Still playing around with the good ole’ PS2? A modder known as “reprep” has managed to unlock games at 4:3 ratio to 16:9 via Codebreaker cheat system.

    To quote:

Lately on PCSX2 forums widescreen hacks for playstation 2 games started to emerge.

They are done by built-in game cheat option of pcsx2.

you can easily go to the thread by googling “pcsx2 widescreen game patches”

A user on that thread implied it can be done on real ps2 too.

I tried codes for final fantasy x and after a long struggle i finally managed to enable this widescreen hack on a real console.

the PNACH files of pcsx2 contain RAW codes. Codebreaker 9.3 accepts raw codes as long as the master code is raw (not CB encrypted) too.

You can google the game id to find the master code and get the widescreen raw code from the pcsx2 thread i mentioned above. There are ways to manually find these widescreen codes but i don’t have enough info on the subject.

The aim of this thread is to find out how many of these codes can be used on a real PS2, as they are discovered on pcsx2 and meant to be used on an emulator.

I have confirmed FF X NTSC-J International to be one of them.

A working game report should be like

    A) Name and id of the game

    B) What program used (For example Codebreaker 9.3 (HDL patched) etc)

    C) The launching method of the game (Original disc, backup with help of modchip, ESR backup, OPL, HDL)

    D) The code layout

I will find the working codes and add them to the first post.

EDIT: I noticed i didn’t explain this hack properly. It makes originally 4:3 games, 16:9. But it is real 16:9 not just stretching 4:3 to 16:9 like TVs do. There might be some glitches or some static backgrounds might stay in 4:3, but so far FFX looks good and the screenshots for other games i saw were great.

sorry i dont mean any harm with this, its just i never thought i would hear Ps2 and jailbreak in the same sentence.

I actually have a fully moddes dms3 Ps2, with Codebreaker and all my fav rpg's and fighting games backup on it....

With this i might dry the dust off it, and finish Rogue Galaxy ,Fatal Frame or Suikoden 5....
      this is quite a joy.

How come ps2 games seem to have a longer life span than ps3 games, what i mean is not that ps2 games are longer, because a ps3 game can do alot more hours, but in loving memory i will always go back to my ps2 games, but dont have that much love for my ps3 games, but this is for a completely different thread.

lol same here. Football games for example I can't stand today...the gameplay is so boring but PES6 on PS2? I could play that game all day...

Back on topic, wow this is awesome and it'll be great once a fully compiled list has been made so we can see some games looking even better than were originally thought although I expect quite a few to have weird graphical gliches but I hope I'm wrong.

As I posted on PCSX2 forum these are normal patches for games, and results may vary:
      http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-PCSX2...atches?page=24

Note that you can use them on whatever cheat engine you want, Action Replay Max too.

      For Example,

For Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix+ (The game is not 16:9 native game/There's no option in menu to change aspect ratio)

      In Raw it's:
      203A7BBC 3F19999A
      203487EC 3FE51EB8

So in Action Replay Max is:
      099J-BW5U-BFFNN
      GYN9-00E7-92THH
      VKX9-01FK-RPDR2

Here's the actual phylosophy behind the hacks:

And yes this is native 16:9, there's no visual trick, don't try to debate it... XD

PS: Sorry for the bug umages but obviously they were important.

Nice, are you able to make one for KH1 and KH2 (non-finalmix)?

KH1 is weird, it uses somekind of error handling or dynamic memory allocation (it's one of them, not sure which though) for Emotion Engine-related routines so everytime I try to modify a value there is something that kicks that value to an other (random) address. I guess you can deal with that but that's super hard for someone like me.

So far you can do it on PAL/NTSC-U/NTSC-J versions of KHRCOM, KH2 and KH2FM+. Also I can do the values for different aspect ratios like 16:10 if your screen is 16:10 like mine... Tell me what you need and for which specific cheat engine.

Also I have alot of WIP projects for other games, I'd be greatful if someone could help me.

I see. Well I just need the normal KH2 in 16:9, cheat engine either AR or Codebreaker. Also, would this stuff work on PS1 games that are played on PS2?

That's for the NTSC-U version using Action Replay Max:

      636G-JR7P-UPVKM
      Z2VJ-DW0X-WFUQX
      A5UV-55DC-MPHWY

Yes, you can do that on pretty like all consoles with 3D games, PS1 included, it's just that you need to have a cheat engine that edits values from the RAM (like Gameshark for PS1).

One of the reasons I was shouting for a realtime RAM editor on PS3, it just gives endless possibilities, from cheating to experimenting stuff with the game that were never intended to happen.

This is funny. I never knew this existed. I happen to be playing Rogue Galaxy recently and was thinking....what the heck...it looks good but the darn screen s TOO SMALL!! is there a code/hack for Rogue Galaxy yet?

People, if you want to make widescreen patches visit: http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-PCSX2...n-Game-Patches and follow all the info/tools given by contributors. If I can make patches for games, then you can aswell, trust me. Currently I'm investigating some intresting values that force games to render in progressive scan, some of them work some of them have weird results like 2x speed and choped/streched screens, but most of them work with a workaround.

This is only possible because of PCSX2 and GSdX plus their robust error handling measures, so give them props for that. Since PS2 has no realtime memory editing program (such as CWCheat on PSP) such thing with Codebreaker or Action Replay would be virtualy impossible to do especially counting the fact that those cheat devices are also having the malicious idea of encrypting their stuff/cheats (a'la TB) it would have been impossible atleast 'till 2009-ish that the cheat encryptions got reverse engineered. The thing now is that with such cheats it opens new horizons for even more stuff than just 16:9 hacks...

Nah, I meant that it's just the timming that was correct to happen. Now Sony looks very stupid with their (almost)HD remakes. There is no reason to get HD remakes on PS3 anymore when PCSX2 offers better results with the current game you have. One thing that was bothering us was the aspect ratio issue that, in contrast with the rest consoles, it's not universal to every game so all games were stuck to 4:3 that didn't support 16:9. I bet that FFX remaster on PS3 will look inferior to FFX on PCSX2. Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill series(es) remakes already look inferior on PS3 with the new 16:9 hacks. It's funny how an emulator pushes the envelope on a such boredom-riden company as Sony.

I've been going through that thread you linked, but I'm still kind of lost.. I don't know where to start. For example, I want to test Winning Eleven 9. What exactly should I do next? Where do I go looking?
