• PS3 Hacks , 21.10.2011

The good folks over at Gitbrew have just announced that they have a brick fix for ps3′s on 3.55 and lower. Here is to quote gitbrew.

    Beta brick fixing

This is a beta tool. It has only be tested on otheros++ nand bricks and some pup updater file errors.

This hasn’t been 100% tested, though we’re looking for people to try it to see what bricks it will actually fix.

    Tutorial

    1. Put both files into the root directory of a flash drive.

    2. Put the dongle into the ps3 while it is off and start it.

    3. If the flash drive is activated it can be fixed using this.

    4. If it however does not, the only fix for it until a software side is found is a hardware flasher.

    lv2diag.self

    PS3UPDAT.PUP

Please note this will ONLY work on 3.55 and lower, and in only a small amount of cases.

Too bad it's 3.55 and below. I have a 3.73 with red screen of death, most likely a bad nand brick. Maybe in the future it's possible to revive this machine.

It's experimental, and we don't have a waninikoko brick to try and flash, thus we can't really add support for it =\

It's a no go on the Waninkoko brick. I picked one up on ebay a while back not knowing. I tried this on it with no luck.

If u r a coder, could u make a waninkoko brick by yourself with wanky cfw Ver1, and then take a experiment

We don't have a ps3 capable of bricking via wanikoko, so we can't actually test much without it.

Tried and unfortunately failed on a 2.10 OFW update brick CECHG. It failed an update and the HDD was formatted, seems like it won't go into Service Mode anyway.

      Thanks anyway guys!

You guys really need to read the article over better... It specifically says it's a fix for PS3's which have Nand and were bricked with OtherOS++. My PS3 would be a prime example of this, as that is exactly what happened to me when I accidentally skipped a step. Except with me it might not even work, due not having any power to the USB slots, the only hope may be if it works with the memory card reader slots.

This is not a "fix-all solution", only pertains to PS3's with the above conditions.

We're still looking for other brick fixings, software / dongle based. We don't have any hardware that has any of these problems though, so we can't really help with it any further then that .

what would help immensely is people that have damaged machines would send them to gitbrew, to allow better research and development.
