$88 seems a little high on the price considering it appears its only used for the PS3. Still nicely done.

no its for systems that supports nor and nands.

it was rumored to be even more expensive, like 100 to 120$ so you are indeed lucky 88 dollars is nice

Been looking at some of the comments tut tut wheres the common sense.
Lets clear some things up.
Does this connect to the mother board?
yes of course it does. Its an extra nand and thus dual boot, one nand per firmware.
Is it solderless?
Romoured to be solderless for the slim but soldered on the phat. guessing about 8 solder points.
if i updated the two nands?
This can downgrade one of the updated nands but there could be a write protect switch.
Can i play online?
yes if you update to the latest firmware and have no homebrew, only original games work. There is still no homebrew on the latest firmwares.
i have a phat/slim that was bricked by bad firmware will this fix it
yes it can write to nand, flash it with the same firmware that it was on.
Why two hard drives?
The fimware is stored on the hard drive but not the kernel. The hard drive contains games and dash and is swapped for what kernel is loaded through the e3diy.
If i left the hard disk in with CFW 3.55 and kernel 3.70 it would show the home brew icons but these will not boot you would have to swap the nand for 3.55 for the homebrew to work.
why are disks external?
the e3diy has are sata attachment to connect to disk external this must connect to the ps3 sata to relay the connection and use the bay as housing. It still connects to the ps3 mother board nand. this could enable the use of 3.5 "hdd with external power supply.
hope this clears some things up

Looks like this does use the HDD bay, think i'm get myself one of these beauties, how much would this be in £?
09-07-2011
02:16 PM
Damn this thing is pricey. I'm waiting for the solderless and not buying until they say this can be used with future updates on the OFW side of the dual boot feature.

Err... £55 (we don't use euros in the UK) :D

Let me see here...
-E3 Flasher
-2 HDDs
-External Sata connector (considering this flasher goes into the HDD bay)
$150 in total for the newb?

on the ps3hax front page it said that the E3 flasher was for alot of systems, ps3,xbox and wii. to quote: Compatiable all device like PS3/WII/XBOX360/MP3/DVD/BD/MP4/Table PC which has NAND or NOR flash memory" SEE?

anywho, im really excited, but the only question i have is, how much longer do i have to wait for the "regualr" version of the flasher, cuz the ones theyre showoing in the vid looks really complicated, as opposed to the one shwoing in the pic on the front page, it looks simple, is it better to get the ones that looks confusing , the one in the vid?
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
yea, it will work on phat, but you have to solder some wires, i dont know exatly how many, but you do have to. for slim you dont, its like a clip on tie. just clip on!!!

03:18 PM
monitor to handle two HDMI/DVI inputs then another expense, or a video source switching box, or again the plug/unplug cables pain.
The E3 Flasher may be the way to go in the end.

I'd be all over this had I been able to use 3.55cfw to get trophies and then 3.70ofw to update them on PSN!
That'd rule, until they can do that I'll stick with two PS3's.

Seriously gonna get one of these when they come out!! It looks awesome!!
However, dont get what this means.....

E3 Flasher $88 + Install (+/-$30) if you don't solder.
A new hard drive (1TB) $50+
= $130+
vs
PS3 from Craigslist on average in the Chicago market = $150~$200
09-07-2011
05:23 PM
Just to confirm here, the flasher needs to stay connected to any unit that wishes to dual boot, but does not need to stay connected if you just want to use it to downgrade consoles?

I think JFW-CFW will be better than this...
look what they unveilled now:
New PS3 CFW JFW-DH (preview) No backup manager required for games - YouTube
they even admitted theyre trying to bring dual boot without the need of hardware... ill wait till they release it!
PS: i dont need this cause i own 2 ps3´s ;-)

I thought this is solderless...why is it that there is no clip and it seems you need to solder the flex cable to test points?

02:06 AM
Once word gets out about this, expect Sony to intercept at customs. I mean it's plastered in E3 Flasher markings on packaging and PCB board.
Would have been better with no markings on it, then it might have passed as a dev board.
Think this will be risky to import.

02:58 AM
I agree with teh peeps that are suggesting that buying this alonside the required extras is not really worth it, with the price of ps3 coming down and online buying a second PS3 would be a lot less hastle.
the way i see it if this setup is even over half the price of a second PS3 then a second PS3 is the way to go.
09-08-2011
04:13 AM
Will this work on PS3's that came with a stock FW of 3.56+ ?
The code on the back of my console is 1A ( so it was build in 2011 1st quarter ).

I personally don't like this, im with progskeet. It's an important progress maybe more comfy for some people, but it has a nice layout and nice functions. (judging for the videos/pics/info).
I thought in first place that with some much speculation going around the E3 flasher was some kinda of dongle, but i was wrong.
Some user in twitter (i don't remember the username) posted a few weeks ago that *we will be not suprised about the release of E3 flasher*. A plain statement of not seeing nothing new or the same thing but with differents components and features.
So much high expectations about this...
Make no mistake im not bashing the product but since progskeet came out. I (personally) prefer to stick with progskeet rather than pay 88 dollars plus taxes for this until some solid probe and some kinda of review is posted of how it REALLY works, how about the support among other things.
It's my personal view about this maybe im wrong, maybe im right. who knows?.
P.s: the extras are cool but adding them to the retail price, it's expensive. If you want to get a unique piece it's a must buy

I think it will be useful if they find a way to run backups of newer games like portal 2 and those about to come like MW3 and BF3 otherwise useless.
09-08-2011
04:33 AM
It's common sense..
I rather buy this products (if i got the money) than expecting some magical post about the keys/patch or some way to run the backups.
Besides E3 flasher and Progkseet are good options and in legal terms you are not breaking any law/laws.
Yeah you probably gonna say *but both products don't give a us result of playing portal 2 or any type of guarantee that we can play incoming titles* and you are right you got your point there, but rotulate a product as useless and you don't even tried it.....it's not logical.

In Australia this is very affordable by comparison to a second PS3!
Here we still have to pay about $450 for a new console! And our dollar is stronger than the US.

Another, i already have a 120G internal hdd (which bought with the PS3), do i need to buy two other hdds or only one is enought, thanks in advance.

and you no the best part about it i bought 5 of them
that where on 3.50 firmware if you hunt around there are still more out there that are on 3.50 firmware

1) Can this be used to downgrade any PS3 SLIM to 3.55?
2) Can this be used to downgrade my and my 5 friends PS3?
I understand dual boot only possible on the PS3 with the hardware, but what about the downgrade.
EDIT: to those smarty pants saying it's better to buy another PS3 than this... You all asume everyone is on 3.55? Last I checked you can't buy a retail 3.55 anymore.

You must get :
e-flasher - 88 $
hdd sata doc-80 $
another hdd - 50 $ at least
Better put nother 50 $ extra and get a second ps3 for ofw 370 + .
Don't you think it's better this way ?

Not for me though. I'd rather try my luck with the progskeet.
09-09-2011
05:52 AM
you have to open your ps3, place the clip on NOR, connect the clip to the board, then connect the board to front panel, then you have to connect hdd docking to it.
and if you want to switch between cfw 3.55 and 3.70, you have to buy another hdd. one for 3.55 and one for 3.70

E preciso soldar alguma coisa na SLIM ?
09-09-2011
06:04 AM
*No necesita soldar en la consola solo abrirla*
You don't need to do anything just open up the PS3 and intall E3 flasher.
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
2) I think so but you have to remove it from your PS3 and put it on each console that need the downgrade then remove it again and put it on your console if you need it. Maybe you can just order 5 more.. Just sayin'
You can do both things, dual boot and downgrade. The *hardware* is E3 flasher to make the downgrade possible and the dual boot.
Some users are saying that in Australia you can get at a low price some 3.55 consoles or the new ones..I don't know if it's true. But two times in the same thread posted the same info. (Overall the price of PS3 dropped)
You can buy a retail 3.55 = used. Even with lower firms but im not a fan of purchasing used things.

It's all explained to SLIM, but nobody explained anything to the folks at FAT PS3.
Can anyone explain if this works the same way in FAT?

Can I downgrade a ps3 that has a firmware higher than 3.55 out of the box?
I bought a 160gb slim with firmware 3.65, will it brick if i download?
09-17-2011
10:16 AM
See here. They are claiming to offer a solution via a softmod for those on 3.56. So you could follow them if you're patient and don't update your firmware from 3.56
Your other options are hardware flashers. Progskeet, Teensy 2.0, and, ON-TOPIC this E3Flasher.

I would like to knw...how long will this solution is going to work...is it permanent or any software will come which would allow to downgrade without e3 flasher...
As what I have understood from previous posts, there cant be a downgrade solution with software.

Downgrade, etc still via hardware nothing on soft (yet)
09-23-2011
02:16 AM
Thanks for your reply..but my question was different it was not about sony blocking this e3 flasher...
I just want to know whether a software downgrade will ever come for 3.71 ...
just like the 3.55 Kmeaw firmware replaced the jailbreak dongles....
09-23-2011
02:22 AM
The only way like i said is = Downgrade and install CFW 3.55, No jailbreak nothing for 3.71.
Sorry for be redundant on my response but it's not an easy way out of this, no soft solution NO CFW for 3.71.
09-23-2011
01:55 PM
They can use epoxy to cover the connections , a clip will be useless then.
But a real hardware security change , no i don't think so.
09-23-2011
08:27 PM
From what I understand, after that run, they'll make a new one, with an integrated NOR clip. I just hope the clip included in this current run isn't half-assed.
