Last week we reported here, that EU customs were forced to seize any PS3 consoles, shipped through the Netherlands, it seems matters have got worse for Sony, The Guardian reported yesterday(9th March), that Customs are now seizing consoles from peoples homes, here is a quote from the source:

Dutch police have seized several thousand PlayStation 3s at Sony’s biggest European warehouse in the latest stage of its acrimonious patent battle with LG.
LG has won a court order enabling it to seize all new PS3 across the Netherlands – including those already in Dutch homes – in a dispute that centres on Sony’s allegedly infringing use of Blu-ray technology belonging to LG.
The injunction means that LG is tightening the net on PS3s in Europe, having already ordered customs officers to seize thousands of the consoles last week.
Sony will fight to have the blockade lifted at an emergency hearing in the Hague’s civil court of justice tomorrow.
LG argues that Sony PS3s infringe a number of its patents relating to playback of Blu-ray discs. The Korean company has been granted an investigation into the PS3′s Blu-ray use by the US international trade commission, after seeking a “permanent exclusion order … excluding entry into the United States” of the games console.
Tomorrow’s court battle will be one of the first times the Asian giants have come head to head in patent disputes stretching almost seven years.
LG is likely to apply for the consoles to be destroyed, while Sony will apply for the blockade to be lifted. A court judgment on what happens next could be returned tomorrow or in the coming days.
Customs officials at Rotterdam and Schiphol, the main import points for PS3s for both the UK and wider Europe, are understood to have extended a blockade on two Sony shipments made last week.
Sony, which imports about 100,000 PS3s into Europe each week, is attempting to get all the restrictions lifted.
If Sony is found to have infringed LG patents, it could be forced to compensate the South Korean manufacturer for each PS3 it has sold around the world, which could cost hundreds of millions of pounds.
A spokesman for Sony said: “Sony was notified at the end of February by customs authorities in the Netherlands that an inspection would be made into imports of [PlayStation 3s]. We believe this is due to a petition made by LG Electronics, alleging that Sony may be infringing LG patents related to Blu-ray technologies.
“However, this is only a preliminary injunction, that has resulted in shipments being temporarily withheld. It does not indicate any acceptance of LG’s allegations. We consider these allegations unwarranted, and will take appropriate measures including filing a claim of opposition to courts in the Netherlands. We will not comment on any further details.”
The court case is today, how will Sony fair in yet another one of its messes and how will we, the end user be affected.

I guess it makes sense...Sony says you don't own your PS3, LG has proof that Sony does not own the technology used to make the PS3, so essentially Sony says that LG owns your PS3...and just as Sony can remove features like OtherOS and 3rd party controller support, LG can remove features...like the hardware itself.
It would really suck to have your jailbroken unit taken away and later replaced with a 3.56 unit tho...then you would have to sue LG, and that would be a real mess.

Ow crap, I live in the Netherlands. I have to hide my PS3's asap, back to WOII
No news on tweakers.net (big dutch IT news site) about dutch customs seizing PS3's at people's houses here. Don't think they have time and recourses to seize every PS3 here at all. No reason to panic.
If they come at my door I will remove both the complete BD drives and hand them over to them. No way they get my complete 2 consoles with HD's :thefinger:

Sony should be happy the console was jailbroken.
Now they can sell PS3's with no bluray drive and we can play games off the internal/external HDD's instead.
No copy-write with LG there... lol

The funny thing is:
Blu-ray made it partialy because Sony used it.

I have to admit, I want Sony to have a sore ******* from this for years, I certainly hope Sony has the sales of PS3's blocked in the United States for at least 6 months.
This will force Sony to pay LG out for 42 million PS3's worldwide.
Sony needs to suffer in this manner, they think they are the police of the world, let reality strike them in their path.

This is why I believe 3.60 came out so fast, and why it has such drastic internal changes to the way the PS3 operates (removed loaders and a new lv), not because of hackers, but to cover up LG's copywrited material with their own code. Hackers are the least of their worries compared to how much they could lose in this. Just I guess of course...

GOOD!
$ony are getting what they deserve.
They put us through so much crap and force us to agree with unlawful T&C and their actions and they think they are the law. YOU ARE NOT THE LAW $ONY! You suck and we know it and we finally have a big company on our side to prove it.
Its the rest of the world and LG against $ony thats why I really hope they win.
If the PS3 gets banned worldwide then what will happen to the GeoHot lawsuit? How can he be sued for a console that doesn't exist as its banned? LOL
They will lose in many ways if LG wins.
LG wins also means PS3 Jailbreaking wins, means PS3 CFW wins. :thefinger:

SCEA/SCEE/SCEx is about licensing software/movies and all other digital computer entertainment and has problems with copyrights they think we don't pay and break agreements to their ToS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Co..._Entertainment
My english is not that good that I can give some lessons in economy, but is normal that those are separate devisions. If you do something I can't blame your brother for it although you have the same last name.
update: there are more than 300.000 PS3's seized by the dutch customs. 275000 at their distribution center in Tilburg a and a couple of ten-thousands at harbor Rotterdam and customs Airport Schiphol. Worth: 43 million euro.

this msg is to everyone that bashes sony, hoping they go down and drown.
you guys really need to use your heads, sure we all get pissed when they try to block us from pirating or remove features, or what not but really...use your head. you enjoy playing games on the ps3 other wise you wouldnt be on these sites in the first place. so really think if it wasnt for sony you wouldnt have ps3, you wouldnt be playing the games on it or watching blu rays, or anything like that.
if sony goes down what are you going to have?
and think of things from the other end of the spectrum. lets say in your professsion someone starts giving the same thing away for free, how are you going to get business and make money?
everyone loves piracy, myself included, but i dont wish for the company that brings me the thing i love to go down just b/c they try to look out for them selves!
so really dont wish for them to go down and burn. a lawsuit i can see but for the company to burn to the ground, no!
