• Graf_Chokolo Releases Update To Enable Service Mode From Linux

    PS3 dev graf_chokolo has managed to get Service Mode running on the PS3, via Linux, without the need for any of the Jailbreak Dongles.

    Guys, take a look at my ps3dm-utils.
    Now you can enable service mode from Linux icon smile Graf Chokolo Releases Update To Enable Service Mode From Linux
    Look at ps3dm_usb_dongle_auth

    Jess a member from the source confirmed that USB dongles were no longer needed to get into service mode:

    No you don´t need a dongle! You can invoke it from linux.
    Al the modules comunicate throught dm proxy.
    Now you can simulate a dongle through software and authenticate through linux.
    You can generate the challange and create the adecuate response

      No, it won't work on 3.56 because a jailbreak is needed to run linux > 3.15.

      And again, unless you know a lot about linux or are a dev this is nothing for the average Joe. Remember, experimenting with your PS3 can easily brick your PS3.

      This guy is AWESOME! He is being sued by sony but doesn't care and continues to release stuff. I wish I knew how to do the things these hackers do. But Graf is the best, he is the only person that is being sued that continues to release stuff. Whats happening with Team FlavorFlow. Did they give up and quit because of Sony sueing them? I haven't heard anything from them in months. And what happened to GeoHot, I know he's working on his lawsuit but he hasnt released anything eiter since he got sued. But Graf doensn't give a F*** which is why he is the best. I hope everyone donated to his legal fees. I know I did and I will again if he needs more. I love this Guy!

      This won't work on OtherOS it's an AsbestOS thing... So in theory any firmware you can jailbreak can run this. Also i wouldn't consider this a dev only thing, since if you know anything about linux you shouldn't have any problem using this. Good Work Graf, Still waiting on that bootloader too big guy.

      His question was if it would run on 3.56. As I stated, every FW after 3.15 needs a jailbreak for running Linux.
      And I think the kernel can be compiled for 3.15, haven't tested it though.

      and Linux for the PS3 can be used by everybody, playing with tools to change or to play with PS3 flash settings is another thing.

      No, you need lvl2 V9 patch to run it. BootOS will be installed on an external drive/disk.

      hmmm interesting, I was under the impression that the PS3 didn't have any... I wonder why an efuse isn't blown when you upgrade?

      Graf is my kinda guy, He stands by what he believes in even while under the kosh. I need to email him but I have no idea how to contact him. I have 2 PHAT PS3's with the TSOPs off and Id like to be able to add *.selfs etc into the merged files so I can reprogram them. Or Im willing to do hands on hardware hacking. If a mod could pass on my information and ask if he would email me.

      Anyway, awsome work Graf!!
