KaKaRoTo, a very talented Developer has released a port of Free Heros 2 (Heroes of Might and Magic II clone) for the PS3.

Free Heroes 2 is now available to download from http://humblehomebrew.com ! I know the site sucks, deal with it (or help improve it!)

Next version will add selection of free map packs for FHeroes2, and hopefully get that pink background fixed too.

Note: make sure you connected your ps3 to the internet for the first run, it needs to download the game data (licensing issue).

Ok let me go ahead and get this out of the way now. Anyone that cries about a MFW will be sent on suspension for 7 days. As we all know he was responsible for PL3 and the first MFW for 3.55 (although fairly unused). He is making awesome homebrew and I urge everyone to sign his petition.

Kakaroto awesome work. You have put out 2 nice homebrew projects. I look forward to seeing what else you will come up with.

KaKaRoTo ,I thank you for still being creative to the scene with your homebrew releases ,you are a good guy Thanks to the devs, that are still working on projects like yours > KaKaRoTo ! ================================================================================ You all have given the littler people on CFW hope .As in more good things to come . Just a tip, is it possable can we get some window based tools kinda like softwere that would be used on a pc,-> but to use on ps3 without installing a OS ? Just a thought ,kinda like the ( milti suite text reader ) Like the french dev created ,sorry i had forgotin his name ================================================================================ These would eventually become usefull to read more files on the ps3 ,I would like to tinker a open files to see what i can find on the ps3 ..I am a cuirious person & like to see what sony is hiding in there files

I downloaded and installed the game (3.55 KMEAW) and when I try to run it it first says "Game data not found!" and then "Error downloading game data: Couldn't resolve host name". Now mind you, I am not connected to the net, so the second part makes sense, but why can't it find the data after I installed it?

      Any help is appreciated.

      Offline method

Simply download the Heroes of Might and Magic II Demo on your pc, here's the link :
      http://downloads.pcworld.com/pub/new...egy/h2demo.zip
Then use an FTP server to put that file in /dev_hdd0/game/HEROES200/USRDIR (I think that's the right directory.. I'm sure you'll figure it out, just make sure you install the ps3 port of the game first).
Then after you run the game, it will extract the contents, and ask you to restart.. You could also extract it yourself then FTP the extracted files, but it's best to let it to do it for you.
By doing that, it will not require an internet connection since you already downloaded the demo.

This is necessary because all the sprites, graphics, sounds, etc.. are copyrighted by 3DO and cannot be redistributed, but you can get them from the demo for free.

This will also give you one map (the one in the demo), and I'm working currently on an auto-download of community-designed free maps. I will let you know where to download them from once it's done.

      Hope you enjoy it!

All the sprites (images) are copyrighted by Ubisoft and cannot be redistributed with this game, so they are downloaded automatically from the free demo of the game at first boot. Free Heroes 2 is only the engine that is able to run the original Heroes of Might and Magic II (HOMM2) game.

If you do not wish to connect your PS3 to the internet for any reason, then you may simply download the demo yourself on your PC and copy it to the Free Heroes 2 game directory on the PS3. First, you will need to download the demo from here as well as the essential map pack from here. Then you must copy these zip files to the PS3 either by using an FTP application, or using a file manager. You must place the zip files in /dev_hdd0/game/HEROES200/USRDIR then when running the game, it will extract the files and restart.

If you have the full retail game of HOMM2, you may also copy its contents to the PS3 and Free Heroes 2 will let you play the full retail copy of HOMM2. Simply copy all the contents of the game to the /dev_hdd0/game/HEROES200/USRDIR. The most important files are DATA/HEROES2.AGG and the MAPS directory. Make sure that the 'DATA' and 'MAPS' directories are in upper case when you copy them over.

      Enjoy the game!
