ScummVM has been massivley updated in celebrations of their 10 year anniversary.

    To quote:

It has been over 10 years. We are here thanks to the work of 131 developers. 49,124 commits were made just to the ScummVM tree and those turned into a massive 1,085,714 lines of code (excluding comments) and of course over 7.6 million downloads from the main site alone. I would say those were a great ten years.

The outcome is ScummVM 1.4.0 which we are releasing today, 11/11/11 11:11:11.11.

More games are supported: Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos (based on the same engine as Kyrandia), the kids’ game Blue’s Birthday Adventure, and the science fiction game Ringworld: Revenge of the Patriarch. On top of that, practically all supported Sierra SCI games now have their Amiga versions working. Our musically inclined users will notice PC speaker support in Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, CMS support in LoomThe Secret of Monkey Island and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, fixed MIDI in the DOS versions of the Elvira series, and even sound in Winnie the Pooh in the Hundred Acre Wood!

The PS3 was released on the 11th of November 2006 in Japan, in that time we have had many exciting games, Fake Backup loaders, Real Backup loaders, Homebrew, lawsuits, PSN hacks and so much more, so to celebrate the PS3′s 5th birthday, i would like to hold this competition.

    To Qualify you need to:
Be a member of this forum
    Own a PS3
Staff are also entitled to participate, i use a random number generator and record the process.

    How it works:
All you have to do, is create a post, stating what you enjoy about your PS3, that’s it :)
The competition will continue until the last day of the month, the winner will be selected by their forum post number.

For a little history on the PS3, visit this thread:
    PS3 A Complete History

    UPDATE – 26th November 2011 – Four days left.
Many people have said to me that with them being on CFW, that it is pointless entering the competition as they will have no way of redeeming the PSN code, so if you are on CFW and win, you will receive $50 credit via PayPal

PS3HaX Developer CrashSerious has updated his “One” application and has fixed many of the problems you guys have had, here is a quote from the update:

Tonight, to celebrate the last binary date of the century. We bring you a update to one.

Simply, it updates memory card support and works on the following systems:

    3.55 MFW Retail/CEX
    3.41 MFW Retail/CEX
    3.15 MFW Retail/CEX

    3.55 MFW Debug/DEX
    3.41 MFW Debug/DEX
    3.15 MFW Debug/DEX

(Note: one uses “state of the art” firmware detection to apply patches needed, spoofing simply can not fool it.)

Now not only do memory cards work… but those of you who are on MFW 3.15 can use it too. We told you we didn’t believe people should go without features!

Well that was quick, True Blue, aka JB2 has been reversed engineered and the payload has been released! As we suspected previously the dongle IS using debug eboots to get game working on CFW 3.55, so no this was NOT a break through – it was just a clever trick to get debug eboots working on lower CFW and this can be prevented by companies very easily. (No this will not give you CFW or let you play MW3!)

    To quote a small snippet:

Dongle is DRM to make sure you have the dongle, the firmware ‘special’ functionality will not work without it. Contentdisc’s contain fself’ed eboot.bin’s

CEO Of Sony, Sir Howard Stringer has recently been interviewed by The Street, in it he speaks of the PSN attacks and states that he believes that they were the victim of a sophisticated vendetta orchestrated by elements within the hacking community, stating it was a revenge attack, due to them going after a hacker who hacked the PS3, here is a quote from the interview:

NEW YORK (TheStreet) — Sony(SNE_) has bounced back from a wave of hacking attacks on its PlayStation business earlier this year, according to CEO Sir Howard Stringer, who says that digital assaults are an occupational hazard for major firms.

“The press was on us for four days until somebody else got hacked and everyone realized that hacking is a fact of life,” he said, during a briefing event organized by The Wall Street Journal. “We took it on the chin over and over again — the problem that we have is that we were alone out there, so nobody had anything else to write about that month.”

Sony’s security travails certainly grabbed plenty of headlines. In May, the company confirmed that it was the victim of a massive denial-of-service attack, likely timed to coincide with the hacking of its PlayStation Network. Sony subsequently warned its 77 million users that their private account details, such as passwords, addresses and credit cards, may have been compromised after the network was infiltrated by the unknown hacker.

The Japanese tech giant was even forced to pull the PlayStation Network down while it dealt with the hacking attack, although the service was fully restored in early June.

Not that customers have taken their frustration out on Sony, according to Stringer. “They came back — they were not angry with us,” said Stringer. “They were upset that they had lost their ability to connect to their favorite service.”

The PlayStation network, he added, now has approximately 90 million users.

Stringer also reiterated the company’s belief that Sony was the victim of a sophisticated vendetta orchestrated by elements within the hacking community.

“The target opportunity was a revenge attack, initially — it was because we went after a hacker who hacked PlayStation,” he said. “PlayStation is vital to us, and so we were afraid that it would essentially destroy a PlayStation.”

The CEO explained that Sony has significantly bolstered its security defenses in the aftermath of the hacking attacks. “We have done a lot to stop that,” he said. “We have brought in a lot of forensic studies — we have brought in executives, that you have read about in the papers, that are dealing with this constantly.”

We have some developers on this forum and im sure we have some aspiring developers and if C# is your language, then perhaps the closed Beta Developer Program for PlayStation Suite is for you, PS Suite will work on various devices, such as PS Vita, PS Certified devices, Sony Tablet and other Android tablets, here is a quote from the source:

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) will offer software development kits (SDK) for PlayStation®Suite (PS Suite), called “PlayStation®Suite SDK”, for content developers. PS Suite is an initiative designed to deliver the world of PlayStation® to open operating system based portable devices. Prior to its release, we plan to offer a developer program (closed beta test) for the PlayStation®Suite SDK for limited participants.
Through PS Suite SDK, content developers can create content for PlayStation™Certified (PS Certified) devices, which is hardware certified through the PS Suite license program, as well as for PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita).

Using C# as the programming language, PS Suite SDK will run programs developed in C# on virtual machine equipped in both PS Certified devices and PS Vita.

By supporting development for multiple devices and by adopting libraries designed to create a variety of gaming and non-gaming content , PS Suite SDK will not only help developers reduce costs for creating new content, but also allow them to efficiently create their content on one SDK and use it for multiple devices.

    Purpose
Prior to the official release of PlayStation®Suite SDK, we will provide the developer program (closed beta test) with PlayStation®Suite SDK to limited participants. The intention of the closed beta test is to improve the SDK quality with feedbacks from those participants.

    Application Guideline
We are now accepting applications for participants in this program (closed beta test). Both corporation and individual applicants are welcome to participate, but the numbers of the participants are limited and we need your understanding that not all applicants are guaranteed to join this program. The program will be available in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan in English, and it will support “Windows XP (32bit)” and “Windows 7 (32/64bit)”. Since the SDK comes with a PC simulator, purchase of PS Certified devices or PS Vita is not required.

The participants of this program will be selected equally based on the information provided in the “Application Form” link below and will allow for a variety of types of developers to join. Those selected will receive an e-mail to the address specified in the “Application Form”.

Personal information provided in the “Application Form”, etc. will be used to select the participants of this program, to communicate with those regarding the application development and to create statistical data by Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc., Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC, and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited.

How to apply to this program and license terms
Please read the application guideline carefully, and if you agree to the guideline and agree to participate, click “Agree to the application guideline and go to the application form” button to proceed to the “Application Form” screen. By submitting the application form, you are considered to have agreed to the application guideline. Please note that your use of the PlayStation®Suite SDK and participation in this program (closed beta test) is conditioned upon your agreeing to be bound by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.’s license terms for the PlayStation®Suite SDK.

    Contact
Please email to info_pssclosedbeta@hq.scei.sony.co.jp for inquiries regarding this developer program (closed beta test). We will not be able to answer all inquiries. Please refer to the FAQ. We cannot provide the result of your application.

It seems that more and more often stuff gets leaked by anonymous persons. It’s still unconfirmed but it looks like that a anonymous person leaked a Metldr exploit to the web.

    To quote:

We here at our PS3 Crunching news desk, have been going thru all our emails as we do each morning over our daily large dose of coffee, and suddenly had to take a ‘step-back’ and get our heads in order, as we received an ‘an0nymous email’ from some random one-time dropbox, containing a weird little attachment, with a simple note:

    Program: metldr838exploit
    Author: Unknown
    Usage: Unknown
    Reason: Unknown

Before posting we had one our PS3 Crunching Developers look it over, and it seems to be a set of ‘C’ code and headers and an compiled ELF and SELF that exploits the ‘chain of trust’ to dump an ‘unecrypted’ version of your PS3 ‘metldr’.

It’s still unconfirmed if this is a real working Metldr exploit and for now this isn’t very useful for the end user, but might bring us closer to a more open Playstation 3! We will keep you up-to-date as soon some developers have some time to play with it and confirm if it’s usable. But for now exciting new developments!

Thanx to PS3Hax member himshie for the submit!

PS3 Developer CrashSerious has released an application which enables you to boot PS1 games(backups), here is a quote from the read me:

We present to you an app that is as simple and to the point as
    its name:

    one

one boots PSX game disks, *ANY* psx game disk, even a game
    reported to not work previously:
    SLUS-01104 NFS: Porsche Unleashed

Requirements to use one are pretty simple, MFW 3.41/3.55
    (all variants).

Simply install one, and run it with your PSX cd in the drive
the game will start after a few seconds. If you do not have a cd
in the drive when you start one, it will exit to XMB.

    What doesn’t work:
    Selecting or loading PS1 VMC’s
Loading from HDD, sorry… you gotta have the disk people.

Q/A, FAQ, aka Before you ask, look —/

Q: Multiman does this, why do it separately?
A: First, just because we wanted to. Secondly, because not
everyone runs Multiman, or (crazy as it sounds) even has a
backup manager installed. Third, we don’t like people having to
choose whether or not to lose functionality.

Q: How do I use this?
A: Install the pkg, insert your PSX cd, run one.

    Q: How do I install a pkg?
    A: LMGTFY

    Download Mediafire
    Download multiupload

Here’s another update to the PS3 Media Server, the easiest and simplest to share media via your wifi to your PS3.  Remember this is only a Beta, so everything may not be perfect. To Quote:

    Built from SVN r970.
Released as beta because some code changes haven’t been widely tested yet.
No new features have been added since 1.50.0 Beta 1 but many bugs have been fixed.

    and the Changelog:

PS3Hax member, Descrambler has released a fix for Singstar – Back to the 80′s (BCES01257), which has been confirmed working on CFW 3.41/3.55 (Singstar requires firmware 3.70).

So what exactly did he do to get this working?

    To quote:

When the system launches a disc, it gets the Title ID – in our case BCES01257 – from the PARAM.SFO of the disc. There are no checks if the eboot will fit for that PARAM.SFO – So it can mismatch without having any issues. But what the system checks is if there are updates installed for the Title ID : root/game/BCES01257/

So i patched the PARAM.SFO to Title ID BCES00494 – That’s Singstar Queen.

And the linked update BCES00494.pkg contains a 3.41 EBOOT.BIN that includes a full Singstar 5.10 player software for the new generation of Singstar discs (With PSMove support and Singstar Guitar).

So the 80′s disc launches and sees the updated player in root/game/BCES00494/ and lauches this instead of the 3.70′s EBOOT on the disc.

Theres also the possibility to depkg the queen update and change all BCES00494 Id’s to BCES01257 and create a fake 80′s update. I decided to patch as less as possible to keep the files original and used this nice trick ;-)

Grab the download and original post below!

It’s been confirmed that game sharing on PS3 is going to be scaled down this month. At the moment, you can purchase nearly any game on the Store, and up to four other people will be able to play it as long as your account is activated on their PS3. However, from November 18th, this will be scaled down to two. That’ll include the machine the content was originally downloaded on, and one other.

You’ll get four activations in all though, 2 on PS3 and 2 on PSP. If you’re picking up a Vita, you’ll hopefully get 2 more as well. The good news is that you’ll now be able to handle activations online, and select which consoles you want to remain active. It’ll save the headache of contacting Sony’s customer service, at least.

It’s clearly been put in place to protect the developers, who haven’t been too happy about the game sharing rules in the past. However, it’s worth noting that anything bought before the 18th doesn’t fall under the new rule, and you’ll be able to play as normal even if it wasn’t your account the content was purchased on.

Most PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable download titles can currently be activated and played on five systems. That’s about to change.

We’d like to inform you of some upcoming changes to the usage policies for PlayStation Network game content. As of November 18, 2011, the number of devices that can be activated on one PlayStation Network account for game content purchased from the PlayStation Store will be updated.
For game content purchased after November 18, 2011, a new policy will apply and the number of devices that can be activated will be as follows:

    • PS3: Users will be able to play the game on up to 2 activated PS3 systems.
    • PSP: Users will be able to play the game on up to 2 activated PSP systems.

Please note that this update will not affect game content purchased before November 18. The PSP rights include PSP-1000/2000/3000 series as well as the PSPgo system.
PlayStation Network users are able to change the activation setting through each device, and Sony Computer Entertainment plans to provide a new PlayStation Network account management website where users will be able to deactivate particular devices attached to their PlayStation Network account via their PC.

With the recent Unchrated 3 fix for CFW released a few days ago, PS3Hax member atmosfear has further improved the Uncharted 3 fix. This fix basically does not require the unpacking of PSARC files, including the journal fix and cutscene hanging issues.

    To quote:

I’ve created a new fix for Uncharted 3, which does not require unpacking your psarc files and fixes the journal and cutscene hang issues. This is based on the other full fix floating around, but only patches really required files. Also the fix will work on both windows and unix. I’ve done some testing on Windows 7 x64 and Mac OS X Lion.

This is a proper fix to allow playing of Uncharted 3 [BCES01175]
    on CFW 3.55 (3.41 untested).
This fixed the crash when entering the journal and hangups in
    level 9 and 11.
To apply the fix, simply drop your BCES01175 folder (or whatever
your Uncharted 3 folder is named) onto the uc3_fix_windows.bat
script, which should open a console window to show progress.
Linux/Mac OS X/other unix users, please use uc3_fix_unix.command
script instead and give the path to BCES01175 folder as the first
argument. Also be sure to have xdelta3 installed first.
If you like the game, please support the developers and buy it!

You don’t need to rejoin your pak23.psarc, if it is split, ’cause the patch doesn’t touch it.

Please provide some feedback, if the patch works for you.

NOTE: The windows fix has problems, if the game folder contains spaces or special characters, so if you folder is e.g. named “_BCES01175-[Uncharted 3 - Drake's Deception]” rename it to “_BCES01175″ before running the script. Alternatively copy the fix into the game directory, open a command prompt, cd into the directory and run “uc3_fix_windows .” (without the quotes)

    Update at bottom

PS3HaX Homebrew Developer lachrymose has ported the popular Homebrew game Super Mario War to the PS3, here is a small quote from his thread:

    Greetings,

I’ve ported the classic homebrew game, “Super Mario War” to the Playstation 3. It is created with SDL by these awesome fellows. For those not familiar, it’s a 2D action vs game with up to 4 players. You can even have bots with quite good AI! It’s a really great game to be honest. I wouldn’t have ported it if it wasn’t in my interest.

Everything is working from what I can tell. I only have one controller so I can’t test multi-player (can someone test this for me, please?) I believe it should work. Keyboards are also supported. :D

    UPDATE

lachrymose has released an update to Super Mario War, here is a quote from his original post:

    FIXED:

Bugs should be fixed for everyone, please delete the previous version. You can now install the smw to the root of a usb stick and the program will find it. HDD is still supported and recommended if your usb is not usb2.0. I tried a usb 1.1 stick and it lagged a little. People who upgrade need to re-install the smw folder, please. Sorry, but now it should work for everyone.
