Esteemed PS3 Developer KaKaRoTo, has been working hard for two months on a little project, which he has just released to day, it is a professional Homebrew game, there is also a petition in the form of a letter addressed to Sony and if you chose, there is an option to donate, here is a quote from the Source:
The Humble Homebrew Collection is an initiative that aims to convince Sony to provide us with a legitimate and official way to create homebrew applications for the consoles that we own.
We are providing you with a free homebrew game that aims to be polished and look professionally made which includes 33 very good and addictive puzzle games. We’ve tried to make this homebrew games collection as good as possible so that even the anti-homebrew purists will be jealous of it.
Homebrew does not equal piracy, and this is proof of it. These games are all free and are released under the MIT license.
You are free to download these games for the platform of your choice, whether it’s on a jailbroken PS3, Linux, Windows, Mac or Android.
This Homebrew game collection is a port of Simon Tatham’s Portagle Puzzle Collection to the Playstation 3 system and it includes 33 puzzle games. More games are being written and this collection will only increase with time.
This is one of the first homebrew games that are released on the PS3 which are above the “proof of concept” status and is not yet another backup manager, FTP server or a port of an existing emulator.
This homebrew game is still in active development and will continue to receive regular updates. The TODO list has many items on it and it will continue to improve for your enjoyment.
The main purpose of this website it to serve as a petition against Sony’s unjust behavior towards their customers. You are encouraged to sign the petition, donate to the developers or you can simply download the games. The choice is yours.
If you wish to do so, you may also donate to the developers of this homebrew application, as well as to the EFF, which helps defend our rights in this digital age.
It is time to vote with your money, boycott Sony, request your legal homebrew and request your freedom and let them know that they have much to gain by giving us access to the homebrew that we deserve.
Let Sony know that, as a customer, you want homebrew games, you want to see the real purpose of the Copyright Law used properly: To encourage creativity and innovation. Let them know that, as a customer, you are willing to pay for quality homebrew and that if they wanted to, they can get a share of that money. After all, all they care about is money!
Thank you

THANK YOU!
Its nice to see real homebrew being released. More of this and less of the "can has warez" posts please! (Not aimed at you KaKaRoTo! I love your work...)
I hope this serves as the inspiration to kick off the PS3 Homebrew scene properly.

Lame and waste of time sony doesn't give a **** about homebrew. It does not generate profit so they will completely ignore the letter... Those that have been scared by sony's legal prowers obviously would resort to begging. To plead for sony to support homebrew.. it only shows how scared the scene has become.. a display of weakness
sieg heil Sony

It was pretty saddening to see on Kakarotoks twiiter page a few hours ago that only 429 people signed the petition. I just jumped onto the humble homebrew page and it looks like more people are getting the idea since there was about a 40% increase and now its around 718 signatures. I really hope everyone here decides to sign the petition.
This guy has devoted alot of his time to the scene, so wouldn't it be fitting for all of us to devote not even 30 seconds to signing a petition on something that, whether directly or indirectly, involves all of us that lurk or post on this forum and others of the same nature.
You dont even need to expose yourself to Sony if you are worried, since there is an option to sign anonymously. There really is no excuse to not signing the petition. Even if you dont care about linux and are only about playing the latest warez it wont kill you to sign the petition.

I can already play mkv on my ps3. My battle has already been won. Mine was more of a moral statement about the difference between a online petition and physical action. Geohot did not jailbreak the ps3 by crying to Sony. He just did it. Just like the creators of current Homebrew. They are not waiting for permission from Sony.

ANY step in the right direction is beneficial, and polite, logical arguments will always win in matters of this kind. Physical fights are for people who lack the confidence and justification to use words over weapons.
EDIT Your using GH as a reference is not exactly the most weighted is it? Look what happened when he actually came face to face with someone who would not back down because he is a child (as in age, not mentality). He talked the talk, then turned round and lay down like a good little doggie as soon as he realised that he was in the firing line.

Geohot is a great example. He is alpha

GeoHot DID NOT jailbreak the PS3, why are people so damn blind, the PS3 was Jailbroken long before he created the scenes SECOND CFW and he wouldn't have been able to do a single thing if it hadn't been for the PS Jailbreak team and fail0verflow.
05-27-2011
05:06 AM
Why would anyone want to risk themselves when there are people that would deny them there victory. You can live in a state of denial, but Geohot is still alpha. KaKaRoTo used Geohot work.

I could have that circular conversation, but my original point is that asking Sony for permission is a waste of time. We do not need the blessing of Sony to be able to create software for the ps3.

05:57 AM
You keep saying GeoHot is alpha, i think you are just spelling it that way, because you don't actually know how to spell "ánal".
Try and educate yourself and get your head dislodged from GeoHots bum, i have said it many times, GeoHot would not have been able to release a CFW without the help of fail0verflows tools.
Read this http://ps3history.com/
It is fact and will hopefully educate you on the real PS3 history, not the rubbish you have allowed yourself to be brainwashed with.
05-27-2011
08:20 AM
and geohot didn't jailbreak anything! geohot created a custom firmware! and geohot didn't do it alone, if it wasn't for fail0verflow, he wouldn't even got anything out.

Asking Sony for permission is a waste of time
05-27-2011

we are not asking for permission! we are asking for an easy way to use homebrew, they don't lets us? we take it from them like we always did!
its a shame sony is so narrow minded!

Sony dose not have a mind. They are just a bunch of Executives who know nothing about gaming, Lawyers that get paid per hour doing busy work to make it look like they are worth the money, and bankers that only see things in stock value. The engineers and game developers that would even know what we are talking about, do not get a say or opinion on anything. Asking Sony to do anything is like yelling at a ATM machine.
