• PS3 Hacks, PSN , 08.03.2011

Just to let you know, PSN will be down in the EU, tomorrow, so those of you using f**PSN, don’t worry, you aren’t doing anything wrong, so no need to make numerous threads regarding problems with that app, here is a quote from the source:

PlayStation Network is offline for scheduled maintenance from 16:05 on Wednesday 9 March 2011 until 03:00 on Thursday 10 March 2011, GMT.

During the maintenance, you will be unable to access the following services:

    * PlayStation Store on PS3 and PSP.
    * PlayStation Network Account Management.
    * PlayStation Network Account Registration.

In addition, you will not be able to sign in to PlayStation Network from eu.playstation.com. If you wish to play online during the maintenance, please ensure you sign in to PSN before 16:05 on Wednesday 9 March 2011.

During this maintenance, you can continue to collect in-game trophies and these will be updated on your profile once PlayStation Network is back up and running.

If you have any questions about this down time, feel free to visit the official PlayStation Forums at community.eu.playstation.com where you can post your query and a member of the moderation team will get back to you.

For the latest maintenance updates, visit the PlayStation Blog at blog.eu.playstation.com, keep an eye on our Facebook page at facebook.com/SonyPlayStation and follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/PLAYSTATIONEU.

Hopefully this is just to prepare for Firmware 3.60; they need to release that already so that all the people who have found hacks for 3.56 can release...none of them want to waste a good security hole on 3.56

Accepting blank consoleids was a huge mistake by $ony, not their first huge mistake as we know :P
But they're correcting everything they can, and this is by far the easiest thing to fix.
Most likely we will have to find a new way to bypass bans. (like a valid id generator for example)

I hope it is just in preparation for the new firmware....

That said I have a sneaky suspicion that F***PSN will cease to function afterwards....The fact the network itself will continue to function - it's just signup that won't be working might suggest it's the actual authentication part that's being updated? right?

Also quick Qn about CFM releases - Is there a technical reason that 3.56 CFWs haven't started being released? I thought when we had the master key it was total end game and there wasn't a lot sony could do to impede us....Have they done something clever?

I should say I'm not asking this from an impatient point of view - devs have lives and it takes as long as it takes. It's more intellectual interest - what has Sony changed? or is it just that there is little motivation presently given work arounds for new games have been found for 3.55 and F***PSN means that we can still get PSN access?

1.) 3.56 adds almost nothing to 3.55; there is the rootkit that they added (no one wants that), and a few games that need 3.56...and you can download those games for 3.55 if you are dumb enough to buy them only to realize that they don't work. (or you could just pirate them; normally I don't condone piracy...but if they want to prevent sales so much that they are blocking us from installing the retail version and the patches, then we wouldn't want to go against them by purchasing their games)
2.) Everyone was expecting 3.60 to get released a long time ago; 3.56 was not meant to be around this long. The day after we see a 3.56 CFW, 3.60 will get released...and the security hole they use will be known, patched, and useless. A few hackers have claimed to break 3.56 now; but none of them are releasing anything. Some claim it is to keep themselves out of court, but the real reason is that a 3.56CFW would be pointless.

Sony is just NOT prepared. They didn't implement as much checks as MS in they're Live! service. I've always had an impression that Japanese guys didn't quite catch the "online" gaming. They were always behind Americans in that matter. And, I AM NOT AN AMERICAN :-) I think that Sony trusted they're console security too much and they didn't prepare the service.

MS was more careful and they implemented as much checks as it was possible at the time of creating the service. They knew, that the console is made my serveral companys and there will be trouble (like the DVD Firmware customisation). But look at Live - it's still quite well protected.

I knew this was going to be a panic thread

Everybody who plays COD BO knows there are problems with PSN. I can't even get my NAT type "open" if I don't start COD MW2 first (ok, that might be a software problem). And if my NAT=open there are several connection lost problems a day. I assume the BO servers will also be looked at because PSN doesn't pass 800.000 users to the BO servers at that time so the BO servers can also be maintained. and besides that BO problems, downloading DLC's (not only BO DLC) isn't that fast also.

Sony doesn't take their whole network down, only part by part. Logged in users will be transfered to servers that keep working. Nothing to do with authentication but with the number of users the servers that are working can handle.

CFW 3.56 is only interesting for people who are at OFW 3.56. A CFW 3.55 user can do everything a OFW user can do so why CFW 3.56? and only PSN will never be the reason to jailbreak the latest OFW.
Also "we" don't have all keys, Geohot claims he has them. We only have a 3.55 key that, according to Geohot, was generated with this "masterkey".

So no panic people. We can't change anything so let's see first what will happen. I don't think there will change anything except better server traffic.
So far only cheaters are banned and I hope Sony keeps it that way. I am a normal (??) user who doesn't cheat and pays for all my games and my DLC's.

One question about payments to Sony (we know you read all our posts ), why do I have to pay € 14,49 for BO DLC if the US users have to pay $ 14,99. Is the exchange rate €-$ that bad these days? And is this the reason DLC's are region locked? So we can't use a cheaper DLC from another region?

from what I gathered it's due to taxes etc.
I know here in the uk we pay tax on everything we purchase in the price we pay.

I'll think that this major update from Sony also import a IP-check, based on the "IP-lists" they obtained from Google and Youtube.

that would not be fair really.

think about the people who are on orginal firmware and dont want nothing to do with custom firmware and then you go and grab there id and get it banned.

pointless for dynamic IPs and they cannot use the lists for any other thing than as evidence in geohots case.

Not a chance in hell. Those IP's were given in relation to an ongoing court case. If Sony use them in that way they will get sued by LOTS of people and lose every single case as even in US that's illegal..... Having said that, I do hope they try

I agree totally, but sadly it will happen. When F***PSN and similar first arrived, noone was sure if it did not use a valid ID, but they still used it

i think sony are doing something about hackers with this one, i mean they are actually going to shut it down to really get it working.

I think they may black list anonymous console id's or blank id's ... possibly implement more detection features.

funny how quickly sony react when their money is being lost, but when we want more features in psn they really don't care.

      (
Sony employer: Sorry boss, we are not allowed to compare the Geohot IP addresses to our PSN users IP addresses. Can't do.
Sony boss: F**k it, just don't tell anyone we did. We don't have to tell anyone why we kick them of PSN. Just tell them traces of CFW are detected on their PS3.
Just hypothetical but it is possible.

The decision of the judge to give Sony access to the list of all visitors of Geohot his site was very wrong. They don't care from witch region the visitors are, they wanted a scare tactics weapon and they got it from the judge.
But like i said before, till now Sony is very kind for us normal users and I hope it stays that way. I don't have a problem with cheaters being banned, they deserve it. But normal users who pay for everything and behave normally shouldn't be banned.
