Some developers have released a RSOD fix via GAMEOS. Now keep in mind if you truly have a hardware problem then this will most likely not help you. also there was a RSOD fix via debain installer. so for those of you that have linux on your ps3 and wish to fix like that can use the linux pup.
[Download GAMEOS RSOD FIX]
[Download 355-NOTHEROS-RSOD.PUP]
There is a pup in the works for non linux users at the moment, will update this post when it is available.

Maybe I'm missing something here but how do you go about using this if you've got the RSOD? Once you get the RSOD I don't understand how are you going to use the rsodfix.gnpdrm.pkg? Do you have to go into the recovery menu and install the special PUP? The instructions to me don't seem to clear. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

It works!!! woohoo!!!! after over a year with a black brick, its alive again :D so glad I horde everything now ;p just one question - having installed Kmeaw it seems to get to 43% (As it used to with the rsod) and then reboots into xmb. How can I tell kmeaw installed successfully and its not just failing and rebooting to thenotheros version of 3.55? thanks

Thanks for the reply. The OTHEROS version of 3.55 has that package installer as its used to install the pkg fix. I have another ps3 with kmeaw 3.55 and the otheros xmb has all the same categories and options
Update: Downgraded to 3.41 cfw again and its all working fine at the moment :D currently updating to 3.55 kmeaw

im on 3.56 RSOD for like 3 years now, is there any way of downgrading through recovery back to 3.55 (while being on RSOD) so i can try this fix out ? cuz im assuming that this Fix is only for 3.55 users under the RSOD...
much appreciated to those who can help...

Hi,

First of all, thanks to all the dev. that made this PUP and PKG.
Tutorial:
1º - Enter in recovery mode and put the pup file in a FAT32 USB in the directory x:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP
2º - Make the update.
3º - Put in a usb stick the pkg file.
4º - In the XMB install the PKG.
5º - Run the PKG ( the ps3 will make a beep and returns to the XMB.)
5º - Thats it. All ok.
After you can install CFW or OFW, if you get another RSOD make the process again.
Tip. Only works with 3.55

Thanks for the rep "jhax78" ...so that sucks for me then, well so far there are positive feed backs from some victims of the RSOD...
i just hope a new release comes out for firmwares above 3.55 (SOON) waited for a long ass time but at least progress can be seen, at any rate congrats to the PS3 owners who revived their units! ! ! great job to the devs! keep on keepin on!!!!

This is amazing, after 1 year of seeing this red screen and keeping my fat ps3 on the closet, im following this tutorial and for the first time, and in a very emotional moment, i did not see the red screen of death after installing the NORSOD patched PUP.
edit: after installing rsodfix.gnpdrm.pkg and running the rsodfix in XMB, did another recovery mode and installed Kmeaw.
I want to thank all the devs and Ps3 community and the people in the Wiki for actually fixing something that sony should have done in the first place, and not making the customer ship and pay for a tech support like sony did. This is a truly amazing day for many people around the world that bought a sony product, a CHECHL PS3 console and had this nasty RSOD problem, making many customers upset all around the world left with a brick in the closet, just like me.
thanks 1 trillion times

WOW, I am amazed. Wait a minute, I have to wipe a tear from my eye. :-) I do have a question. My PS3 was on 355 OFW not kmeaw or CFW. I ran the PUP and it worked perfectly fine. It rebooted. I then checked the firmware version and it seem to still be 355 OFW except now I have the install pkg option on my dash. My question is, my RSOD is gone now, so do I still have to use the pkg file and if so why what does it do? AGAIN TY TY TY :-)
01-31-2012
02:47 AM
it from xmb
because if you only use the pup it's not fixed just bypassed
then install any cfw 3.55 you want and enjoy the ps3 once more
still have to say if it's hardware related the RSOD will be back

Oh yeah forgot to ask regarding my situation earlier on posts 23 and 25 , i was just wondering if i have another alternative to fixing the rsod , i dont mind any firware version, cuz i already have another slim already jailbroken, its just i want my spare to start running even if its ofw. If theres a softmod method that would be great.

I have a question

i did this:
install pup
install pkg
run pkg
install your cfw (kmean)
enjoy
Now what happens if i want to change from Kmean to Rebug???
with the ps3 now fixed, should i install OFW first, then the patched PUP, then install pk, then run pkg, and then install rebug??

dev_flash is different then this fix
this fix is for the corrupted vtrm and can't be solved by just installing new fw
where dev_flash gets overwritten with new data and thus gets fixed
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
if ppl just used ps3mfw or some newer releases it would be much better

..sorry for asking that stupid; but I've gotten a PS3 Slim with that error. Re-installing official firmware didn' solve anything; after 'bout 50% installation process it jumped to 100%, restarted and the RSOD's back.
So; do I have currently any chance to get this repaired? Would I be able to install that package? I need a custom firmware for that, don't I?
I'll be glad if you could point me to a link or solution or something.
Thanks!

Managed to RSOD myself earlier, can't really remember how. Thank god for this thread though!

The only problem I had - and this is down to my own stupidity - was that I was getting confused between Recovery Mode and Factory Service Mode! I'm putting it down to tiredness

Well, I finally got around to trying to use another CFW in my RSOD "fixed" PS3... no go.
Tried several CFWs, Rebug, KMEAW, and one built with PS3MFW. Shame there is no config for PS3MFW to patch for RSOD.
At any rate, attempting to run the pkg-installed RSOD fix results in the whole system hanging. The FSM lv2diag seems to work, based on the resulting text file, and it reboots out of FSM to RSOD.
In short, there seems to be a larger issue with this console, though the RSOD-patched PUP does at least boot. I have not tried installing anything other than an ancient Lv2 patcher I had laying around (trying to find files is next to impossible now, after the megaupload bust). Anybody know what patches the NOTHEROS RSOD-patched CFW has? IF I can get something to run in that, I would probably just stick with that.... or maybe I'll try and downgrade to 3.41 and use a jailbreak dongle I have laying around here.

hi,
I similar problem same as BenJeremy
1 - RSOD with slim console on FW 4.00
2 - Downgrade to 3.55 with PROGSKEET > ok
3 - Use FactoryServiceMode_Lv2diag_RSOD in FSM > result in log.txt ok
4 - Start normaly the console > get XMB > upgrade to 3.55 OFW
5 - Put original game GOW III > start and black screen > need to restart console
6 - RSOD Again (F**k) > Reapply FactoryServiceMode_Lv2diag_RSOD in FSM > result in log ok but always RSOD.
7 - Use RSODfix > Get XMB > Apply a file .pkg
8 - UPgrade to OFW 3.55 > XMB ok
9 - Play CD / DVD > ok
10 - Play a homebrew directly without BD > OK
11 - Play BDMV > start and after write "playback of BDS is prohibited on this system" > when i return to xmb > RSOD
12 - Play a GAME > start and write "imposible to finish save informations of trophe" > quit game > when i return to xmb > RSOD
13 - I tried bluray on another console with remarrying > ok
14 - HDD change > same
15 - Reflow on NOR "NAND" > same
16 - Delete DEV_FLASH /1 /2 replace by another working fine > same
Anyone have a idea ?
thx

Hi, thanks for all the information.
I have a weird problem that I'd like to discuss, may be there is someone who can help me hopefully.
I have PHAT 80GB PS3 which started to act weird some days ago. I couldn't save anything on HDD, no game save, no nothing. When I tried to save a game data on HDD, I got an Error message (which I don't remember because I didn't write it down.)
I thought maybe I could install 3.55 CFW again and it would solve the problem, so I hooked up my USB flash with 3.55 CFW inside. I started the update process like I did many times before, but this time at the end when the system restarted, I got RSOD !
I tried everything you can imagine, Recovery mode, Factory Service mode but with no success. After every try and installing 3.41 modified firmware (which shows 3.56) when the system restarts it goes straight to RSOD.
Then I found this page with the instructions to install 355-NOTHEROS-RSOD.PUP but the problem is because I've used that modified 3.41 before PS3 won't let me install 355-NOTHEROS-RSOD.PUP though Recovery and asks me to put 3.56 FW in USB Flash!
Now what should I do to be able to install 355-NOTHEROS-RSOD.PUP on my PS3?
I tried using Factory service mode and put 355-NOTHEROS-RSOD.PUP instead of the modified 3.41 but it doesn't work.
If someone could help me it would be very appreciated.
Thanks
