Tons of new updates on this news story over the past several hours.
First off, deank has updated multiMAN to version 02.07.06, this new update allows PSX discs appear in XMMB Game column allowing you to boot PS1 games from there. You can grab the download HERE.
Second, SAVE GAME FILES ARE NOT CURRENTLY WORKING.
There also is a compatibility list out there, I am mirrioring the tested ones here but honestly most of the games will work with this method and there may be a very small percent that don’t.

Stay tuned for more developments with us @PS3Hax.
UPDATE 2
PS3Hax member CaptainCPS-X has posted more information on how to get SAVE GAME to work, to quote:
- Turn on you PS3 console
- DONT open multiMAN
- In the GAME column look for “Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)”
- Create a PS1 memory card
- Set it to Slot 1 (Press Triangle while selecting the Memory Card, then Assign it)
- Now, run multiMAN
- Insert your backup disc
- Load it
- Play
- Memory Card is in Slot 1, no need to mess with it anymore.
Another multiMAN update by deank brining version to 02.07.07.
To quote:
multiMAN ver 02.07.07 UPDATE (20110928-161900).pkg (1.75 MB)
In this update about PSX games (FW 3.55 only):
* Proper management for Memory Card 1 and Memory Card 2Â (thanks to moogie and squarepusher for the emulator debug log)
* The name of the memory card may be anything you wish
* Setting “Screen Mode” to “Full”
* Setting “Smoothing” to “On”
* Detecting PSX discs with Audio tracks (now all PSX discs detected properly)
If you want “Saves” and “Memory Cards” to work, make sure that your CREATE at least one memory card in XMB/Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2).
Have in mind that EVEN if you don’t assign a slot for a memory card from XMB, multiMAN will search for your memory cards and will assign all of them in the emulator. Do not use the “Assign Slots” menu in the emulator – it will freeze. The cards will be already assigned.
For all this to work you must launch the game from the PSX black disc icon in XMMB Game column and not the emulator self!
wtf today is great day for the ps3 scene first the psn stuff gets decrypted and now this, this is what i want to hear now we just need the JFW DH CFW to be released an working
Wow, this is great! Always wanted to replay some classics. BTW, does this work with games on the HDD, cause loading CD-s is soooooooooo slooooooooooooowww? I'm gonna test MGS1 in a few moments.
Yeah I just read this over at another forum. And so far from what they say "saving" does NOT work. Or at least not yet. Nobody has figured out how to save. Apparently the virtual memory cards don't work. Also on top of that I don't like the idea that you have to "burn" the game. I have no blank cd's to burn any ps1 games...so I'm **** out of luck. Until someone figures out how to get this to work without a disc. Also it only works for ps1 games not ps2.
Well ps1_emu black screen-ed my ps3, netemu showed the first 1 screens and died, and newemu was the same as normal emu self. Although some guys at the other forums say it's working so I'm gonna test this a bit more.
Yeah an update on what games work and what don't. And apparently version 2.07.04 of MM works with some ps1 games but not all...and 2.07.01 also seems to be good. Parasite Eve seems to work, DBZ Legends works. And Final Fantasy Tactics and Suikoden 2 do not work for some reason on 2.7.01 and apparently for some people 2.7.04 crashes some peoples system. I am getting this info from "ps3crunch" forums. If anyone is wondering.
Wait wait...DzhoPS3HAX you say actual imported discs work!??...not just backups? Actual ps1 imported discs? Because I actually own 1 imported ps1 game. So if that does work holy crap I'll test it tonight. Oh wait no I wont...because I want to make sure that saving works and so far it still doesnt. No one is talking about how to get saving working.
I may actually go for it tonight and update my version of MM and I'll probably do some testing. I need to see what games work and what don't. Also I'd like to know more about "saving" and see if people are still trying to get "saving" working. I got a memory card adaptor so using that with my ps1 memory card may end up working.
I am on 3.55 KMEAW.
Japanese FAT console.
I tried like 3 or 4 games (PAL or NTSC) all of them dont work, just black screen.
I have tried this in the past.
Make sure when you confirm it works to put yous specs too...
Don't get me wrong I got tons of ps1 games I could backup with the new Multiman as well but again I think this method is very strict when it comes to what will work. And people are still saying it only works with actual discs. I still can't get over that because the new MM is made to back them up...so if it does that the ps1_emu thing should be able to load them. This is why I think I'll be doing some testing later once no one is out using the tv. Because right now I need to wait.
OMFG this works With all my DDR japanese orginal import games. They have been collecting dust for years. Wow so happy. 3th, 4th, 5th, extra mix all working
OMFG this works With all my DDR japanese orginal import games. They have been collecting dust for years. Wow so happy. 3th, 4th, 5th, extra mix all working
So you can confirm not only backups...but actual Imported discs work with this method? Very nice.
OH and another thing I'd like to know from people testing this. Is can any of you load a save file? I know saving doesnt seem to work but...lets say you got a save file on the virtual memory card...ingame does it allow you to load that save file?
I tried MGS1 and FF7 backups (on disk) - had no success with FF7 and with netemu I got to the two first screens on MGS1 (PS logo and don't copy, illegal stuff etc.) I'm using 2.07.04 MM

i launchec a Original Japanese Game and two backups [last MultiMann and the game who in JAP and PAL version] on Russian Console
are u guys on rebug cause i can confirm that it works on rebug,ps3 320gb slim,mm 2.07,and i used an original pal game which was gran turimo and my ps3 is from the us.so my ps3 play games from different region!!!! yayay ha ha ha la la la!!!!
Dean commented over at ps3crunch and said something about possibly adding those ps1_emu selfs to Multiman I think like an option to choose which one. Oh and Dean also said its possible that the reason games may not work is because apparently they may need to be the same region as your ps3 your using. I don't believe that 100% though since someone recently said that a jap game worked. So I don't know.
Especially with the current RSX access, it would be possible to port the PS1PCX (or whatever it was called) to the PS3. It has much better emulation, better compatibility as the PS3 has and much better upscaling.
Oh and Dean also said its possible that the reason games may not work is because apparently they may need to be the same region as your ps3 your using.
Well that isn't correct, i have a Pal Ps3, NTSC backup.
OK with 02.07.05 update it now works on me too perfectly!
LOL Resident Evil 1 PROTOTYPE Version working on PS3...! XD This was random!
As for the save issue, If you go to assign slots in menu by pressing long the PS button and mount a MC on a slot, it results to PS3 hanging... Hmmm...
Also instead of trying to do the same with a PS2 game using the selfs on KMEAW i tried to boot something from the ones of the Cobra CFW. All resulted in being kicked back to XMB...
EDIT: PAL/NTSC-U/NTSC-J games all work on my NTSC-J console!
i tried ff7 pal on my ps3 pal using MM 2.07.5 and it works, the only bug i found is the memory card system, it doesn't works fine. when i select memory card 1 the screen's freeze and i have to put off my ps3... anyone can fix the problem of virtual mc?

For ps2 backups I normally use dvd-r's but I have used +r's before and they worked also. But yeah if you can test those out with the ps2_emu go ahead. Also that one member is right I think... apparently the bios are in the ps1 section but not the ps2 one. Which may be the issue why it may not read the ps2 games.
Crash Bash - PAL - Works (Speed issue, goes faster than normal, notice cutscenes don't sync with speech)
Crash Bandicoot 2 - PAL - Works (No Issues ?)
Speed Freaks - PAL Works (No Issues ?)
I'll put those on the list tooXD)
Biohazard (Prototype Alpha Sample-19950804) NTSC-J - Works
Biohazard (Beta Sample-19951004) - NTSC-J -Works
The 'feature' to launch PSX backups from CD/DVD was in multiMAN since version 02.07.01 from almost 2 weeks ago.
In the latest update 02.07.05 you can launch the PSX disc from XMMB Game column (you can chose Load or Load (Net)) to pick different emulator (ps1_emu or ps1_netemu).
No one said anything about PS2 games, so don't get so exited.
It was the first thing I did. No go. Kicks back to XMB.
Damn, why am i not a genius, damn mine brains, I can't reverse engineer a damn thing. LOL, going to try and retry etc..... lol

It's better to try and fail and getting back up then doing nothing at all.

Nah don't take it that personal, it's just that I was faster, I wonder though what changed and allowed such thing. I tried with old builds of MM and it didnt work. I know that it bringed support for Cobra folders and recognising the discs to it's real format, but there must be something more than that...

I was playing around with this, with ps2emu.self and got it to recognize swapmagic disc. something it didn't do before. so now I'm going to test USB loading with swap magic

Others have got that usb loading to work for them...but it has never worked for me. But that is basically almost off topic because we are discussing backup support...not usb support.

What is you put the ps2 BIOS there????
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
What if you put the ps2 BIOS there????
What you mean? well if you mean by Corba's PS2 emulation im guessing it may work better for some games. or if you mean't by if using the bios on playing burnt backup PS2 games then im not sure then
Really good stuff. Alot of action in the ps3scene today.
Dusted off the first psx backup I could find at it works great.
Thanks Deank for your continued work with multiman.
lol, before I was finished testing my first game you snapped out another update making this easier. great job really.
What is the difference between booting a game from those different selfs?
Booting a game from the ps1_netemu.self gives a boot screen with a sound upitched/different!(easter egg LOL)
Sounds like the common isuue of a 44KHz sound wrongly sampled in 48Khz...
Just now updated my MM to 02.07.01 and I tested my import of Final Fantasy VII International and it works flawlessly. But it's uber pixled xD and I also tried my Memory card Adapter I have I don't think anyone reported that working or not so I tested that and it didnt work. But at least I tested a game. I was surprised it worked without issue. I expected it to crash my system or something but it didnt. Yeah anyway so far thats it. I don't have anymore games to test because I got no cds with ps1 games on them. And my FFVII International is the only imported game I own. Sorry ._. If I had some empty discs I'd be testing more games.
Oh and my ps3 is a "original" phat 60gb BC. And I'm on Kmeaw 3.55.(people have been posting their specs so I did too lol)
lmao, metal of honor, wood of honor, i know it's a typo, but a real good one,
back on topic,
Can some confirm this game: Wu tang - Taste the pain,
that was freaking awesome game, i really enjoyed it, because i won't buy a ps1 game when it's not working, or pirated it if i can't find the game here in belgium, and i don't use paid transactions thru the web like ebay etc...., thx
I have a copy of METAL GEAR SOLID INTEGRAL JAP and it worked. I am pleased that it was so simple and am looking forward to the programs to come with a save option. I am sure ps2 will be playable since psx is now...just a matter of time. Multiman rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Black screen for me. First i tryed just ps1_emu.self without any game and it boot me back to xmb. Now i tryed with game and get black screen. Then i tryed ps1_emu.self again without game and got black screen again. I messed up something, HELP!

What do you exactly expect to happen when there is no PSX disc in the tray?!
Psp memorystick games have a pbp extension so you would have to rip a ps1 disc to your pc into a bin or iso file then use an old program (called Popstation Gui) created way back then when the psp scene was at the it's peak to convert the iso/bin extension to pbp so that it's playable for psp.
lol Oh yeah I remember that program. In fact I used it years ago. But yeah except this isn't needed when there is already pretty much every ps1 game converted to psp. :P And already downloadable. I don't see why anyone would do this right now when their game they want is already converted for them someplace else. lol
Rax909, thanks man.. gonna try it now and see what happens
Oh crap, just saw your post... I'll rather leave it to you experts, i'm a microbiologist not a coder or anything, was just curious to see if this would work. thanks for the heads up
Updated compatibility list from Ps3crunch forums...but I added "FFVII International" since I am not a member over there so they dont know. lol
But I know it works.

Is it dangerous to copy ps2 bios to dev_flash/ps2emu ?
Ok to stop such posts, there is NO reason to do such thing.
The ps2 selfs contain the portion of bios that is needed for each of them to work properly according to what type of emulation they do (HW/H&SW/Full SW).
I can't swear that this wouldnt work though, I've been surprised way too many times, with this situation a perfect example.

Because your ignorant claim of "pretty much every game" doesn't even come close to the actual number of PS1 games people want to play.
I have 40+ PS1 games at home, and only 5 of them are available for download from PSN.
I assumed you were talking about PSN because PSP eboots of PS1 games DO NOT WORK on the PS3.
There's no other way to play PS1 backups on the PS3 - until now.
So Rax909's claim of "duh these are already downloadable" makes no goddamn sense if we're talking about the PS3. Sure, you can download all of them. Your PS3 won't do anything with them.

Added Metal gear to that list. From the video I saw it looked like the Japanese version...so I can't confirm which version works and what doesn't.
Add also the ones I posted on previous posts.
Notice carefully that some games have speed issues, I thing you should mention it.
Plus, dunno if anyone thought of this, which is obvious that those cases are related:
Isn't the full software emulator of PS2 having EXACTLY the same issue/bug with what this tutorial has too? Unable to use savegames...
Cobra doesn't have that issue, so it means they can be fixed or we're missing something and I'M PRETTY SURE I KNOW WHAT IT IS!
In order to avoid being kind of off topic, I'll post the reason i think this happens on the multiMan thread since I'm sure what's the bug that is causing it!

So you were derailing the topic to talk about a 7 year old Handheld.
Ok guys, stay on topic, @Rax909 and @FreakAlchemist stop derailing the thread, this thread is about backups playing on the PS3, not PSP, Combined Harvester or any other device, PS3 ONLY, further deviations will be punished.

I went back and edited my list on page 11. I added the ones you said. If I didnt get them all just say so. I'll edit the list again whenever I see more
FYI: I never derailed any thread.
chitalov oh we all know Multiman has been updated. lol...
Just edited the compatibility list once again over on Page 11...
Games I am looking forward to seeing tested...are Saga Frontier 1 and 2, Final Fantasy Origins, codebreaker, gameshark(someone said gameshark didnt work...so thats bad), Chrono Cross I don't recall saw anyone test. Japanese version of Final Fantasy 1 and 2, Final Fantasy 8, and Japanese version of FF Tactics also needs to be tested.
Ok Calo I added Tony Hawk 1 to the list on page 11. Thank you for testing that.
So the rest of the Tony Games need to be tested as well...but I assume the second may end up working, not sure about the others though.
I tried here and work... But in other way i simple put the ps1 disc on ps3, open multiman and in Games the was the icon of PLASTATION Disc, i just press the x button and work perfect.
Rayman works almost perfectly (music isn't in sync with the levels)
But gameplay is perfect.
Which version of Rayman did you test? NTSC(US or Japanese) or PAL? So I can add it to the list on page 11.
Also Muffy what version of Pandemonium did you test? NTSC(US or Japanese) or PAL? And you tested the first game or the second? I guess it had a sequel.

Pandemonium - PAL
Jonah Lomu - PAL also working but did not show up on Multiman XMB had to launch via ps1emu.self file.
hey guys, i tried it out, but the save game still needs some solving, anyone tried to mount slot 1 with an original psx game save it and then press the PS button and eject the original and insert the copy then press reset game???
i have a big collection of burnt games on different cd-r/cd+r and cd-rw so ill try to test, but first the save game issue.
So far Rival Schools Disc 1 - USA works fine for me, ill test chrono cross in a bit ooooooh and deank about multiman, since mm semi boots the ps1 game, maybe you could inplent the virtual memory card in mm so it boots up also with the ps1emu, just thinking out loud :-)))) keep up the good mm work man, i'd like to see a picture of a new logo mm white t-shirt (that would be awsome)
Works with all my ps1 games, resi 3, resi 2 etc. I added a ps2 bios to ps2emu awhile back and left it there and tried now to do the same method with ps1 games with no luck. This is a great find tho and I can't imagine it being a big mission to somehow get ps1 backups to save and load from multiman or xmb after this awesome find. Deank you got quite a short temper for someone who has made and so passionately updates one of the most useful ps3 homebrew apps to date. Im a bit disappointed
couple of things
i am using retail discs
I am trying to get it playable via hard drive so i try...
Copying it and it eventually stalls during installation then eventually say Error occurred while accessing data! (shows how many sectors read and total to be read)
Create ISO and it doesn't even start. It shows 0% and never anything further

Hmm You may have to report that issue over at the Multiman thread to ask them about it. And I have not yet used the backup feature in MM...so I can't help anyone with that.
It's a step in the right direction. Without game save it's completely useless at this point unless you are intending to beat the entire game in one sitting lol. I say until we get the save game issue worked out this ain't much help to the masses. I still applaud the use of actually getting them functioning though.
sorry for the stupidity but i never got to burn a ps1 game ..
so i need to burn the format .bin in the disc and thats it ? cause it didnt work for me with crash bandicoot 3. please a lil help here T.T
Thanks for posting about those. I just added those on page 11 along side some more people posted over at ps3crunch. The list is getting bigger and bigger.
metalheavy your right without saving its useless to play the games. (Except games that not needed to save like 2 player fighting games lol)
but yeah...but I assure you its best to get this on a list of working games first knowing they work ahead of time...and once the save function is dealed with we will know what works and what doesn't.
The list I am updating will continue to be on page 11 for those wondering what games work.
Anything pecial need to be done when burning the games? As in burned at low speeds, must be a CD-R or a CD+R? Though it would waste a disk can the games be burnt to DVD_R disks (I only have DVD's on hand currently)? Never had to burn a ps1 backup before
- I burned Breaker Pro (PS1 Disc Loader + Cheat Disc) (this is very old xD)
- Loaded with latest multiMAN from XMMB (Kmeaw FW)
- Selected main option in Breaker Pro Loader
- Ejected Disc as instructed by Breaker Pro
- Inserted Final Fantasy VIII Backup CD-R (This one is always detected as Data Disc on XBM and multiMAN)
- Pressed a button to continue with loading
- Success! Final Fantasy VIII was loaded using multiMAN + Breaker Pro
Have not tested Memory Cards yet
EDIT: Memory Card works if you already created and configured it at XMB section, if you try to set it up while using multiMAN feature then the PS3 will freeze. I just loaded a FFVIII save I had without problems. Btw, the video smooth configuration is not being loaded as well, I have to set it up when the game is loaded.

I am more disappointed than you!
Well, sometimes I run out of patience. All the *****ing and ignorance shorten the fuse. And since it is USELESS TO MOST OF YOU without the saves which you cant enable, because you are busy complaining, I will simply not include it in 2.08.
deank, please don't listen to these people, the ones who appreciate and value your work are more than those few ignorant guys out there.
This feature is working just fine, and saves work well, I been saving and loading from a PS1 backup for a while now
Please don't remove this amazing feature from multiMAN
-Rival Schools Disc 1 & 2 - USA working (Philips CD-R 650 MB)
-Chrono Cross Disc 1 & 2 - USA working (nice elemental magic :-)) (That's Write CD-R 700MB)
-Guilty Gear - USA working (no Psx MM logo, boot with ps1_emu elf) (Kodak CD-R 700MB) music tracks burn
-The King of Fighters 1995 - JPN working (no Psx MM logo, boot with ps1_emu elf) (imation CD-R 700 MB) music track burn
-Um Jammer Lammy - USA working (imation CD-R 700 MB)

aww come on dean don't let jerk like that make you upset,i was quite satisfied to watch just the opening of my ps1 game again and that booting sound
i hope you make the save file manager for both ps1 and ps2,someday but not today.

He doesn't need to do anything, saves are working fine. You can't just configure Slots while playing a game loaded by multiMAN.
EDIT: You can always configure your PS1 / PS2 slots while on XMB, then there is not need to access that function while playing.

How exactly do you load a save file if you don't have a memory card?
If you can make a save file on the pc and use that to enable saves, that pretty much solves sverything

Except they are only working "while" using Breaker Pro through Multiman...so basically your using Breaker Pro to get the games to allow saving. And not everyone has Breaker Pro. :P
doc81 Thanks! I just added all those to the list. Thanks for testing.

lol It's a game disc that you can buy or burn that allows backups to be played. It was released years ago for ps1, and it also works on ps2. But he burned it and is using it on ps3 through multiman to get saving to work.
And to Deank I am not ungrateful for your amazing work. I don't know how you got that impression but it's not true. I am very greatfull. And I appreciate it. Keep up the outstanding work.
I don't know what people are doing but i tried thps2 and i could not save.
And yes i did setup the memory card before i used multiMAN.....Deank Keep up the great work !!!!

Wrong, I didn't need to use Breaker Pro to boot Marvel vs Capcom [NTSC] backup, and Memory Card is working to load and save.
There is an option on the Game column on the PS3 XMB "Memory Card Utility [PS1 / PS2] where you can create "Virtual Memory Cards" then assign them to the desired Slot. Then when you load a game the memory card will be already mounted , it doesn't matter if you loaded with Breaker Pro, multiMAN, or even Cobra Manager.
Create a card and assign it to a slot in XMB and then use mM.
I tried this w/o the Breaker Pro disc, will maybe try that later, but it didn't work for me with this setup:
Kmeaw 3.55 CFW
PS3 Slim
Road Rash original PS1 disc (not a backup)
Set up a memory card in XMB.
Played Road Rash original through XMB and saved my game.
Rebooted into Multiman and attempted to load saved game. Road Rash did not recognize any memory cards as being inserted.
Either this captain fella is on something or the breaker pro is somehow making a difference. Or I'm doing something wrong, but I don't think I am.

I had my Virtual Memory Cards assigned ALONG time ago. And for me this did not work when I tested Final Fantasy VII International. Unless some games can save and some cant...
WORKING:
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 - PAL
NASCAR Rumble - NTSC
Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX - NTSC
Rugrats: Search For Reptar - NTSC (Don't ask, got it YEARS ago!! lol)
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - PAL
101 Sega MasterSystem Games - NTSC - This IS NOT an official game, but an emulator pack thingy. Has graphical glitches, this is the game NOT the system.
NOT WORKING:
Vib Ribbon - Does not show in XMMB
Colin McRae Rally 2.0 - Does not show in XMMB
The New Tetris - Does not show in XMMB
Will test more when I get them from my 'rents place tomorrow, but seeing as its 1:30am here now, I have tried all the games I have with me!!
Well unhappy Vib Ribbon doesn't work

I tested with Road Rash, FFIX, and FFVII all NTSC-U versions and could not get the saving/loading to work with the new method. I too had a memory card set up awhile ago as I had been playing through FFIX on my PS3. The only one of the above that is even a backup is FFVII.
Guys I will say it one more time so please read well...
- Turn on you PS3 console
- DONT open multiMAN
- In the GAME column look for "Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)"
- Create a PS1 memory card
- Set it to Slot 1 (Press Triangle while selecting the Memory Card, then Assign it)
- Now, run multiMAN
- Insert your backup disc
- Load it
- Play
- Memory Card is in Slot 1, no need to mess with it anymore.

Perhaps a "none" working list should be created...
Just tried Um Jamma Lammy cos I saw it was working.........
It IS working, but.........
It is so out of time, u really can't play it properly
So thats 2 games I wanted to play again out the window, oh well, Rugrats it is then!! LMFAO!!

I did try that before trying to find out why the savegames do not work and it didnt fix the issue.
Booting a PSOne game resets the memory card being unassigned to any Slot.

keep getting in um jammer lammy no MEMORY CARD insterted in MEMORY CARS slot 1.
i did everything the Cap.CPS-X typed, no luck, i am on mm 02.07.06, so what am i doing wrong??
in case of failure i set a ps2 mem on slot 2 in the original ps3 xmb.
oooh well, um jammer lammy is very difficult but its still fun to play hehehe ye good old times hehe back in the day psx'ers ya know hehehe
Everybody keep up the good work. oooh yeah before i forget, i didn;t have a single crash upon playing um jammer lammy and it is still running good so this is very stable :-)

Yeah I just tested with Marvel vs Capcom [NTSC] I can confirm it. Memory Card is Assigned to Slot 1 via XMB (Remember that you must assign the PS1 Memory Card via XMB by pressing button and make sure you select the bottom option, and not PS2), the only option that seems to be resetting for me is the Smoothing option.
wow, so many good things going on these days
Fony must be going nuts lol
can't wait to re-hack my ps3
keep up the good work boyz
if you want something done right
you gotta do it yourself
Fony can stay in there Make.Believe bul****

Weird because honestly before I would post anything that it doesnt work, I checked if this would fix the issue but nope, no luck. I believe that it works for you BUT I feel that something else interfere with that reset issue. One thing is when you use the smoothing option, but maybe there are more than that. I'll try 2morrow and i'll tell you.
very weird, it now works for me 2, what i did is deleted the ps2 and ps1 vir. memory cards, ejected the game, rebooted the ps3, created 1 vir. mem card for ps1 only and alligned it with on slot 1, ejected the psx cd and rebooted the ps3 again and then i started the mm and booted with Load (net) voila, it saved um jammer lammy save with no problem. bit weird, it didn;t work for me, and after resets and a couple of tries it works, but for how long?? so thats it people, happy testing
To those reporting music out of sync issues, have these backups been tested on ps1 hardware/pc emus? Because there has always been an issue with games that have separate audio tracks. Does anyone know if backups made via MM preserves these in the same way that clonecd, for example, does?
Rayman has always been a problem game to emulate on pc emulators due to the audio being out of sync.
But it works perfectly on psp (once converted) but still has the audio issues on PS3.
Crash 3 and Metal Gear Solid both confirmed working as well as Captains save method as per instructed. Seems like just yesterday people were calling Multiman's ability to back up PS1 games a waste of time. Lol...Awesome!
lol True but my list seems to be more updated in certain ways. If that list gets as updated as mine on Page 11 then I won't need to edit it anymore.
Because I looked at that wiki list and I don't see many "yes's" Are you the one who created it? Look at my list on page 11
And then update yours over there. Then everyone I guess could use that one instead of mine. If your willing to do all the work.
@ CaptainCPS-X
Ignore him...
Though I can also confirm that this mentod DOES NOT work for me too for some reason.
It was the first thing I did, I completelly forgot actually that you can change them on the fly by pressing the PS button.
@ nowayout
Nope, exactly the same disc being played on a PAL BC 60GB PS3 works without that out of sync issue. If I recall correct Cobra had this issue too on some games that are played on different region consoles than the game's region. The emulator uses the same cyrcles that PSOne's processor is using for each region to boot a game. So booting a game that it's out of the region of the PS3 (can) cause video/audio out of synch.
Crash 3 and Metal Gear Solid both confirmed working as well as Captains save method as per instructed. Seems like just yesterday people were calling Multiman's ability to back up PS1 games a waste of time. Lol...Awesome!
Crash 3 and metal Gear are alright on the list on Page 11. Already been confirmed working all day.
As for Multimans ability to "backup" the games?...uhh No it can't "play" the backed up games lol...I think you misread what it can or can't do. It can play the "disc" backups not virtual backup files. Not yet anyway.

What I did was
-delete memory cards
-take out disc
-follow advice
-load game in multiman(not from filemanager)

Also FF9 was already confirmed working.
Yeah, I already read they worked that's why I tried them. I don't have a drive in my computer that is capable to dump a PS1 disc. That's why it's handy to be able to do it on my ps3 and transfer the files so I can then make my back-ups...Capiche?

I tried inuyasha feudal faiy tale and it doesn't work. This is one of those games that wont work right with any emulators and here i was hoping it might be different on a sony console itself sigh....
i need a little help i already made those changes but it says "memory card is not inserted in the game" that i have i will try to burn another game to check if it stays the same.
Got memory card to work following the steps posted above. The key thing I was missing was hitting triangle and assigning it to slot 1. Just loaded my Road Rash save.
Just added Street Fighter Collection 2 and Resident Evil Director's Cut Dual Shock to the list on page 11. Thanks guys for posting more. Also someone over at ps3crunch is saying Xploder cheat device is also working? I can't really confirm that. I'd like to see that confirmed by more than 1 person.
Another method for those 'undetected' backup discs...
Requirements:
- Kmeaw FW 3.55
- multiMAN v02.07.06
- A PS1 backup (CD-R) that IS detected in multiMAN XMMB as a PS1 game (not file manager).
- The PS1 backup (CD-R) that is NOT detected.
Method:
- While in multiMAN, make sure no disc is inserted (just in case).
- Insert the backup disc that gets detected by multiMAN as a PS1 disc.
- Press and choose Load.
- Wait for the game to start normally, to make sure wait until something from the game is on screen.
- Press the "PS" button
- 2 screens will come up, we dont want the regular XMB screen so press "PS" again
- While the lower menu is up Press the Eject button on your console (don't turn it off or anything, lets just get the disc out)
- Remove the disc, and insert the disc that does NOT get detected.
- Wait at least 10 seconds.
- Select "Reset the game" from the menu and hit "yes".
- Done!, the PlayStation boot logo should appear and the game should be loaded!
i really need a help when i create a slot it already assgins to slot 1 and in the games it shows "the memory is not inserted".
If the PS3 could talk it would say, "It's not you, it's me.". I've found that it's hit and miss. Some games work with it and some don't. Hopefully there will be some kind of fix for this or Deank will be able to add the feature.
Well I've tried 2 backups now and I still cant get the save working, maybe it's because my PS3 is picking up the games as audio cd's, that would make sense.
I'll try some more games tomorrow.
BTW the games I've tested are Rayman and Total Drivin' (both work fine except the audio is out of sync on them, Rayman more so than Total Drivin' tho)
Well, sometimes I run out of patience. All the *****ing and ignorance shorten the fuse. And since it is USELESS TO MOST OF YOU without the saves which you cant enable, because you are busy complaining, I will simply not include it in 2.08.
Whoa there buddy calm down. Not everyone said "It's useless so suck it!". I simply said what is playing a game when you cant save it? Pretty simple. Doesn't mean that your integration of the playability is useless just the fact that it wont fully hit the masses or those that want to do this until savegames are implemented. No reason to get mad and shut anyone out. That's not the way to make progress. Everyone applauds you for the excellent backup manager that you have created. It's excellent and if you haven't noticed (which I am sure you have) your backup manager is the only one implementing this feature. People are simply stating that it wont be "fully" useable until savegame features are in place. Doesn't mean you need to hurry and rush an update implementing it just means that playing a game without a save feature (such as Metal Gear) makes it kinda not worth even burning the disc and playing the game unless you can have that feature. That's all.
i tested some games:
parasite eve 2 US
gran turismo 2 arc/sim JAP
resident evil 3 PAL
chrono cross US
tomb raider 3 aolc US
the king of fighter 97 JAP
the king of fighters 98 JAP
the king of fighters 99 JAP
all works fine, but save game don't work
I tried Crash Bandicoot Warped and Namco Museum Vol. 5. Both worked fine. I was able to save with Crash. I set up and assigned my virtual memory card prior to loading multiman.
-Rurouni Kenshin: Ishin Gekitouhen - JPN working
-Wild Arms - USA working
-Point Blank 1, 2 & 3 all PAL working
-Fear Effect (4 discs) - USA working
-3 in 1 Vol. 17 - The King of Fighters '96, '97 & '98 - JPN (no psx mm logo, boot with ps1_emu)
-Legend of Legaia - USA working
-Fighting Force 2 - PAL (no psx mm logo, boot with ps1_emu)
Save does work now for me, just delete and make new and set ps memcard to slot 1 with and reboot, start multiman, put in game load, voila, save work!!!
One question for who got the game to work with save and load what cfw you guys are, because i am in kmeaw tried and nothing... thx
Kmeaw FW 3.55 (Original, no spoof)

Memory card work for all of them (Save / Load).
Note: If you get a message when starting a game that says "Data not found" it doesn't mean that the memory card is not there, just go to the game options and Create a save there.
Someone reported The King of Fighters '99 [J] with Saves not working but the [U] version just worked fine for me, I will try to get the [J] version and see the results.

Ok thanks for the updates everyone. I just now edited my Page 11 Compatibility List with what games I saw people tested. The front page version of my list needs to be updated. asap And someone recently posted a wiki page that has a list but not sure if its as updated.

Hi guyz. i want to share to those people who doesn't have ps1 games... www.doperoms.com here you can dload ps1 game and burn it in cd-r... hope this helps...
One more game tested, this one was reported not working with saves by someone, I have tested the King of Fighters '99 [U] as well with good results.
PS3 Model: Fat (BC)

Game tested: The King of Fighters '99 (Japan) [SLPM-86462]

Boot using Breaker Pro: -
Memory card works: Yes
I recommend to use the Swap Disc / Breaker Pro method instead of running the SELF from the file manager for 'undetected' discs, just in case.
Bust a Move 2: Dance Tengoku Mix(J) is CONFIRMED working by me!!! :D I LOVE THAT GAME! Things are finally heating up in the scene again! I can smell a 3.6+ CFW; I'm smelling the scent of PSN just around the corner!
if memory card doesnt work for you try updating to multiMAN 2.07.06 if you are not already, and load games directly from the multiMAN XMB. I found that games that get recognized by the XMB recognize the memory card, and games that have to be loaded in file manager do not recognize the memory card.

No links to ROMs please, lets keep this clean. Google is very easy to use.
I can't find find anywhere where I was complaining about this awesome find just giving my feed back so don't know why I'm being classed as a complainer. I even acknowledged you as an awesome dev . Sorry if somewhere in there you thought I was being rude
sonnyz I tested the one you asked

Well, sometimes I run out of patience. All the *****ing and ignorance shorten the fuse. And since it is USELESS TO MOST OF YOU without the saves which you cant enable, because you are busy complaining, I will simply not include it in 2.08.

I've found a bug for the memory card, I'm italian and when I create a MC ps3 named it with memory card xxx (xxx = anything you want). I've tried to rename the MC in "Internal Memory Card" and now it works! I think that the only method to use MC's is to rename them "Internal Memory Card". I hope can be useful ^_^

maybe i understood the problem with memory cards. if MM doesn't recognize your game in XXMB the trick I wrote above will not work. the only way to make mcs works is hope that MM recognize your game. i will test many other games with this method and after i will wrote my results in this topic.
Guys I will say it one more time so please read well...

Dude..what planet are you on? When did I run down multiman at all??? I can see how dealing with idiots who don't bother to read instructions and follow them correctly can make deank go crazy, but guess what? NEWS FLASH! That's part of the scene! There will always be retards and noobs in every scene so deal with it. What deank didn't have to do was class myself and a few other people as complainers just by default. I DIDN'T COMPLAIN AT ALL! You say he works hard and doesn't get any respect, why do you think that is? Cos he creates an awesome free product but gives it to people while looking down at them like they're idiots.having said that I love multiman and use it and am grateful for it but after reading this thread and seeing his every post was running someone down in some way, my respect for him has now gone out the window. I CONFIRM!!!
The memory card must have name "Internal Memory Card" (only on English). Otherwise, the emulator will not see it.

I'm not looking down at people here. Most of the time I'm trying to be as helpful as I can, but after I read 50 posts from people "until saves work - it is useless"... And like the other day with the the version which actually enabled this PSX stuff - about accessing optical discs... And again all the complaints how useless it is, and so on and so on.
It was 4am when I posted and may be I overreacted a bit. I spent the last two weeks reading, testing, reading, locking my PS3 over 50 times a day, just to make stuff work, so believe me, sometimes I can get upset in the early hours.
I only wish that people complain less and try to read more - that's the way to succeed.
Fantastic, fantastic breakthrough and I'm very grateful for everyone involved who is making PS1-Backups on the PS3 without a dongle a reality. Literally went through almost all of my gaming collection and sold everything off so I could consolidate all "retro" gaming to one console. This seems to be becoming a reality for the PS3 and I don't regret my decision one bit.
However, I've tested two games so far after going through a decade old bin of burned CD-Rs, here's what I've tested:
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - boots perfectly
- Smackdown 2: Know Your Role - boots perfectly
One problem I had, (and I'm sure I'm missing something here) is that my system recognizes the virtual memory cards during play, allegedly saves to them, but when I check the data on the XMB after exiting the PS1 game, it's completely blank. Just to clarify, I did name it "Internal Memory Card". What am I missing here?
Once again a thread of great news and once again all I see is people *****ing around asking why I can't do this or that, or whatever.
When comes the time you can actually read a thread that doesn't have every 1 of 3 posts being about someone complaining about everything?
Can't you enjoy what you have atm and let the things flow? Last day was great for the scene but still there's always someone whinning about something. If this pisses me off I wonder what the devs feel..

This may be a very stupid and therefore regrettable post but are you all playing psx games from the same region as the machine? Or has anyne got Jap/US games to run on a EUR Pal PS3?

Actually, I forgot to post this as well, but I'm on a US NTSC Phat PS3 and I got the French version of DBZ Ultimate Battle 22 to work, and I'm pretty sure that game is PAL because of the region. Anyway, it played perfectly. (Hope this answered your question a bit!)
I cannot believe there are some people bashing dean about save not working, not tested myself but people are saying saves are working, at least for those who bothered to realise that they have to create a virtual PS1 memory card, a feature which has been with the PS3 since day 1!
Last time I checked dean hasnt asked for a penny, not even donations for the awesome work he has done for us. I know how impatient we can get, especially when a new feature comes out and it's bugged, but dont go mouthing off at the one guy who, when he has time, will most likely fix it!
I honestly cannot believe the disrespect some people have, that said they are probably spoiled kids who throw tantrums when their parents dont get them what they want.
Also why arent you people abusing the guys making jfw-dh cfw? They are delaying it for at least 2 weeks! Or is it that you havent got what you want from them, and are afraid they wont release if you bash them? :P Bet when it is released the usual suspects will start bashing them about it.
Agree, and for deank, never mind those people. The work you do is great for the scene, made so much possible. just keep up your good work. and plse people enjoy what you have.
Give good feedback so the dev's can go with that.
don't complain, just help out
The sky is the limit

That is superb news! I can't believe more people are shouting about this aspect of the new feature.
Hopefully that will be the second best news of the day behind 'PSX games loading now on 3.41!' Not holding out tho so it's probably the best news of the day (although as I'm on 3.41 no use to me :s)
OK after like 30 tries it worked and just the exact time I booted again the game it didn't, my PS3 froze checking for memmory cards.
Sometimes you have to keep trying, but actually it works!

Dean
I'm very happy to see this side of you Deank and I apologize for maybe coming on as an egg. To be honost I can't actually imagine how it must be to take dumb questions from ignorant prunes regarding your awesome manager day in and day out so I'm in no position to argue. Adding some proof to that statement is the fact that I can barely stand this thread alone with peoples dumb questions so once again I apologize and commend you on your patience with noobs, your passion for multiman and your help to the scene
I'm pretty sure this is my first post, and it's going to be a long and aggressive one.
First things first, Deank, simply put, you're the man; you've created something infinitely useful, for free, and stuck by it since practically day 1 to make sure that it's something worthwhile; it most certainly is, Sir. There was a time when I had like 4 backup managers installed, and even though I may have used another for compatibility, I always had the latest multiMAN because there was always something new. Not to mention how many posts I've read of people wishing that they could boot directly into multiMAN XMMB mode, myself included.
Honestly, when I read this post, I initially thought "How many devs have actually looked at the files on the ps3? Wonder if they saw the drm and pspemu folders?", but never once did I think "Dang, Deank is liable if I don't see better results!" That's the beauty of homebrew and open source; they don't owe us anything but are willing to spend their time putting their skills to work for us. Although some may do so for the e-fame, the only posts prior to this thread that I've ever seen by Deank are those in which he either posted updates or spent MORE of his time troubleshooting for people. For something with no guarantee or warranty, he sure does back his product well.
Aside from Heroes like Graf, almost every dev in the ps3 scene has some kind of stain: Waninkoko and the bricks; Math and his sideline/king of the hill stances (if he really just wanted to let everyone who mattered know something was out there, he could hand it over to other devs instead of dangling it over everyone's heads); the way Geohot took all the credit, got sued, and turned tail.
And now what? They're going to get all worked up because just once he went off on someone? Who doesn't go off on someone on the internet? I have half a mind to verbally abuse half the member population on just about every post, and half my mind would be all I'd need for most of them. Screw 'em if they don't like it, Dean; take a break even, you've done quite a bit. When most devs started getting overly cautious in the ps3 scene I looked at Graf and laughed at them, but considering how consistently you contribute, if anything were to happen to you, people would be quite remiss if you hadn't done anything to cover yourself, because then we'd have no more awesome multiman updates.
I just woke up, so I know I ramble quite a bit, but the bottom line is that this guy, just like the rest of them, does more than any of you and asks nothing in return but to know what's bugging so he can fix it. Show a LOT of respect and back off.
i hate to burst anyones bubble but this has been avilable before any CFW before even Multiman. not the way it Has been. i even stated it on youtube and IRC but No One likes my method as its Ugly.and to be honest .. the method ha sbeen something Sony Never fixed to as Far as the PS1 days.
it required you to remove the top half of the PS3 Cover, then the top sheetmetal cover over the BD-Rom drive then the plastic Cover. its basicly the Swap trick
but what surprises me, you'd think Sony (well i dont know about FW 3.42+ as my PS3 was lost Just as the advent of Custom FW started,[to a Brick And Sony greedy grubby nazi's >_>) would of Fixed it by adding a 2nd Check .. you had to put in a Retail game (PS1 and PS2)but Wait till it Spins Down the Disc. Swap it w/ your Burnt Disc. and voila. but that method i saw No Save incompatibilities and everything would work in terms of compatibilities as the real thing.
i did find out What PS1 and PS2 Cheat discs work, PS2: CB 9.2 PS1 GS v4 everything else gave Errors, wouldnt load, triggered the incompatible Disc message,, Some games with cheats would freeze, some wouldnt load,
actually only one game had an incompatablity in this Method that i could test: Star Wars- Dark Forces (Controller would not respond.)

I like your method I used to do this too. I was going to post it but then I considered that this new way of booting is still just as relevant. It's just a lot less exciting for those of us who have been able to play backups for a long time.
This method apparently allows out of region games - did the swap method? I don't remember. I remember the original disk had to be the same region as the ps3 - obviously. Can't remember if it would accept different region backups though.

I just get a black screen. I do not know what I did wrong. I followed all the instructions. I have multiman 02.07.06, kmeaw CFW. I burned 3 games and none work, CTR, MGS, Crash bandicoot compilation.
Can someone try to run only ps1_emu.self with no disc in. Please respond to me if you get black screen.
I do have some PS1 backups which I've preferred to play on my PS2 for awhile. With the exact native quality of the PS1 console(for most game), plus the option for texture smoothing, the PS2 serves as a great choice. I also noticed how well the PSP handles PS1 games. When I compare the PS3 to my PS2 and PSP, it looks like ass. Is there any way to make the best out of picture quality on PS3 with PS1 games? I hope to start playing backups soon and help contribute to the compatibility list.
tl;dr:
Does the PS3 have equal if not better playback quality as the other 3 consoles(PS1, PS2 and PSP). Either way, what can I do to make the best of PS1 picture quality on my PS3?
I tried playing this on 3.41.
So far I get a black screen and forced to reboot manually.
It freezes the console.
Hopefully this will get implemented for us 3.41 users.

multiMAN 02.07.07 is available online and in the 1st post of mM's thread
multiMAN ver 02.07.07 UPDATE (20110928-161900).pkg (1.75 MB)
In this update about PSX games (FW 3.55 only):
* Proper management for Memory Card 1 and Memory Card 2 (thanks to moogie and squarepusher for the emulator debug log)
* The name of the memory card may be anything you wish
* Setting "Screen Mode" to "Full"
* Setting "Smoothing" to "On"
* Detecting PSX discs with Audio tracks (now all PSX discs detected properly)
If you want "Saves" and "Memory Cards" to work, make sure that your CREATE at least one memory card in XMB/Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2).
Have in mind that EVEN if you don't assign a slot for a memory card from XMB, multiMAN will search for your memory cards and will assign all of them in the emulator. Do not use the "Assign Slots" menu in the emulator - it will freeze. The cards will be already assigned.
For all this to work you must launch the game from the PSX black disc icon in XMMB Game column and not the emulator self!
deank kudos for you man, hmm game picture maybe?? hahaha just kiddin...ps2 is up next, ill fool around with the esr things a bit.
oooh for the info i have a CECH Phat 40 Gig PAL ps3.
unfortunatly ff7 still no saving T_T but the work of deank is fantastic. thank you magic developer!

if I say there still no saving means that ff7 still not recognized by MM and still don't start without file manager!
you posted the guide I used to discovery the bug of previous version of MM...
well i tried ff7, ff8, vagrant story, brave fencer musashi and none of them recognized the memory card but i tried rival schools, siphon filter (man that game has terrible control), castlevania symphony of the night, r-type, and soul blade and it saves normally.
this is great news indeed so thanks to deank(the hardest worker ps3 dev in the scene) and the guy that found this tweek!!!!! but has anyone tried this method for ps2 games since i can't try out right now....studyin for an exam

THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR PS2 GAMES.
^^^ This should be added to the headline of this thread, so people will stop asking this on EVERY PAGE.
3 Updates in like 12 hours...!
deank, I mean seriously, you are a milestone in PS3 scene, a rough diamond!
Also thank you for working around the memmory card issue, it was really frustrating, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't sometimes it would take me like a whole minute accessing memory card, but now all this is history.
Forget what all these s***bags say here, they are like the children in a toystore that their parents cannot afford to buy them all the toys that the shop has. These people shouldnt matter to you, either way, life in internet and real life is filled with those people, we have to find a way to ignore them.
If people start to make such posts don't worry, everyone that believes in you will shut him up, you don't need even to make the effort in answering!
multiMAN 02.07.07 is available online and in the 1st post of mM's thread
multiMAN ver 02.07.07 UPDATE (20110928-161900).pkg (1.75 MB)
In this update about PSX games (FW 3.55 only):
* Proper management for Memory Card 1 and Memory Card 2 (thanks to moogie and squarepusher for the emulator debug log)
* The name of the memory card may be anything you wish
* Setting "Screen Mode" to "Full"
* Setting "Smoothing" to "On"
* Detecting PSX discs with Audio tracks (now all PSX discs detected properly)
If you want "Saves" and "Memory Cards" to work, make sure that your CREATE at least one memory card in XMB/Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2).
Have in mind that EVEN if you don't assign a slot for a memory card from XMB, multiMAN will search for your memory cards and will assign all of them in the emulator. Do not use the "Assign Slots" menu in the emulator - it will freeze. The cards will be already assigned.
For all this to work you must launch the game from the PSX black disc icon in XMMB Game column and not the emulator self!
DeanK I don't know what to say, you are amazing! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Now to get to work backing up my PS1 originals and playing them again
My PS1 died a long time ago and I liked having a BC PS3 but some of my games are rather rare and though I enjoy them, I am hesitant to use a slot loading device to play them. (Bad experiences in the past with a slot loading PC)
this is great news indeed so thanks to deank(the hardest worker ps3 dev in the scene) and the guy that found this tweek!!!!! but has anyone tried this method for ps2 games since i can't try out right now....studyin for an exam
As soon as I get out of class I'm gonna try Kingdom Hearts. I'll post and let you know how it worked. I know it was posted that it doesn't work but I have a CECHA01 and since it plays PS2 games anyways I wanna see if it will play back-ups.
*facepalms* Like we all have said...Ps2 games do NOT work. lol...I wish they did but they don't. I can't believe you people are still discussing ps2 games. lol...And I'd like to thank Deank again for updating MM. Amazing news. I am uber excited.
As for the list I was updating I now am too overwhelmed. lol So whoever wants to edit the list over on Page 11 with the games people have just recently posted I'd appreciate it.
OH! and other games to test are basically all Wrestling games including wcw Thunder and the others, wwf Smackdown 1 and 2, Attitute and wwf warzone need to be tested. Also I don't think anyone has tested Saga Frontier Yet, or the sequel. Lets see...oh yeah and
Breath of Fire 3 and 4. And Konami Arcade Classics, Sledstorm and Star Ocean 2: The Second Story. But since most games seem to work but alot of not been really tested so that's why I say that. Just to make sure you know.

Imo its not a 1 mans job ( for you), everyone can contribute and post it on the wiki.
Oh really? Well that's even better. If we can get people to do it that would be amazing. And a a hell of a lot easier and productive. lol
panda yeah I know right? gosh if that was possible I may not have to go out and buy 50 cd-r's xD but yeah like you said....one step at a time. One day at a time...still uber excited though.
Sorry if someone mentioned this before (all I did was skip to the bottom to post it quick). What about games that require a disk swop such as mgs? Cos you take a ps1 game out and the screen goes black with no recovery so how would that work when you need to put disk 2 in? Just something I picked up. THANX Deank for 02.07.07. Just got it and the new feature with the mem cards are awesome

lol Easy. Some of those games allow you to "save" first before it asks you to go to the next disc. If not...ummmm I am not sure...because if you are allowed to save first before it went to the swap disc screen then it'd be easy...all you'd have to do is reset everything and load up the next disc like your putting in another game. I think anyway...because then you'd load your game I think?
i hear ya so far been reading thread only found one 3.41 use reporting success...probably because of the lvl1 lvl2 edits in 3.55 kmeav so i think we would be forced to change cfw...which would be slightly painful. i wish there was a patch or something but stuff like that might have to be changed during firmware install process...i will post here if i find anything so far on hermes 3.41 i tried parasite eve no luck black screen...does at least show up as a disc in multiman though...
personally i like the lowest firmware possible in this situation though you might be right underball looks like its a no brainer now that psn games are unlocked to go to 3.55 i had been worried about breaking my psn games (since i can't go on their stupid service) but looks like that's not factor anymore...lol the things ya do to keep getting your everyday shooter fix every now and then...
I think the main question here is to try and understand why this feature is NOT available to 3.41 users at the moment. So far I've had no answer to what technical reasons are behind this being unavailable to 3.41 other than (I believe although not confirmed) that the 3.41 Hermes base does not recognise anything regarding psx.
Please please please before being bombarded with the usual 'just update to 3.55' comments I'm pretty sure there are many who will be unsure and uncertain about updating (many may never have 'upgraded' their consoles themselves you know). So will really be hoping that this is possible.
The main question that 3.41 users need to know is that will this feature EVER be available to them. Is it a technical possibilty? If not then it would seem that this is the main reason to upgrade. However be wary that the posts regarding updating to 3.55 questions will now explode again
Accessing 'unauthorized' optical discs requires changes in the Hypervisor/LV1 memory. These changes require access to the HV memory with specific functions which apply changes to specific memory offsets. I'm aware of all these things for 3.55 (because of what graf did and from sacd-ripper app), but I have no idea about 3.41, so I can't do anything.
Updating to 3.55 from 3.41 is easy enough:
1) Reboot your PS3 without a dongle (if you use one)
2) Download and save kmeaw's PS3UPDAT.PUP in /PS3/UPDATE folder of a USB stick
3) Install the Update
It takes ~5 mins total. I did it over 5 times already and never had to do anything else. No need to install 3.55 OFW first and also you won't lose any info on your HDD. That's it.
Goddamn, this just might be a dealbreaker for ,leaving my trustworthy 3.41 and jump on the 3.55 multiman train.
And by the way Dean (off-topic) the SNES9000.pkg v.1.0 from the multiman thread won't install on 3-41. Just wanted to see if you could have a look or tell Squarepusher...
Thanks for ALL your superp work!

That sounds easy.
Most of games run already on 3.41, so if I update to 3.55 would they still run?
I also use a dongle (BlackcatUSB).
Would I have to update the firmware to make it work with Kmeaw?
Demonhades writes that using ps1 backups on cd can harm your bdrom on ps3.
ps1emu self is using direct acess to bdrom without changing parametrs of it. It can harm laser and mechanism. I just read it on demonhates portal with google translate. But i understand what they write about.
I`d like to wait wile someone will do mount ps1 folder or iso to bdemu.
Some games like Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy Tactics, I could see that the multiman does not recognize the disk. When checking your files on the PC, I noticed that these files were hidden and I believe that for this reason the multiman is not able to recognize the psone disc.
I found another way to run these disks. I ran a disc of any psone, eject the disc and put the damn disc with hidden files and in XMB (by pressing the ps button) I choose reset command and I can ran without problems, including recognizing the memory cards.
Sorry for my English. So I intend to help with this information.
Somebody should post in the front page, that this method does NOT work on official firmware 3.41 with Dongle.
Or more people willing to test on such firmware please do so, and confirm if it works.

Very funny indeed. I wonder how does the BD drive work when you insert an original PS disc (CD)?
I don't blame him on commenting multiMAN's features all day, since he is probably ready with JFW and wondering what else to do.
multiMAN passes all parameters needed by the emulator and the emulator doesn't access the disc directly - it uses system functions - the same functions the WHOLE PS3 uses when it accesses an optical disc. I hope he'll educate himself a bit before posting stuff which embarrasses him.

Great work as well ^^v
Thanks for everything.
When on 3.55 kmeaw you won't need the dongle at all. The two things you'll have to do:
1) Make sure you use the ORIGINAL EBOOT.BIN files for all games (if you changed any)
2) Run "fix permissions" package once (if needed). More info in 1st page of multiMAN's thread.

Demonhades is a retard who lies about crap all the time to get attention. Right now he's pissed because JFW is Vaporware, and Multiman keeps moving forward.

What a HUGE lie.
I predicted on an other post that Demonhades upon seeing those news he would be pi$$ed off.
I turned out correct.
I said that I'm skeptical about how to treat him, I don't like to be negative without a handy reason to but for sure now I can say that he constaly says stupidities.
Proof?
First the stupidity with that he can ''remotelly brick consoles''.
I gave a simple description why the hardware of the PS3 does NOT allow such thing he described, it was just to scare people (noobs) who have no clue about hardware restrictions.
Now he says that thing about CDs...
deank went on and answered why this is a complete stupidity what he said.
I don't know if can really do the work he is previewing of but, one thing he can do for sure is say (I cant believe that I use this word) Bu11$hit...
I just wanna thank Deank for taking time to reply to our comments/messages.
Him like some of us has things to do, either school or work, and he still makes room for developing new improvements on multiMAN.
Sorry to post again about this but I just noticed it.
Notice that what Demonhades says. Isn't it obvious that this is another attempt to hit deank?
People, don't be his puppets, not until he releases something.

Many many thanks for the technical reasons DeanK. TO be honest, with the new found PSn releases (3.55 only) and , more importantly, your PSX implementation, it really does look like the time for many to make the leap to 3.55.
Again many people will have games which will no longer work due to 3.41 specific eboots and as I stated earlier some will NOT have modded or maintained their PS3s themselves remember. So it will be a process of trial and error finding the titles which require new eboots along with finding the replacement eboots themselves!
Obviously emulators will have to be reinstalled but I'm pretty sure most will be savvy with that.
Deank please add my thanks to the many from the ps3 scene for all your work and effort not only keeping the scene alive but granting everyone here the opportunity to enjoy all of this.
I am on the newest mm so the audio bug doesnt apply anymore.
Hehehe like to see this in xlink kai, i am a bit out of practice with the old tekken 2, 1 of my favorites, i am now playing with king against yoshimitsu (stage 7) on hi-res grapics hdmi woohoooooeeeewww. PSx is back hehehe.
I don't think there are ANY issues on PAL machines. Most of the problems seem to be when people on NTSC machines try to play content from other regions.
I have no issues (on my PAL PS3) to play EUR/JAP/US and I notice NO glitches whatsoever.

Hi Dean,
There were on the Cobra dongle when I first got it, but they were Ironed out in the newer revisions.
Do you think it will be posible to be able to boot backed up ISO's from Multiman and do you think you are closer to being able to implement this?
* Setting “Screen Mode” to “Full”
* Setting “Smoothing” to “On”
Where would you change this settings? Under MultiMAN or regular PS3 XMB? Thanks in advance.
while in-game, press PS button, then press it again, then go to "other options", when you change something make sure to press X before exiting or it won't change.

Is anyone else not getting fullscreen?
I get a black boarder around the edge of my screen.
It's definitely set to fullscreen because if I set it to normal the game display is even smaller.

I get that too but only roughly quarter of an inch on the left and right.
hi thanks deank never posted here so here we go i have slim on 3.55 k and have re3 ,twisted metal and a jp war path fighting game and all play on retail disk from xmb without loading mm
I'm not sure what demonhades is going on about, but I encountered some psx backups making a loud grinding noise about 5-10 seconds after putting the disc in, and making abnormally loud noises while loading tasks. Maybe this is what demonhades meant?? Has anyone else encountered this?

What demonhades says is of no value at all.
The words of a 5 year child would have more value.
People, please don't annoy deank. It is confirmed as a LIE, a marketing trick for Demonhades and a personal hit against deank.
Next time please use the search form and read the previous posts.
I can't just ignore them...
It's so ultimatelly unfair for deank what those infants post.
I hate when they actually succeed on annoying deank and even after he asked them to stop and stay on topic on his thread they feel like they can post whatever they pull off their a**es...
Somebody must learn them that there is a cost of their acts and if their parents are unable to do that by taking away their PCs or rush them to a madhouse, there are always other ways...
No prob.
Now who's gonna be a dear and send my clarification why he said was a lie to him and his ''people''?
I can also provide a clarification why this thing that he said that ''he can brick remotelly our consoles...'' is also a lie.
I really want to know what excuse will he use...
Now I got worried someone please deank the scene or could you please respond if this is true of demonhades?

My Metal Gear Solid backup works flawlessly. But my Smackdown Just Bring It, Mortal Kombat 4, and Duke Nukem backups aren't even recognized by Multiman.
I'm running 3.55 Kameaw and Multiman 2.07.07
I think I may have made a mistake during burning (since discjuggler doesn't even let me attempt to burn the later unsuccessful backups).
when y start the ps1 games for the browser all it's ok
but when i try tho start the game off the xmmb the image off game i am using do not means in the partitory game in xmmb of multiman
someone help me

I can confirm that disk swapping to disk 2 works without any tricks on Abe's Exoddus (no saving required).
Currently this is the only multi disk game I can test since it's the only one with a stage select that allows me to skip straight to the second disk, but I don't see why other games wouldn't work the same way.
Can anyone test some of the other games that don't let you save at disk swap?
Conversely I can load a save game from disk 1 on disk 2 and get past the "switch to disk 1" screen.
It would seem the PS3 does not check the disk authenticity before loading it.
lol i just grabed the bandicoot 3 pack works perfect but i think i have to change resolution down to original just looks funny at 1080p
and just one thing getting use two the controller is different forgot how to use it
lol @ trolls like elcido6 coming to this thread trying to cause a ruckus
Weren't you the same guy in the other forum who couldn't get off of dh's nuts?
demonfraud and his oompa loompas are out in full force it seems.
Ignore all trolls in this thread. Everything that needs to be confirmed has ALREADY BEEN CONFIRMED. Speculation is futile.
not trying to troll anyone lol, just trying to get a straight answer to a serious question, my ps3 was making noises i have never heard before and if there is something abnormal going on inside my console because of the back-ups i'm using there are certain questions i'm entitled to ask. everyone is on such ****ing high alert god damn everyone just needs to relax, you might live longer.
by the way anyone else encountering the loud noises coming from the bdrom, make sure your disc doesn't have alot of scratches or fingerprints on it, and make sure you are using good media. (thanks to PLAYER 1 over at PS3crunch for the tip.)
Just tested it, I can also confirm that Parasite Eve will swap with a backup disk without any fuss.
When it says insert disk 2 insert your backup of disk 2 and you are good to go.
Sounding like good news for us multi disk game fans.
I dont think thats possible. Thyough I am sure in time someone will figure out how to mount PS1/PSX iso's.
thanks for a quick reply...

May i know what is the correct folder structure when we back-up ps1 games in hdd?
Unsure. The current PS1/PSX Games I own Multiman will not back them up properly. From what I understand though it will either save them as an .iso file or a folder containing all the Games files in the same structure as they are on the disk.

- Done!, the PlayStation boot logo should appear and the game should be loaded!
Ya SOME of them. Like FF maybe. But a few like mgs, requires a mid game swop where you can't just load the save game from disk1 which means we won't be able to play from disk 2 onwards. Oh well. Ways are always waiting to be found
Well stevo so far from my experience testing games with this, the ps3 does not check disks when the disk swap pops up like the ps2 did.
Every game i've tested so far disk swapping has worked fine with or without the option to save at the menu.
Try some games yourself, all I did was download save files from gamefaqs for later disks and loaded them on the wrong disks to force a disk change screen. Everytime the PS3 has accepted my backups no questions asked at these screens.

Better yet....play the game on ps1 or ps2 right before you have to do the disc swapping...do it on that then save it on the next disc then load it on ps3. Done deal. And of course transfiring the save file using a Memory card adapter to get it onto the ps3's VMC
only one idea! When ps1emu.self let us run the games from disc wouldn't it be possible that we change this, so the self starts the game from hdd not from disc?
i need help as i m new
So my ques are
What is
Boot using Disc Swap and Boot using Breaker Pro
i had tried one ps1 game on multiman Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense and the game did not work got black and ps3 got stunk.thx
Rax I actually mean you don't have to do any of that. Play the game on your backup of disk 1 then when it says put in disk 2 put in your backup of disk 2.
There seems to be nothing more to it. But i've only tested Parasite Eve and Abe's Exoddus.
Wow, this is great! Always wanted to replay some classics. BTW, does this work with games on the HDD, cause loading CD-s is soooooooooo slooooooooooooowww? I'm gonna test MGS1 in a few moments.
are you on drugs because in 1 thread you say you havent got a CFW-capable PS3 in another thread you said you been using kmeaw so make you mide up which you got cfw or a non CFW-capable PS3 , if you havent got cfw you wont be able to use this and i think you know that so stop trolling and making stuiped posts in thread
Crash bandicoot3 and spyro the dragon3 and 2 work on my 3.41 cfw
So what cfw are you running? I'm using hermes 3.41 and got the BHR (blackscreen/hard reset) when trying MK2. Someone asked if Rebug 3.41 allows this method of loading ps1 backups, I am curious too. I don't have anything against 3.55 but I like 3.41 and would rather not move up to 3.55 if I don't have too. That being said, I am willing to make the change for the ability to play ps1 backups and psn games. On a side note, there are too damned many cfw's/mfw's/nfw's etc out there! I guess I'll go with kmeaw3.55 if i move up, unless anyone can tell me a better one!

I guess I'll go with kmeaw3.55 if i move up, unless anyone can tell me a better one!
kmeaw is very good and stable also so is rebug but a little more advanced. as far as the ps1 backups go. idk as i havnt messed with them.
does somebody know if a psx game even saves with this method?
even when using the lastest multiman etc. mounting the ps1 memory card etc. ?
cause i see the red light blinking when saving, but when i check my memory card, its not there?
PS1 games work in each PS3 version. The PS2 games require BC PS3.
Deank did you know music from the xmb can played while playing ps1 games?I tested this out of sheer boredom and was wondering if you can will implement a feature that can disable the ingame music for ps1 games?

what about a multi psx disc? could you put more than one psx game to a cd or perhaps multiple psx games on a dvd? i havent tried it... i havent even turned my ps3 on for a few months....

Did that too.
Can't happen since the emulator and the game cannot recognise and trigger such function.
You have to do it manually IF the game has an audio options menu and mute the music.
It worked on Tekken/Crash series.

Mann an "iMac and a Macbook Pro" are real pcs all these other companies are still selling computers with i3 processors in them times have changed ! people want faster stronger durable computers I can go a day sometimes without charging my macbook can't say that for sony gateway dell or hp maybe if i shove out 600 for an entry level vaio ill understand lol
I was teasing you, but in answer to your actual question, use Nero on the laptop you have as well. That way you are free to use your Mac with no interuptions (I have an old laptop I use just for things like that)
EDIT I did have a Mac btw, and I did go back as they ARE too restrictive in what you can do with them
Hello everyone.
This method, works only for PS1 games.
But there is a way to play PS2 games on all PS3, on every firmware, including 3.72 tested by me.
If you remember a few years ago, in the begining of ps3 scene, we saw the first steps to enter on Service Mode.
Well, after that, no one as ever talk about it..
When sony anounced the PS2 classics on USA PSN store, then i started to think, how could that be possible if PS3 after 60GB and 80GB(USA), to play PS2 games, if, i thought, it wouldnt have any "emulator".
Sony says the games are in there original form, no changes, no trophies, no remaster, etc...
I decided to test with my jailbreak pen, on entering on service mode, on my PS3 80GB and a 160GB slim of a friend, if it was possible.
I tested the GT4original) and PES 6(backup with swap magic) on those 2, and they all worked just fine, GT4 is able to go 1080i, and other 3 more games, that i dont remember the names in this moment.
Then i posted a tutorial on a portuguese tracker, as im portuguese, for that, im sorry if my english is not good.
And i decided to test it on 3.72 with a progskeet, and if you remember a game called, if im not wrong Rayman, it was the first video i saw that time on youtube, invisible caracters, walls, well, complete buggy lool.. I think that time we were stil on 2.40, or something like that. I've tested the same game on FW 3.55 and 3.72.
On 3.72 works perfectly well on the slim, on 3.55 stil as some glitchs, but it is well playable, lets say a rate of 96% on 3.55?
I havent tested yet the save option, forgot completly about it, but i will try and see if also works.
Hope to see it on front page maybe, and some one to test it.

You think you could give us the link to your tutorial or make a new one cuz i'm willing to be a tester.
I am running Rebug 3.55.2 and multiMAN 2.09.01. I created a PS1 memory card and assigned it to slot one. Then I started multiMAN, followed by the PS1 backup CD.
In the game, it says it was successful every time I save a game. However, when I quit the game, the memory card does not contain anything. When I relaunch the PS1 game, it never sees a previously saved game.
I have tried a handful of games that are playable, but they all have this save issue.
Any ideas would be appreciated...
UPDATE: I should have researched more. It seems the card assigned in Slot 1 needs to be named the default "Internal Memory Card". I changed the name of my card to the default name, and the saves suddenly appeared. I then renamed the card back to my original name, and the saves still appear. It seems the default name must be used when creating a new save file.
wtf today is great day for the ps3 scene first the psn stuff gets decrypted and now this, this is what i want to hear now we just need the JFW DH CFW to be released an working
A few ps1 games that didnt boot from multiman i got working with Import Player, and i noticed that you can change the ps1 bios in dev_flash i tested all my bios and they all work, accept for one that just shows the memorycard and audio player
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
you guys should download the psx hacker kit its got everything
if you change your bios, lanch the emulator and remove the disc when it says "sony computer entertainment". This will leave you in the main menu of the ps1,
the memorycard manager and audio player work fine.
I wonder why it still freezes when you start the emu without a disc in the drive?

Yes that is strange...how I understand it works is that the ps1 emu go to the BDVD and operates using the system.cnf file and using the attributes/info contained in there. For PS1 games the attribute BOOT is what points to the SlUS..etc, but the funny thing is it operates also on BOOT2 which is for ps2 games but probably passes it as a Boot attribute as it posts the PS1 Logo but with missing text and graphics elements. So without a disc in, there is no system.cnf file thus should either throw and error and/or return to XMB (how I understand it) but instead it just freezes....how strange lol.

09-27-2011
12:12 PM
Well ps1_emu black screen-ed my ps3, netemu showed the first 1 screens and died, and newemu was the same as normal emu self. Although some guys at the other forums say it's working so I'm gonna test this a bit more.

I've tried this since no CFWs were out, always i get a black screen...

12:23 PM

OH and another thing I'd like to know from people testing this. Is can any of you load a save file? I know saving doesnt seem to work but...lets say you got a save file on the virtual memory card...ingame does it allow you to load that save file?

Dean commented over at ps3crunch and said something about possibly adding those ps1_emu selfs to Multiman I think like an option to choose which one. Oh and Dean also said its possible that the reason games may not work is because apparently they may need to be the same region as your ps3 your using. I don't believe that 100% though since someone recently said that a jap game worked. So I don't know.
09-27-2011
01:14 PM
Especially with the current RSX access, it would be possible to port the PS1PCX (or whatever it was called) to the PS3. It has much better emulation, better compatibility as the PS3 has and much better upscaling.
09-27-2011
01:14 PM

Ps1 - Marvel vs capcom

- Tekken 3
All works flawlessly is so genuis and simple lol

Ps2 - Naruto Accel 2 Jap no go
- Naruto accel 1 No go
- DBZ tenkai 3 EUR no go
- smackdown vs raw 2008 US no go

The 'feature' to launch PSX backups from CD/DVD was in multiMAN since version 02.07.01 from almost 2 weeks ago.
In the latest update 02.07.05 you can launch the PSX disc from XMMB Game column (you can chose Load or Load (Net)) to pick different emulator (ps1_emu or ps1_netemu).
No one said anything about PS2 games, so don't get so exited.

It is in the changelog for 02.07.00/01:
* Added: LV2 access rights to use LV1 Storage Manager (syscall 864)
* Added: LV1 patch for user access to sys_storage functions (syscalls 600 to 623)
+ few more things, which make no sense to put in a changelog, because it is too technical.
It is all possible because of graf_chokolo's documentation on Hypervisor Reverse Engineering.

And I'm on Kmeaw 3.55.(people have been posting their specs so I did too lol)

back on topic,
Can some confirm this game: Wu tang - Taste the pain,
that was freaking awesome game, i really enjoyed it, because i won't buy a ps1 game when it's not working, or pirated it if i can't find the game here in belgium, and i don't use paid transactions thru the web like ebay etc...., thx

03:23 PM
I have a copy of METAL GEAR SOLID INTEGRAL JAP and it worked. I am pleased that it was so simple and am looking forward to the programs to come with a save option. I am sure ps2 will be playable since psx is now...just a matter of time. Multiman rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

03:23 PM
Black screen for me. First i tryed just ps1_emu.self without any game and it boot me back to xmb. Now i tryed with game and get black screen. Then i tryed ps1_emu.self again without game and got black screen again. I messed up something, HELP!

If you have a psp you can just as easily get it hacked and convert whatever ps1 game you want to play on it.

lol Oh yeah I remember that program. In fact I used it years ago. But yeah except this isn't needed when there is already pretty much every ps1 game converted to psp. :P And already downloadable. I don't see why anyone would do this right now when their game they want is already converted for them someplace else. lol

The ps2 selfs contain the portion of bios that is needed for each of them to work properly according to what type of emulation they do (HW/H&SW/Full SW).
I can't swear that this wouldnt work though, I've been surprised way too many times, with this situation a perfect example.
SO TRUE.

Metal of Honor dos work 3.41 dos not work with ps1 isos
09-27-2011

Added Metal gear to that list. From the video I saw it looked like the Japanese version...so I can't confirm which version works and what doesn't.

04:20 PM
has something to do with the way the cfw has been build or something, i think.
do you know if i can get from 3.55 wk, 2 kmeaw, but just using system update? cause otherwise i have 2 completely reinstall my ****
09-27-2011
04:21 PM
I think you just need to go back to official 3.55 from recovery mode. Then you can install Kmeaw over that from recovery.

There's no other way to play PS1 backups on the PS3 - until now.
So Rax909's claim of "duh these are already downloadable" makes no goddamn sense if we're talking about the PS3. Sure, you can download all of them. Your PS3 won't do anything with them.
09-27-2011

good im glad to see more good news this should hold the scene for awhile

Notice carefully that some games have speed issues, I thing you should mention it.
Plus, dunno if anyone thought of this, which is obvious that those cases are related:
Isn't the full software emulator of PS2 having EXACTLY the same issue/bug with what this tutorial has too? Unable to use savegames...
Cobra doesn't have that issue, so it means they can be fixed or we're missing something and I'M PRETTY SURE I KNOW WHAT IT IS!
In order to avoid being kind of off topic, I'll post the reason i think this happens on the multiMan thread since I'm sure what's the bug that is causing it!

chitalov oh we all know Multiman has been updated.
Japanese version of Final Fantasy 1 and 2, Final Fantasy 8, and Japanese version of FF Tactics also needs to be tested.

tony hawks 1 pal working for me, kneaw 3.55 latest multiman.
09-27-2011
05:13 PM
Ok Calo I added Tony Hawk 1 to the list on page 11. Thank you for testing that.
So the rest of the Tony Games need to be tested as well...but I assume the second may end up working, not sure about the others though.
09-27-2011
05:15 PM
There is a Game called "Shao-lin" or "Shaolin), can someone please give a try on them? that would be great! cheers

I tried here and work... But in other way i simple put the ps1 disc on ps3, open multiman and in Games the was the icon of PLASTATION Disc, i just press the x button and work perfect.
09-27-2011
05:27 PM
Rayman works almost perfectly (music isn't in sync with the levels)
But gameplay is perfect.

05:38 PM
Just had a quick blast on a backup of Pandemonium and it works fine.
09-27-2011
05:43 PM
Also Muffy what version of Pandemonium did you test? NTSC(US or Japanese) or PAL? And you tested the first game or the second? I guess it had a sequel.
09-27-2011
05:46 PM
Jonah Lomu - PAL also working but did not show up on Multiman XMB had to launch via ps1emu.self file.
09-27-2011
05:53 PM
Rayman - PAL

05:53 PM
hey guys, i tried it out, but the save game still needs some solving, anyone tried to mount slot 1 with an original psx game save it and then press the PS button and eject the original and insert the copy then press reset game???
i have a big collection of burnt games on different cd-r/cd+r and cd-rw so ill try to test, but first the save game issue.
So far Rival Schools Disc 1 - USA works fine for me, ill test chrono cross in a bit ooooooh and deank about multiman, since mm semi boots the ps1 game, maybe you could inplent the virtual memory card in mm so it boots up also with the ps1emu, just thinking out loud :-)))) keep up the good mm work man, i'd like to see a picture of a new logo mm white t-shirt (that would be awsome)
peace
09-27-2011
05:59 PM
bust a groove 2 jap import works fine for me, no sound lag issues which is good for a music rythm game
09-27-2011
05:59 PM

09-27-2011
06:11 PM
Oh and I added more to the list on page 11.
09-27-2011
06:15 PM
R4 - Ridge Racer Type 4 [NTSC] works!

09-27-2011
06:15 PM
Capcom vs snk Pro and Megaman Legends 2 pal work fine
09-27-2011
06:26 PM
It's a step in the right direction. Without game save it's completely useless at this point unless you are intending to beat the entire game in one sitting lol. I say until we get the save game issue worked out this ain't much help to the masses. I still applaud the use of actually getting them functioning though.
09-27-2011
06:26 PM
sorry for the stupidity but i never got to burn a ps1 game ..
so i need to burn the format .bin in the disc and thats it ? cause it didnt work for me with crash bandicoot 3. please a lil help here T.T
09-27-2011
06:27 PM
Thanks for posting about those. I just added those on page 11 along side some more people posted over at ps3crunch. The list is getting bigger and bigger.
metalheavy your right without saving its useless to play the games. (Except games that not needed to save like 2 player fighting games lol)
but yeah...but I assure you its best to get this on a list of working games first knowing they work ahead of time...and once the save function is dealed with we will know what works and what doesn't.
The list I am updating will continue to be on page 11 for those wondering what games work.
09-27-2011
06:31 PM
I don't really see the point of a list, 98% will work.

Mkay added both Front Mission 3 and Legend of Legaia...just need to know which version.
09-27-2011
06:52 PM
Anything pecial need to be done when burning the games? As in burned at low speeds, must be a CD-R or a CD+R? Though it would waste a disk can the games be burnt to DVD_R disks (I only have DVD's on hand currently)? Never had to burn a ps1 backup before

Guys I will say it one more time so please read well...
- Turn on you PS3 console
- DONT open multiMAN
- In the GAME column look for "Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)"
- Create a PS1 memory card
- Set it to Slot 1 (Press Triangle while selecting the Memory Card, then Assign it)
- Now, run multiMAN
- Insert your backup disc
- Load it
- Play
- Memory Card is in Slot 1, no need to mess with it anymore.

09-27-2011
08:06 PM
very weird, it now works for me 2, what i did is deleted the ps2 and ps1 vir. memory cards, ejected the game, rebooted the ps3, created 1 vir. mem card for ps1 only and alligned it with
on slot 1, ejected the psx cd and rebooted the ps3 again and then i started the mm and booted with Load (net) voila, it saved um jammer lammy save with no problem. bit weird, it didn;t work for me, and after resets and a couple of tries it works, but for how long?? so thats it people, happy testing

To those reporting music out of sync issues, have these backups been tested on ps1 hardware/pc emus? Because there has always been an issue with games that have separate audio tracks. Does anyone know if backups made via MM preserves these in the same way that clonecd, for example, does?

HELLO my fellow citizens! Can someone please give me a guided instruction on how to properly burn a PSX disc onto a disc. Thank you.

08:26 PM
Rayman has always been a problem game to emulate on pc emulators due to the audio being out of sync.
But it works perfectly on psp (once converted) but still has the audio issues on PS3.

Crash 3 and Metal Gear Solid both confirmed working as well as Captains save method as per instructed. Seems like just yesterday people were calling Multiman's ability to back up PS1 games a waste of time. Lol...Awesome!

08:32 PM
As for Multimans ability to "backup" the games?...uhh No it can't "play" the backed up games lol...I think you misread what it can or can't do. It can play the "disc" backups not virtual backup files. Not yet anyway.
Also FF9 was already confirmed working.

Another method for those 'undetected' backup discs...
and choose Load.
- Press
- Wait for the game to start normally, to make sure wait until something from the game is on screen.
- Press the "PS" button
- 2 screens will come up, we dont want the regular XMB screen so press "PS" again
- While the lower menu is up Press the Eject button on your console (don't turn it off or anything, lets just get the disc out)
- Remove the disc, and insert the disc that does NOT get detected.
- Wait at least 10 seconds.
- Select "Reset the game" from the menu and hit "yes".
- Done!, the PlayStation boot logo should appear and the game should be loaded!
SeeYa!

Well I've tried 2 backups now and I still cant get the save working, maybe it's because my PS3 is picking up the games as audio cd's, that would make sense.
I'll try some more games tomorrow.
BTW the games I've tested are Rayman and Total Drivin' (both work fine except the audio is out of sync on them, Rayman more so than Total Drivin' tho)

if memory card doesnt work for you try updating to multiMAN 2.07.06 if you are not already, and load games directly from the multiMAN XMB. I found that games that get recognized by the XMB recognize the memory card, and games that have to be loaded in file manager do not recognize the memory card.

If you had to deal with whiny 12 year old ******s requesting **** all ****ing day wouldn't you be mad too? It gets annoying. If you actually care, donate or support him in some other way. Telling all your 9th grade BlOps playing friends that PS3 is so 1337 because it has multiMAN isn't helping Dean at all. He's done more work on his product than anyone else (save the hackers) and doesn't get any respect. He has the best loader on the market and I'm proud to have been able to watch his baby grow from a meager Backup Manager clone to a full fledged XMB replacement.

OK after like 30 tries it worked and just the exact time I booted again the game it didn't, my PS3 froze checking for memmory cards.
Sometimes you have to keep trying, but actually it works!

Swap it w/ your Burnt Disc. and voila. but that method i saw No Save incompatibilities and everything would work in terms of compatibilities as the real thing.
i did find out What PS1 and PS2 Cheat discs work, PS2: CB 9.2 PS1 GS v4 everything else gave Errors, wouldnt load, triggered the incompatible Disc message,, Some games with cheats would freeze, some wouldnt load,
actually only one game had an incompatablity in this Method that i could test: Star Wars- Dark Forces (Controller would not respond.)

but could it be possible with the ps2_emu.self and psp_emu.self too?
Or is it just an exploit in the ps1_emu.self used by multiman?

Either way, what can I do to make the best of PS1 picture quality on my PS3?

multiMAN 02.07.07 is available online and in the 1st post of mM's thread
multiMAN ver 02.07.07 UPDATE (20110928-161900).pkg (1.75 MB)
In this update about PSX games (FW 3.55 only):
* Proper management for Memory Card 1 and Memory Card 2 (thanks to moogie and squarepusher for the emulator debug log)
* The name of the memory card may be anything you wish
* Setting "Screen Mode" to "Full"
* Setting "Smoothing" to "On"
* Detecting PSX discs with Audio tracks (now all PSX discs detected properly)
If you want "Saves" and "Memory Cards" to work, make sure that your CREATE at least one memory card in XMB/Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2).
Have in mind that EVEN if you don't assign a slot for a memory card from XMB, multiMAN will search for your memory cards and will assign all of them in the emulator. Do not use the "Assign Slots" menu in the emulator - it will freeze. The cards will be already assigned.
For all this to work you must launch the game from the PSX black disc icon in XMMB Game column and not the emulator self!

deank, I mean seriously, you are a milestone in PS3 scene, a rough diamond!
Also thank you for working around the memmory card issue, it was really frustrating, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't sometimes it would take me like a whole minute accessing memory card, but now all this is history.

Just to make sure you know.

i hear ya so far been reading thread only found one 3.41 use reporting success...probably because of the lvl1 lvl2 edits in 3.55 kmeav so i think we would be forced to change cfw...which would be slightly painful. i wish there was a patch or something but stuff like that might have to be changed during firmware install process...i will post here if i find anything so far on hermes 3.41 i tried parasite eve no luck black screen...does at least show up as a disc in multiman though...
personally i like the lowest firmware possible in this situation though you might be right underball looks like its a no brainer now that psn games are unlocked to go to 3.55 i had been worried about breaking my psn games (since i can't go on their stupid service) but looks like that's not factor anymore...lol the things ya do to keep getting your everyday shooter fix every now and then...

12:09 PM

09-28-2011
12:31 PM
That's it.
09-28-2011
12:40 PM
Goddamn, this just might be a dealbreaker for ,leaving my trustworthy 3.41 and jump on the 3.55 multiman train.
And by the way Dean (off-topic) the SNES9000.pkg v.1.0 from the multiman thread won't install on 3-41. Just wanted to see if you could have a look or tell Squarepusher...
Thanks for ALL your superp work!
09-28-2011
12:42 PM
Dean do you have ps1 backups from HDD in your plans?I mean diskless
09-28-2011
12:46 PM
Most of games run already on 3.41, so if I update to 3.55 would they still run?
I also use a dongle (BlackcatUSB).
Would I have to update the firmware to make it work with Kmeaw?
Great work as well ^^v
Thanks for everything.

Can't you mount a PS1 folder on your PS3 to dev_BDVD and then launch it using PS1EMU?
09-28-2011
12:58 PM
Demonhades writes that using ps1 backups on cd can harm your bdrom on ps3.
ps1emu self is using direct acess to bdrom without changing parametrs of it. It can harm laser and mechanism. I just read it on demonhates portal with google translate. But i understand what they write about.
I`d like to wait wile someone will do mount ps1 folder or iso to bdemu.

12:58 PM
Hi.
I test many games and I see a thing.
09-28-2011
01:04 PM
Somebody should post in the front page, that this method does NOT work on official firmware 3.41 with Dongle.
Or more people willing to test on such firmware please do so, and confirm if it works.
09-28-2011
01:20 PM
I don't blame him on commenting multiMAN's features all day, since he is probably ready with JFW and wondering what else to do.
multiMAN passes all parameters needed by the emulator and the emulator doesn't access the disc directly - it uses system functions - the same functions the WHOLE PS3 uses when it accesses an optical disc. I hope he'll educate himself a bit before posting stuff which embarrasses him.
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
1) Make sure you use the ORIGINAL EBOOT.BIN files for all games (if you changed any)
2) Run "fix permissions" package once (if needed). More info in 1st page of multiMAN's thread.

Deank please add my thanks to the many from the ps3 scene for all your work and effort not only keeping the scene alive but granting everyone here the opportunity to enjoy all of this.
all the best

People, please don't annoy deank.
It is confirmed as a LIE, a marketing trick for Demonhades and a personal hit against deank.
Next time please use the search form and read the previous posts.
Here's a noob friendly explanation why it's a PURE LIE:

(feel free to read the whole topic)
I think seriously it should get headlined that this thing is indeed a lie and spread the message to everybody.

Weren't you the same guy in the other forum who couldn't get off of dh's nuts?

Ignore all trolls in this thread. Everything that needs to be confirmed has ALREADY BEEN CONFIRMED. Speculation is futile.

Now who's gonna be a dear and send my clarification why he said was a lie to him and his ''people''?
I can also provide a clarification why this thing that he said that ''he can brick remotelly our consoles...'' is also a lie.
I really want to know what excuse will he use...

Anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

I can confirm that disk swapping to disk 2 works without any tricks on Abe's Exoddus (no saving required).
Currently this is the only multi disk game I can test since it's the only one with a stage select that allows me to skip straight to the second disk, but I don't see why other games wouldn't work the same way.
Can anyone test some of the other games that don't let you save at disk swap?

sorry about this post... btw, can u pls make a pkg of tekken3 from ps1 gamebackup?
09-28-2011
11:49 PM
Conversely I can load a save game from disk 1 on disk 2 and get past the "switch to disk 1" screen.
It would seem the PS3 does not check the disk authenticity before loading it.

by the way anyone else encountering the loud noises coming from the bdrom, make sure your disc doesn't have alot of scratches or fingerprints on it, and make sure you are using good media.

May i know what is the correct folder structure when we back-up ps1 games in hdd?
09-29-2011
12:38 AM
Unsure. The current PS1/PSX Games I own Multiman will not back them up properly. From what I understand though it will either save them as an .iso file or a folder containing all the Games files in the same structure as they are on the disk.

Does everybody realize what a huge kick in Sony"s face this is?
Since they killed of BC , Sony states that the PS3 can't play PS1 games anymore.
They now have been proven otherwise.
And what about Sony's story that they can't even develop an emulator that runs PS1/2 games on a slim.
09-29-2011

PS1 games work in each PS3 version. The PS2 games require BC PS3.

Rax I actually mean you don't have to do any of that. Play the game on your backup of disk 1 then when it says put in disk 2 put in your backup of disk 2.
There seems to be nothing more to it. But i've only tested Parasite Eve and Abe's Exoddus.

I have an issue in ps1 backups: if I put games (even originals) in my reader, disc is not detected. In the official ps3 dashboard yes...
What can I do if I want multiman reads my ps1 discs in xmmb?
I can't understand the reason of this issue...
I'm on 3.55 CFW Kmeaw with multiman 2.08.00 FULL
EDIT: Changing skin i see that the disk is recognized as data disk, but xmb reads it well...

Can't happen since the emulator and the game cannot recognise and trigger such function.
You have to do it manually IF the game has an audio options menu and mute the music.
It worked on Tekken/Crash series.

I still can't get PS1 saves to work.
It seems the default name must be used when creating a new save file.

if you change your bios, lanch the emulator and remove the disc when it says "sony computer entertainment". This will leave you in the main menu of the ps1,
the memorycard manager and audio player work fine.
I wonder why it still freezes when you start the emu without a disc in the drive?
