• Tons of new updates on your favorite PS3 homebrew!

    Showtime

Showtime, a PS3 Homebrew Home Theater System application, has been updated to now include 1080p support. More info on what showtime does HERE.

    To quote:

I’ve hooked up Showtime to the video decoder libraries already present on the PS3. This will accelerate h264 (Up to level 4.2) and MPEG2 video decoding so it can play up to 1080p content.

New versions of Showtime are available for download here: pkg self

If you want to make sure that the Cell acceleration is actually used you can press L3 during video playback to see the status window.
Make sure that the video codec mentions (Cell) at the end of the row. Just like in this screenshot

    You’re welcome!

    ES35′s Customize+Learn to dev on PS3

emerson35 has also been busy recently. He has added a slight update to his ES35 customize, mainly adding a few improvements and an options menu. ES35 is an RCO editor/copier - mainly for PS3 theme editing etc..

    BACKGROUND
RCOs are a bunch of xml files encrypted together,
you can mod these with RCOMage and make custom strings on your xmb.
RAFs are Video files. the only one that is a raf is coldboot.raf, which is the boot logo. Can be made with ColdBoot Maker. Tutorial Here.
AC3s are of course audio files, which is the boot sound.

I might make a tutorial on modding RCOs for noobs if i receive some positive feedback.

    CUSTOMIZE

    To Customize
    1. put flash drive into computer and make the folder structure of customize/modz(example F:/customize/modz)
    2. put all your customized files in that folder.
    3. make sure all the names of the files are the same as the orginal(case sesitive)
    4. copy ES35′s Customize v0.1.geohot.pkg to the root of your flash drive (example F:/)
    5. put that flash drive into the ps3, and go to install pkg files.
    6. install ES35′s Customize v0.1.geohot.pkg
    7. scroll down to ES35′s Customize v0.1
    8. observe the great graphics of the icon and background image, and remember to donate.
    9. open it, and click install.
    10. quit.

    To Clean up
    1. Open it, press the up and down dpad buttons to scroll to clean it up.
    2. press X.
    3. quit.
CLEANING DOES TAKE AROUND 30 SECONDS.

He also has started a PS3 development blog for anyone interested in making home brew on the PS3, you can check that out HERE.

I can honestly say I'm surprised to see Rogero Manager as it has been forever since it has been updated. Don't get me wrong I am glad to know it hasn't been abandoned.

      This part confuses me though:
      Rogero Manager v8.3 Beta 2
Rogero backup manager v8.2 beta 2 is going some heavy work as well.

      - I'm not exactly sure what is meant by the second line from how it's worded but either ways oh well.

Thank you for posting updates on all of this, and keeping it on one post instead of multiple, much appreciated and I'm glad that the scene is progressing.

The new showtime is great, BUT..... Videos that played with the old version, but we very laggy now only play the audio =/

      Code:
      QuickTime/MPEG-4/Motion JPEG 2000 format
      Video:
      H264, High (Level 4.1), 1280x528
      Audio:
      AAC, 48000 Hz, 5.1, 400 kb/s
Like i said, this format works in the last version but not in this one

m4vs play fine at 720p and 1080p, but there is no samba_fs as device, and 720p avi mjpeg only plays sound as you already mentioned.

I really do appreciate a media player homebrew, but so far the native XMB media player has been better for me.

How can I queue this? I love the []-button in the XMB Media player.

And I really do like the filebrowser in showtime, it’s almost like MacOS X.

I'd love to see more people like you. Grateful for all, despite how big or small the release is.

      Thank you.

As for the releases, I can't use them as I updated to 3.60 OFW. I hope they bring joy to those in need.

I tried to install the updated showtime on 3.41 cfw and it didnt work - I assume its 3.55 signed

Anyone know how I can re-sign/re-pkg it to work on 3.41? I've tried googling for help and all i could find is peoples lists of signed pkgs and eboots but no tutorials or anything on how to do it!

Edit: Never mind i found a tutorial here http://psx-scene.com/forums/678402-post5.html followed the instructions it works like a charm! And here's the working pkg for 3.41 I created:

Sorry if the question is already answered. I just tried showtime and I was wondering if it can play embeded subs in mkv , cause when selecting the file i can see the sub type (ass , srt , text) but in video they don't display.
Other than that , allow me to thank the developer for all the great work and effort he put in this.

EDIT: After some looking around I found that it doesn't yet support some advanced ass/ssa features (for example those used in anime fansubbing). Still though a great effort , can't wait till it supports them. Makes me think what the hell are those guys at Sony doing , not adding a decent media player themselves

Just played a 1080p mkv file (4.0) and it played perfectly, stutterless with Cell support enabled, plus srt subs.

      This is awesome.

It doesnt support unicode subs just yet, and the video doesnt fill the screen for some reason ( black border present), but heck this is a huge leap forward.

      Bravo!

Why do you use mkv files? Its all a lot smother if you change container to .vob or .m2ts, its done in like 2 mins if you find the right how to.

Guys I just tried a 1080p video, as I wrote above and everyone seems to ignore. It works perfectly. Just be sure the format profile of the file is lower than L4.2

To see if the file is lower than L4.2 download MediaInfo and make sure that the First video stream doenst have something like AVC ([email protected]) or something higher than L4.2.

1080p MKV DOES work with this release - with srt subs too!

To be sure that the format profile is also correct, press L3 while playing. If you see "(Cell)" somewhere, it means that processing is done natively through the cell processor. If not, you'll see stutter.

I'm surprised people are suggesting transcoding MKV to VOB. I think you're missing the whole point of MKV, which is a drastic reduction in file size with minimal quality loss. Sure, if I had an external drive with infinite space, I'd do everything in VOB or MPG, but I'll quickly run out of space even on a 2TB drive.

MKV takes a 4GB VOB and reduces it to under 1GB in most cases. That's why I use MKV at least.

IDK if this is happening to everybody... but for some reason there's a black border when playing a movie (even 1080p which should theoretically fill up every pixel) and it really pisses me off. I want into settings and I've seen the "ToggleFullscreen" option along with F11 assigned. I hooked my USB keyboard and pressed the F11 during playback but it had no effect. Other than that, everything is silky smooth, no stuttering :D

Are you sure that it's not the aspect ratio of the video file that's determining the borders? 1080p only refers to screen resolution, so you can have 1080p files that are 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 letterbox, or anything really.

480/576i/720p/1080p is the height of the resolution, most 2.35:1 and 1.85:1 are on 1080p 1920 wide while 820 and 1037 pixels high respectively.

I know 100% that the video I'm trying to watch is 1920x1080 px. I checked it out on propeties and I know 100% it's 16:9 aspect ratio, the same as my monitor (when I'm watching it with my PC, it fills up every pixel perfectly). I even put a 720p (1280 x 720px exactly) - same thing. It also happens with standard avi files.

it gives me an error message on MKV files 720p with 5.2 level (4.2 level works fine)
"CPU is too slow to decode this file" something like that
