PS3Hax member aldostools has released a nice homebrew tool he is calling: CreatePS3EXTRA

What does it do? To quote:

It scans for the PKG, MP4 and P3T files copied to each game folder or its PS3_UPDATE folder, and store them under a PS3_EXTRA structure. When a game is mounted with multiMAN, there will be 2 BD icons on the XMB: one disc for the game itself and another with PKGs, MP4 and P3T. It should make it easier to install the game patches, DLC, fixes, and related videos.

I was waiting for somebody to make a joke about this.

Also, this tool sounds extremely useful. PS3RIP thingy could be handy for a lot of people since we all know there's never enough free HDD space. I'm very happy somebody came up with this, thanks a lot!

I cant get the PS3 Extra tool to work.. I pick the game and when i click start it says 0 files done then closes I tryed it with a few different games. I also thought because i erase all the update files to save space it may not work, but tried it with 1 i hadnt deleted and still the same outcome

Sorry misunderstood what it did. I thought it found and opened the dlc content and made it useable not you had to have it already.. My bad

      hey aldo, everything ok?
There is any way to add an option to remove the extra content. to cut out fat from certain games?
games like little big planet 2 and god of war collection 1 has videos unnecessary. I would like to remove it, but the extra content still there even after i deleting files
      thx!!

Is a good idea to automatize the process of moving all "disc additionall content" to PS3_EXTRA, is the most easy structure and the better way to add content to a disc (the only problem is the size/name of the new icons)

In the wiki i listed other "blu-ray structures", i will upload a pack with all the "fake blu-ray structures" used in the wiki later, all are exactly the same values/flags/names as listed in the wiki included icons and SFO & SFX reduced to a minimall, i had the idea to upload them lot of time ago for people to play with them (and experimenting to find hidden features), but i see people likes to play with this more than i thought, i will hurry

I think you program can benefit from this when i release the pack, you can just "inject" my structure in a game and fill the folders with stuff found in the game (or externall folders)

Btw... you dont need to look inside PS3_UPDATE... in fact, the best thing you can do with this folder is erase it (and erase the flag "u" accordingly inside http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/PS3_DISC.SFB)

I tryed your app, and it was unable to find stuff inside PS3_CONTENT (in one of my fake discs that uses not-standard SFO's & SFX's reduced to a minimall) im not sure if this happens in a normal game or this can be considered a bug
The other folder where you need to look for stuff is PKGDIR

So in resume my suggestion for the app...
Look inside PS3_CONTENT & PKGDIR and move all to ---> PS3_EXTRA
Or... look for file extensions in all folders (.MP4 .PT3 .PKG) and move all to ---> PS3_EXTRA

The best approach is the second option, because there are games with stuff placed in non-standard folders (e.g. Heavy Rain contains a theme in a subfolder that cant be installed from the game... it can be said this is a "hidden" theme)

With PS3_EXTRA is very easy.... just remove the folder
With PKGDIR you need to remove the folder, and a flag inside ATTRIBUTE (inside the main PARAM.SFO)
With PS3_CONTENT you need to remove the folder, and flags from PS3_DISC.SFB

*Look at the wiki the explain of the PS3_DISC.SFB flags

      Great stuff, thanks aldostools!
I'm having a bit of an issue with PS3 NET Server GUI 1.0.
I'm using mmCM 4.01.01 and it seems like it's able to connect but doesn't find any folders/files.
I tried the ps3serv_GUI that came with mmCM ver 04.01.00 BASE (20120204) and it seems to see them though.

Ok, so is the ps3netsrv for streaming media? I have it set up but I am unable to stream any movies. It won't find filles under the XMMB but it will scan them under the File Manager. Please forgive me for being ignorant but I have no idea how to use this program. I have managed to get my ps3 recognized but where do I go from there. Is the only option to copy files over to PS3 Internal HD? Please assist me.

Thank you for the response Aldostools. You did manage to answer my questions indirectly ^^. So ps3netsrv is incapable of actual streaming, if I'm correct, right? It's more so for actual browsing of shared files and to copy/delete through file manager than to actual stream, like a media server.

I was just confused I thought this was an alternative media server. Thanks again Aldos!

Hi I just downloaded your latest ps3tools.zip from the first page.

I am trying to work with PS3RIP.

I then open patterns by pressing the button. I want to keep Spanish Language so I select that and press the Allow button.

I then browse the game folder I want to rip.

I then press the RIP button, and it reports it did not rip anything. I know this game has other languages, and looking closely to the patterns, it should fetch them.

Here is the log below. Hopefully you can help me.

I really liked the trueicecold's PS3 Game Updater 1.41, but I wanted a couple of new features... so I made my own "PS3 Game Updates 1.0"...

      Download: here (699KB)

Require: MSVBVM50.DLL (not needed if you already use my other tools)

      Features:
-The title id field accepts many formats of title id (eg: title id with/without dash, content id, URL of pkgs, etc). Also supports search game by name.
-The title id field also accepts the path of GAMES or the IP of the PS3 (to scan multiple games).
-Show game patches 3.56+ in a different color (pink).
-Auto-detects game patches already downloaded (search in PS3_UPDATE, PS3_EXTRAS, and in the default download path) and show them in gray.
-Asks for confirmation to download patches 3.56 or higher. Required firmware version is appended to the name of the file.
-Show game cover and game description even if the game does not have updates.
I tried to run it on my Windows 7 machine (no problems running your other tools), and it gives me an error.

      Run-Time Error: '70'
      Permission Denied

      Any suggestions?

      New feature:
      * Update the APP_VER in PARAM.SFO of the selected games to the specified version. This option helps to avoid the update screen when the game starts (for users with PS3 connected to the Internet), preventing accidental installation of patches that require FW 3.56 or higher. A backup of the original PARAM.SFO is stored as PARAM.SFO.bak. The new option works with local files and remote files via FTP.

How to use the new feature:
      - To update a single game, select the PARAM.SFO, right click and select "Update APP_VER in PARAM.SFO...".

      - To update multiple games, go to /GAMES folder, select the games that you want to update, right click and select "Update APP_VER in PARAM.SFO...".

      - Enter the new version (99.99 by default) and press OK.

I do all mine manually & package everything manual v9.99. This is a time saver By the way i am amazed by the awesome goodz you make & i just though you were a normal guy on here about 1 year ago or so .Then boom , got all kinds of goodies coming from you i had no idea I have made SFX , archives for your tools that simply extract to program files folder & all file extensions automatically associate themselves with your tools /pkgs /hash/etc, being they are in the proper place => Program Files , i did not even need a installer .That is what make these tools even better =>No running processes all the time & no wasted memory = FTW !

Great job , I had a little issue with rip app . I also noticed on mine it had took a important file my EBOOT.SP.BIN for one of my games .I don't remember if that is exact name, but could been my fault. I do know it was not language .It has to be a single player EBOOT.BIN = not good to remove MW2 i believe ? Unless part of a language folder ?

Are you supposed to set the ripping languages DIR path to the game "USRDIR" correct ? I got the problems & less rips when i chose BLUSXXXX instead of BLUS30591\"USRDIR" = Black ops saved me almost 5GB which was 18+GB =Now 13GB. being i have 8 Backups ,saved me serious space 40GB.

I decided to delete the french folder manual for my other backups but excellent tools "aldostools" If aldostools.org is your site you amazed me big time. Impressive goods if yours ?

Here is a picture of what I am seeing. After I start the app (already installed), the first box pops up (the top one in the pic), and then after I close that one the second one pops up (the bottom one in the pic).

What is weird is I tried the no installer version (exe only), and it worked for a second, before my stupid antivirus killed it. But then I tried to run it again, and got the same error. I could always send you a screen shot of the certificate too, and the other tabs.

Aldo, if you have the ambition, perhaps you could create an updater which does the following:

      1) Downloads all game updates for a given title, excluding updates requiring a higher firmware than 3.55. Multi-threaded downloads is a must, as Sony's servers delivers files slowly. Have each update downloaded sequentially with multi-threading, rather than downloading all the updates simultaneously.

      2) Generate properly formatted PDB files for each update PKG with game title and update revision number labelled.

      3) Optional ability to transfer completed updates with matching PDB's to /hdd0/vsh/task folder for easy XMB installation.

http://ps3.brewology.com/psn/updater.php <= Does the FTP and PDB part, but without any detailed labeling.

I'm glad to see you haven't gotten bored with making PS3 related apps yet. Your work is always much appreciated. =)

      great news, Thanks.

      what do you mean-
"Right click on a PKG and select Make PKG to create a PKG."

we can make packages now with it? I am not sure I understand the directions for that one.

Just tested PARAM.SFO editor 2.6.0.2, it does not load the original values from SFO, tested with BLUS30978!
