• PS3 Hacks, PSN , 21.09.2011

Well im sure some of you have been trying to access the PlayStation network, but with difficulty, that will because the network is down, with Sony having “no idea” of when it will be back up, this throws back to memories of the whole PSN hacking fiasco, now nothing is confirmed and no reasons are given, but here are a few tweets, from the official twitter accounts of @Playstation and @PlaystationEU.

Im personally hoping that it isn’t hacked, really want to grab my Free Resident Evil games, but if it is hacked, it is understandable, considering the nasty new TOS they rolled out and how long will it take them to tell us it is hacked.

If it isn’t hacked, then what is the reason, comments welcome below.

Wow if it got hacked again I see a boost in sales for 360. I just got a 3.42 ps3 and havent updated it yet. I was going to update it for PSN but I am now glad I didnt update I hope this is just temporary and nothing major is going on, but if for the chance it were hacked again then all of our theories about Sony not fixing anything are true.

I'd be more than happy actually if it got hacked again, I can't lie.
Sony's dynasty regarding it's costumer trust is innevitably at it's dawn.
Doing their best to speed up this proccess with those TOS'es etc it's gonna hurt them alot, maybe with no turning back.
Now if this is going to make them change their strategies, well, I doubt it.

WOOT!!!! I LOVE this, I hope that they've been hacked again, but alot worse this time, and the best part aboutit is that there was no video threats or anything. So If it was a "Unerground hacker" with no one for sony to look for
or "sue" , holly crap, can't wait to see the outcome of this, but 9/10 it's nothing but, ther is still a chance, anyways sweet, take em down whoever you are, take no prisoners!!! La-Resistance lives on

      So in other words:

      • You hope millions of PS3 owners running OFW lose the ability to play their legaly bought games online.
      • You hope that Netflix and Hulu subscribers lose the ability to stream from their PS3's.
      • You hope we all miss out on the Battlefield 3 public beta starting September 29th.
      • You hope PS3 users who have purchased PSN content that includes online-DRM can't play their games anymore.
      • You hope PS3 users subscribed to Qriocity lose the ability to stream their favorite music.
      • You hope online friends relying on PSN to socialize lose contact with one-another.

But who cares right? Because you're offline and YOU don't use PSN anyways. It's not like anyone else does.

Honestly I do not give a damn about the new TOS. It's not like I was going to sue Sony anyway. Did you actually plan on filing a class-action lawsuit against Sony? And if so why haven't you done it already?

I'm not defending Sony and I'm all for the progression of the scene, but to hope PSN is hacked a second time is selfish. It's ugly and selfish. Why should OFW users be affected by something they don't give a damn about? They don't deserve to be punished like this. They did nothing wrong.

It was there choice to accept Sony's new ToS and they accepted it. What's the problem? They (including me) obviously don't give a fuck about the ToS.

I don't think it's hacked, but I also think it's down because they have the weakest tech's maintaining the server $ could buy, which is sad, as Sony has a lot of $. Either or no loss to me as I been gaming on my PC lately.

I do care, and I did used to use PSN, what about those of us who are being balckmailed by $ony now, sign away your rights and property if you want to play on PSN?!!
Also you dont give a **** about the new TOS, fine that's your right, or perhaps not you signed $ony's TOS :P
Yet you seem to give a **** about those who do with a really big **** against $ony's TOS and they understand the implications these new TOS bring with them and refuse to bent over and take it just to play online.

Most likely not hacked, more likely some bugs with the new firmware which needed patching; shame.

I see where you're coming from but I must ask a question out of curiosity:

Did you actually plan on filing a class-action lawsuit against Sony?

I just want to know because you seem "angered" by what they've done. Personally, I accepted their new ToS without question. I never planned on suing them in the first place and as long as I can play my PSN games I'm happy.

The suing thing isnt for the past, it is for the future, you cannot predict the future, so you cannot tell wheter you may need to sue Sony.

I have to agree with you, the only thing I didn't agree with Sony in terms of the TOS is the suing Part, but hey, sometimes that doesn't hold up in court. As for the "license" part, yes it's an ugly word, but ehhh, videogame companies and developers have been using that term FOREVER. I remember one night looking at an old psx game manual and it saying something along the lines of "purchase of this title grants you license to use this title etcetera etcetera" so really what's the big idea, right? Obviously the TOS is PSN related, so if you have a second Ps3 that DOESN'T go online then you DON'T AGREE to the TOS on THAT machine and are thereby unbound. Remember, every TOS and every contract has a loophole

Does it matter whether I do today or not, I'm not gonna sign away the right and then have to write in every time they release a new update!

Technically yes I would, and technically they should lose. Removal of otheros, for any reason, was illegal! The new TOS can be considered as blackmail. In a logical and fair court $ony would be found guilty.
But guess what, money speaks louder than the law, loopholes are left open to allow the rich and corporations a way out. Nothing is about the people and justice, it's about profits. It;s not just $ony, it;s just $ony are the current target.

You have said dont give a **** so why are you on here complaining about us giving a ****? What's it to you that we find this TOS completely unreasonable and illegal! If you dont like it I suggest you leave.

Normally I would say it;s your right to disagree, you know free speech and all, but as you are more than happy to sign away your rights for a little entertainment then all I can say is STFO

Also note that it;s not just about not being able to sue, check the changes and see exactly how much it has been changed to include the word "LICENSE" almost everywhere! So by agreeing you no longer own anything, you lease it!

The US Air Force was already suing Sony for OtherOS removal. They depended on that, so trust me, a branch of the govt/ military themselves will side against Sony so we know that Sony can't win in court for certain scenarios

With that said, the TOS to me is just empty threats. That's why I accepted them, they dont scare me.

I never brought the TOS up. My original post revolved around people hoping PSN was hacked for a second time. YOU brought the TOS into this.

i have never agreed with people targetting end users to get back at the company.
all that happens is it fuels the fire against our causes.

i have had 3 hacked ps3's and i have 1 ofw ps3 and i can tell you all that if legit consumers suffer by our hand then we are no better than sony. they have done nothing wrong so why should they lose out?

i seriously doubt its the start of another "anonymous" situation anyway but getting back at sony via the PSN is no good for anything except giving sony more power in the courtroom. smear campaigns do more damage and are quite legal as long as facts are stuck to.

I think Sony knew they were gonna get hacked again and so they rolled out this new TOS on this new firmware before the set date the hack was gonna happen just so they can cover their asses and so they wouldnt have to give out free games or a month of playstation plus to ps3 customers like last time. i think the hackers sent sony an email telling them when they were gonna get hacked and to be ready, so what does sony do? foll out a new firmware, not with NEW SECURITY, but with new TOS to protect themselves, and IT WORKED. ****en sony. go to hell hey, it could happen right?

ive heard in the past few weeks of a few people going to target them, but at the end of the day sony deserves everything they get, to bad for the consumers cause they end up paying, but then again there are other gaming consoles out there and in the future you need to look at who has the most reliable service if you are one of the people into online gaming.

I accepted the ToS, but that's only after I verified my country would throw it out in court should I require to sue. Not every country may not have the same regulations in place, but it's worth a look to see whether or not Sony can force mandatory arbitration for your country. I would assume most would say no. In US that could be done differently pending on state. It's not a big deal either way and has no bearing as to PSN being down. Tho I just signed in, so its back up, at least temporarily.

but if you go to gamestop and buy a used game, do you want to pay an extra fee to be able to use all the features that you are suppose to have if you bought it new, sony and the gaming industry doesnt want you to buy used and only new, are publishing companys going to go after librarys next?

Yes but, if all people say that, then Sony learns that, because they have power, they can screw anybody circumventing him all of his rights.
Also the attacks didn't happen because people wanted to be mean and they had to put out their negativity to a poor victim organization/company; it was because Sony attended to do some seriously nasty moves against consumers rights, on a so high level that never happened again.
In the end of the day you can't screw with your costumers and think this wont ever have a bad result, it doesnt make you mean to protect your beliefs and your rights.
Nobody gave the right to Sony to make it's costumers to decide between their rights and their joy, THIS IS NUTS!(and illegal by the way)

In a context, nobody is a bad person for being happy when an attack happens on PSN/Sony. It's not mean and ugly at all. It's human.
Sony gave him enough reasons to feel that emotion against them.

on the subject of TOS's , I have not read it myself, and to be clear I'm not sure I would understand all that it implies if I did.

But lets say you have more than one console and you accept the TOS on one and not the other does it apply to all or just that one console?

It's applied per PSN account not per console. So if you use the same account on multiple PS3s, it applies to all. If you use different accounts, it applies to the accounts you chose to accept.

I find all this rather funny.
When the people with the OS feature got screwed over by Sony, The people on OFW took the piss out of us all, Now the tables have turned and the people on OFW are the ones getting screwed! LMAO

If people stood up for their rights and didnt let Sony walk all over them, Then things wouldnt have got like this, People need to stop sticking up for Sony when Sony is clearly lying to people, And clearly abusing our consumer and human rights.
Its like bullying, The more you take it the longer it will continue.

I will never buy any Sony products ever again, I will never support any company that abuses its customers consumer/human rights.

I'm no longer using PSN, hate their new TOS (however ain't planning to sue them either, but still think it's lame) and have a good laugh at their miseries :-)

    Playstation NotWork.. good one!

That's what I would think also , being a rational person and all, but the problem is that $ony is irrational so anything is possible even the contrary to what would seem right.

Wow, this thread should be archived for posterity, because when the ps3 scene does inevitably collapse and die you will be able to refer back and see exactly the reasons why.

I cannot actually believe the immaturity here. I'm no innocent i've pirated stuff since the days of the amstrad cpc, and i don't believe piracy kills consoles or anything else. However to read an abundance of comments about hating sony and hoping they are hacked again is only going to end in tears.

In my eyes the "scene" needs to sort itself out, hacking psn or Sony or anybody else will help nothing, infact it will exacerbate the situation, repeated attacks will lead to tighter TOS not looser ones, Sony have every right to try to protect their investment.

You cannot use restrictive TOS as an excuse, firstly if you have CFW it doesn't apply to you as your warranty is already void and you will get no official support, no different to if i was to put high powered coolant in my refrigerator.

We are screwed by much bigger forces than Sony on a daily basis, everyday the cost of runnig my car gets higher, insurance has almost doubled in the last 2 years and that's with a no claims bonus! Petrol prices are at an all time high as is fuel duty, yet oil prices are now sliding. The cost of gas and elecricity recently rose by around 20% even though wholesale gas is cheaper than last year. VAT is at 20% and food and grocery prices are still rising as well. If i get cancer the quality of my treatment depends on my postcode. University fees will be ridiculous from next year, etc. etc. It's so depressing i need to get drunk, but i cant afford it because tax on alcohol is so high :D

Hackers need to come into the real world and stop worry about a few words from an elecrical manufacturer. If they were really 133t they would drop the chasing of soft targets like sony and chase the big industries and expose the fraud and price fixing and government collusion that most likely goes on. And therein lies the immaturity of some people, clearly to them a console is more important than real life issues.

And before anyone starts *****ing and moaning, this post is not aimed at the devs who are developing homebrew, CFW other other stuff to enhance the PS3 experience it is solely aim at the "hackers" and those who hold them in such high esteem.

Idk, the user acct that released that video doesn't match the anon one, not only that, according to the video, they said that they were "ddos" the servers because of the pay to play crap Sony was starting to do for used games, but you'd think anonymous would be smart enough to know that companies like THQ, EA, and Warner bros have already been doing so. Anon is a lot smarter than that, this video seems flawed to me.

You may mock the guy but in some ways he is right, as things currently are there are no other real competitors for Microsoft, Nintendo's target market has always been the casual gamer and the family market, this will never change. For the more mature gamer a Microsoft stranglehold on the console market just like the PC market would not necessarily be a good thing. The situation with the PC OS market nowadays means that it is not financially viable to even try to compete, yes there is linux and Mac and a few other various OS's around but none can compete when it comes to the quality and depth of the commercial software available.

With no mass market competition to Microsoft where would we be? Open source consoles have tried and failed to make a dent in the market and the current financial situation in the world means many big multi national companies would think twice about investing in a business where there is an underground element seeking to sabotage its profit making.

Like it or not gaming losing Sony would not be in the best interest of the consumer.

I see all these comments in this thread about why we "SHOULDN'T" hate Sony, but in reality those who hate sony are probably right. The haters hate sony NOT because they want to bring sony down, no , they hate sony because sony is pissin' them off. What the haters want is to have hombrew and also use the online features, but sony won't allow that, and so the soar will continue to fester. The non-haters are the ones who really don't care about homebrew, the non-haters are ready to tolerate whatever comes at them from sony. I don't think haters are what some are trying to portrait them as, they are merely people who want more for the longevity of the PS3 , and this is not to be mistaken with the longevity of sony itself.

"no other real competitors for Microsoft"

It is not true to say so. I can not see any evidence to this comment?

ps3, and Nintendo is a real one. They have their own game for their console. Can not said which games is better, and it is also depend on what is your style for games. RPG, Shooting.

    No hate in this forum

For me I hate Microsoft, because they ban my console. I hate them because they do not let online is free. (just kidding).

Some people hate even they do know it is not a right reason.

compare to Microsoft. Sony did not ban much console.
