. This rocks and is an important statement in the digital rights debate. Lets hope the legal battles are won.

I have installed the Gaia, Rogere and Multiman managers, and only Gaia is able to load the game ( Star wars TFU2 and others).
I have installed the CFW using the tuturial, also installed the FIx game permissions. I only get a black screen, when i try to load a game. When i try to open Rogero manager, i also get a black screen?

I have e question. I have an external drive , WD MyBook 1.5 TB. It has only NTFS partitions, will it be good ? Can i copy games into it , or do i have to have FAT32 partition ?
And one more question. When i DL game i have to DL special signed EBOOT and replace it , right ? After this i copy the game to my external hdd and i'm good to go ?

Yes, i have tried the patch before running the game, the screen remains black. It's with al the games i have tried. And also not all the backupmanagers are working with the CFW

hi can someone please help i have 2 ps3s 1 is a fat one that ive had about 3 to 4 years now the other one is a slim 160gb cech-2503a which i got in december ive just checked them they both have 3.55 on them will i be able to downgrade any of these 2 with out any problems so i can backup games to them if so which one would be the best one to do i have a ps3 break v1.2 but not sure what else i need to do all of this

I'm using this method with the new gaia manager and all games work fine.
Before i was using 3.41 jb so my games were allready on internal hdd. Some games (black ops) would not boot because they had a patched eboot. Found an easy way to get them to work:
- delete game update (if there) from xmb
- run game, it will ask to update, choose yes
- update will now overwrite eboot and game will start
- some games dit not ask for update so i downloaded the .pkg for those
updates and installed them manually

I'm experiencing some problems with the cfws. Firstly, when I switch to the ingame xmb while in any homebrew app (f.e. Emulators), the xmb loads for about 2 seconds and then the ps3 freezes, forcing me to hardreset it. This happens with both geohots and kmeaw's firmware. Is this a common problem with the signed homebrew apps or is it just happening to me?
Secondly, when I try to start the lvl2 patcher (i've tried every available version) or load a game from the new gaia manager (with lvl2 patching), after about 5 seconds of blackscreen, my ps3 freezes, forcing a hardreset.
I've tryed every possible variation of installorder, testing checksums of everything, with and without geohots patch applied and reinstalling everything a couple of times with no notable result. I'm using a fat launch ps3, 60gb. Please give me some advice.

I've been following the news about Gaja 2.0 today and a lot of people are complaining about problems with the new Gaja manager. I think we are at version 2.02 now (psx-scene server has a lot of troubles today so difficult to follow atm) and it still has problems and it doesn't hide that you are running homebrew.

For the black screens, try if there is an update available (with Another New Update Software or another program that does the same), download the update pkg to your computer and install it from an usb flash drive on your PS3. Do not use the lvl2 patcher before the install.
This way I got some of my games (GT5, Black Ops, RDR) running without re-ripping them to the HD. I think the Eboot.bin's were causing the problems and the updates have new Eboot.bin's.

@furys-wrath - I would use the older fat model, that way if you do brick it at some point you have the newer model. The old fats use more power and generate a lot more heat than the slims, another reason.

Working on SLIM 160GB CECH-2511A. Playing online CoD BlackOps!!. And yes!! you can update the game directly from internet!!! AWESOME!!.
But!! I'm unable to play Sega Master Drive Collection! Any Ideas?
I have tried all of this so far:
1. Quick Format.
2. Fix Permission PKG.
3. Boot Directly On (without going thru XBM)
4. Boot Directly Off.
And im unable to pass the blackscreen!!! Any ideas? I'm about to try Gran Turismo 5.

I was just thinking about how Sony would know if a PS3 was jailbroken or not?
Do any of these jailbreaks mask IP addresses making the console untraceable?
And if they were to be traced or a new update released to, 3.60 for example, how easy would it be for the devs to re-jailbreak?
As far as I understand, this type of jailbreak is only fixable via hardware upgrade (ps4 for example)
Could somebody clear this up for me please

SUCESS! 120GB Slim! jailbroken 3.41 ---> Kmeaw 3.55 CFW
installed gaia manager V2.01 and booted GT5 WITHOUT DISC! and no problems!
BTW GT5 was installed fresh in 3.41 (no files modification)
OH! i dont think i install the file permisson fix (lol i cant remember)
Black ops and online too!
Black ops: External( with disc[GT5 disc] + lastest update)
GT5: Internal (no disc)

i cant get Need For Speed Hot Pursuit to back up internally. it says

imagine what speed up we could get with 1 more spe an the RSX enabled + full ram acces + no hypervisory slowing it down

I seriously doubt they could trace you, sony just likes to scare people.
After all, the games you have are legal, you bought them, so I think you should be able to do what you want with them. If you want to put backups on your ps3, then you should be allowed to.
It seems like sony won't be able to fix the jail break anyways you can tell by their actions, and by the way they're acting.(sue happy) I read somewhere in an article, that sony said the jail break is irreversible(Meaning I don't think they'll be able to fix it.)

This works great and was really easy. I have to admit that I was afraid at first after reading about all the bricks. Worked on my CECH-2501A NTSC. Logged onto PSN without issue. Only tested RDR, and GT5. Both worked. I am now looking forward to an already patched multiman because it is the best BM IMHO. Great tut.

well it worked for me.. but sadly heavy rain and nfs dont work, both freeze on black screens, and i can almost guarantee sony will have our consoles banned soon.
any fixes for these? i already deleted my game data for heavy rain and couldnt find any installed for NFS, no fix still, tried with mm loader and gaia, of course with lv 2 patcher

I've played Borderlands online and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood online so all is good.
Problem is now when I load up Black Ops I get the BLACK SCREEN the update folder was alrdy deleted so what else can I do to fix this black screen issue? (I had game working back when I was still using the usb dongle on 3.41) but now when I load the game, it just black screens and locks up.
I remember that there was one file I had to edit order for it to play making it think the ps3 3.55 I forgot which file it was, I don't know if this is whats causing the problem but I don't see why it would since that is what I'm on now.
How do I fix this and Its Just For This Game Only.

none of my backups are working, i tried cod4 assasin's creed and mw2, all of them just to the black screen, i even tried using the fix file permissions but no luck. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP? the cfw installed properly and im using gaia manager and everything is fine until i actually launch the backup, the cd even shows the backup game. PLEASE HELP!

I am Trying this all out but when i try to update to original it gives fault that it corupted i tryed all different versions 3.55 from net but did not work and and when i try to go in recovery many and try to update it shows me update needs 3.56 or later version so that means i cant do this HELP ME out i am noob in this...

Ok, I have a simple question that I don't seem to see an answer to in any or the over hundred posts. Will this allow my 3.41 PS3 to play 3d blu rays after I install the CFW? I have a 73 inch 3d TV and I havent updated my PS3 for obvious reasons but if I can do everything I did in 3.41 and play 3d movies I'll do this in a heartbeat. Better than buying a solo 3d blu ray player for $300plus.

Google it and you will see what I mean, but it seems to revolve around the HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 standards as that is a two way thing between player and TV set and the problem appears to be that both pieces of kit are waiting for a signal from the other before they activate the 3D engine.

I have a 60GB First run and my friends 40gb 3rd run PS3
I just want to say both keep hanging when using Kmeaw. I have yet to be able to play a backup game.
I tried Wutangz and that one works 100%
Only bad things of Wutangz is that it needs any PS3 Game to launch backups because it, sadly, doesnt have the "/app_home/PS3_GAME/"
So for people with FAT ps3 that are having issues or just want to play it safe, I recommend Wutang + Geohot + GAIA Manager over Kmeaw.
EDIT: Just found a problem with my Wutangz, it plays internal HD games perfect, but it doesnt read Assasins Creed from my external. I get black screen.
I really did want Kmeaw to be better as that one works with unsigned .PKG such as the 1.13 multiman.

once dl click on MD5 and browse which file u wanna check then when you done that click on calculate MD5 checksum then go back to the site and copy&paste

Ok i m thinking of trying this custom firmware out def want online capability back. first off ps3 is CECHH01. is that ok.
Now if i have problems am i able to some how go back to 3.41 or is that it i m done. And if i am successful in this upgrade will my games still work.
These are downloaded backups not self made backups with original disc. will they work. do i just need to get an untouched eboot and then modify the param to 3.55.
Also i have the snesx emulator a nes emulator and a arcade game emulator called fbanext. will those all still work.
last question i have some previously downloaded psn titles i never got too that i d like to play eventually. will those work.

running on kmeaw and gaia manager 2.02 with original eboot, for black ops but when i go to load it from the xmb all it does is black screen and then back to xmb, anyone know what im doing wrong? i use to have it jb 3.41 with modified eboots but then deleted the modifed and reinstalled the original eboot but still nothing..

it says: an error occurred during operation (80010009) and returns to xmb.
tried GAIA2.02,and newest multiman. happens on both.
what can i do to fix it?

Dammit i just tryed to get back to the orginal firmware in recovery mode and the normal XMB but it sayes that is has the latest firmware. Eney idea to get back to the orginal firmware?

hi all got everything working installed Kmeaw with multiman manager now the games i rip from discs all play fine but wanted to try GT5 before i go buy it so d/led atax one ftp'd it to ps3 hdd0/GAMES it shows in manager but then black screens that i cant get out of
when i do a check on the files all games are the same ecept gt5 which says it has 1 split vid could this be the problem ?.

also ive tried to ftp over a few PSN games to same directory which dont show up in manager and ones that just have a PKG file i install via usb but they wont load either
ive used the permissions PKG with no effect

I had a few games that wouldn't work. I deleted the game data via xmb and reinstalled them. ALL of my games work now with multiman.

If your having black screens popup while playing a game via BM then chances are you have an issue with “file permissions” in your internal HDD. To fix this, download THIS pkg file http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?...#axzz1BYJQfWgm into your Flash Drive or External HDD, and install it, run it once, the screen will go black and then it’ll go back to the XMB, then you should be able to run all your games properly.

I know everyone had them and i do to . Maybe my problem is a bit more annoying because when i try to run/load the lv2 patcher through the XMB it will give a black screen after about 10 minutes i powered off my PS3 because nothing happens if anyone can help me with this problem please tell me because my blu-ray drive wont suck cds in???

use the latest version of lv2 patcher its lv2patcher version 4 and what you have to do is run the lv2 patcher first then run the back up manager and then the game

I will perform the CGW Installation this afternoon once I get back from work.
What I wanted to know, since no one mentioned them here are the following.
- Is there a way to reverse the Χ and O buttons?
- Is there a way to change the region of the DVD/BD drive?
- How do you use an external drive to run backups? Some games have files larger then 4 GB, which is the maximum possible size for a file on a FAT32 volume? Is there a way to make the PS3 recognize NTFS drives?

I been looking for some emulators for kmeaw 3.55 cfw since the ones that I had for 3.41jb stopped working after I updated to this cfw I thought this was suppose to work with singed and unsigned pkg. i have taken the time and set up the PS3UPDAT.PUP and added LV2 patcher and multiman so all you need to do its unrar and copy direct to USB drive and away you go :D u can check the PS3UPDAT.PUP out if you like using MD5 checker

I have fixed the persissions, it will just not change the disk. I'm not getting any errors. I even tried to FTP it into the PS3. Loaded it from internal drive. Same issue.

Does anyone have problems playing regular movies or burnt movies. When I put a movie in nothing comes up and when I put a burnt movie a folder that says update comes up but it's empty. Besides that everything works fine I already have back ups so far every game works. Have not tried bluesy movies yet.

just go to system settings back up utility and sync trophies under game and put in the new hdd it will be fine the update will still be there all your psn accounts will still be there

This has allowed me to register and download stuff from the PSN with no problems. I haven't played any online games yet cos i've only just started using CFW as i've only just got a PS3 so i'm still learning a lot as it's not quite as simple as 360 or Wii softmodding!

I'm trying on a phat model which I've installed Kmeaw v1 then downgraded to use the 3.41/dongle hack (current status) and now that I want to put Kmeaw v2 I'm stuck.
Jadoo22, do you have a similar setup?
Interesting to note that I've done the same thing with 3 PS3's, all slim models, and they went just fine...
Anybody has a clue on how to fix this??

Anyone who downgraded his ps3 to the 3.41 fw stucked in that fw , but there's a solution and only need to have a dongle and official fw 3.40 and modifed lv2 files.First put the ps3 in service mode than put the fw and the lv2 diag files from the 1 folder to the root of the memory stick turn it up with the stick in the right usb port and wait to turn it off automaticly then erase the memory stick and copy the next file from the 2 folder to the root of the memory card and put the right usb, turn it on and wait 5minutes.After this you can upgrade the ps3 fw to 3.55cfw it works i tested.

When i am going to play god of war 3 from my internal hdd (place: hdd01/GAMEZ {I HAVE CREAT THIS FODLER GAMEZ}) with e.g multiman i go back to ps3 screen then i try to run it from last games at xmb screen and after a while before the game open it drops me again to the xmb screen, and with gaia and with rogero again again again at xmb screen!! omg
Please help me!!!
Also i have put quantum theory and i have the same issues, drop at xmb screen.
Note: when i try to play this games i have a blu ray game inside my ps3 drive, as it wanted.

edit- jackfrass, If you're done and working then you don't need to worry about verifying the md5. It's a way to ensure that what your installing at that point is legit and won't harm your system when you install it. You're up and running so you can disreguard. Future reference any time you see something asking you to verify the MD5 you simply run the program and compare the code given to what the guide states, also looking for any errors. Congrats on your mod!

Hi just a quick question. im lookin to buy another ps3 for offline purposes and jailbreak it. my friend has a ps3 for sale, really cheap because the laser has gone. I know that many apps games etc etc run off the hard drive but i read on the tutorial that some backup managers require you to have a disc inside the drive to run a back-up. Now my question is will this ps3 with damaged laser still forfil the requirements of running apps games etc off an external hard drive even if backup manager requires disk in the drive, or shud i buy a ps3 with a working laser.

Great reading here, lots of information (even though it took me over 2 hours to read it all!)
Im keen to do this upgrade but before I do I have a couple of questions:
1. I've heard that 3.55 CFW doesn't support non-sony peripherals, ie. I have a logitech wireless controller which I have been using successfully with 3.41 + dongle. Can anyone confirm if this is the case?
2. I am assuming that if you boot up the PS3 and not select lv2.pkg, then play TV will work OK. I noticed that when I jailbreak my PS3 with 3.41 + dongle, play TV does not work. If I boot it normally, it works OK. Is my assumption correct? Any of you guys running 3.55 CFW still use play TV OK?

Don't update or you will not be able to mod your PS3 possibly ever again. There are rumors of a possible 3.60 but it doesn't look promising. There is a 3.60 spoofer out that once installed you can get onto PSN for now until Sony updates their firmware again.

i installed this but i cannot see any game in rogero manager (or any other backup manager).
I have my games in /dev_hdd0/game, and it worked before, when i had 3.41 and used htc desire as a dongle .
Do i need to copy the games somewhere else now ?
I edited manualy the settings of several backup managers (rogerio, multiMAN, etc) to point to /dev_hdd0/game , but i cannot select the hdd tab in the manager.
What am i missing? Do the games need to be in another format ?

Hi, quick and simply questions for you guys.
I'm reading up on following this guide. I have all the files from the above tutorial but missing Step #3 file.
1) I read up on the post some more and noticed that his file is no longer needed with Multiman 1.14 and above. Is this correct?
2) Can I have more than one Game manager installed or only one at a time?
3) If I'm doing this method, Kmeaw 3.55 do I install multiMAN ver 1.16.11 BASE (20110322_170000).pkg or the multiMAN ver 1.16.11 BASE (20110322_170000) WT.pkg file? I'm assuming the first one. If so then I should install also the corresponding BDEMU-355KM.pkg file as well?

In the guide he says:

you install the pkg and a new icon appears in the game section which is a lv2 patcher.

I was at OFW 3.55 and I installed the kmeaw CFW. I have the install pkg icon on the XMB. I've tried loading different pkg files and everytime I get the message that there are no installable pkg files. I tried using a usb thumbdrive and a cf card with no luck.

use flashdrive formatted to fat32 and put the pkg files in the root of flashdrive.

The card is formatted to fat32 and there is nothing else on it. I made sure I dragged it straight over to the card so it isn't in a folder. It's the same card I used to load the cfw on the PS3. I keep getting the same message when I hit triangle and x. If I just hit x on the install pkg icon the screen doesn't display any files.

and you are sure you have a "pkg" file in root and not the pkg file in a rar/zip file.
I have never tried using a card, only USB drive so I don't know if it will look on the card at all.
try another flashdrive/ext hdd etc and see. also try other pkg files in case the one you have us corrupted

So far I tried different cards and three different usb drives. The third drive, a 4gb patriot usb worked. All cards/drives were formatted to fat32 and were installed prior to powering up the ps3. This one just happened to work. Thanks for your help I appreciate it.

what you have there are either rar files or an extracted game with split files.
if they are freshly stolen off the internet then you need to extract them using winrar or similar.
if it is already extracted. make a folder on USB called "gamez" then put your game folder in there such as "bluxxxxx"
then load up your manager, plug it in and press circle to copy it to your internal where it will rejoin for you

Hey guys, I'm a newb with ps3 jailbreaking so hopefully you can help me out... I installed kmeaws 3.55 hack and installed multiman and kmeaws lv2 v9 patch. It took me awhile but i finally figured out that we only needed to copy over 1 folder to the GAMES folder eg: BLES30255, etc... All games show up but they won't load. It just goes back to xml and has no game icon and whenever I go into the apps_home/ps3_games folder it gives me some error. Also tried the BDEMU fix on multiman 1.6 but even after the patch the BD emulator cannot be used error still comes up. Not sure if thats the root of the problem or if I'm missing a step? I know theres a step abotu shadow copying but I don't know exactly what that does and where to copy them from and to. Also I know there are payloads which I'm not sure if I need or not. Please if anyone can help me out I'll paypal some lunch money for the appreciation! lol thanks

I can see games that have been saved on internal harddrive in mulitman, load the game in multiman then it kicks me back to xmb load a bd game in, it reads as the game i picked in multiman. BUT when I click on the icon it goes black for a second flickers and then goes back to the xmb.....WTH!!!! I dont think im dumb.....but what cold my dumba$$ be missing?!?

I'm hoping someone can shed some light for me before I attempt to install new files and whatnot...First been reading this site for awhile now and have learned lots...I never registered cause I didn't own a ps3 till now and only cause what I've learned and read here...So my situation is this...I bought a ps3 that was modded for 120 as the bd-drive stopped working..Unfortunately this guys little bro did the modding and before this gentlemen brought it over he formatted hd...I can see the /app_home/PS3_GAME/ and install package files on the screen still but obviously does nothing...When I go to system info it just shows 3.55..When I used to have a psp it showed the cfw, now since the ps3 doesn't does that mean I should start a fresh install of kmeaw? Was about to start fresh just now, but though I should ask since my bd-drive is not working..

what level of not working are we talking about no bd movie playback? no blueray of any kind, or it won't load any disc cd\dvd and bd?

Thanks for the quick update unfortunately those files are deleted already...
I went ahead and installed multiman older version multiMAN v1 16 05 Full and when I try to start it it just displays a black screen...Would this mean I"m not on custom firmware, if so I'll try to search for patched firmware like you suggest

if you can install .pkg files (what you used to install multiMAN) you have a jailbroken firmware. as for the black screen on multiMAN after a fresh install it has to build it's database and this can take several minutes if i remember correctly

1. upgrade to original 3.55 (done in recovery)
2. upgrade to kmeaw 3.55 (done in recovery)
3. install lvl 2 patcher
4. install backup manager (rogero, multiman, gaia, ive tried all of these)
5. load game in backup manager
6. once back at the dashboard load bd game
7. click on bd game (that reads as game loaded from hdd)

Has anyone had their kmeaw355 cfw console suddenly not want to output at 1080p anymore? Have been running it fine for months then yesterday I turn it on and this happened. Can get up to 1080i but not p? Any ideas for a fix?

I'll tell you all I know: I NEVER used LV2 Patcher on Multiman. All I ever did was install Multiman with BDEMU.PKG and it ran perfectly. Reinstall Kmeaw, install Multiman, install BDEMU.PKG and try it WITHOUT LV2 Patcher.

At Step 01 (Download the required the files for CFW), there's a ~390mb file on zshare that have a patched 3.55 PUP, an original 3.55 PUP, 2 pkgs and a .DOC file with instructions.
When I finished reading this thread and read the DOC file, well, I assumed that most of steps here described were already taken (like patching the firmware, etc) and the user uploaded it.
So, is it ok to proceed with upgrade with the original pup then patch it with patched pup inside that file?

I have a problem (update - I solved it)
Here is my story:
PS3 Phat CECHE01 (US/ntsc) got when on holiday to US.
I followed the instructions exactly and I am having a problem :
result: flashing screen, like a TV with no arial. Sound is working as I can hear the PS3 starting sound.
What I did.
1) downloaded 3.55 OFW, md5 correct.
2) Patched pup and renamed modified pup - md5 correct.
Update via XMB, update from storage disk -> result: already with latest update.
I follow recovery mode update procedure:
3)Turn off PS3, wait for double beep -> wiredcontroller selected -> selected option 5 (update).
4)pressed select and start button together -> copy / installer completes to 100%.
result: flashing screen in cycles (could this be video sync/auth problem).
sometimes I can see something a second then gone.
sound is working
update1: I reverted back to OFW 355 - all xmb working correctly.
update2: tested with prepatched pup in link, same problem.
update3: Joined HDMI lead from PS3 direct to TV (please add this vital info at beginning of tutorial)
update4: Struggled to install pkgs, did'nt know all packages need be on root of storage disk.
I finally got to install PS3UAE !
I am a happy bunny. What can I do now. Where to start ? Install FTP server ? Hmm..

1: Install as many backup managers as you want. Be careful though, diff managers sometimes use different folders for storing your games and stuff.
2: Nah, just go for the most recent version.
3: Install multiMAN ver 2.00.04 BASE (20110606_124500) (without the WT at the end) and Multiman itself will be installed. Search for BDEMU2 on the forums, you will find a link within the last few days, install that too. Install any emulators you wish to have incorporated into multiman. You're good to go.
4: Unsure, I'd just get the BD drive replaced.
5: If you're able to jailbreak, then you just need to rock a USB drive for installing the CFW. After install, nothing is necessary. I think you're thinking of the old dongle method.
6: You don't necessarily need it, but I've found FTP useful for the PS3 in certain cases, like navigating the files/folders on the PS3 comfortably from my computer.
7: No answer I guess?
8: BDEMU is no longer required. Neither is LV2. Get BDEMU2. You'll be good.
9: If it's FAT32 it should work, but don't have one to try with.
10: Yes, you can delete, recopy, w/e you want. FTP is useful for this, but so are file managers. Multiman makes it pretty easy in and of itself. Hope that helps you.

@Electricguy: Your controller will work as a controller. No more, no less. The "jailbreak" is done by using a USB drive, be it a thumb drive, flash drive, pen drive, external hard drive, etc, not by the sixaxis controller. You'll still be able to use every feature of the controller mind you, so rumble does work, sixaxis works (I mean, as well as it was intended to work I guess? lmfao), and your analogs work no probs. But it sounded like you were implying you'd be using it to somehow crack your machine, which is not possible.
The extra stuff that comes with multiman, you can basically ignore that stuff. It's not for your average run-of-the-mill 3.55 users. It's used for modifying and resigning eboots for diff firmware versions, using the diff firmware keys. Don't worry about it. And the servgui is what the name implies, a server GUI. Haven't run it myself as I have no need. My Linux servers have all served me well thus far
And about the multiple folders used for diff managers, I was just saying that one manager might pick up your games list, but another one might look in the wrong folder and find nothing. Rogero and Multiman are both compatible using the folder layout: /dev_hdd0/GAMES/blus*****
so you shouldn't have any issues with either one. I have them both, so I can guarantee it works fine. Make sure GAMES is caps.
Oh and btw, that above layout is for internal. Externals just have the folder "GAMEZ" in all caps tossed into the root of the drive. x:GAMEZ/blus*****

As for your Q at the end, I'm not sure I am understanding... You bought the PS3, and it already had KMEAW on it? Did you buy it used? And if so, have you tried installing any pkgs? If all your CFW features are working, reflashing is pointless. If they AREN'T working, then check your patch version, and if it's still showing 3.55, then yes, reflash. Otherwise, you're likely boned.

Extract the kmeaw_cfw_lv2.pkg.rar folder and copy the original PS3 3.55 CFW (PS3UPDAT.PUP) inside the your folder

install multiMAN via pkg files then install bdemu2 and you are good to go.

ps3 hax mfw is this for 3.41? someone else told me bout this but i couldn't find it. unless this is the one that has an update under it saying there is a prob with it right now and not to use it

yeah i seen your link after i posted those questions. so you recomend that cfw over kmeaw? was getting ready to install kmeaw but if you recomend the other i will do that one as your more knowledgable than me with this

It really is up to you and what you want from it. As long as you follow the instructions you should have no problem and you can change if it isn't to your liking.
I personally was on Kmeaw for quite a while, but use Rebug now, and for me I see no need to change unless something I need comes up

QA only works on 3.55 and lower, from your other posts you are on either 3.66 or 3.70 so you are currently SOL

Hey Guys, when I am installing a .pkg file from a USB Stick does the .pkg have to be in a certain folder? Can you navigate anywhere you want to from "Install Package Files" option under the "Game" menu?

Hi everyone,
I followed the tutorial - it was really useful.
However, no matter which game I try running, I get a black screen (using either MultiMan or Rogero).
I've tried setting the permissions, running the black screen fix and erasing the game data files.
Any suggestions as to what I should look into?

did you download BDEMU2 and install it?
Multiman requires it and is a seperate download
Some games only run on a external drive and must have the BD mirror option in Multiman game settings...

I have BDEMU2 installed.
I'm running the games from the internal HD.
Also have an original disc in the drive.
I neglected to mention that before that I was using a dongle and the games that ran before don't run now.

That was probably it.
It seems that new games that I copy to the internal hard disk are working with no problem.

Wonder if someone could advise on my 40gb fat ps3 that was on stock 3.55 so have updated cfw 3.55 with multiman etc but when i run multiman and select either marvel vs capcom from hdd or kungfu panda2 from usb it looks like it is going to load but then jumps to ps3 main screen
any ideas on what i`m doing wrong

if that dont work make sure you have a disc in the drive and then go to the disc.

will give that a go and see how i get on but as for disc loading there is a fault with the disc drive (wont read discs) will this cause problems (should i replace the repair/drive)

But your console must came from factory with 3.55 or below.

But if it's CECH-3000, you're out of luck and your console can't be downgraded.
There's no CFW above 3.55, that's because you'll have to downgrade.
Jailbreak a PS3 is easier than softmod a Wii, but it's a little dificult to downgrade.

i also checked the lowest fw whats possible. as i posted its the 3.66 version!

Everything above 3.55 it's fake or spoof.
Unfortunately, you're out of luck, your console can't jailbreak neither downgrade to 3.55.
I recommend you to stay on 4.21, enjoy PSN and other stuff.
